You don’t mess with aspiring journalist Holly Johnson! The man she fell for is not all that he seems – because sometimes dating online doesn’t quite go to plan. She’s decided to fly from Ireland to New York to surprise him and to get some answers. And if her plan works she’ll also get the scoop of her career…
But as she steps out of her yellow taxi and the first snowflakes start to fall, it’s Holly who has the surprise of her life. What should be a dream come true is looking a little like a nightmare. But Holly is determined to get her happy ending!
Claudia was born in Dublin and is a graduate of UCD, the College of Music and of the Gaiety School of Acting. Since then she has worked extensively as an actress on the Irish stage, but is probably best known for her role as TV’s Nicola Prendergast in the long running Dublin soap opera, ‘Fair City.’
This is not the type of book that I normally read but a friend gave me a copy and so I read it. It was an okay book but I thought it way too predictable. Not really my cup pf tea.
Just from looking at and reading the cover of this book, I was excited to get into it as the storyline sounded compelling and very relevant to online dating life today. So my curiosity was piqued.
The caption “What if THE ONE isn’t who you think he is” was so cleverly thought out and definitely caught my attention. Because of this, I was excited to get in with the story, but I found the pace rather slow, and had I not been in holiday with lots of free time, I probably would not have finished the book so fast. However, I thought the plot and all the twists were pretty clever. The book is also written from an Irish girl’s perspective, so it was nice to get a glimpse into life in the “Emerald Island.” And one can help but root for Holly - such a brave character!
Some poignant thoughts were shared throughout the novel that I felt brought up important points to bring awareness and highlight the need for caution for those who engage in online dating: “It’s frightening how astonishingly easy it is to lure some unsuspecting soul into believing in a fake online profile. “. And, “All I ever knew about Andy was exactly what he chose to tell me.” It goes without saying that you can not know the complete truth of a person only by what they say online.
An overall enjoyable light read for the holidays. A three-star rating from me!!
This book was such a cute read for Christmas!! I was totally caught up in the story, with every twist and turn. Mostly, I just loved having all of the Irish-isms and being back in the world of Dublin - even if it was only through reading. Loved the characters and the easy plot. I wish some things had been revealed a little sooner, but it made it interesting to have them held off. Solid 3.5 stars for me!
This was a cute little romance novel. Although, to be honest, I was starting to get annoyed with how long it took to give us some answers to things mentioned at the beginning of the book. It’s one thing to leave readers in suspense and another to string us along just because you can. All in all, it was cute
I really enjoyed this story. I particularly loved the trip to NYC as it brought me back to when I visited there. I am definitely going to check out other books by this author.
i quite enjoyed this easy to read, tale of transatlantic romance and warning of online dating shenanigans. I loved the Irish-isms and amusing style of writing.
