Love, love, love to write. Especially stuff that's scary, tense and freaks people out. Doesn't have to have ghosts. The funnest scenes to write are the ones that hold the reader tight and stops their breathing. So fun.

Ghosters 2 is about Joey and Elbie, two boys that are friends at school that also happen to be able to see ghosts. When there are some weird things happening in the library at school, they know it is a ghost and in order to get things operational again they have to help it.

Elbie live in a mortuary with his parents and likes to prank people. Joey is a young boy that is very well behaved and happens to also have Asperger's. He is a wonderful representation of these behaviors in a kind way, it is obvious but not over the top. The story is told from Joey's point of view.

I enjoyed this story quite a bit even though I had not read the first book in the series. This one seemed to touch back on book one a few times, which was fine there were more than enough details to keep a reader interested. I liked the plot and it moved at a good pace and was interesting with all the mystery behind who the ghost was and what it needed help with. I think it would make a wonderful read for middle grade readers, it has a great plot with lots of very relatable characters for diverse readers, it is interesting and it ends on such a wonderful note even though the ending was a bit spooky.

Ghosters 2: Revenge of the Library Ghost by Diana Corbitt

Joey Martinez and Elbie Bird are sixth grade friends whose class is in the school library when a ghost starts wreaking havoc. Neither of these two boys are bothered by ghosts, they are part of their daily life. Joey Martinez lives in a haunted house with his older sister, Theresa, and their father. Joey, who narrates the story, is a high functioning Asperger's/autism spectrum individual. He struggles with social cues, sarcasm, and takes things quite literally. It is enlightening to watch as he works through his neurotypical world for understanding. Elbie struggles with ADHD, and has lived over a funeral home his entire life. Ghosts are nothing new to either of these boys.

The problem is finding a way to communicate with each ghost. Since this ghost is holding a new book Joey wants to check out hostage, he has to figure out why the ghost is angry and how he and his side-kick Elbie can help set things right. Thankfully they have Joey’s older sister, Theresa, and her ghost-chasing friend Kerry. It’s interesting and educational to watch how Joey navigates in his neurotypical world as we are often in his head. This will benefit all young readers understanding classmates who struggle with a similar diagnosis.

The story is engaging and has many twists that call for Theresa’s and Kerry’s involvement. It is a complicated plot the kids need to work through. There are plenty of humorous moments to ease the tension. The climax is brilliant with lots of action as these four friends satisfy the ghostly entity’s desires. And Joey gets the book he wanted.

In the aftermath Elbie and Kerry are having a difficult time keeping things to themselves because of an ongoing criminal investigation. There are some good things happening around their school library now. Then Elbie and Joey are asked to come straight to Elbie’s house after school for a heartwarming end of the book. These two supposedly challenged boys not only brought justice to one spirit they also succeeded in improving the resting place for many other spirits.

FYI: “Revenge of the Library Ghost” is the second book of the Ghosters series. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy.** May 24, 2019
Format/Typo Issues: The book file I was given was a formatting nightmare and should have been tossed. However, I liked the characters so I plowed through. In looking at the version now available on Amazon it appears these issues have been fixed, so no stars were deducted.

Synopsis: It’s been a year since Theresa and her English friend, Kerry, won the Ghosters contest. Now her little brother, Joey, has stumbled on a mystery in the school library. Review: Again, this book does well for me and I liked it more than the first one. I thought the author did well to improve the character development and the world building was still well done. The book had a great story with it and the plot kept me hooked from beginning to end.

However, I did think the ending was a bit predictable and the book did have some slower moments in it.

Verdict: It was great!

I found this second installment of the Ghosters series to be even more enjoyable than the first. This one was narrated from Joey’s perspective, which gave the reader a better glimpse into how his Asperger’s mind works and provided numerous laughable moments. Joey and his friend Elbie--who lives above his family’s mortuary and so is very familiar with the behavior of ghosts--begin noticing strange things happening in their school library that they attribute to a ghost. They recruit the help of Joey’s sister, Theresa, and her friend Kerry to determine what the ghost is trying to communicate and end up solving an adult-sized mystery in the process.

