Moondust

I feel like this was a good plot but very slow paced and took a long time for me to get into. DNF

oh mein gott war das Ende deprimierend 😱 und was wollte mir der Epilog sagen? Das Ende kam einfach etwas schnell und dadurch doch zu kurz.

Moondust is a ya science fiction novel set on the moon, and since I hadn't ever heard of it when I found it in the library I decided to give it a go. The synopsis on the back sounded fine and entertaining and quite sure, it was an entertaining read. Here we go.
The whole book felt like something I've read before. Sure, we had new characters and a new world building and an exciting plot twist in the end, but it's just your average, typical ya novel in the end.
Average protagonist who lost someone in the past? ✔
Protagonist finds out that not everything in her world is as it seems? ✔
Girl has one best friend and then meets a mysterious, seemingly dangerous stranger? ✔
Which, you knew it, leads to a love triangle? ✔ (ok I have to say the love triangle wasn't a big part of the book, but it was still there.)
So let's talk about the characters. Aggie, or Agatha, is the main character in this book, and I'm still not sure how I feel about her. On one hand, I felt super sorry for her and she was even kinda relatable: She's lost a family member when she was little due to a catastrophe and is still trying to cope with it; also, she's kind of an introvert with only one good friend and being an introvert myself, I could relate to this.
But on the other hand she was kinda annoying. In one second she's whiny and goes on about how she doesn't feel up to the task given, and in the next second she agrees and suddenly turns into a seemingly badass protagonist who is brave and totally in control. Hello?!? That wasn't exactly believable. Also, for my taste Aggie doesn't have a good common sense of who to trust. Example: She has just met a guy (who is a prisoner btw) and she knews she shouldn't talk to him, and yet she listens to him and then can't stop thinking about what he said. I'm sorry, but I didn't think she was a good MC at least 50 % of the time.
The other characters felt pretty stereotypical. We have Seb, Aggies long-term friend who I'm pretty sure she has a crush on but doesn't know it.
Then there's Danny, a prisoner on the moon she meets by accident and who has a mysterious, apparently terroristic past and yet she feels drawn to him.
And there's Mir, a kind of perfect but annoying girl whose only purpose is to annoy Aggie and make her jealous because she's so perfect and Aggie...well, is not.
(Ok maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but if you've read a certain amount of ya novels you can't help but notice the similarities.)
Let's move on to the plot! It wasn't boring, and the book read really fast, that's a plus! The world maybe could've been a bit more developed, but considering Moondust is a rather short novel it was ok. There was enough background information to at least build a world. I guess I don't have much to say about the plot, I don't wanna spoil it. Let's just say the ending was pretty exciting and I totally didn't expect the twist. Aggie discovered some things about her past in the final chapters and I think that was really well done. Also, for once the AI in this story, Celeste, isn't trying to murder anyone as we know it from those things! Celeste really added a nice touch. :)
But the ending also felt a bit rushed. One or two more chapters wouldn't have done any damage. The epilogue felt pretty rushed too, but I liked the little hint in the end. I'm not gonna say more... but I think this is a standalone (for now at least haha) and the ending was kinda open, but then again it wasn't. I liked it :)
All in all I have to say I wasn't the biggest fan of the book and I probably wouldn't recommend it, but not because it was bad, only because there are much better books out there. Moondust was a solid 3 star filler book for me that kept me entertained but won't stick with me for long.

I picked this up from the library because I love sci-fi and the premise sounded really interesting. Just as mankind exhausts fossil fuels a new energy source, lumite, is discovered on the moon so a mining operation is set up. Our main character, Aggy, is living on the lunar base, working as a domestic technician and hiding her past, where she is one of the only survivors of an early lumite disaster.
I liked the idea behind this but the execution was a little patchy. The characters aren't given much development and the relationships, including those with love interests are entirely unconvincing. The world building also had a lot of potential, but the exposition was either omitted or inserted clunkily. The ending is rushed and leaves lots of loose ends, potentially aiming to set up a sequel.
If you like sci-fi, give this a go, but it's not a new favourite for me.

Just what I needed after a series of quite heavy historical novels. This is an easy read with an exciting (albeit quite superficial and scientifically dubious) twisting story and a fun setting on the moon. I read it very quickly and enjoyed escaping to another world each time I dipped in. Mostly dystopia, a touch of romance, and a bit of adventure.

