This inspiring book is perfect for new and old Chibird fans. Chen and her animal friends are ready to brighten anyone’s day, one comic at a time.
Jacqueline Chen has been drawing motivational comics and animations since high school and has cheered up millions of people along the way. When she's not making art, she's designing and coding. She loves bubble tea and ice cream a little too much.
I absolutely love Chibird to begin with, so I was really excited to read this, and it is exactly what I needed today. Jacqueline Chen specializes in motivational comics, and this entire book is just full of motivation, inspiration, optimism, hope, love, warmth, positivity, and cuteness. If there has ever been a warm, cozy hug in book form, Loading Penguin Hugs is it. ♥

That was exactly how I was feeling and so I clicked on it. These comics were instant gratification and immediately made me smile. Just what I needed.
This collection of comics is short at 88 pages but I have read it three times (so far). The author's illustrations are just so cute and feature animals, people, and small pep talks. I am not sure how many of them have been previously featured on her website but I loved them.

Cute and inspiring book of comics. The art is very good and crisp and the humor was on point. My only dislike is some of the quotes feel very repetitive.
ℹ Disclosure: I received an arc copy of this book from Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley and I’m reviewing it voluntarily.
I love flicking through these ebooks of cute compiled images sometimes. I often see the gif versions of these fly by on WhatsApp and they are the cutest. It was lovely to see some new ones in here and it was such a heartwarming read :)

I follow this artist from tumblr and I love her art. It's adorable and heartwarming and always makes me smile. This book was a quick, easy and uplifting read. The illustrations are colorful and cuddly. There isn’t necessarily a connecting thread in the pages and some messages came across as redundant and repetitive but it didn’t bother me too much. This is definitely a book that requires you to have it as a physical copy so you can open it on a random page when you’re feeling under the weather and get a burst of positivity and cuteness.
This was the cutest book in the whole entire world of cute. This would be a perfect book to put in the restroom, the doctors office, or in your classroom. Sometimes we need to know that we aren't perfect, but that its okay. I couldn't have smiled more or been more happy after reading this book. Oh my goodness. Cuteness alert!
Funny and cute but at the same time very light. One page reminder, thinking, motivation cartoons that is good for the moral. The kind of book you could let out in your house and pick it up at a random page when you feel a bit depress.
'thank you to all my emotions, not just the positive ones. the negative ones tell you when something's wrong and needs to change, and that's really important.'
'you are not selfish for wanting better than what you have now.'
This review was originally posted on my review blog Deanna Reads Books If you have ever seen the sending hugs gif, and I'm sure you have, then this comic book collection will have a similar feel to you. You actually might have seen a few of these short comics before reading this book. This book is another cute, comic collection that just makes you feel good. Actually, that is this book's purpose. In addition to the really cute artwork, the point of the book is to be able to open it when you are having a rough day to have a reminder that you can do whatever it is you are struggling with. I LOVE that.
If you can't tell from the cover, the artwork in this book is adorable! There are these really cute little penguins, dogs, and other animals in it that really make you feel all warm and fuzzy. There is even an entire panel of "Positive Puppers" which I loved so much. They are all so cute!
I like that the message behind this book is positive reinforcements. At the back of the book there is even an index for if you are feeling a certain way you can turn to a short comic to help you. As a negative, cynical person, whom has never felt like they have ever been "good enough" a lot of these comics had things I definitely needed to hear. If you are down in the dumps and need some motivation, or just some support this is a great place to find that.
This is a short read, it's only about 88 pages long. I actually flipped through the whole thing on my lunch break. So it's definitely a book I recommend if you want a short but fun read.
*I received an egalley of this comic from Netgalley
This book is an absolute delight to read. It's everything I needed after a long week of classes and studying - simple, cheerful, and motivational. The comics in Loading Penguin Hugs are mostly single-panel stand-alone comics featuring ADORABLE art that reminds me of Pusheen or similar chibi-style animation. If someone gave me a greeting card featuring one of Jacqueline Chen's characters, I would probably tear up. It's just so simple and cute. Loading Penguin Hugs would make a great stocking stuffer or holiday gift for just about anyone - your thirteen-year-old niece, your co-worker, or your dentist.

I was a third of the way into Loading Penguin Hugs when I abruptly stopped reading and went to pre-order it for a friend. It is the perfect book for so many of us, and if I were loaded with penguins cash, I’d pre-order it for half a dozen more friends.
You may already be familiar with this artist because of her ghost hug gif that’s been floating around the internet (“you can’t feel it but it’s there!”). This whole book is full of the same cute art and sentiments!
While the art is sweet and childlike, I’d say the motivational messages in here are more relevant to teenagers and young adults. Those two age groups are have grown up under the influence of a social media that forces us to constantly compare ourselves to our peers and to only see our flaws as contrasted by their successes. This book is not just full of encouragement, but it also acknowledges negative feelings and accepts that they’re necessary sometimes.
I would recommend this to stressed teenagers, panicking young adults, to anyone who wants a hug but can’t get one at the moment, and to someone who needs to be reminded that nice things exist in this world. :)
Absolutely as adorable and inspiring as expected. Although I am not usually a person to search out positive affirmations like the ones here, I just cannot resist the adorableness of the drawings–especially the penguin! Each page has a doodle with an adorable animal or human friend wishing you positivity, encouragement, or a word of advice. They provide your daily dose of cuteness *and* inspiration, and it’s the best. I’m not sure how many of these have already been published online and how many are new to the book, but if you love these little comics, or know a friend who would, it’s the perfect addition to your bookshelf.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy to review!
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the e-ARC copy!
As expected from the cover, Loading Penguin Hugs was a cute and adorable read. Chen's minimalist art style is simple and clean while still being colorful, and it should appeal to a variety of readers. The short comics offer a wellspring of advice on various life happenings coupled with adorable representative images.
I'm not sure what more I can say about this collection of comic shorts beyond the fact that readers should hopefully be smiling by the end of the book. My only concern is that there were quite a few blank pages in the digital download, so I wonder if there were some comics that I missed out on reading or if there would be a placeholder on those pages.
I recommend Loading Penguin Hugs for readers in need of a pick-me-up and those who enjoy Chen's minimalist and cute images.
I had seen the author's illustrations before and I found them super cute. They're sweet and motivational at the same time and that's difficult to do, but the author really achieves it.
This kind of illustrations/comics/book is what I mean when I say I want to read motivational stuff.
The topic is kinda repetitive, but that doesn't mean I didn't recommend it. I would love to have a physical copy to read when I'm in a bad mood.

I’ve been following Chibird on Instagram for over a year now and I LOVE her comics! I was so excited for her when I found out she was coming out with a book! Thanks for Netgalley for giving me an early peek at this wonderful book.
Jaqueline Chen’s book is so cute and heartwarming, good for anyone who is having a bad day. The cute animals and sweet messages are wonderful pick-me-ups. I recommend this to anyone.
I received a free ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Overall this was a cute little book. This is not a sit down in one sitting book but a cute lil pocket book to look at when need a bit of a cheer up and happy wisdom. I would love to have this a daily calendar. Recommend read for anyone looking for a happy little pickup.
This book is like a hot chocolate cup on a cold winter night, it's literally like a hug! I think I'll be reading it again and again whenever I need a boost or a hug, whenever I'm feeling down and in need of a reminder that I'm doing okay. I mean it's worth just for the cute animals illustrations! I highly, highly recommend it! I really thank netgalley for this book!
