আমার মতো সাধারণ পাঠকের জন্য বইয়ের চাইতে বড় reality check আর দুটো নেই।
সব শূন্যতার বিপ্রতীপে , চোখ ঝলসানো রঙিন তাৎক্ষণিকতার বিরুদ্ধে একমাত্র হাতিয়ার বই। এবারে পড়তে গিয়ে ও পঠিত তত্বের নির্যাস আত্মস্থ করতে গিয়ে সবচেয়ে বড় অন্তরায় হয় নিজের অহং।
আসলে চারদিকে অসম্ভব প্রতিযোগিতা, জানেন তো পাঠক? সেখানে দাঁড়িয়ে ‘ইগো’ বা ‘অহং’ শব্দটাকে আমরা আজকাল আর নেতিবাচক ভাবে দেখে উঠি না। অন্তত আমি, ব্যক্তিগতভাবে সব সময় নিজের ‘আমি’টুকুকে নিয়ে বিভোর। আমি সাধারণত একটু বেশিই আত্মসচেতন। নিজের অস্তিত্ব সম্পর্কে আমার মতো মানুষের একটা অতিরিক্ত গুরুত্ববোধ থাকে। ‘আমি’কে ভালবাসার মাধ্যমে নিজের ব্যক্তিত্বই এক ধরনের উচ্চতা পায়। আমরা মনে করি যে 'আত্মবোধ' থাকলেই নিজেরই উত্তরণ ঘটে।
আমরা ইন্টেলেক্ট।
যেভাবে কালিদাসের অভিজ্ঞানশকুন্তলম বর্ণনা করি বা মুরাসাকি শিকিবুর The Tale of Genji বলে লোককে চমৎকৃত করি, অথবা ইসাইয়াহ বার্লিনের মার্ক্সবাদ কিংবা লুই দুপ্রের The Philosophical Foundations of Marxism বলি বা মলিয়ে-মিলটনকে ডিকোড করে আনন্দিত হই , গ্যেথে-ঘালিব-প্রুস্ত এক নিঃশ্বাসে উচ্চারিত করি -- সেই আবেশে মাটির গন্ধ, সমুদ্রের নোনা হাওয়ার গন্ধ, অন্ত্যজের মুক্তির অভিযাত্রা উচ্চারণ করতে পারি কি ?
উচ্চমার্গের সাহিত্য ক্র্যাক-অ্যাডিক্টের নেশার মতো।
অনেক অনেক দূরে চলে যাই আমি। আবার মাটিতে ফিরে আসি , জমিতে নেমে আসি আমার বুড়োবাবার হার ধরে।
নিখিলানন্দ, ম ও মেহরোত্রার বই তিনটির পর গত পাঁচ বছরে বুড়োবাবাকে নিয়ে এই বইটির চাইতে ভালো বই পড়ার সুযোগ হয়নি।
লেখক এক জায়গায় বলছেন : When one attempts to trace the reason for India’s acquisition of such intense passion for transcendental realities, one finds that the only cause is the repeated appearance of illumined souls in India. Through observing and studying those mystics’ visions and supernatural powers, the Indian people have developed a firm faith and deep interest in spiritual matters. Thus, from ancient times India’s national life has been firmly based on spirituality, and this has created a unique society with social customs aimed at the direct realization of Truth. India’s social rules and customs were formulated so that the nation and its inhabitants could gradually make progress by performing their daily duties in accordance with their temperaments, and finally attain spirituality or God-realization. Because the Indian people have followed these social rules from one generation to the next, the spiritual values of India have remained alive. Even today the Indian people strongly believe that each individual can experience God and attain union with Him by practising austerities, self-control, and intense spiritual longing.
