The Facility holds many dangerous secrets. All of them are worth killing for.
The Facility's most classified asset has just turned up on Kira's doorstep. Azrael. Undeniably beautiful to look at, like a sculpture brought to life, and definitely not the least bit human. But what is he exactly? Kira doesn't have the clearance for that kind of information. All she knows is that he dribbles when he drinks, can't string a sentence together, and his creator is asking her to smuggle him out of the Facility. This is not even remotely the weekend Kira planned. It doesn't involve nearly enough vodka. But she's not about to say no to her own sister, especially when they've barely spoken in years. Kira's sister Blake is one of the brain's behind the Facility's astonishing tech. Azrael is her creation. And something has her running scared.
No matter what you hear, Kira, or what you are told, unless the words come direct from me, do not come back.
Kira knows exactly who Blake works alongside in the covert depths of the Facility. And they aren't the type you mess with, if you like breathing. So what has Blake so desperate? And why the hell didn't she choose someone else to play baby-sitter?
Azrael better be worth it. Like, saving the world, kind of worth it.
Because this game of hide and seek isn't one Kira can afford to lose.
Metal Angels is fast-paced science fantasy with lots of sex, swearing and violence. Buckle Up.
**Language Warning** - if you don't like copious amounts of swearing, then perhaps this one isn't for you. Kira knows all the words and likes to use them. She enjoys it almost as much as sex. So be warned, sexual content contained in this book! (Not graphic or erotica)
Part One of a Four-part SERIAL. **Please note, these are not stand-alone books.**

Giving up at 36%. I bought this on special ages ago, and it fell onto the big pile of books to read when i caught up… but I was in the mood for something different so gave it a go. The premise sounded intriguing, but i struggled to get into it due to a completely unlikeable protagonist, confusing world building and a nonsensical plot. There are aliens who look human and speak English, mad scientists building creatures for no clear reason, all sorts of terms that aren’t explained and some complicated mythology, none of which is explained. This is the beginning of a series and even if it started to make sense, I can’t see me continuing it with all the other more enjoyable books i have to read so i may as well cut my losses now.
“Ancient Aliens” meets “Resident Evil” with a pinch of “Predator”
This book starts out by introducing us a Kira, an alcoholic survivor of a crash that left her mutilated. Foul language and a sour attitude seep from all her pores. But she is summoned by her sister—the same sister that gave her an advanced prosthetic arm.
Once Kira arrives at The Facility, things slow down as the secret aliens are introduced. At this stage, a lot of new lingo is introduced. We learn that a “meld” has been done, and that a “Final Meld” is looming in the near future, where four “hunters” will be brought to Earth. Enter the Ancient Aliens flare. The aliens are servants of Sumerian “gods,” and there are mentions of various texts, including the Bhagavad Gita. Giorgio Tsoukalos would find these parallels amusing.
The Facility is underground, and it includes a secret level. This brings about the “Resident Evil” similarities. This is all the more apparent near the end of the book, when the Final Meld brings the four hunters to Earth amid a chaotic ritual that almost ends in disaster.
The book concludes with Kira on the run with one of the aliens, Azrael. It is evident that in the following books, she will be hunted down. There are few answers in this first book, and one is left wondering if the “Four” are in fact “the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” or simply four “game hunters” like those depicted in the Predator movies.
While Kira seems to clearly be the main character, Blake really steals the show in this opener. Through her perspective, we learn about the Sumerian-styled gods and their god-soldiers. She is both dedicated to her research and vulnerable. By comparison, Kira is brash, foul-mouthed and has a generally bad attitude, which made her hard to relate to—or at times tolerate. That said, she is starting from the very bottom of her pit, and it seems like she will have ample room to grow into a true heroine as the story moves through the future books.
The book was easy to ready and quite creative. If you like “Ancient Aliens,” you will love this series opener!
I kinda wasn't thinking my head was so empty through this so I'm not even gonna try to make some kind of educated review at least upon my first read of it
I'm kinda hooked though. Danielle if u disappoint me I'm gonna cry and probably just punch the walls or something.
Metal Angels offers a unique blend of ancient myths and futuristic technology that's utterly fascinating. Told through the eyes of four characters -- all vastly different from each other and all facing inner demons which will challenge them in the divine war about to play out -- one gets the sense that this first part of the story will build to a climax nothing short of epic in later installments, and this reader is more than ready for the ride to come. I loved the richness of setting -- unfamiliar terms are peppered organically throughout the narrative, never slowing the pace or distracting from the story -- and I especially enjoyed the characters who are fully fleshed and rather flawed. Blake intrigued me from the start; don't be fooled by her discipline and self-control, she has her own secret just like her brash sister, Kira who at this point is a favourite character. Her audacity will make you laugh out loud on the one hand, but on the other she'll undoubtedly form a soft spot in your heart.
Part One comes to a satisfactory ending, though being a serial there are things readers will be keen to know, like what will become of Azrael, will the Gallu follow their destiny and will Blake and Kira mend their fractured relationship? This reader is very much looking forward to more.
The potential for this story line is pretty good so that I hope the author will dig deep for her characters makeup. She has done great on the start of Blake and Kira seriously can't what to see what she has in store for Azareal.
Not a lover of serial books but this one has me intrigued so I will wait to see what is going to happen next.