What I enjoyed about this book that took it farther than the first one for me was the bigger mystery at stake--not only do Joey and company solve the mystery of what the ghost is saying, but they end up taking on detective work normally reserved for professionals. I loved this sort of double layering to the story, and I always think it’s so fun to see kids accomplish things that leave adults dumbfounded. I also thought it was fun to hear from Joey’s perspective, as mentioned above. This, in combination with Elbie’s proclivity for pulling pranks, provided for some good laughs throughout the book. Overall, Elbie was an enjoyable addition to the cast of characters, and I’d like to see him show up in the third--or any other books to follow--as well. My one critique related to him is that I was a little uncomfortable with his frequent use of the colloquialism “dawg,” specifically because he is black. I don’t know if I’m overthinking this, but especially in light of today’s conversations around race, I would be interested to know how POC would perceive this.

Ghosters 2 is a perfect find!

My kids (ages 8 and 12), enjoy watching “scary” shows like Goosebumps and Creeped Out. This is something I will recommend to them!

Plot is more like a “whodunit” mystery with grade school level detectives. Who just happen to have the ability to see and communicate with ghosts! If that isn’t creepy enough, one of the main characters, Elbie Bird, lives over the family-owned funeral home.

Joey Martinez is another main character and the story is told through his eyes. Ghosters 2 is dotted with lovable “Joey Moments”. (This is what I call them.)

Mr. Bird: “Now, you boys get on up there. It’s time to hit the sack.”

Joey: “Is the sack upstairs? Why does it need hitting?”

That is an example of a JOEY MOMENT. You will find yourself cheering for him as he struggles with his Asperger’s Syndrome. He may not “get” every facial expression, figure of speech, or metaphor thrown at him, but once in a while, he gets it!
“Elvis has not left the building, YET.” Chuckle, chuckle... you GO, Joey!

Elbie Bird is that wonderful, warm friend that any kid would want to have. I found myself chuckling a LOT at the banter between Joey and Elbie. From Elbie’s stories, pranks, wisecracks, quips, and teacher nicknames, to Joey’s inner dialogue and taking things literally, Ghosters 2 is definitely a fun and humorous ride into a ghostly mystery that mostly takes place at Fern Creek Elementary.

Yes. Ghosts. There are ghosts in this story. It’s GHOSTERS. There is even a part where a ghost takes over a person, but it’s done in a way that isn’t traumatic.

Can you imagine the play dates over at Elbie’s home/funeral home? Some chapters do get into the experience of being at the funeral home, so that’s where a lot of the creepiness factor comes in.

Ghosters 2 is NOT TYPICAL. The characters are not typical, the funeral home/home is not typical, the main characters with Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD are not typical. The ghost communication is not typical.

This is why Ghosters 2 stands out. At the heart of this non-typical story with non-typical characters, is a FRIENDSHIP that is the true highlight. At the core, Ghosters 2 is about how lucky Joey and Elbie are to have each other. Parents, sisters, family, take a supporting, back-seat role in this story.

I also want to note the interesting “nerd” facts and new words scattered throughout. Unkempt, callous, disheveled, habituation, and 🕷🕸 science/bug facts, are just some of the things your kid will encounter, aside from the ghosts. 👻👻👻

I rate this book 5 stars ★★★★★.
I had a great time reading this book and I would read it again! OK as a stand-alone read.

I enjoyed Ghosters 2: Revenge of the Library Ghost* more than Ghosters because this story was more light-hearted than the first book.

This book is written from Joey’s point of view, which initially confused me, having just finished reading the first book, which was written from Theresa’s point of view. However, it did not take long before I made the mental switch to Joey’s point of view, and I was lost in the story.

Like with the first book, my favorite aspect is how people with disabilities/disorders are portrayed. Joey has Asperger's; his best friend, Elbie, has ADHD. Both characters are portrayed as real people. Yes, they have their quirks, but each character has value and worth in this story.