উপনিষদে বলা হয়েছে, ‘সত্যেন পন্থা বিততো দেবযানঃ’ অর্থাৎ, সত্য দিয়ে আলোর যে-পথ, সে তো ধ্রুবপথ। সেই পথ আস্তীর্ণ হয়ে আছে। আর সত্য হল সেই ভূমি, যার ওপর তৈরি হয়েছে ভারতবর্ষের সুপ্রাচীন অধ্যাত্মসাধনার বিচিত্রগামী ইতিহাস। সে ইতিহাস আবহমানকালের, স্মরণাতীত সময়ের। তাই তো সে ইতিহাস বলে ‘ন হি সত্যাৎ পরো ধর্মঃ’— অর্থ একটাই, সত্যের চেয়ে বড় ধর্ম, বড় সাধনা আর কিছু হতে পারে না।
লেখক বলছেন - All through the ages divine visions and experiences have led to spiritual realization. But one cannot attain eternal peace until one reaches the nirvikalpa state by controlling all thought waves and becoming established in nonduality. As Sri Ramakrishna used to say, “If a thorn is stuck in your foot, get another thorn and take out the first with its help; then throw away the second thorn also.” Because we have forgotten God, this world appears to us in a perverse form. Visions and experiences of the spiritual world counteract these corrupted experiences of sight, taste, and so on, ultimately leading a person to attain nondual knowledge.
Then that aspirant becomes blessed, realizing the dictum of the sage, “Brahman is truly the source of bliss” (Taittiriya Upanishad 2:7). This is the process; all doctrines, visions, and experiences of the spiritual world lead human beings to that goal [Brahman].
শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ তাঁর জীবনে, তাঁর সাধনায় এ কথাই প্রমাণ করে দিয়ে গিয়েছেন। তিনি কোনও নতুন ধর্মমতের প্রচার করেননি।
চিরন্তন ভারতবর্ষের কথাই তিনি বলেছেন। কিন্তু বলেছেন, তা তদানীন্তন সময়ের উপযোগী করে বা বলা ভাল আরও আগামীর পথরেখা তৈরির মধ্য দিয়ে। কারণ, তিনি তাঁর সমসময়ের চেয়েও অনেকটা এগিয়ে ছিলেন।
তিনি যে-সময়ে দাঁড়িয়ে যে-কথা বলেছেন, তখন সে কথা আর-পাঁচজন ভাবতেও পারতেন না। তাঁর মুক্তমনা চিন্তার প্রতিফলন ঘটেছে, সর্বত্র— তাঁর বাণীতে, উপদেশে। তিনি সমন্বয়ের কথা শুধু বলেননি, ধর্ম সমন্বয়ের সাধনাকে নিজের জীবনে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছিলেন।
উপনিষদে আছে, ‘যমেবৈষ বৃণুতে তেন লভ্যঃ’ প্রত্যেকে তার নিজের পথ নিজে আবিষ্কার করে নিক, তারপর সে পথে যাত্রা শুরু করুক। এ পথে বাধা আসবে পদে পদে, কিন্তু চলা তাতে থামবে না। তার পথ তাকেই তো পেরোতে হবে।
আমার বুড়োবাবার কাছে কাছে ধর্ম কখনওই আচারসর্বস্ব ছিল না। প্রচলিত গড়পড়তা ধর্মাচার্যদের সঙ্গে এখানেই তাঁর প্রভেদ।
পরম ঔদার্যে তিনি ভেঙে দিয়েছিলেন ধর্মে ধর্মে বিভেদের খড়ির গণ্ডি। সকল সংকীর্ণতার ঊর্ধ্বে উঠে তাই তিনিই বলতে পেরেছিলেন ‘যত মত তত পথ’। এ জন্যই বর্তমানের অস্থির প্রহরে দাঁড়িয়েও শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণচর্চায় মেলে মুক্তিপথের সন্ধান।
এই কারণেই প্রতীচ্যের জ্ঞানীগুণীদের কাছে শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ প্রতিভাত হয়েছেন ‘ফেনোমেনন’ হিসাবে। অলডাস হাক্সলি, ক্রিস্টোফার ইশারউড, আঁদ্রে জিদ, রোম্যঁা রলাঁ, আর্নল্ড টয়েনবিসকলেই বিমুগ্ধ শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের ভাববিপ্লবে। এঁদের সকলের কাছেই রামকৃষ্ণদেব এক ‘অত্যাশ্চর্য আবির্ভাব’।
লেখক বলছেন: Sri Ramakrishna actually admitted his human imperfections, so we shall benefit greatly by discussing his human aspect. That is why we request the reader to study the Master’s divine aspect while always keeping in mind his human characteristics. If we do not think of him as one of us, we shall not be able to find meaning in the superhuman zeal he had and the effort he made at the time of his sadhana [spiritual disciplines]. We may think: Why would he, who is eternally perfect, need to try to attain the Truth? Again we may think: His lifelong effort was nothing but a matter of show. That is not all: His effort, steadfastness, and renunciation, which he applied in his life for God-realization, may cause terrible apathy in our hearts instead of encouraging us to emulate them, and in this life we will not then be able to overcome inertia.
রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেব সর্বস্তরের মানুষের কাছে সে দিন ধর্ম-ধর্মজীবন-ধর্মাচরণের নতুন বার্তা পৌঁছে দিয়েছিলেন। সুস্থিত জীবনের লক্ষ্যে যা হয়ে উঠেছিল উত্তরণের রাঙা পথ।
তা ছিল সমন্বয়ে, উদারতায়, মৈত্রী ও সৌভ্রাতৃত্বে সমুজ্জ্বল।
দক্ষিণেশ্বরের কালীমন্দিরের পূজারি ধর্ম সাধনায় নিমগ্ন হয়ে গভীর উপলব্ধি নিয়ে হিন্দুধর্মের বিভিন্ন ধারা-উপধারার ধর্মচর্চায় ডুব দিয়ে একাধারে সমন্বিত ভাবনা থেকেই উচ্চারণ করেছিলেন গড, আল্লাহ্, ভগবান একই সত্যের পারস্পরিক প্রকাশ।
শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ লোকধর্ম-লোকভাষা-লোকজীবনের উষ্ণতাকে যুক্ত করেছিলেন নাগরিক জীবনে শিক্ষিতজনের বেদান্ত-ধর্ম-দর্শনচর্চিত মনের সঙ্গে। সমন্বয়ের বাতাবরণেই তাঁর এই চরম উপলব্ধি।
বেদান্ত ধর্মে নিষ্ণাত শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ সর্বভূতে, সর্বজীবে, সর্বস্তরে ‘ভূমা’ অর্থাত্ বৃহত্ ‘ব্রহ্ম’র উপস্থিতি অনুভব করেছেন। তাই তাঁর কণ্ঠে বিশ্ব শুনেছে, জীবে দয়া নয়, জীবসেবার আহ্বান। ‘শিবজ্ঞানে জীবসেবা’ এবং সেই সঙ্গে ‘মাটির প্রতিমায় যদি পুজো হয়, তবে জীবন্ত মানুষে কেন হবে না?’

শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ মানুষের জন্য আবির্ভূত হয়েছেন। তাঁর বিশেষ আকাঙ্ক্ষা ‘প্রকৃত’ মানুষের জন্য। সেই মানুষ তাঁর আপন মহিমায় প্রতিষ্ঠিত হোক ‘মান’ আর ‘হুঁশ’ নিয়ে। মনুষ্যত্ব অর্জন করতে হয়, মানুষ হয়ে উঠতে হয়। জন্মালেই এটা সম্ভবপর নয়।
পাশব প্রবৃত্তির অপসারণে দেবত্বে উত্তীর্ণ হওয়াএ মানুষই পারে। তাই মানুষেই আস্থা শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের। আত্মচৈতন্যে ভর দিয়েই অমৃতত্বের সন্ধানে তার এগিয়ে যাওয়াঅতঃপর অমৃতস্বরূপ হয়ে ওঠা।
এই স্বরূপকে নিজের মধ্যে খুঁজতে হবে, বুঝতে হবে, প্রকাশ করতে হবে। আবার তেমনই, অন্য সকলের মধ্যেও সামাজিক অবস্থানে, সমদৃষ্টিতে অনড় থাকতে হবে। বেদান্ত দর্শনের মূল কথা এটাই।
শ্রীরামকৃ��্ণ কোনও বিশেষ সম্প্রদায়ের ধর্ম প্রচার করেননি, কোনও স্বতন্ত্র ধর্মগোষ্ঠী গড়েননি, বরং যা নিত্য, যা সত্যসর্বকালীন-সর্বজনীন একাধারে মনননিষ্ঠ এবং প্রাণে-প্রাণে অনুভবে সহজ-সরলসে দিকেই ছিল তাঁর অমেয় দৃষ্টিপাত। সকলকে এ সম্পর্কে সম্পূর্ণ সজাগ করা।
শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ জানতেন খালি পেটে ধর্ম হয় না। আবার, ভরা পেটেও আত্মসুখী-আত্মপর হয়ে ওঠে মানুষ। এই আত্মপরতন্ত্রতার ঘোর বিরোধিতা করেছেন তিনি।

