This a solid dark urban fantasy, set in an interesting world where orcs, dwarves and elves co-exist, and humans are bottom of the food chain, slaves to their orcish masters. The non-human races run massive corporations that hold governments hostage (in a sense).

Step forward, Vega, the man who stands between the orcs and the complete enslavement of humanity. He in known as the Orc Slayer, attacking their corporate holdings and rescuing what humans he can. He is troubled, taking on the saving of humanity almost by himself, and struggling under the weight of his task.

The story is told mostly from the perspective of Vega, but also his begrudging sidekick Quapip, an alcoholic gnome (yup) who is a master of elemental magic, but despises the other non-human races. Also thrown into the mix is a dwarf, Graldur, who sides with Vega after discovering his employers shady dealings. This does not go down well with Quapip, and one can sense trouble brewing when the topic of trust comes up.

I liked the story for the most part. The action and plot were good and the characters likable enough, but the scenes at "The Farm" slowed the story down, in my opinion.

If you like urban fantasy with a gritty edge, you should add Vega: Orc Slayer to your list.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I had adventure. It had laughs. It had twists that I did not see coming. It is a creative story and unlike anything I have read previously and I loved that about this book. I definitely did not know what to expect. I am so glad I read this story and I look forward to reading so much more from this author.