Reading this book from Joey’s point of view, you get to see the effort he makes to practice techniques his teachers want him to work on, such as making eye contact and reading facial expressions, something particularly challenging for people with Asperger's. You see Joey’s attempts to use figures of speech, which aren’t always effective and lead to good laughs. You see Joey’s internal struggle as he strives to do the right thing when confronted with gray-area situations during his investigation.

Having a couple of main characters who struggle with Asperger's and ADHD yet end up being the heroes of the story sends a message to children that no matter what you are struggling with in life, you can accomplish great things.

P.S. It is not necessary to read the books in order; however, their will be some details that might make more sense if you did.

*I was provided with Ghosters and Ghosters 2 free of charge in exchange for my review of it. I received no monetary compensation, only the privilege and enjoyment that comes with reading a well-written story, and this story is indeed well-written.

This is a delightful story of two unique boys – Joey who has Asperger’s and Elbie who lives above a mortuary. They both share one thing in common – they can see ghosts! Together they are a force to be reckoned with as one is a practical joker and the other is learning to be. Together with a couple of professional ghost hunters (ok, not really but they are girls, about the same age as the boys and they won a ghost contest), they solve the mystery of the haunted library.

I loved this book! It was fun to read, light and had moments where I would laugh out loud. It was well written with the plot moving forward with each page. The character development for each was well done and each character had their own quirks which made them more realistic.

Although it was written for ages 9-14, adults can love this book as well! Diana Corbitt, the author, built the characters with tender loving care and a realness. The dialog was perfectly done and the “pranks” were corny but funny – typical kid stuff. I think the age group that it is written for will love it as well – I read passages to my 16-year-old grandson who loves all things ghostly and he asked for a copy.

Although I read book 2 in the series, it is a stand-alone. The only issue is … you will want to read the first one and then any others that come along! You will be hooked.

I have just finished reading this little gem and all I want to say is that it's such an enjoyable read!
I haven't read the first book of the Ghosters series but I managed to get through this one without any major confusion so - no, you don't have to read these in order (which is great when it comes to children's books).
What I loved most about this book is that it is mostly written from the point of view of a young boy - Joey, who as Asperger Syndrome. In various parts of the book we can see that Joey is struggling to understand metaphors or phrases such as "losing my marbles". He treats them all literally and doesn't understand their deeper meaning. He also struggles to understand why his friends are telling lies in some situations. I think that writing the book from his perspective gives children a great introduction into what Asperger Syndrome is and how it can affect the way a person functions.
That aside, the story itself is great! We can see a group of friends stumbling across a ghost in their school library and after doing some investigating they find out that the ghost needs help with solving a mystery. The story is filled with action and is very humorous, I found myself smiling a lot while reading. The ending seemed a little bit rushed to me, but maybe I'm digging in too deep into the story.
Would definitely recommend for children and adults alike!

This book is prefect for kids ages 9 -12, especially for Halloween, is a fun read full of ghosts, mysteries and pranks!

The characters are funny, the setting is great as it takes place in a library, funeral home, school and even the town fair! Well written and the pacing is well done and steady throughout. Kids will have a great spooky time reading this. In this book Joey and Elbie have a mystery to solve on a ghost's behalf, so they can clear a woman's name and find the real culprit for a crime she didn't commit. Joey has aspergers syndrome which makes an interesting POV with him misunderstanding what people mean and say. Elbie is a bit of a prankster, found him annoying at first but he grew on me. Joey and Elbie have a great friendship which is a very realistic childhood friendship, reminds me of friendships I had as a child.
The ending is a wild ride and wraps up nicely.

The only thing that bothered me was the line "tic-tac smile" I felt it was used too much and annoyed me a little and took me out of the story whenever it was used.

I'm not a middle grade reader but I can appreciate this as it does exactly what it needs to in order to entertain kids. And even though I don't read middle grade I did still enjoy this, it was a good little read and I am glad I read it.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for a honest review.