I picked this up because I like sci fi and I thought the concept sounded interesting, but I was a little worried from the blurb that it would be quite romance-y. Luckily it’s really not! There’s definitely moments and the characters would probably get there given time, but instead the plot concentrated on the conspiracy and action side, which is fab.
I’d have like to have seen more than just the trauma in Aggie - I think she could have done more. But I loved Seb and Danny.
I also felt that the story wasn’t too complex - for a conspiracy, it was a little straight forward.
That said, I did enjoy it overall, and it’s a quick fun read.

Das Buch ist eigentlich nur 217 Seiten lang also wirklich kurz.
Man muss durch die ersten paar Kapitel kommen, bevor es ab Kapitel 6 mit der Spannung und den Charaktern nach oben geht. Auch schien der Anfang der Story sehr schwach aufgesetzt. Ich kann es nicht genau auf einen Grund festlegen aber es wurde zu wenig von der Zeit, der Erde und der Vergangenheit der Charakter( die Uni Zeit wurde mehrfach erwähnt und es wurde so neben bei erwähnt dass es die Südamerikanischen Staaten gibt und ähnliche Länderverbünde in der United Earth, aber die Story wurde kaum aufgesetzt) erklärt.
Der romantische Aspekt der Story steht definitiv nicht im Vordergrund und dient eigentlich nur dazu um einen Charakter einzuführen der am Ende zur Spannung beiträgt und etwas Emotion in die Geschichte bringt. Auch scheint das einzige was die beiden zueinander bringt, zu sein, dass sie sich in die Augen geschaut haben und die weibliche MC so eine introvertierte Person ist, dass sie vorher keinen anderen angeschaut hat. Nichts desto trotz war es süß, machte die fmc interessanter und verlegte den Fokus von ihren Angstzuständen wegen der Adrianne-Katastrophe auf das zu behandelnde Problem.
In einer anderen Rezension habe ich etwas von einem Love Triangle gelesen, das hier aber wirklich nicht existiert.
Seb ist ihr bester Freund (überraschenderweise nicht der typische homosexuelle männliche beste Freund, der nur da ist um schwul zu sein) und nicht an ihr interessiert.
Alles in allem eine kurze süße und zu Ende hin spannende SciFi-Story über den Mond und Energieknappheit.

WARUM WOLLTE ICH ES LESEN? Das Cover sieht so wunderschön aus und der Klappentext klang so toll! Eine Kolonie auf dem Mond? Geheime Machenschaften? Genial! Ich war super gespannt und freute mich auf den Sci-Fi-Roman.
HAT ES MEINE ERWARTUNGEN ERFÜLLT? Der Roman gehört in die Sparte: Erwartungen leider nicht erfüllt. Ich hätte den Roman unglaublich gerne gemocht und wollte es auch wirklich. Funktioniert hat das leider nicht.
WAS HAT MIR GUT GEFALLEN? Das Setting und die Idee. Ich finde diese Mond-Kolonien-Sache unglaublich spannend und war im Vorfeld sehr gespannt, was da auf uns zukommt. Die Idee einer Verschwörung klingt zwar auf den ersten Blick sehr banal, ich war jedoch auch sehr gespannt auf die Umsetzung.
WAS HAT MICH GESTÖRT? Der Rest. Die Umsetzung der Idee allem voran. Das Buh hat nur knapp 300 Seiten und man merkt, dass es gerne ein paar Seiten mehr gebraucht hätte. Die Handlung blieb oberflächlich und auch das Ende kam für mich sehr plötzlich und unplausibel. Auch mit den Charakteren konnte ich mich nicht wirklich abfinden. Sie blieben blass und unsympathisch und so stellte sich beim Lesen kein wichtiger Sog ein.
FAZIT. Leider blieb Moondust eine Enttäuschung. Ich ging zwar ohne hohe Erwartungen ans Lesen heran, wurde jedoch von der Geschichte, auf die ich mich sehr gefreut hatte, bitter enttäuscht. Es fehlte an Spannung, Tiefe und liebenswerten Charakteren. | ★★☆☆☆

When Earth has used up all it's energy and wars are waging, Lunar Inc find's a new resource in Lumite, an energy found deep inside the moon. Lumite has saved the Earth population - but for how long? And at what cost?
This sci-fi thriller is a good one for any space fans. It highlights what could happen when we run out of fuels on Earth and the importance of questioning those in charge. I've seen a lot of corrupt government books recently (guessing it's a backlash from 2016) and Moondust reminds us that what we see on the media is not necessarily the whole truth, just what they want us to know.
It won't make it onto my favourites list as the story was quite predictable and I didn't really become engrossed so I skimmed quite a bit. Still makes for a good read but wouldn't prioritise this if it's on your TBR shelf.