I don't remember picking this one up and I read it blind. With how this started, I was thinking it was going to flop, but I was pleasantly surprised. This has a really neat premise and the plot is set up well with a few different perspectives. Once it gets going, the pacing is good. I love Azrael, his character is done really well. I'm excited to see him grow. Honestly, the structure worked really well with this book. Jumping perspectives can be jarring, but I was never thrown from the read with the transitions. The plot was not spoiled with the transitions either. That's worth mentioning because a lot of authors seem to struggle with it. This ended so abruptly though, not really a cliffhanger, but nothing actually resolved either. This is why I'm rating it 4 stars. Being that I'm from NZ, I want bothered by the language. That's just how we talk on that side of the hemisphere. Every other word is a swear word down there. Definitely reading the next one.
I really enjoyed this book. It is billed as sci-fi, but it falls somewhere between sci-fi and fantasy. It was interesting, fun, and unique.
The book focuses around a group of aliens who are trying to honor their god by helping him ascend. To do that they have to fulfill the desire of another god to enact a plan of revenge. That's the fantasy feel to the book.
The sci-fi is that these are aliens with advanced and strange tech. There are multiple points of view in this story, although Kira seems to be the main focus. Just a warning, she is a foul person. Very broken. I almost stopped reading after the first chapter, because she is very unlikeable to start. Luckily that changes as you learn her reasons and her motivations.
Overall, this was a fun read, unique, and action packed. I recommend it!
I just read page one of the free preview. You may not enjoy this book if you are sensitive to profanity and explicit nudity. The f-word appears four times on the first page. The protagonist has a roaring hangover and an unsympathetic attitude. Doesn't really entice me to learn more about her character.
I didn't have very high expectations when I started reading this book. But as I got into it, I found it harder and harder to stop. It is a very different type of "girl meets alien" story. I recommend this book and look forward to reading the remainder of the books.
While it was kind of a fun read, it really wasn’t my cup of tea. Channeling of underworld gods for aliens on a bizarre quest. So while I give it four stars, I can’t give it a ‘more’ rating. But I will say ‘maybe’.
Interesting mix of characters - Kira, playgirl sister of chief scientist Blake, who needs to protect her mechanoid, Azreal. Azreal is learning about humans in the real world.
When I first started this book I was very confused. It seemed like I missed a previous book in this series. However, this is Metal Angels-Part One. In saying that, this turned out to be a good book. After getting through the first couple chapters, I was able to catch on and really able to get into reading it. There are four main characters with pov's in this book and I found it pretty easy to follow them. The Syranian's are an alien race hidden from most of humanity by living in a desert compound called The Facility. Their goddess, Ereshkigal, has commanded them to find her demigod mortal enemy, Dumuzi, who has been reborn on earth for over the course of a thousand years. Blake, Kira and Tamas are three of the humans caught in the madness. Eron is a Syranian who was exposed to humans outside of The Facility and now struggles with the repercussions.
This book did end in a cliffhanger because it is part one, but, like another review said, it ended at a good point in the story. I will definitely be on the look out for part two!
This book is a real test of wills; will the humans 0r alien visitors win? Depends upon the time and place. Fast action, some gritty language, but interesting plotline. Meet our metal angel, Kira, bionic arm and heart. Her older sister works in a secret lab with bionics that is also a sanctuary for an alien species with rituals to a water altar. Enter back story ;Kira survived a car wreck which killed her dad and thus she was gifted with bionic parts her sister installed. Add the ongoing hatred of Kira, sister Blake's narrowed focus the research, a missing and returned alien who has spent time with Kira and here we go. Trying to bring ancient lifeforms/gods back into the world has its drawbacks as the characters discover.. Twists and turns in the plot abound and characters stand alone for their originality. Mix in some ancient history, the addictive intoxicating water of the aliens, a lab rebellion and escape and you are ready to go. This book impressed me as very unique in the plot and kept me reading nonstop. Better; see for yourself!
Futuristic Religious Aliens hiding on Earth in the Facility.
I didn't reach the point of "can't set it down" but the storyline is intriguing enough to keep reading and still allowing me some much needed sleep at night. Part One sets the groundwork and gives you some good insight into each of the four main characters.
Kira is a hot mess and likes it that way, she has alien tech for an arm after a car accident. Blake prefers to have every thing in her life beyond figured out. She is a brilliant technician working with the aliens. Tamas can't even look a stranger in the eye, but is expected to lead as he has a mental link to the goddess. Eron is a Syranian, the alien race. He is interested in humanity, but is on Earth to serve his gods.
The book does end on a cliffhanger, but was done well. I won't be stewing over a bombshell while I wait for Part Two, even though I will be waiting for Part Two.
3.5 Stars - I enjoyed it, I read it in favor of doing other things, but it didn't leave a major impact on me afterwards.
It's important to know going in that this is part of a serialized story, because it doesn't end with any sort of conclusion.
This was a fun book to read, putting the focus on a number of people who are coping with trauma in different ways. The two sisters at the heart of the story are both fascinating, and their choices are self-destructive without feeling frustrating to me as a reader, or making them unlikable as protagonists. Although the plot occasionally suffers from "withholding information to ratchet up the tension for no good reason" syndrome, the overall mystery of what is going on is well handled and leaves me curious to know more about both the sisters and the aliens.
This is an awesome read. I immediately connected with sisters Kira and Blake, totally fascinated by their complicated relationship, which has been fractured by tragedy. I also loved the world building, entering the Facility to discover bio-engineering experts, robotics, aliens, gods and angels. It's a fascinating and addictive read. And it's been a long time since I've read a book that I didn't want to put down. Looking forward to part two!
This book was a pretty good read. The characters were well thought out and the world building was okay. It read a bit slow for me, but this isn't my normal genre. I would definitely give this book a chance, especially if you like this type of sci-fi.
Ugh. 20 pages. All I could muster. The writing was cheesy. The characters were worse. And opening a novel with a cyborg sex scene is the best way to dismiss my interest in reading further.