Review of LIBRARY GHOST (GHOSTERS BOOK TWO) by Diana Cribbins

LIBRARY GHOST is every bit as exciting as GHOSTERS, the first in the series, with the pleasurable addition of a new narrator. Joey Martinez, younger brother of Theresa (one of the heroines of GHOSTERS), has high-functioning Asperger's Syndrome. Very intelligent, he doesn't do social cues well (such as facial expressions, sarcasm, and snark). But he always reaches conclusions, and in his own special and endearing, though occasionally frustrating, way.

Also introduced is Joey's new friend, Elbie Bird, a young black student who is the son of a mortician and expecting a mortician career for himself in the future. Joey isn't fond of Elbie's home (the funeral parlor started by Elbie's great-grandfather) but he is always welcomed by Elbie's parents and made to feel at home. When the boys' class experiences odd events one day in the School Library, the boys, plus Theresa and her best friend, the English emigre Kerry, begin to investigate. Before it's over, they will have exposed wrongdoing and effectively righted a wrong, with major assistance from “beyond the grave.”

This is an exciting and involving series. I've read each book in one sitting; I just couldn't stop.

I had the privilege to read "Ghosters 2: Revenge of the Library Ghost" at the request of the author Diana Corbitt and I absolutely adored this follow-up to her novel "Ghosters". This time the story revolves around Joey, Theresa's little brother, and his friend Elbie. Diana perfectly captures the personalities of middle school aged children while encouraging her readers to connect with the characters of the book. In addition the story also provides humor and fun, bone-chilling ghost hunting adventures within Joey's school setting. When the school's library starts showing signs of paranormal activity, Joey and the rest of the gang are the only ones who can help set things right and serve up some well-deserved revenge. "Ghosters 2" is a great read for people of all ages as it will relate to young readers and adult readers by taking these older readers on a trip down memory lane to their middle school years. Like it's predecessor, Ghosters 2: Revenge of the Library Ghost boats a well-earned rating of 4.71 stars on Goodreads. The author Diana Corbitt lives in the California Bay area and she is a retired school teacher. She was inspired to write her novels by reading picture books to her second grade students.

The story centered on a couple of middle schoolers Joey, high function on the Asperger/Autism spectrum and Elbie, who has ADHD, and a haunted library. Their class visits a library when a ghost makes itself known by creating havoc. It was no big deal apparently to Joey who lives in a haunted house with family. I have to say the one thing that stood out in this story, which is the second installment in Corbitt's Ghoster series. is that the two central characters are what some people would classify as "challenged". I think their uniqueness is what makes them the perfect people to solve the mystery of why this library's ghost is angry and hasn't moved on from the earthly plane. Enter Joey's sister Kerry and her friend Kerry. The story moves along at a moderate pace and the character development is stellar. I didn't read the first installment but I don't feel that I missed out on much. The author did a great job of creating an engaging, humorous and fun mystery that also shows how someone who has challenges like Joey and Elbie navigates their way through what the world throws at them. I think this is a fantastic book for young readers.

Ghosters 2, Revenge of the Library Ghost has ghosty types popping out of the woodwork at every turn, in this imaginative and original mystery novel for young adults. Joey and his friend Elbie make a great sleuthing team as they use their powers of deduction and original spy tricks to solve the mystery of the library ghost who is seeking revenge for a crime committed while she was alive. With Joey’s older sister and her friend along for the ride, the two sleuths become the accidental heroes of the story, which is as much about solving a crime, as the unlikely friendship between the two. Elbie is an energetic prankster with ADHD, and Joey, who has Asperger’s, is sensitive to sound, smell and touch. The characters are endearing and memorable and remind us all that it is okay to have a few quirks. In fact these sensitivities become their super powers. It makes the world more interesting and this book is certainly that. Their friendship and the compassion and humor with which it is written, gives this tale a heartwarming core, all the while taking us on a fast-paced adventure. Revenge of the Library Ghost is an absolute page-turner. A great read for young adults who love a mystery with a twist.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! You can't help but love the friendship between Joey and Elbie. They don't let Joey's Asperger's get in the way of them having fun or getting into a bit of mischief while solving the mystery of their school library and principal. The comfort level they have around the ghosts is admirable as well. I know for myself  I wouldn't have been that great at handling the special ability to see and communicate with ghosts at their age. This story also involved my love of books and the library. It was refreshing to see Diana incorporate the importance of libraries, books, and reading into her story while keeping it light and fun. You also learn about acceptance and treating people with respect even if they do have a developmental disorder or any other disability for that matter. Elbie's family living above the mortuary took me back to Vada in My Girl. In fact the friendship between Joey and Elbie reminded me quite a bit of the friendship between Vada and Thomas J.