১৮৯৪ খ্রিস্টাব্দে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ আমেরিকা থেকে সতীর্থ স্বামী শিবানন্দকে একটি চিঠিতে গুরু শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ সম্পর্কে লিখছেন, ‘আমি তাঁর জন্মজন্মান্তরের দাসএই আমার পরম ভাগ্য। তাঁর একটা কথা বেদ-বেদান্ত অপেক্ষা অনেক বড়।’
গুরুভাইদের স্বামীজি অকপটে জানান, ‘এ জন্ম এ শরীর সেই “মূর্খ” বামুন কিনে নিয়েছেন।...তিনি যে তাঁর কার্যভার আমার স্কন্ধে নিক্ষেপ করে গেছেন। তা যে পর্যন্ত না সমাপ্ত করতে পারি, সে পর্যন্ত তিনি তো বিশ্রাম করতে দেবেন না।’
নরেন্দ্রনাথকে দেখিয়ে শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ বলতেন: ‘তুই আমি কি আলাদা? এটাও আমি, ওটাও আমি।’

বিবেকানন্দের তীব্র-তীক্ষ্ন অনুভব‘আমি দেহহীন এক কণ্ঠস্বর’ (voice without a form)। এই কণ্ঠস্বরও শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণেরএকই সঙ্গে সেই কণ্ঠস্বর শাশ্বত ভারতবর্ষের। সে ভারত দরিদ্র, অজ্ঞতায় পূর্ণ, কাতর কিন্তু প্রজ্ঞাসম্পদে ধনী, ঐতিহ্যে প্রাচীন, বহমানতায় সজীব, নবীন। এখানেই ভারত সুমহান। কোটি কোটি ভারতবাসীর ঐতিহ্যমণ্ডিত ভারতবর্ষের দু’হাজার বছরের সাধনার ঘনীভূত রূপ তিনিই (শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ)রম্যাঁ রলা সমগ্র বিশ্বকে জানান সে কথা।
রবি বাবু সে অর্থে আমার বুড়োবাবার সংস্পর্শে আসেননি। কিন্তু তিনিও শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের এই ভাবের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাশীল ছিলেন। ১৯৩৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের জন্মশতবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে ‘প্রবুদ্ধ ভারত’ পত্রিকায় লিখেছিলেন ‘To The Paramhansa Ramkrishna Deva’ নামক একটি কবিতা। সেটিই ‘প্রবাসী’তে বাংলায় লেখেন—“বহু সাধকের বহু সাধনার ধারা/ ধেয়ানে তোমার মিলিত হয়েছে তারা।/ তোমার জীবনে অসীমের লীলাপথে/ নূতন তীর্থ রূপ নিল এ জগতে;/ দেশ বিদেশের প্রণাম আনিল টানি/ সেথায় আমার প্রণতি দিলাম আনি।” ছয় পঙ্ক্তির এই কবিতায় রবীন্দ্রনাথ শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের সমন্বয়ী আদর্শকেই চিত্রিত করেছেন।
রবি ঠাকুরের ‘বহু সাধকের বহু সাধনার ধারা’র মিলিত রূপের concept রল্যাঁর ভাবনা থেকেই সঞ্জাত। ম্যাক্সমুলারের ‘প্রকৃত মহাত্মা,’ অল্ডাস হাক্সলি বা ক্রিস্টোফার ইশারউডের ফিনোমেন্যান ‘তিনিই’রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংস।
অন্তত চল্লিশবার আমি পড়েছি বইয়ের এই অংশটি :
The Master explains the truth of this: “By pressing one grain of rice from the pot, one can verify whether all the grains are soft.”
