Vespers Chronicles #3

The Black Knights

Rate this book
Since Jasper Andrews took up her mantle as an assassin of the Order of Vespers, she’s seen just about everything. She came into supernatural abilities that belonged to her deceased siblings, chatted with deities, and trained with an immortal mentor.

As if life wasn’t mind-boggling enough, she’s been put in charge of ending a cult hell-bent on unleashing chaos on humanity. Jasper finds herself relying on the one person who has the power to hurt her but can’t seem to fight the magnetic pull between them. Now, they must stage a rescue mission and defeat their greatest mortal enemy while avoiding heartbreak.

No big deal, she’s saved the world before…sort of.

This should be a piece of cake.

The Black Knights by Elyse Reyes a four-star read that won’t leave you blue. This is the third book in the Vespers Chronicles and I would recommend reading the first two books as they do all form the story and you would miss important information not reading the first two. Jasper is someone as a character will captivate and astound you, she overcomes adversity and still is someone you like. Often when a character goes through so much you start to feel like they are dragging, but the author has managed to still keep it fresh and keep you hooked. This third book just goes from strength to strength.

This was my first read by Elyse Reyes, and hopefully will not be my last. I am often not found of the dystopian or supernatural fantasy world type books, but this one gripped me from the synopsis and the cover. I would say that this is book three in the Vespers Chronicles series and has been said to be able to be read as a stand alone novel. I would not recommend it though. I felt as if I would have enjoyed the story that much more had I read the other books and read them in order. I don’t think I would have felt quite as lost as I did in certain areas of this book, and it would have made it just that much better.
That said, this is a good book. There was a lot of adventure and action that kept me on the edge of my seat reading to find out what would happen next for the characters, and to see where the story would go next. It touched on a lot of things that I found interesting, such as cults and social behavior. Both of these gripped me more than the genera that this book is labeled as more.
Jasper is one strong woman, who is very relatable as a character. She is doubtful of herself like most women in her situation would or should be, yet she pushes forward and hopes for the best, often coming out more on top than she anticipates. She is thrust into this cult world and set on destroying it before it gets anymore out of hand than it already had. With her newly acquired skills and the help from someone who also holds the power to destroy her as much as the power to help her, she fights for what she believes is right and the people she cares about. She has saved the world before so this time around should be possible, right? Well she sure hopes so, and it makes for a fun read to see if she will be successful in doing so.
I will give the other books a read in this series before continuing with the next one in the Vesper Chronicles. Overall, a four-star read that I enjoyed has be wanting to come back for more!

The Black Nights (Vespers Chronicles Book 3) by Elyse Reyes is the third book in her Vespers Chronicles series. I highly recommend that you read the previous books in this series before this one to help enrich your enjoyment of this series. It will give you the background on characters and also some situations that they make reference too. I enjoyed this book as much as the previous ones. This author's writing skills are such that they are creative and the story is easy flowing. She pulled me in right from the beginning and made me feel as if I was right there with the characters. Her characters are connectable and true to life. They will take you on a journey of some twists and turns that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. They will also take you on an emotional roller coaster ride that will leave you feeling compassion for some of the characters. In this installment of this series Jasper is put in charge of ending a cult that is determined to destroy humanity. She must now put together a rescue mission with the one person that she can feel herself being drawn too. The problem is that this person has the power to hurt her too. Will she be able to complete the mission and not leave herself open to heartbreak? She has saved the world before, some what so this should be no problem for her right? My favorite character in this series is Jasper. She is so head strong and fiesty that no one should want to mess with her. Her crew puts her to the test a lot to prove herself. She is a really strong character in this series. I enjoy how this story leaves her with a romance problem as well as the action situations. In my opinion she makes the story engaging and kept me reading until the end. I highly suggest this book. Find out what happens to Jasper in this installment of her series.

The Black Knights by Elyse Reyes was en epic rollercoaster of a ride the had me engrossed right until the last page.