Aufgrund des Themas und des Klappentextes ist wollte ich Moondust unbedingt lesen. Auch das Cover fällt einem, mit seinen markanten Farben, gleich ins Auge. Ich habe schon so lange keine Dystopie mehr gelesen und eine Geschichte über das zukünftige Leben auf dem Mond hat mich neugierig gemacht.
Die 17-jährige Aggie lebt ein, in ihren Augen, langweiliges Leben. Sie geht ihrer Arbeit nach, hat eine Handvoll enge Freunde und versucht ansonsten unsichtbar zu bleiben. Normal wäre es, wenn sie nicht auf dem Mond leben würde. Dort arbeitet sie für das Unternehmen Lunar Inc., das den Rohstoff Lumite auf dem Mond abbaut um damit die Erde mit Energie und Licht zu versorgen. Ohne diesen Rohstoff würde die Erde ohne Hoffnung im Krieg versinken. Aggie steht voll hinter Lunar Inc. und dem Lumite und lässt sich dazu überreden Botschafterin für Lunar Inc. zu werden. Doch dann begegnet Sie zufällig dem Häftling Danny, der Mitglied einer Rebellengruppe ist, und der ihr Bild über den Mond und die Welt gewaltig ins Schwanken bringt.

Was mir gleich aufgefallen ist, ist, dass das Buch sehr dünn ist. Für eine ausgereifte Dystopie kam mir die Seitenanzahl doch etwas zu wenig vor und nachdem ich angefangen habe zu Lesen, hat sich diese Befürchtung auch bewahrheitet.
Der Schreibstil von Gemma Fowler war zu Beginn etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig und ich bin leider auch das gesamte Buch über nicht richtig damit warm geworden. Die Welt, in der Aggie lebt und arbeitet ist sehr komplex. Doch die nötige Tiefe bei der Beschreibung dieser Welt hat mir gefehlt. Die Umgebung und Handlungen werden nur wage beschrieben und ich konnte mir viele Sachen nicht gut vorstellen. Doch gerade diese Erläuterungen hätte ich mir bei so einem Thema gewünscht. Denn es ist gerade interessant, wie genau die Raumstation oder Dinge, die es erst in dieser Zukunft gibt, aussehen.
Auch mit unserer Protagonistin Aggie bin ich nicht sonderlich warm geworden. Ihr Charakter hat einen ziemlich komplexen Hintergrund und eine schwierige Vergangenheit. Aggie möchte für etwas einstehen und doch habe ich immer wieder den nötigen Biss und eine gewisse Durchsetzungskraft bei ihr vermisst. Das hat sie, gerade mit dem, was ihr passiert ist, in meinen Augen nicht glaubwürdig erscheinen lassen. Die Nebencharaktere haben alle eine eigene herausgearbeitete Persönlichkeit. Dies kann ich besonders auf Danny und Seb, einen von Aggies wenigen Freunden, beziehen. Doch auch bei ihnen fehlt mir der nötige Tiefgang. Es fügen sich zwar alle gut in die Handlung ein und dennoch fehlt jedem Charakter dieser letzte Hauch, der ihn wirklich lebendig werden lässt. Ich hätte da ein bisschen mehr erwartet.
Und auch, wenn mir Schreibstil und die Personen nicht so zugesagt haben, regt das Buch doch zum Nachdenken an. Gemma Fowler hat hier eine Zukunft erschaffen, wie sie tatsächlich einmal eintreten könnte. Durch die Ressourcenknappheit auf der Erde ist der Mensch gezwungen andere Energiequellen zu suchen um weiterhin das komfortable Leben zu führen, das alle kennen.
Die Brücke, die man zu den aktuellen Themen Ressourcenverschwendung, Umweltschutz und dergleichen schlagen kann, gefällt man sehr gut. Als Leser wird einem noch einmal vor Augen geführt, dass der Mensch sorgsam mit dem umgehen sollte, was er hat und, dass nicht so weiter gemacht werden kann, wie bisher.
Fazit:
Ein rasantes Sci-Fi Abenteuer, dessen Potenzial meiner Meinung nach nicht ausgeschöpft wurde. Auch, wenn ich viele Kritikpunkte habe, ist es dennoch etwas für Fans dieses Genres. Ich kann in diesem Fall leider nur 2 Schmetterlinge vergeben.

