During Al Maktoum's rule of Dubai, he invested billions in the tourism industry and business, to limit the country's independence on oil intrests.
Al Maktoum is also known as a poet, he started to send his poems anonymously to UAE newspapers.

Inspiring! How refreshing to read a book authored by a politician who upholds the values of happiness and positivity. Sheikh Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, even goes as far as to claim that "the job of government is to achieve happiness." WOW! In short, this book is, as the title aptly suggests, a collection of the philosophical takes on happiness and positivity viewed within various contexts. A gentle and empowering read for the believer of an enlightened society, definitely not for the committed cynic.

I have worked in a government organization for over 40 years and have read a lot of propaganda, so I did not expect to like this book by the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and the ruler of Dubai, but when I started reading it, I loved it. He expounds on what makes a truly good leader and how positivity and happiness drive innovation and productivity. How the founders of the UAE could build a modern country out of a group of tribes in the desert. He emphasizes how making people happy and giving the young opportunities can ensure they are not radicalized. I think every leader and aspiring leader should read this book.
"The role of government is to create the environment through which people can achieve their dreams and ambitions and do it for themselves. Our part is to create this environment and not to control it." And this from a former chief of police!

Love the grandiose vibes of UAE leaders' " Rashid Al- Maktoom and his heir son "Mohammad Al maktoom". I'm impressed with their determination, diligence, patience , positivity, perseverance & their highly insistence to manifest their goals & ambitions, achieving their vision & objective as well as organizing plans & projects in a powerful way. Although they went through tremendous hardships and tough obstacles due to their barren land nature that has no attractive living & investments employment, they contribute to have success & happiness as individuals, nation and people. Consequently, UAE leaders' soaring ambitions had been turned into mighty reality via unfaltering dedication & unwavering commitment👌. To me , this obviously was a shiny reflection of their sharp vision whose insights far surpassed their eyesight in which prove their powerful & international status and reputation worldwide 😍🇦🇪❤️.

Many people believe that Sheikh Mohammad and Dubai got everything easily on a golden platter however that isn't the issue people need to be looking at. The main issue is how they created a positive culture first in the public sector and second in the private sector. The issue is how they've defined success and showed people to always aim higher and of course this can't be done with a mindset filled with positivity.

كتاب سيدي صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم هو خلاصة تجاربه و استثماره لوقته فيما يعم النفع بشعبه. كتاب يبعث في النفس الهمة و يشبعها بالنشاط و يبعث فيها الإلهام بأن لا وجود للمستحيل. تجربة رائدة خاضتها دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في عهد سموه في مجالات متعددة كالسعادة و التخطيط لمستقبل يحفل بأبنائه.

This was a different reading from what I'm used to. First of all, it is a short read and filled with photographs. You can easily read it in a couple of hours. Second, I choose an author that I wouldn't have chosen if I hadn't been in Dubai and felt curious about him and his vision.
Sheikh Mohammed is present everywhere in Dubai and as you dive into the history of this country and how they managed to raise one of the most modern nations in the world in less than 50 years, then you become curious about the Sheikh. The fact that he has authored many books leads you to realize that there is more than money and politics behind this. There is a man with a vision and smart enough to plaster it in books.
This book focuses on happiness and positivity. The theme is recurrent and we can read many references along the way to these two topics. Both are applied to politics, family, and in every aspect of building and growing Dubai. I'm not a person interested in politics but I liked the approach given in this book. Rather than rhetoric about political issues, we see a different approach that doesn't only apply to a country's policy but to our companies and personal lives. I totally enjoyed learning about the vision of previous Sheikhs and the foundations that allowed Dubai to become what is now. Without the spirit of positivity, the outcome would have been different for sure.
I totally recommend this book to anybody who wants to learn about the building of Dubai and the UAE, but also to learn how these two basic concepts can make a difference in a world that is plagued with corruption, tyranny, intolerance, and bureaucracy. If you are a politician or work in government, then this is a total must even if the Arab culture is totally foreign to you.

Vengo llegando de un viaje hermoso donde pudimos visitar Dubai, impactada con la cultura, lo grandioso y majestuoso de esa ciudad, fue una sorpresa grata encontrarme con éste libro y conocer la historia y la importancia de el jeque Mohammed en ese lugar, un visión y una disciplina por demás envidiable, un buen libro por el contenido y además un material y unos colores de las fotos de primera calidad.
No debo tardar en leer Mi historia de el mismo, también muy recomendado por la gente de la ciudad.
Es bonito aprender de otras culturas y quedarte con lo mejor de ellas.