Another book to add to my favourites list, an another book where I have to go back and read the other books. It's been my bad habit this year. Reading books in the middle of their series. But, I will say that from the way this book was written, the detail, structor and implementing background from those others books, I caught on pretty fast.

Our MC was more then the star of this book. She proved to be more then a well rounded character, she is complex, smart, and even though this was the third book in the series, our MC still grew and mature. There are no other words I can say, other then she was a pure badass. The side characters only added to her character, and the well choreographed interactions made it all the more special and extra.

There are so many good things in this book, so much so that I need to go back and read the other two books. If this book is a testament to the authors ability to created a multi diverse world, that is complex, engaging, and still managed to slip in snarky banter, then I need to see where it all started, to witness the development of this breath taking worlds creation.

I highly recommend you get your hands on this series, don't be like me and start at the end. Get your paws on the first two books, because I have a feeling that they are just as strong as this astonishing, heart gripping, feel stripping read.

Happy Reading

The Black Knights is the third book in the Order of Vespers Series by Elyse Reyes. It is a YA paranormal/urban fantasy full of action, adventure, some drama, supernatural, and suspense. As the third book in the series I really recommend that you read the other two books first before starting this one as there is a lot of foundation work, character information and pertinent details laid out in those first two books. Having that information will avoid any confusion in this book and will also improve your overall reading experience of this story. The book/series has an original and intriguing storyline that explores the world of good and evil, order and chaos; and the Order of people who possess special abilities, who are tasked with maintaining the universal balance. It is very complex story that has surprising developments, lots of suspense, with action paced scenes and some violence.
In this book we follow Jasper once more as she deals with and recovers from her ordeal, all whilst trying to save the world- AGAIN! She has a lot of responsibility riding on her shoulders, will she be able to save the day once more?
This story has a lot going on, but the author choreographs it beautifully, into a smooth, well-blended read. The story has a great pace, easily captures the readers attention and imagination, and takes them on a wonderful adventure. I love that even though this is the third book in the series, the characters still evolve, develop and grow over the course of the story.
Another great instalment in this action-packed series!

Thank you, Ms. Reyes!

a great read about trying to save the world. Jasper is a Black Knight of the ancient order of vespers, supernatural beings who save the world and protect it from dangers. when a seer in the circle has visions of death and danger and troubles, the order is concerned about the fate of the world. jasper and her friends unite to save the world and rescue a friend Jordan who is in danger. but when tensions increase between the friends, will their group divide or stick together to save the world?
a great read. well developed plots with twists and turns that I just couldn't put down. well developed characters like Jasper trying to lead the order and recover from recently returning from the dead or Voss as a good supporting friend to Jasper. I loved the community feel of the order with the table meetings and training rooms. the combination of characters being assassins cold hearted killers but also caring friends who have each others back was a great mixture, rounding out characters and also adding hilarity. the range of weapons and training rooms were well written
I also adored the range of supernatural abilities like the fire or visions and seers and magical garlic protections which were spellbindingly captivating. short sentences grab your attention with quick action and dramatic tension. engaging plot beautifully written. I also loved the vision of the storm being pathetic fallacy for times of troubles overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

The Black Knights ( Vespers Chronicles Book 3) by Elyse Reyes.

I'm going to start off by saying this is a very good read, full of adventure and emotion. I do really think that I should have read the first two books before delving into this, it wasn't like I was completely lost or anything its just i felt there were times when it would have been helpful to know the backstory on certain occasions where it pertained to the story line and the characters. It kind of felt like there were bits and pieces of the story that I wasn't quite up to speed on.

I did however really enjoy all the action and fantasy that went into this story. I loved Jasper's character, she is a very strong independent person with great powers, but she is also vulnerable in other ways, and that's what made her that much more relatable and likeable. I also will admit that I really enjoyed that she could kick but as well! There is definitely a lot going on throughout this entire story and I loved that, its suspenseful and there was never a dull moment. The author did an amazing job with the characters and the detail of the world she has created. Will Jasper be able to save humanity? What happens if she gives in to the only person that can hurt her? You can find out when you read this story. I highly recommend this series, but a piece of advice once again is to read the first two, but I have no doubt you will love this book either way.