This book follows the story of the four kids Joey, Elbie, Theresa and Kerry. All of them except for Kerry can see and talk to a ghost 👻.. Now how cool is that! It follows a wonderful adventure of how these kids help a ghost expose its truth. It’s filled with relatable “Creep and Freak” scenes and describes all the fun/mischief kids play.

This book definitely has a very attractive vibe, also has a beautiful and easy narration. This book will be a kids favourite read for sure!

I’d recommend this book to all the kids and also to people who are planning to start reading and don’t know what to pick. This book series will boost your interest in reading.

There are currently 3 books in this series and there is no particular order to start on. I picked this up because the title had “Library” in it and that’s it, here I am happy to read it!

⭐️: 5/5 (Download the books from the link in the bio of @ghosterswriter on Instagram, for yourself and you kid)

This was an ebook kindly offered to me by the author.
When I saw the titles on offer I had to pick this one, I mean, a book set in a library is always going to be  my choice.
Not usually a genre I would pick, it is about two sixth grade students who run into some ghosts at the school library. Both Elbie and Joey are comfortable around death and ghosts, Elbie lives above a mortuary. It is a mystery rather than a horror which kept me interested. I hadn't read the first one which wasn't a problem and didn't affect the way I understood the characters or the story.
One thing I particularly appreciated about this story was the inclusion of Joey's Aspergers. I think it is really important, especially given the audience demographic, for kids with aspergers to see themselves in a book but also for others to understand the challenges of this syndrome.
Overall, a good read and I will be recommending to my younger nieces, nephews and students!

The ebook was emailed to me in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in a fun middle grade series about ghosts. The first book was from Theresa’s point of view so I was surprised to find out the sequel is narrated by Joey, her brother. It’s been a year since the ending of book 1 and Joey has a friend who can also see ghosts because he lives above his parent’s mortuary, he’s called Elbie. Together in school they notice suspicious behavior in the Library that might be a ghost. They want to help settle the ghost down before they close the library for good, so with the help of Theresa and Kerry, they all do their best to figure out why the ghost is mad and try to fix it.

Joey has Asperger, I loved the representation in the first book so it was even more interesting to read about the way he perceives things and expressions that people take for granted. It’s highly entertaining, fun and just the tiniest and perfect bit creepy. I’m really excited for the next one!

This book is focused more on Joey and Elbie, his best friend. From the first book, we know that Joey is able to see paranormal activities, a.k.a ghosts. ⁣

What’s more interesting is that his best friend and family owns a business, the funeral services. With a house full of people who just passed, and those who have passed but refused to leave, the boys meet and befriended them. ⁣

They help a ghost in their school library regain justice for being accused of stealing, in her past life with some help from their ghostly friends. ⁣

Unlike the first book, I feel like this book has a lighter note in terms of paranormal scares. Though the target audience is more towards the middle graders, I believe any age readers will still enjoy this. ⁣

I’m eager to find out what’s in store in the third instalment!

This book is the sequel to Ghosters. The first book was told from the perspective of Theresa and this book was told from the perspective of her younger brother, Joey. This book was unique because Joey has Aspergers and struggles with reading facial cues and takes things literally. It was really interesting getting to view things from his perspective!!

