“What would it take to make you believe the Devil is real? What would you need to see?”
Many years ago, Jane Smith was someone else. She was Kimberly Baker, a little girl who – with her friend – murdered another girl at their school. Kimberly was taken away by the authorities and sent to a psychiatric hospital. She grew up surrounded by doctors and nurses, knowing nothing of the real world.
Now she's free again.
Living a humdrum life in a quiet town, under the new name Jane Smith, Kimberly just wants to forget her past. She can handle the occasional glimpses of a ghostly figure in her apartment. She knows the supposed ghosts are just figments of her imagination. She just wants to live and be left alone.
And then a little boy goes missing.
Suddenly Kimberly is thrust back into the spotlight. For the police, the kidnapping is extremely similar to the crime that Kimberly committed all those years ago. Mysterious markings have been left on trees, hinting at a demonic plot. Kimberly used to hear a voice in her head, a voice that told her to kill. The voice has been gone for a long time now, but has it returned in someone else's mind? Can Kimberly trust herself? And is the Devil finally going to prove that he exists?
16 FRAMES OF THE DEVIL'S FACE is the story of a woman who wants to forget her past, but who starts to realize that she's linked forever to a powerful force that refuses to stay buried.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
I really don't know what to expect from an Amy Cross book, sometimes riveting, sometimes disturbing and sometimes just plain boring. This book contained all three. The plot meandered all over the place, leading me to suspect that there is more than one author writing "Amy Cross" books. That said, it won't stop me from reading further installments.
I love the way Amy Cross writes. The suspense keeps the reader hooked. The concept of this novel and the characters were very interesting. The only thing that made me uneasy was the way the story ended. It was not according to my liking that's why 4 stars instead of 5.
It's very rare for me to finish a book in one sitting, but I did this one! It's not a book for the faint hearted, I mean it the title has 'Devil' in. Anyway! We follow the story of mainly Kimmy, a woman with a dark past - her and her childhood friend murdered another little girl when they were younger, all because a voice told them to.
Kimmy, now Jane, lives a mundane life keeping to herself, constantly terrified someone will recognize her from her past, but overall manages to blend in. Until a young boy goes missing, and the same symbols her friend carved all those years ago are found with his bloodied clothes. Leaving Jane a top suspect.
The Author is very clever in the way she reveals information, and I liked the switch from adult Kimmy to child Kimmy, as it filled in some gaps for me. Though I really wasn't a fan of her character until the last few chapters... I say few, but the way the author does chapters is very odd! With some being less than a paragraph long, then several pages, or just words, and the majority of the time I felt as a reader the chapter break wasn't needed. So that intrigued me to say the least.
I don't know where to start... I guess the pros, well, chapters were short so it made it easy to move through the pages. The pages up to chapter 15 were edited wonderfully which made it also easier to move through the story. There were certain sections that the author did a good job at describing the scene and putting the reader into the story. After chapter 15 it went downhill from there. Obvious writing mistakes brought me to constantly pause and reread. The story itself became so absurd. Think Hereditary if the mom lived. And the only thing coming from that movie that was good was the acting. The author did well developing a few of the characters where you felt for them, but the story, oh boy, did not make sense. It did not seem realistic. When you thought it was over it just kept going into even further scratching your head moments. However, if you were a fan of Hereditary and the weirdness than by all means pick this one up and give it a read. For me, it was not my cup of tea.
Kimmy and Jessica killed a little girl when they were just children themselves. They told the doctors that a voice told them to do it. Several years later they are both out of the physichatric hospital in different locations under new names being told they can never speak to each other again. This is where I'll stop so I don't give out no spoilers, but this is a must read book!
This book is about two girls who murder a younger girl Sabrina. They are sent away to separate psychiatric facilities and are released as young women under new identities. When a young boy named Tommy Draped goes missing all hell breaks out in the quiet town. Who is to blame? A very enjoyable read 😃📕
I love Amy Cross books, I usually read horror books but stumbled on Cross and have been addicted since, highly recommend reading this and all her other books!
Excellent books by Amy Cross, got hooked on Reading her stuff and it's all very well written and amazing to read Highly recommend reading this book
This is a very well written story... The characters are great and the plot is a very old one, which this author has added a very interesting twist to, making this a very interesting read. Want a great horror story, this is one for you.
This book has way more going on than the plot summary would have you believe. Like some mythology creature, first it's one thing, then another. The one thing that remains constant is just how good it is.
This is once again an Amy cross thriller it keeps you thinking and wondering is the devil real? The bible says so we must believe and keep trying to keep him out of our lives
I didn't like this story. It was boring and I really didn't care for the underdeveloped characters. I'm a huge Amy Cross fan but this book isn't my favorite.
This book took a looong time to get get going. It was confusing and hard to follow at the beginning. I almost gave up on it. I stuck with it d it turned out okay.