The Black Knights by Elyse Reyes is the third book in her Vesper Chronicles series, and let me say that I should have read the other books in this series first. The books are very intertwined, so I felt more than once that I was missing out on something, pieces of the book that were woven in the previous books. Following the story of Jasper who is an assassin with the Order of the Vespers, we learn that she is coming into some supernatural abilities which only make her job harder. But when she is tasked with ending a cult, a cult which is determined to end the world as she knows it, she will have to lean on the one person who she never expected to need. This man has the power to end her where she stands but he is the only one who can save her as well. Taking this leap of faith is going to take everything she has, but the reward is also pretty sweet. Reyes is a new to me author, and while I liked to book I think that I would have liked it more having started the series from the beginning. Supernatural type books aren't my all-time favorite to read but Reyes made this an interesting read that kept me intrigued to read more and fall for her characters one paragraph at a time. If you are looking for a new series to read, or an author to try, this is one that you should take a leap of faith on!

The Black Knights- Elyse Reyes

5-star review

The Black Knights by Elyse Reyes is a truly unforgettable story! This is the third book in the Vespers Chronicles and it’s also the first book of this series that I have read. Even though I hadn’t read the first two books I still really enjoyed this one from start to finish. It has an incredibly original storyline, one that had me so hooked. It’s intense, surprising, dark, riveting and at times even emotional. There was plenty of background information and character detail that made it fairly easy to jump right into. I did have to piece some things together along the way, but it didn’t take away from this amazing story. I would however recommend reading the series in order to fully appreciate this book.

I found these characters, both main and supporting, so easy to connect with. I absolutely loved Jasper, she was powerful, honest, caring and at times confused. Her character felt so genuine and real as she managed to deal with all of the drama unfolding in her life. Plus, the supporting characters were all super intriguing and I can’t wait to read more about them. I would definitely recommend this action-packed story to others!

The Black Knights by Elyse Reyes is the third book in her Vespers Chronicles series. This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it immensely.

As if being an assassin for the Order of Vespers wasn’t enough Jasper has seen so much more - not least the discovery of her supernatural abilities. Throw in a psychotic cult who are determined to bring the world down around everyone and the one person who has the power to break her and everything is set up to make like as challenging as possible for Jasper.
Having saved the world before however she is adamant that she can handle all of this that is being thrown at her. Hopefully with her heart, and sanity, in tact.

This was a brilliant introduction to an new author. I loved her writing style and how it completely gripped me: even the blurb had me interested enough to want to dive right in. I absolutely loved the character of Jasper - her strong will and fight. She worked well with the story that the author was trying to tell. The first thing I will be doing is going back to the start of this series and reading the whole job lot.

Black Knights is the third volume in the Vespers Chronicles series by Elyse Reyes. It is another action-packed thriller taking us deeper into the Vespers’ world. We follow Jasper as she is now leader of the Order and faced with a new cult which seems hell bent on destruction. She has all the trials and tribulations of a normal teenager: love splits, friendship fall-outs and work stress but she also has her superpowers to deal with. She tackles each challenge with dignity and often with stoicism. She knows what she has to do and even if she doesn’t want to do it, she knows it is her duty.
I really enjoy the way this writer creates and then illustrates her characters to give us a chance to get to know them. As it is the third novel, we know the main characters quite well by now but there are always new surprises along the way which keeps the reader hooked. An excellent addition to the series and a satisfying read. Not sure it could be read as a standalone as we do need a bit of previous knowledge but I’d recommend it for fans of fantasy young adult series who want to follow a group of characters through different adventures to their conclusion.

