Short stories that take you back to your school days!

Dev Ayan’s ‘’chalk & duster” takes you back to your childhood if you are a grown up and if you are still a kid, you will relate to all of its stories. A compilation of various short stories, the book is a bag of mixed emotions where you keep wondering what will happen next till the end of every story.
Kids have their own little world and hence, every story is weaved beautifully to capture it and present it before the readers.
‘Cent Percent’ the first story in the book is a quest of hard work and success. The other stories impart same virtue, with an added element of love, friendship, respect, wrongdoings, punishments and new experiences. The book makes you appreciate your life and the people in it, especially your parents, friends and teachers.

To read or not to read!
Chalk & Duster, is a compilation of short stories and hence if you are someone who is not into long reads, this may become your next book. The book has a few of instances where some stories are deliberately made longer but apart from that the book is a must read. At least to relive the school days because, the flashback of the memories continuously runs at the back of your mind. This makes you enjoy your memories even more.

Favourite lines:
Much like the first rain of the season, their friendship left a petrichor and both of them, though miles apart from each other, wanted this to sustain forever.

Dev Ayan’s Chalk and Duster is a collection of 14 short stories woven around experience of kids. This book equally appeals to both an adult and a child. You’ll laugh, cry, be in awe and yet have a sweet reminiscence at the back of your mind. You’ll be transported back to your childhood and be reminded of the greater joys of a sublime mind.

Not every child is privileged and not every privileged child has everything perfect. Not every beautiful picture has no crumple. Read Dev Ayan’s version of all things beautiful and have a calm 2 hours of this. Every book has lacunae and so does this one but don’t let the errors from my point of view mar your reading of a good book. He has a done a great job considering that this is his first book.

WHAT I LOVED: the book is short! Its only 118 pages meaning people with inhuman 30 hour shifts can read and enjoy it without having to compromise a lot on their sleep

WHAT I DISLIKED: This book has a low key language setting and hence is perfect for the average reader. I would have enjoyed a little more of linguistics though. No I don’t mean a Sashi Tharoor but a little bit more.

I loved this book from start to finish. Rooting for our main couple is easy because the way they're written is just so likeable!

The storyline works really well and has a way of easing the reader into what could be considered "unusual" situations and as we walk through the book with Sophie we really get a feel for her personality, feelings and responses to everything around her.

The writing itself flows really smoothly and is nice and easy to read. I'll definitely be reading more from this author as soon as I can!

Great story!

Debut story by AJ Atkinson was full of steamy scenes and suspense. Sophie and Jack are very likeable and believable characters and the author does a great job portraying them. Although set around the BDSM lifestyle, it's on the lighter side, so this is a pleasurable way to dip your toes into the genre.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well written with a mixture of mystery, suspense, sensuality and playfulness. I found the characters Sophie and Jack likeable and especially liked Sophie's dry sense of humour! Ideal escape into a world of glamour and excitement.

an enjoyable read for what is a debut novel from the author. A good amount of spice with a good plot.