After listening to the Master, we realized that we would fail if we tried to understand the scriptures in that manner. Yet that passage would surely appear to be true if studied according to its context. The Master explained it by using a couple of rural examples. He said: “When rice is boiling in a pot, if you take one grain and press it between your fingers, you instantly know whether all the grains in the pot are soft. Why is this? You haven’t pressed all the grains one by one. How then do you come to this conclusion? Similarly, by examining two or three things in the world, one can know whether the world is eternal or transient, real or unreal. A man is born, lives for some time, and then dies. The same is true of a cow and a tree. After thus observing one thing after another, you come to the conclusion that whatever has name and form follows the same law. The earth, the sun, the moon, and so on have names and forms: they are therefore subject to the same law. Thus, you become aware that everything in this universe is of a similar nature. Don’t you then know the nature of everything in this world? When you thus realize that this world is transient and unreal, you can’t love it anymore; you will remove it from your mind and will be without desire. As soon as you give up desire for the world, you will see God, the source of the world. So when a man has the vision of God, tell me: Is he omniscient or not?”
এই বইটিতে আদ্যোপান্ত সাবলীল গদ্যরীতি অনুসৃত হয়েছে। ফলত সামগ্রিক ভাবে রচনা একটা ধীরস্থির অথচ বিচক্ষণ গতি লাভ করেছে, অহেতুক আলঙ্কারিকতার প্রয়োগ নেই।
পড়তে পারেন ইচ্ছা হলে। মন তৈরি থাকলে ভালো লাগলেও লাগতে পারে।

লেখক এক জায়গায় বলছেন : When one attempts to trace the reason for India’s acquisition of such intense passion for transcendental realities, one finds that the only cause is the repeated appearance of illumined souls in India. Through observing and studying those mystics’ visions and supernatural powers, the Indian people have developed a firm faith and deep interest in spiritual matters. Thus, from ancient times India’s national life has been firmly based on spirituality, and this has created a unique society with social customs aimed at the direct realization of Truth. India’s social rules and customs were formulated so that the nation and its inhabitants could gradually make progress by performing their daily duties in accordance with their temperaments, and finally attain spirituality or God-realization. Because the Indian people have followed these social rules from one generation to the next, the spiritual values of India have remained alive. Even today the Indian people strongly believe that each individual can experience God and attain union with Him by practising austerities, self-control, and intense spiritual longing.
উপনিষদে বলা হয়েছে, ‘সত্যেন পন্থা বিততো দেবযানঃ’ অর্থাৎ, সত্য দিয়ে আলোর যে-পথ, সে তো ধ্রুবপথ। সেই পথ আস্তীর্ণ হয়ে আছে। আর সত্য হল সেই ভূমি, যার ওপর তৈরি হয়েছে ভারতবর্ষের সুপ্রাচীন অধ্যাত্মসাধনার বিচিত্রগামী ইতিহাস। সে ইতিহাস আবহমানকালের, স্মরণাতীত সময়ের। তাই তো সে ইতিহাস বলে ‘ন হি সত্যাৎ পরো ধর্মঃ’— অর্থ একটাই, সত্যের চেয়ে বড় ধর্ম, বড় সাধনা আর কিছু হতে পারে না।
লেখক বলছেন - All through the ages divine visions and experiences have led to spiritual realization. But one cannot attain eternal peace until one reaches the nirvikalpa state by controlling all thought waves and becoming established in nonduality. As Sri Ramakrishna used to say, “If a thorn is stuck in your foot, get another thorn and take out the first with its help; then throw away the second thorn also.” Because we have forgotten God, this world appears to us in a perverse form. Visions and experiences of the spiritual world counteract these corrupted experiences of sight, taste, and so on, ultimately leading a person to attain nondual knowledge.
Then that aspirant becomes blessed, realizing the dictum of the sage, “Brahman is truly the source of bliss” (Taittiriya Upanishad 2:7). This is the process; all doctrines, visions, and experiences of the spiritual world lead human beings to that goal [Brahman].
শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ তাঁর জীবনে, তাঁর সাধনায় এ কথাই প্রমাণ করে দিয়ে গিয়েছেন। তিনি কোনও নতুন ধর্মমতের প্রচার করেননি।
চিরন্তন ভারতবর্ষের কথাই তিনি বলেছেন। কিন্তু বলেছেন, তা তদানীন্তন সময়ের উপযোগী করে বা বলা ভাল আরও আগামীর পথরেখা তৈরির মধ্য দিয়ে। কারণ, তিনি তাঁর সমসময়ের চেয়েও অনেকটা এগিয়ে ছিলেন।
তিনি যে-সময়ে দাঁড়িয়ে যে-কথা বলেছেন, তখন সে কথা আর-পাঁচজন ভাবতেও পারতেন না। তাঁর মুক্তমনা চিন্তার প্রতিফলন ঘটেছে, সর্বত্র— তাঁর বাণীতে, উপদেশে। তিনি সমন্বয়ের কথা শুধু বলেননি, ধর্ম সমন্বয়ের সাধনাকে নিজের জীবনে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছিলেন।
উপনিষদে আছে, ‘যমেবৈষ বৃণুতে তেন লভ্যঃ’ প্রত্যেকে তার নিজের পথ নিজে আবিষ্কার করে নিক, তারপর সে পথে যাত্রা শুরু করুক। এ পথে বাধা আসবে পদে পদে, কিন্তু চলা তাতে থামবে না। তার পথ তাকেই তো পেরোতে হবে।
আমার বুড়োবাবার কাছে কাছে ধর্ম কখনওই আচারসর্বস্ব ছিল না। প্রচলিত গড়পড়তা ধর্মাচার্যদের সঙ্গে এখানেই তাঁর প্রভেদ।
পরম ঔদার্যে তিনি ভেঙে দিয়েছিলেন ধর্মে ধর্মে বিভেদের খড়ির গণ্ডি। সকল সংকীর্ণতার ঊর্ধ্বে উঠে তাই তিনিই বলতে পেরেছিলেন ‘যত মত তত পথ’। এ জন্যই বর্তমানের অস্থির প্রহরে দাঁড়িয়েও শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণচর্চায় মেলে মুক্তিপথের সন্ধান।
এই কারণেই প্রতীচ্যের জ্ঞানীগুণীদের কাছে শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ প্রতিভাত হয়েছেন ‘ফেনোমেনন’ হিসাবে। অলডাস হাক্সলি, ক্রিস্টোফার ইশারউড, আঁদ্রে জিদ, রোম্যঁা রলাঁ, আর্নল্ড টয়েনবিসকলেই বিমুগ্ধ শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের ভাববিপ্লবে। এঁদের সকলের কাছেই রামকৃষ্ণদেব এক ‘অত্যাশ্চর্য আবির্ভাব’।
লেখক বলছেন: Sri Ramakrishna actually admitted his human imperfections, so we shall benefit greatly by discussing his human aspect. That is why we request the reader to study the Master’s divine aspect while always keeping in mind his human characteristics. If we do not think of him as one of us, we shall not be able to find meaning in the superhuman zeal he had and the effort he made at the time of his sadhana [spiritual disciplines]. We may think: Why would he, who is eternally perfect, need to try to attain the Truth? Again we may think: His lifelong effort was nothing but a matter of show. That is not all: His effort, steadfastness, and renunciation, which he applied in his life for God-realization, may cause terrible apathy in our hearts instead of encouraging us to emulate them, and in this life we will not then be able to overcome inertia.
রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেব সর্বস্তরের মানুষের কাছে সে দিন ধর্ম-ধর্মজীবন-ধর্মাচরণের নতুন বার্তা পৌঁছে দিয়েছিলেন। সুস্থিত জীবনের লক্ষ্যে যা হয়ে উঠেছিল উত্তরণের রাঙা পথ।
তা ছিল সমন্বয়ে, উদারতায়, মৈত্রী ও সৌভ্রাতৃত্বে সমুজ্জ্বল।
দক্ষিণেশ্বরের কালীমন্দিরের পূজারি ধর্ম সাধনায় নিমগ্ন হয়ে গভীর উপলব্ধি নিয়ে হিন্দুধর্মের বিভিন্ন ধারা-উপধারার ধর্মচর্চায় ডুব দিয়ে একাধারে সমন্বিত ভাবনা থেকেই উচ্চারণ করেছিলেন গড, আল্লাহ্, ভগবান একই সত্যের পারস্পরিক প্রকাশ।
শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ লোকধর্ম-লোকভাষা-লোকজীবনের উষ্ণতাকে যুক্ত করেছিলেন নাগরিক জীবনে শিক্ষিতজনের বেদান্ত-ধর্ম-দর্শনচর্চিত মনের সঙ্গে। সমন্বয়ের বাতাবরণেই তাঁর এই চরম উপলব্ধি।
বেদান্ত ধর্মে নিষ্ণাত শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ সর্বভূতে, সর্বজীবে, সর্বস্তরে ‘ভূমা’ অর্থাত্ বৃহত্ ‘ব্রহ্ম’র উপস্থিতি অনুভব করেছেন। তাই তাঁর কণ্ঠে বিশ্ব শুনেছে, জীবে দয়া নয়, জীবসেবার আহ্বান। ‘শিবজ্ঞানে জীবসেবা’ এবং সেই সঙ্গে ‘মাটির প্রতিমায় যদি পুজো হয়, তবে জীবন্ত মানুষে কেন হবে না?’

শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ মানুষের জন্য আবির্ভূত হয়েছেন। তাঁর বিশেষ আকাঙ্ক্ষা ‘প্রকৃত’ মানুষের জন্য। সেই মানুষ তাঁর আপন মহিমায় প্রতিষ্ঠিত হোক ‘মান’ আর ‘হুঁশ’ নিয়ে। মনুষ্যত্ব অর্জন করতে হয়, মানুষ হয়ে উঠতে হয়। জন্মালেই এটা সম্ভবপর নয়।
পাশব প্রবৃত্তির অপসারণে দেবত্বে উত্তীর্ণ হওয়াএ মানুষই পারে। তাই মানুষেই আস্থা শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের। আত্মচৈতন্যে ভর দিয়েই অমৃতত্বের সন্ধানে তার এগিয়ে যাওয়াঅতঃপর অমৃতস্বরূপ হয়ে ওঠা।
এই স্বরূপকে নিজের মধ্যে খুঁজতে হবে, বুঝতে হবে, প্রকাশ করতে হবে। আবার তেমনই, অন্য সকলের মধ্যেও সামাজিক অবস্থানে, সমদৃষ্টিতে অনড় থাকতে হবে। বেদান্ত দর্শনের মূল কথা এটাই।
শ্রীরামকৃ��্ণ কোনও বিশেষ সম্প্রদায়ের ধর্ম প্রচার করেননি, কোনও স্বতন্ত্র ধর্মগোষ্ঠী গড়েননি, বরং যা নিত্য, যা সত্যসর্বকালীন-সর্বজনীন একাধারে মনননিষ্ঠ এবং প্রাণে-প্রাণে অনুভবে সহজ-সরলসে দিকেই ছিল তাঁর অমেয় দৃষ্টিপাত। সকলকে এ সম্পর্কে সম্পূর্ণ সজাগ করা।
শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ জানতেন খালি পেটে ধর্ম হয় না। আবার, ভরা পেটেও আত্মসুখী-আত্মপর হয়ে ওঠে মানুষ। এই আত্মপরতন্ত্রতার ঘোর বিরোধিতা করেছেন তিনি।

১৮৯৪ খ্রিস্টাব্দে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ আমেরিকা থেকে সতীর্থ স্বামী শিবানন্দকে একটি চিঠিতে গুরু শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ সম্পর্কে লিখছেন, ‘আমি তাঁর জন্মজন্মান্তরের দাসএই আমার পরম ভাগ্য। তাঁর একটা কথা বেদ-বেদান্ত অপেক্ষা অনেক বড়।’
গুরুভাইদের স্বামীজি অকপটে জানান, ‘এ জন্ম এ শরীর সেই “মূর্খ” বামুন কিনে নিয়েছেন।...তিনি যে তাঁর কার্যভার আমার স্কন্ধে নিক্ষেপ করে গেছেন। তা যে পর্যন্ত না সমাপ্ত করতে পারি, সে পর্যন্ত তিনি তো বিশ্রাম করতে দেবেন না।’
নরেন্দ্রনাথকে দেখিয়ে শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ বলতেন: ‘তুই আমি কি আলাদা? এটাও আমি, ওটাও আমি।’

বিবেকানন্দের তীব্র-তীক্ষ্ন অনুভব‘আমি দেহহীন এক কণ্ঠস্বর’ (voice without a form)। এই কণ্ঠস্বরও শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণেরএকই সঙ্গে সেই কণ্ঠস্বর শাশ্বত ভারতবর্ষের। সে ভারত দরিদ্র, অজ্ঞতায় পূর্ণ, কাতর কিন্তু প্রজ্ঞাসম্পদে ধনী, ঐতিহ্যে প্রাচীন, বহমানতায় সজীব, নবীন। এখানেই ভারত সুমহান। কোটি কোটি ভারতবাসীর ঐতিহ্যমণ্ডিত ভারতবর্ষের দু’হাজার বছরের সাধনার ঘনীভূত রূপ তিনিই (শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ)রম্যাঁ রলা সমগ্র বিশ্বকে জানান সে কথা।
রবি বাবু সে অর্থে আমার বুড়োবাবার সংস্পর্শে আসেননি। কিন্তু তিনিও শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের এই ভাবের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাশীল ছিলেন। ১৯৩৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের জন্মশতবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে ‘প্রবুদ্ধ ভারত’ পত্রিকায় লিখেছিলেন ‘To The Paramhansa Ramkrishna Deva’ নামক একটি কবিতা। সেটিই ‘প্রবাসী’তে বাংলায় লেখেন—“বহু সাধকের বহু সাধনার ধারা/ ধেয়ানে তোমার মিলিত হয়েছে তারা।/ তোমার জীবনে অসীমের লীলাপথে/ নূতন তীর্থ রূপ নিল এ জগতে;/ দেশ বিদেশের প্রণাম আনিল টানি/ সেথায় আমার প্রণতি দিলাম আনি।” ছয় পঙ্ক্তির এই কবিতায় রবীন্দ্রনাথ শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের সমন্বয়ী আদর্শকেই চিত্রিত করেছেন।