The Black Knights (Vespers Chronicles Book 3) by Elsye Reyes is book three in her Vespers Chronicles Series. This is my first time reading something written by this author. I would advise you to go back and read the first two books in this series. There are references made that only reading the two first books will help you understand. Plus, you will get to know the characters better.
I really enjoyed that you are instantly brought into the story and that you can relate to the characters. If you want a rollercoaster of a ride, then this is the book for you. I was on the edge of my chair waiting to see what was going to happen next.
I instantly liked Jasper and that she is a strong female character. This time she is set out to save humanity from a cult. She is tasked with a rescue mission with someone she has feelings for but can ultimately destroy her. Can she save humanity and her heart? I love how even heroines of the story have romantic problems. This is a must-read book. I will definitely go back and read the first two books in the series.

The Black Knights by Elyse Reyes is an awesome 5-star read. This author never has any trouble pulling me right into the story and getting me imbedded in these characters lives.

Jasper is the assassin of the Order of Vespers and is tasked to stop a cult that is intent on destroying all of humanity. She is such a great character, she is sassy, strong and passionate. I love the roll she plays, most of the time I read or think of assassins as men but in this case a strong female takes on that roll. She has to partner up with the one person who could ruin her but throughout everything she faces, she does come through stronger. I love the way she faces all of life’s issues and deals with them and at times I am so distraught that she has to go through so much.

Overall a great third book to this series. There were nice amounts of drama, suspense, romance, action and twists and turns throughout the book that kept me on the edge of my seat. Reading the other two books is not necessary but highly recommended to understand fully what is happening and would help you enjoy the book more.

The Black Knights
By Elyse Reyes
4 stars

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I have to say I really enjoyed her writing. The characters were well developed and thought out. The storyline was exciting and it didn’t take me long at all to be completely hooked. I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series and as this is book 3 I would definitely like to go back and read the first 2.
I really liked Jasper; she was a really good character. The author clearly thought about her and made her likeable. I thought that she was really strong with a great feisty side! I felt for Jasper too, she faced a struggle but her headstrong attitude helped her through.
The author had a really great writing style which I found very engaging. Her writing flowed well, the story had a great pace and I loved all (well almost all) of the characters! A really good read that I definitely recommend.

The Black Knights by Elyse Reyes
Four Stars

The Black Black Knights is the third book in the Vespers Chronicles Series by Elyse Reyes. This is such a great series, but I recommend you read the books in order because you will miss out on the background information that runs throughout. This book like the first two pulled me in and left me reading way too long into the night. It held me enthralled from beginning to end. The twists and turns will leave you wondering what is yet to come. Jasper is back with a new mission and she is as feisty as ever. The emotions in this book vary from happy to sad, but it is full of drama, action and adventure with a little mystery added in. Jasper is such a strong character with tough decisions to make that could break her heart or lead her to great love. The secondary characters really make this book pop. I highly recommend this book, series and author.

The Black Knights is the third book in the Vespers Chronicles by Elyse Reyes and is a great continuation of the story. This journey with the Vespers is fast paced and action packed and the story is well written and flows nicely. As usual the story is engaging from the very start. I have loved this series from the beginning and love catching up with these characters like they are old friends. Watching Jasper grow and become the woman she is, faults and all, has been amazing. She is strong and powerful whilst at the same time vulnerable. Leading the Vespers is hard enough but when you have someone trying to undermine you from the inside, evil trying to destroy the order itself and people you love there is only so much you can take before you let loose.

Can’t wait to see what’s next.

The Black Nights by Elyse Reyes

The Black Nights is Book #3 in Elyse Reyes’ Vespers series that tells more of Jasper Andrews’ story. I really enjoy stories with strong female characters like Jasper and her position in The Order of Vespers. I read the first book of this series but somehow started this one without initially realizing it wasn’t the second book. I decided to read this anyway and while I believe having read book 2 would’ve made this one even better, I still thoroughly enjoyed this story. This story kept me interested from start to finish. The author does a wonderful job describing this fantasy world, the characters, and the characters powers. I think lovers of fantasy, supernatural, and bad ass female heroins will really enjoy this series. This is another fun 4 Star book by Elyse Reyes.

I give The Black Knights (Vespers Chronicles Book 3) by Elyse Reyes, 5 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were written so well. You can really feel for Jasper and understand the struggle she is going through. There are so many people you will love in this book -- and a few you may want to punch upside the head. Or at least Jasper does.

