*This book was REPUBLISHED on 2/1/19 to fix the flow and grammatical issues that were pointed out in earlier reviews.*
Millie Castilda is your average mixed-breed shifter trying to live a normal life. When three young supernatural males, Jax, Julian, and Mason, are thrown into her life, being normal becomes an afterthought. The four navigate through their newly found abilities with only each other but there are other changes in the air as well. Sparks fly between the three young men, and Millie may be forced to make a decision. It doesn’t help that the humans are now trying to get involved, and a detective starts sniffing around the boys. She doesn’t understand the supernatural world, but she’s willing to dive in deep and provide another disruption in their lives. However, there’s something bigger happening right under their noses, something far more important than the exploration of their magic and emotions, and even more important than the determined police officer; A shift of power within the city that will challenge the clan in charge and test everything they thought they knew.
WARNING - This book is written in multiple POV's. Please keep this in mind, because the POV switches, this book is not for everyone.
This is my first book I have read from this duo and it definitely did not disappoint. I found the storyline to be complex but not in a bad way that was difficult to understand or follow. I loved reading about all the different characters and how they interact with the other main characters while adding their own storyline. It will be interesting to see how all these different lives cross paths throughout the rest of the series.
I didn’t read much about the change or shift in power within the city in this book, but I am sure that will be addressed as the series continues. This book seemed like it was trying to set up all the different characters, their individual plots, their combined storylines, and romantic/friendly relationships. That being said, it took me a couple chapters to get into it, but once I was, I couldn’t stop. The way the authors wrote this book allowed the reader to really get to know all the characters. I found myself going through a range of emotions with just about every character that was introduced and in the end I like just about everyone except for Bennet. I went from anger, to annoyed, to understanding with just about every character.
I read a few reviews that were complaining about the constant change in POV but I actually enjoyed it. I was able to read about all the characters’s feelings, inner thoughts, and actions without reading it from someone else’s POV. The story wasn’t flipping back and forth from chapter to chapter going from one character’s POV to another. All I needed to know about scenario or situation was all in one chapter. I did not find it to be confusing at all.
I also read another review that said this was young adult...ummm did they read that detailed foursome scene? That was NOT young adult but I am not complaining at all!! This is not a young adult book, this is a RH. So expect some steamy sex scenes with multiple partners.
I am interested in finding out what happens next in the series! Great job to the authors!
Incredible world building with a full cast of characters
I read the newest version after the rewrite. I found this to be a complex, unique world with intertwined storylines that is reminiscent of the black dagger series. It has an omniscient type of POV that can be jarring if you’re not use to reading it in fiction. That does smooth out as the narrator gets more into her character interactions. The heat in this book is hot and all of the intimate scenes are well written. There is a lot going on in this first book in terms of plot and it is action driven in the first half. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I loved the way there are so many different parts to this book. You get the back story and information on so many of the characters that the whole world feels really fleshed out. I feel connected to all of them and can't wait to find out what will happen next. I love the way the FMC is a mix of the supernatural meaning her power is drawn to different mates in different ways. The steamy scenes are hot! Looking forward to finding out where their adventures take them next.
Within these pages lies a world of danger, love, lust, sex, primal instincts, and human emotions. Turning the final page will only leave you wanting more.
Set in a supernatural world hidden in plain sight, you will find complex and relatable characters sure to keep you hooked long past the final chapter.
I highly recommended this novel and I cannot wait to read the next installment.
The story was ok, but if I am half way into the book and I am struggling to stay focused then unfortunately, I usually give up on books like that. I also had a hard time with the way the book is written. The boys all sound the same and I was always confused not knowing which character was talking at times. I had to read the same sentence multiple times to figure out. Got to a point that it was too much for me.
This is the first time I’ve read an RH for the younger audience. It’s a slow moving and steady pace story. Also, if I am to go by the description, is this really an RH or just multiple prospects? If it were RH, why does she have to choose? It has a great prospect and good idea to the story, I just wish it was structured and organized a little better so readers can focus more on the story itself than trying to keep up with the constant changing point of views.
I downloaded Soul Fire as a free ebook from Amazon. I think what I liked best about this book was how the author built up the backstories on these characters so the reader was fully invested in what happened to these teens. I enjoyed the complexity of each protagonist's circumstances and their coping mechanisms. I'm definitely going to pick up the next book, and hope the author can continue with the complexity and great plotting.
**Read with Kindle Unlimited** This is the first book that I have read by this author and it did not disappoint. The characters and world building meld perfectly together and allow the reader to feel as if they are included as a bystander. I can not wait to see what is in store with the next book in this series
This book is in desperate need of an editor. The characters are interesting, but there are so many typos, misused words, and run-on sentences (semicolons are your friend!) that it is almost unreadable. The story is not enough to outweigh those flaws; I will not be reading the rest of the series.
This book was well written complexed an imaginative. It had steam an love an lies and a group of characters easy to appreciate. I loved Millie!! With a fast paced plot it wasnt a hardship to read at all!! I will be looking into the next in the series for sure!! Great job Jodie & Rose!!
I don't know if it's just the edition I read but the writing threw me off, conversations in particular were really weird: Answers to previous questions would happen at wrong parts of the conversation, descriptions would contradict themselves.
It felt like weird editing and I couldn't get into it.
This book is just ......wow. there's drama, excitement, and some romance and let's not forget the shifters. It has great detail and flows awesomely. It sucks you in and keeps you on your toes throughout the book. I love this book and couldn't stop reading it.
A coming of age story for four shifters and the start of a new life for another main character. All blended together in a familiar location with paranormal overtones. It’s beautifully written.
Brilliant first book of the series. I cant wait to get stuck into the next books to find out what happens with millie and her men. The book has been through some edits to improve. Characters are well rounded and well introduced. I cannot wait to get stuck into the next book
The story seemed interesting but it was so busy everyone's point of view. Conversation that we didn't need as they were repetitive and not needed for the story
I loved how the book was written. It has a starting and ending, but I love how it goes back and forth between the past/ future. Even with that being said, it’s simple to keep up with, you don’t feel as though you’ve got to reread several chapters. The story was amazing as well, and the characters pulled at my heart.