রবি ঠাকুরের ‘বহু সাধকের বহু সাধনার ধারা’র মিলিত রূপের concept রল্যাঁর ভাবনা থেকেই সঞ্জাত। ম্যাক্সমুলারের ‘প্রকৃত মহাত্মা,’ অল্ডাস হাক্সলি বা ক্রিস্টোফার ইশারউডের ফিনোমেন্যান ‘তিনিই’রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংস।

The Master explains the truth of this: “By pressing one grain of rice from the pot, one can verify whether all the grains are soft.”
After listening to the Master, we realized that we would fail if we tried to understand the scriptures in that manner. Yet that passage would surely appear to be true if studied according to its context. The Master explained it by using a couple of rural examples. He said: “When rice is boiling in a pot, if you take one grain and press it between your fingers, you instantly know whether all the grains in the pot are soft. Why is this? You haven’t pressed all the grains one by one. How then do you come to this conclusion? Similarly, by examining two or three things in the world, one can know whether the world is eternal or transient, real or unreal. A man is born, lives for some time, and then dies. The same is true of a cow and a tree. After thus observing one thing after another, you come to the conclusion that whatever has name and form follows the same law. The earth, the sun, the moon, and so on have names and forms: they are therefore subject to the same law. Thus, you become aware that everything in this universe is of a similar nature. Don’t you then know the nature of everything in this world? When you thus realize that this world is transient and unreal, you can’t love it anymore; you will remove it from your mind and will be without desire. As soon as you give up desire for the world, you will see God, the source of the world. So when a man has the vision of God, tell me: Is he omniscient or not?”
এই বইটিতে আদ্যোপান্ত সাবলীল গদ্যরীতি অনুসৃত হয়েছে। ফলত সামগ্রিক ভাবে রচনা একটা ধীরস্থির অথচ বিচক্ষণ গতি লাভ করেছে, অহেতুক আলঙ্কারিকতার প্রয়োগ নেই।
পড়তে পারেন ইচ্ছা হলে। মন তৈরি থাকলে ভালো লাগলেও লাগতে পারে।

Instant favourite, much like the Kathamrita, to which this is a fantastic companion text. It took me a few months to get through this, but if the result is an intense intellectual fascination as well as an emotional attachment to Sri Ramakrishna, it is all worth it.