The first book focused on a ghost in Theresa and Joey’s home. This book was about a ghost in the library at Joey’s school. Joey, his friend Elbie, Theresa, and Kerry have to figure out why who is haunting the school library and why.

Thank you to the author for my eCopy to review! I also love that cover is filled with clues for the ghost mystery!

I love a good spooky middle-grade book, and this was just that. This book follows an autistic main character named Joey with his best friend Elbie as they try to solve a paranormal mystery involving a ghost in their school library. I thought the story was really well done and I was genuinely interested in solving the mystery. I also loved the main character Joey, who I found to be such a sweetie. I’m rating this 4 stars because the copy I got contained a few mistakes in spelling and punctuation. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any fans of spooky middle-grade books.

Elbie and Joey were so fun to read about. Joning joining them is Joey's sister Theresa and her friend Larry. They all work together to figure out whats going on in the library and why a ghost would be there and what it wants.

I loved that Elbie lives in a mortuary with his family and he and Joey get to see ghosts a lot. Over all we enjoyed the story as well as the fun things the characters got up to solve the problem of the ghost. I loved the inclusion of the characters. Having a book with an main character with Asperger's is wonderful.

When friends Joey and Elbie uncover a secret from the past, one they learned from a ghost, they are headed into a ghostly mystery. The author writes this young adult mystery with a touch of humor that I think all ages will like. Thee fact that both Elbie and Joey have a connection to ghosts only makes this mystery even more fun. The book is well written, making it a quick read that holds the readers attention. well done.

I’m still a fan of the author but not of this book. The writing was messed up maybe a glitch in the computer and chapters would suddenly end in the middle of a sentence. And mini chapters like chapters 1-7 were all in chapter one. I did however like how it was from Joey’s prospective but idk I just didn’t get the whole ghost vibe like in the first book.

I just finished reading this book and wow, it was such an awesome read! I was immediately captivated by this quirky and marvelous story. Within the first few pages I know this was going to be a five star read, and the rest of the book did not disappoint! Joey and his best friend Elbie are experiencing mysterious phenomenons in their school library--and its not long before the entire library is shut down for "maintenance". The two friends have no choice but to investigate, (as the ghost who is behind the library haunting is holding "The Ultimate Bugopedia" hostage)! With the help of Joey's older sister Theresa and her best-friend Kerry, they are able to uncover the motive behind the library's paranormal activity! This is an incredibly well written story of friendship, justice, and ghosts! I cannot wait to read Diana Corbitt's other "Ghoster" books! If you're looking for a funny, heartwarming adventure story--I highly recommend "Ghosters 2: Revenge of the Library Ghost"!

I’m really enjoying the Ghosters series by @ghosterswriter Diana Corbitt and I’m hoping to one day read all of them. I love the spookiness! I love the mystery! I really like the characters and their development. I didn’t like how Elbie kept saying “Dawg” so much especially as a POC. It’s stereotypical. 4 stars.

A year after Theresa Martinez and her British friend, Kerry, won the Ghosters contest, her younger brother Joey finds himself in the middle of a new supernatural mystery.

Strange things are happening at his school library, cold blasts of air, flickering lights, and books flying off the shelves. Joey, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, is curious rather than frightened. His best friend Elbie, who lives above his family's funeral home, is no stranger to ghosts. At first, the boys think the ghost is just playing tricks, but when books start landing at their feet with titles like Stolen Treasure and Hostage, they realize the spirit is trying to communicate. Knowing they’ll need all the help they can get, Joey calls in his sister Theresa and her friend Kerry, both experienced ghost-hunters.

As the team investigates, they dig deeper into the library’s past, uncovering hidden secrets that tie back to a long-forgotten tragedy. But solving the mystery is not as easy as it seems. Each clue leads to new questions, and not all the spirits they encounter are friendly. With their nerves tested, the Ghosters must work together to help the restless ghost find peace.
