May Stewart’s father, King James VII, demands she choose a husband within a fortnight. The list of approved suitors leaves her uninspired at the courtship festivities until fate intervenes, and an uninvited stranger sparks her interest.
Unfortunately, even uttering handsome Aiden MacMahon’s surname is a capital offense, for it whispers of a dark curse that dictates the daylight belongs to the beast on their family crest.
The MacMahon name is not a choice the king will allow for May, but she cannot deny the connection she has with Aiden. When May discovers her own secret lineage holds the key to reversing the MacMahon curse, her choice of suitor becomes so much more than just a marriage match.
But choosing Aiden MacMahon could lead them both into death’s cold embrace.

May Stewart’s father, King James VII, has given her a fortnight to choose a husband or he will choose one for her! She finds herself completely uninspired and uninterested in any of the approved of suitors that have been gathered for the courtship festivities until fate intervenes and an uninvited stranger catches her eye. Unfortunately, even uttering Aiden MacMahon’s surname is a capital offense because it whispers of the dark curse plaguing his lineage, a curse that gives their daylight hours to the very beast that is on their family crest. Even though the MacMahon name is not one the King will even consider for his only daughter, May can’t resist the strong connection she has with Aiden. And when she learns that her own lineage holds the key to reversing the curse on the MacMahon family, her choice of suitors suddenly becomes about much more than just a marital relationship. The problem is that pairing up to reverse the curse may lead them both to their deaths.
I’ve dearly enjoyed all of J.E. Taylor’s “Fractured” fairy tales but this one is definitely my favorite, so far. I’ve read many reimaginings of the classic fairy tales and this series definitely stands out from the rest. Taylor has a knack for taking these beloved stories and making them completely her own. They’re imaginative and well thought out. The heroines are brave and honorable, but they’re also genuine. They have flaws so that makes them seem more realistic. All of the characters in this story were well written. I liked that you could tell that her father wasn’t trying to keep them apart just because he had forbidden them to be together and that’s how it was going to be! Though he was a bit stubborn about the deadline for choosing a husband. I could definitely see where May got her stubbornness from! Taylor also did a wonderful job in describing the setting. I could picture everything in my mind. I’m honestly excited about reading the next book in the series because they’ve all been so good, so far.
This is my favorite of this series so far! Loved J.E. Taylor's take on the Brave story. This one is quite different than the story I know, and I totally loved it! Passionate love story of forbidden love, cursed family name, vindictive spirits, and bears on a rampage! Lots of fun to be had! May is still a strong female character, who is wicked with a bow and arrow. She's way too forgiving though! She needed to tell her dad off more. J.E. Taylor's take on Brave is unique, and goes in an unexpected direction. I loved it! There is quite a dark element to this story, which I enjoy. The romance is wonderful! It's sweet, but also intense. Super excited to read the next book in the series! Really loving all the books!
I really enjoyed the premise.. but it was too short to be properly executed. All names are changed from Disney so Merida = Mae.. etc.. and I'm not sure it was still Scottish? The premise i really enjoyed was: what if the Mordu family line was actually cursed by Merida family line who was a witch ... and they fell in last at first sight. His last of his line and last of the royal line cursed. Really interesting premise! I just wish it was written better... and more.
....and there’s even a “little, not-so-bad, wolf in the story as well. Sizzle of passion, the curse and what must be sacrificed to thwart the evil witch...all the makings for a great Fairy Tale. What happen to Shadow near the end?! I’m on to “Tangled”! Love these stories!!
May is a princess. She needs to choose Her housband from men pointed by Her father. She took interest in Aiden. But he is cursed and will be swntencwd to death by The crown. This read was intriguing more on FT side than adult. Yet proportions were Great and gave not captivating story.
What a difference a few choice words can make! So much the opposite of what I know. And so Mich better!!! Love wins out in the end, but the journey is not what you would've expected!!!
Always killing animals in her books, I hate that. What's wrong with that woman... And she just love sex in her books. That's fine by me, but why so much details? I don't know if I'll read the other books, it's a shame ...
