MONSTER told the harrowing story of Richard, Mary and their son Andrew. Translated into two additional languages (including a print-run of 40,000 paperback copies in Japan), MONSTER also became a feature length film - directed by one of the original authors, Matt Shaw.
Now, for the first time ever, we get a look at to what turned Richard into a raging psychopath and Mary into his puppet. We get to witness the birth of a MONSTER .
MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.
Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.
Favourite books "Roald Dahl's Collection of Short Stories" Tim Burton's Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy Anything, really, written by himself. Because he is that good.
Meh. I really like Matt Shaw and have read most of his books including Monster. I just felt like this one was rushed and was maybe not quite the back story that his readers were hoping for. I was expecting more of Richards true origin, maybe early childhood flashbacks, more of what caused the flaw in his mental state, so to speak. However, it was a fun read, creepy beginning to what follows, but perhaps the prequel needs a prequel ? Lol.
5 stars for another dark & disturbingly short story. Abuse & a twisted mind all rolled into 1 psychotic character, that the reader will come to know as Richard. Glad that a chance was given to read the prequel before reading Monster. A few queasy stomach moments that heightens the gore factor.
You will love this book! All the creepy statist gore you can handle or choke down..lol haha wink wink! Don’t won’t to tell to much! I loved it! Wish it was longer!
I liked the book, but wished it had gone a little further with the story of how it all came to be. It was a little short on body including dead ones, and feel mat just wanted to get this one over with.
Never hated a character more than I hate the main character Richard in this book. He is 1 million percent a monster Great story telling of Matt Shaw once again
