Changing Tides

Rate this book
Twenty six years.

Nine thousand, four hundred and ninety days.

Every hour, a relief.

I’m a thug. A pusher. A low life. Governed by the hand that feeds me and holds my sister against me. I am named ‘Gripp’ for good reason. Every breath I take is one I hold dear, for my life dictates a short span.

I hit on women to save face, while I screw men in back alleyways to hide. My brazen attempt to seduce my sister’s best friend fell short, leaving me spiralling out of control. I’m not good enough for Ayden Rinaldi, but it doesn’t mean I’m not going to try.

I want him with a passion I have never felt before.

The chips are stacked against me, against us. The muddy waters I tread, taint all who come near. On bended knees, my world finally rips itself apart, leaving me sinking to the bottom of my black existence. In death’s darkest hour, I am lost, Ayden a shadow of the man he once was.

But he is my anchor.
I am his.

And we must swim these choppy waters before they drown us.

Twists and turns abound in K A Sands first M/M novel. An interconnected standalone full of action, suspense and toe-curling heat. You’d be a fool not to read! Please be aware, this book contains distressing and mature themes and you must be 18+ to read.

Klaire is a multi genre author who has a passion for reading and more often than not, can be found with her nose stuck in a book. She loves angsty, dark reads but is not averse to the fun, light hearted side either. Typically, a romance reader, of most genres/sub genres, her passion for literature and written words goes back to her childhood when she always dreamed of writing and telling the world her stories.

Not quite a stay at home mum, Klaire has a busy life which she shares with her husband of twenty-five years and her little monkey boy. Her adult children have flown the coop already, but still manage to come home for ‘mama’s lasagne.’ EOL Nurse and business owner are her daytime realities.

Avid eater of mayonnaise and chips, anti-get fitter, lover of cheesy music and a fierce advocate of things close to her heart. She has a bucket list as long as her arm, which includes sky diving and visiting Cambodia. And wants to travel the world.

Great believer in second chances, insta-love (because her love is a product of that), fairy tales and monsters… Klaire just wants to write all the words for you.

"I can't lose you, Ayden. I wouldn't survive."

Why didn't Shaun think about that when he cheated on Ayden the first time? Or the second time?

He'll do it a third. And a fourth.

"I wasn't a cheater and it wasn't something I would have ever thought I'd do to Ayden."

But you did. Multiple times. And you'll do it again.

I tend to avoid books containing particular triggers so that I'm not tempted to Hulk out and harm my beautiful cinnamon roll Kindle (yes, it may be an inanimate object but it is nevertheless too good for this world, too pure). Cheating is one of my triggers. As are toxic (with a capital "T") relationships. If you are similarly inclined, I wouldn't recommend this book.

**Not an ARC review**
This is the kind of book that I was set to love but it didn't work out that way. It has the properties to be a good book. Strong characters, good writing and editing, hot sex and an interesting potential plot. It also has an unbelievable amount of coincidences that would actually be more believable in real life than in this work of fiction. The climactic ending was the final straw though. It made no sense and without any follow up regarding the fall out it in the epilogue, etc, I just can't believe that was the ending.

There are m/f books before this one that would probably help make sense of how some of the coincidences are set up but it wouldn't change anything about how the connections happened so I'm not sure it's necessary to read them. I didn't feel like I couldn't keep up or figure out what was going on. The author notes the m/f sex in this book is necessary and yeah, I guess so, but since that's a big part of the closed circle of hell Shaun creates, it seems like it's all gratuitous. I know Ayden seems to get past the issues but nothing about the relationship between Shaun and Ayden is healthy - obsessive?, yes. Healthy? Not even a little bit.

It looks like there are more books coming but they aren't m/m and don't interest me because the characters as I've been introduced to them aren't compelling me to come back to this story.

Oh wow! This is the first MM book I have reviewed and definitely one of my top reads this year. Although the characters in this book are interconnected to the Razer series this book can be read as a standalone. I would suggest; however, that you read the other books too so you will be more clued in on the other characters.

Ayden is the son of Lucca Rinaldi from the previous Razer books and this is his story. A confident young man who owns his sexuality, he has the support of his family and best friends Jake and Sophie. His world turns upside down when he meets Shaun and although he is drawn to Shaun’s darkness, is he willing to take that next step?

Shaun aka Gripp is a man in his mid-twenties, heavily involved in the unsavoury world of drugs. When his and Ayden’s world collide, they felt that instant attraction. But Shaun is good at faking everything especially his true self; he can’t give away his secrets as it might cost him his life and new found love.

This author’s fourth book totally blew my mind. This is a contemporary MM romance about two individuals who are from different backgrounds: one grew up privileged and the other comes from a world of violence and dubious connections. Their tale is a rollercoaster of emotions: betrayal, redemption, and love; a white knuckle ride and hanging at the edge of your seat type of book. I wish I could spill out more juicy details of their story but I don’t want to give away any spoilers. You need to find out for yourself why Ayden and Shaun are my new favourite heroes. Honestly, Shaun and Ayden’s relationship tied me up in knots it gave my heart a wedgie. And yes, that ending, I was totally gobsmacked! I highly recommended this book.

