The Message

Rate this book
While traveling in deep space, the Earth ship Anu receives a message of invitation written in a number of Earth languages. The message reads only, “Come and learn about us.” Intrigued by the impossibility of such a message, the captain of the research vessel alters course to find where the signal originated. On a frozen planet devoid of life, Captain Thomas Miller meets the messenger and learns the tragic circumstances of the planet’s demise. What is more, he learns of an alien civilization’s strange association with the people of Earth.
The decision to journey to the alien world has serious repercussions for the Captain and the crew of the Anu. From data provided by the messenger, one of Earth’s scientists learns of the existence of an Einstein-Rosen Bridge, a pathway to other civilizations hidden in a vast nebula beyond the galaxy. When two Earth ships venture through, the results are disastrous. Acting on the assumption that some on those ships may be alive, Miller follows them in to attempt a rescue. What follows is a violent clash of civilizations, a battle fought in alien space, in which Miller’s small ship is hunted by vessels carrying a terrifying weapon.
The Einstein-Rosen Bridge brings still another enemy close to Earth. This enemy brings new and terrifying ideas that would forever change life on Earth. On the defensive from the beginning, Miller realizes that weapons are useless against compelling ideas. His curiosity leads him to mount an expedition to the home world of the Lifani, a race of people that originated far out in deep space, farther than any Earth ship has ever traveled before. Tracing the two hundred year journey of the Lifani back in time tests the courage and intellect of Miller and his crew.