The story is excellent too. Not only does she have to deal with the turmoil inside the team, there is someone planning something so much worse. I literally could not put this book down. I was furious with my tablet for running out of power in the middle of reading this!

I just loved this book and highly recommend it.

The Black Knights (Vesper Chronicles book 3) written by Elyse Reyes. This story should be read in order starting with the first two books. It makes everything more understandable. I did not read the first two books and while I was able to piece together stuff you don’t really know everything that Jasper, Jordan, Nicholas and everyone else have gone through up until that point.
The characters grew throughout the story, especially Jasper. She has had it rough and it keep getting tougher for her, but can she endure it is the question. Even when her boyfriend, mentor, friends and everyone else are questioning her abilities…

This is my first story by Elyse Reyes. Her writing style is fresh and easy reading. She has created a wonderful world and characters for you to love/hate. I did not read her other books in this series, but I intend to now. There are a lot of references pointed out in this story that would have helped but it is not necessary. Jasper Andrews is a kick butt character. She is coming into some powers that belonged to deceases members of her family. She is trying to keep her hatred for the Order of Vespers in check. I love the way Elyse Reyes built Jasper into a strong female character. It is refreshing that readers can see that a female is just as good as a male for the strong characters.

The Black Knights, Vespers Chronicles Book 3 by Elyse Reyes
4 out of 5 stars
I love a good book about assassins and this book is just amazing. First, before you read this book, read the first two as it will explain much of the back ground, history and fill in many details for this book and will only make you enjoy it more. Jasper Andrews is one spit fire of a character. Being an assassin for the Order of the Vespers, you would think that she has the whole, saving the world thing down pat, right? This story is intense, at times very dark, and very suspenseful. I enjoyed the deep turns in this book and the unique twist this author gave to these characters, both main and supporting.

The Black Knights by Elyse Reyes is the third book in the Vespers Chronicles. This is the continuation of the story of Jasper and the Order of the Vespers. There is a cult that they are battling and Jasper is in charge of operations. I read the first in the series and somehow missed the second, but this story is still fun to follow. I know I was missing some but could still enjoy the novel. Now I will be going to go back and read the second novel.
The characters are great and they differ from one another and are not cookie cutters. The challenges are crazy. I enjoyed the action and everything in the book. I recommend this book for a fun action packed novel.

Very Suspensful Sci-Fi/Dystopian read! A read I truly enjoyed from the moment I read the synopsis, literally was hooked before page one.

Although some may say this can be read as a stand alone, I personally benefited from reading the two previous books first. I think it adds to the reading experience.

This was jam packed with suspense right from the start. I would warn there is a bit of violence in the story.

I give Elyse Reyes' The Black Knights 5 out of 5 stars! Reyes' doesnt dissapoint and you won't be dissapointed if you one click now!

Engrossing

Jasper misses Jordan after his sudden disappearance. She turns to Nicholas for love and support. Then, Jordan returns and nothing is the same. There is a cult lead by former members of The Vespers who are kidnapping those with abilities so they can sacrifice them to steal their power. All of her assassins agree this needs to be stopped at once and they decide to let Nicholas infiltrate the cult so they will know when the next sacrifice will be.
This is a story about love, truth, betrayal, and brokenness. It is well written and engrossing. I can't wait for #4.

This was my first book to read from this series and I enjoyed it. I believe I would have connected more quickly with the characters had I read the other books first. However that didn’t stop me from becoming thoroughly engrossed in the plot and characters. Reyes weaves a spellbinding tale and takes the reader on an incredible journey. Really liked this book. Look forward to reading more from her and from this series.

Jasper and her assassins face their final showdown as the sinister cult opposing them and a spiritual force of chaos arise.

I admit to struggling with the theme of assassins as a force of balance, in the vein of Scythe. Here, at least, Reyes addresses the morally questionable situation of her protagonist as the world changing events erupt. The ending also surprised this reader.

All in all, a compelling trilogy with memorable characters.