This is a hard review to write because I want to talk about all the things I loved about this story but by doing so would reveal spoilers and I'm not a reviewer who does that. What I will say is that I loved this book! I have read and loved the other books in The Razor Series (so would totally recommend those to you too) however this story focuses on Gripp and Ayden. The blurb tells you that Gripp is a thug and someone who runs in the wrong circles and what I love is how his character developed plus I found him intriguing and I have a lot of empathy for him. The blurb also tells us that Gripp has his sights set on Ayden after seducing and then falling for him. Ayden is also a fabulous character that I really enjoyed getting to know and like Gripp, I enjoyed seeing him mature and deal with the unexpected situations in his life.
This book is a real page turner and one that I would totally recommend. It is full of drama which will have you feeling lots of different emotions along the way and the story is not predictable at all... I do love that in a book!

WOW, if you are looking for a hard-hitting, actioned packed story then this is the one you want! K.A. Sands has written a gripping story, which will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

This is Ayden Rinaldi’s story, Ayden is Lucca’s son and he has had a lot to deal with in his life. Stella is his worthless, evil mother but luckily he has an amazing father in Lucca and a supportive Uncle who have looked out for him. Ayden is in love, with Gripp, a thug, a pusher and a low life, but he really loves Ayden and wants to change to be the man Ayden knows he can be.

Changing Tides is a gripping drama, of love, passion and hope…there is always hope. Hope for a real relationship, hope for love and hope for a settled future. This M/M story will have you reeling with anticipation, it’s a brilliantly written story that will suck you in and leave you breathless. A must read.

Changing Tides is one of those rare books that comes along and grips you down to your soul. KC Sands manages to create an action packed tale where two different worlds collide and will never be the same again. This book will grab your attention and never let go.

Gripp, aka Shaun, is a thug. He's a drug dealer who is watching his world collapse around him. But meeting Ayden makes him reassess his life. He falls in love with Ayden and wants to be better for him.

As much as their two lives are so vastly different, their worlds are strangely intertwined.

It is a powerful story of love and what one will do for those they love. It can assume you that it is not a light-hearted read. The content is heavy and difficult to read at times.

Even is you find someone you love, someone for who you want to be a better person, someone for who you find yourself needing to be a better person, changing your life isn't always going to be easy.

When you work for a drug dealer, all stops will be pulled out trying to keep you on your current path. There will be consequences. And how do you move on? How do you help the others in your life to move on? If they can all survive, it won't be easy. But if you have enough desire, you will keep fighting.

Changing Tides leaves me absolutely gutted. It takes one on a complete and utter emotional journey. One that I cannot recommend highly enough. KA Sand's first M/M novel is pure brilliance.

Holy Moly!
This author knows how to wreck me in all the right ways.

Changing Tides was Book 2 of The Razer series and having been with this series since the beginning of Taylor. This author doesn't play safe and doesn't use the regularly accepted tropes of todays comtemporary romance.

Changing Tides is about Shaun 'Gripp' and Ayden Rinaldi, yup this is the book for Lucca's son.
Knowing this author's work, I went into this book knowing that it wouldn't be for the faint of heart, and boy was I not wrong.

Shaun reminded me of a swan, calm and mellow above the surface of the water, and paddling like a mad man underneath.
Ayden couldn't be any more different to Shaun if he tried. One is a street thug and drug pusher, and the other is an educated man with money and good parental role models. Well other than his darlin' mum Stella, but if you've read this series you know what she's all about. I've never been quiet with my desires to wanna throttle that woman.

Few authors out there today have penned a book which has effected me as much as this one has. I finished reading Changing Tides several weeks ago and still I can't get this one out of my head. Darkness and desolation. Fear and finality. Actions and repercussions. These are all things that occur in this read.

Bring the kleenex and a good bottle of wine when reading this beautifully composed book about fractured souls just trying to keep their heads above water.

Bravo Ms. Sands, and thank you so very much for creating one of my most favoured series of all time.

I hadn't read any books by this author before, but after Changing Tides, I definitely want to! Shaun (Gripp) and Ayden were two very well developed characters with an amazing attraction to each other. Opposites for sure, one deep into the mafia, drawn in from happenstance and poverty to care for his sister. One wealthy and protected by a close family. There are many action sequences, some very violent, some not. But it always comes back to the relationship between these two men. That relationship even though tumultuous is all-encompassing. A good M/M read, but somewhat dark and violent that certain readers might be a little cautious of. K.A. has a writing style that makes you want to turn page after page, that's for sure :)

Gripp, (aka Shaun) the tattooed typical bad boy, looking to escape and get not only himself, but those around him, on the straight and narrow, it’s hard to hate him. I definitely saw a side to him, that he kept close to his chest, but mainly because he had to for so long.

As Ayden enters, cue another reason (one of many), for this man to change his ways, preare for their journey, which is more like a ring of fire rollercoaster!

Excerpt:
Playing with fire....worth every blister.

Pant melting right alongside the extreme despairing lows and manic highs, all rolled into one. One of my few M/M reads, but it never failed to amaze me how hot the sex scenes were!

Loving this series so much, and so excited to get the next instalment later this year. But Changing Tides was a true credit to this author. I simply loved it.

Talk about drama and a whole lot of emotions while reading Changing Tides. First off we meet Shaun aka Gripp not someone who you would enjoy reading about with him being Thug, Pusher and A Low life but then as i was reading i realised you shouldn't judge someone by the ink they wear because Shaun has a lot to give throughout his story which all starts by meeting Ayden.
I tried reading slowly so each word would sink in but every page was gripping as the next and just kept on reading.
If you have read the first three books in the Razor Series you are most likely to enjoy and love Changing Tides.
I'll be sure to look out for Stella's story.

shaun and ayden do not have an easy go of it. shaun fucks up a lot imo, but i really think its because he doesn't really feel worthy of ayden, but CAN'T live with out him. angsty and emotional, but really well written. either you love it or you don't, i really loved it.
