Bitter Sweet

Rate this book
He was bitter.

She was sweet.

He was darkness.

She was light.

Their love was bittersweet.

* * * *

Tasneem was a natural artist. She could create masterpieces with anything whether it be makeup, paints, or cooking. Her tuition bills are becoming too hard for her family to handle and their café isn't as popular as it was before. Until one day, the ruthless CEO of Tarkan Industries walks in and completely changes everything.

Two personalities that constantly clash and a tragic past leave Tasneem more eager to unravel the mysteries behind the cold CEO. Perhaps, she might be the one to finally bring peace to his bitter soul with only the recipe of sweetness.

I hesitated to mark this as Muslim rep. While it was definitely a romance book with Muslims, I don't know if I would call its writing Muslim rep. Its portrayal of Muslims was fine, and the romance was adorable. It just does not seem like a book Muslims should be reading. I considered DNFing it multiple times because of the immense vulgar language and there were several scenes that brushed too close to spice for a "halal romance". You cannot talk about God and drop F-bombs in the same chapter. It's incredibly disrespectful and I feel bad for saying it because the author seems sweet and it looks like she had good intentions. And when you look past language and the almost spice, this was a decent Muslim novel. there were so many Islamic themes and so many mini lessons and reminders about Islam. Genuinely there was a lot worth learning in this novel.

yes, i did it again. i got bored of yet another book. the starting was so good and entertaining but somewhere around the middle i lost interested in it.

it’s probably because the plot moved towards some business enemy going against main characters. personally, i expected to read mostly romance, not about company. (ofc the main focus is romance but midway through the book another plot is introduced)

the first half of the book was absolutely perfect.

the writing is absolutely beautiful tho mashaallah. the writer is extremely talented. allahuma barik

this book is love. Truly. it's beautiful and wondrous and quite roughly but repeatably represents a lot of Muslim girl around the world. the characters are not at all cliche like I have read in many muslin love stories and this beyond a doubt is a gem. A MUST READ EVERYONE.

A really sweet and romantic book that touched on pressing issues present today. Only issue was that I felt it was dragged on a little.

Still loved it!