Und auch, wenn mir Schreibstil und die Personen nicht so zugesagt haben, regt das Buch doch zum Nachdenken an. Gemma Fowler hat hier eine Zukunft erschaffen, wie sie tatsächlich einmal eintreten könnte. Durch die Ressourcenknappheit auf der Erde ist der Mensch gezwungen andere Energiequellen zu suchen um weiterhin das komfortable Leben zu führen, das alle kennen.
Die Brücke, die man zu den aktuellen Themen Ressourcenverschwendung, Umweltschutz und dergleichen schlagen kann, gefällt man sehr gut. Als Leser wird einem noch einmal vor Augen geführt, dass der Mensch sorgsam mit dem umgehen sollte, was er hat und, dass nicht so weiter gemacht werden kann, wie bisher.
Fazit:
Ein rasantes Sci-Fi Abenteuer, dessen Potenzial meiner Meinung nach nicht ausgeschöpft wurde. Auch, wenn ich viele Kritikpunkte habe, ist es dennoch etwas für Fans dieses Genres. Ich kann in diesem Fall leider nur 2 Schmetterlinge vergeben.

Ich habe dieses Buch vom Verlag als Rezensionsexemplar erhalten. Nochmals vielen Dank dafür!
Dieses Buch war auf meiner Neuerscheinungsliste eins meiner absoluten Must Reads. Ich habe mir viel von der Geschichte erhofft, bin aber leider ziemlich enttäuscht worden.
Aggie ist 17 Jahre alt, lebt und arbeitet auf einer Mondstation und versucht dort ein einfaches Leben zu führen und nicht aufzufallen. Dies hat auch einen Grund, den möchte ich euch aber nicht verraten. Auf besagter Mondstation, welche zum Unternehmen Lunar Inc. gehört, wird sogenanntes Lumite gewonnen, um die Menschheit mit Energie zu versorgen. Aber es ist alles anders, als es scheint und als Aggie auf Danny trifft, welcher ein Gefangener ist, erfährt sie von Dingen, die niemand auch nur erahnen konnte und muss sich entscheiden, auf welcher Seite sie letztendlich stehen will.
Ehrlich gesagt habe ich mich mit dieser Inhaltsbeschreibung sehr schwer getan, denn auch jetzt nach Beenden des Buches, ist mir noch immer nicht so ganz klar, was eigentlich der Sinn dieses Buches war. Was genau wollte die Autorin einem vermitteln, was für eine Story wollte sie uns erzählen?
Meiner Meinung nach gab es bei dieser Geschichte viel verschenktes Potential, was einfach nicht genutzt worden ist.
Das Buch ist in der Er/Sie-Sichtweise geschrieben worden, was einer der Gründe war, weshalb ich mit Aggie und auch den anderen Charakteren überhaupt nicht warm geworden bin, mir war schlichtweg egal, was mit ihnen geschieht, ich habe keine Beziehung aufbauen können. Wir haben auch viel zu wenig über die einzelnen Charaktere erfahren, um uns überhaupt ein richtiges Bild von ihnen machen zu können. Das, was sich zwischen Aggie und Danny aufgebaut hat, war für mich absolut nicht greifbar, denn sie haben sich kaum gekannt, wenige Male überhaupt miteinander gesprochen und sich trotzdem sofort gegenseitig blind vertraut. Für mich total unrealistisch und auch sonst ist keinerlei Funken zu mir übergesprungen.
Neben Aggie und Danny gibt es noch Sebastian – kurz Seb, welcher Aggies bester Freund auf der Mondstation ist. Auch sein Charakter war für mich zu flach, wenn auch ich ihn lieber mochte als Aggie oder Danny. Welcher „Charakter“ mir mit Abstand am liebsten war, ist eigentlich nicht mal ein Mensch, sondern ein Computer, der über die Menschen auf Lunar Inc. wacht und ständig „da“ ist. Dieses Computersystem reagiert auf den Namen Celeste und hatte nach einiger Zeit etwas richtig menschliches für mich.
Fazit: Ich schätze ihr merkt es schon: ich habe ziemlich vieles an diesem Buch zu kritisieren. Es ist auch nicht wirklich besonders viel passiert und dafür, dass das Buch nur 300 Seiten hat, gab es immer noch zu viel Story um nichts. Ich kann es leider nicht anders sagen. Ich habe noch immer den Sinn der Geschichte nicht gefunden und bin dementsprechend sehr enttäuscht, da ich mir viel mehr von dem Buch erhofft habe. Mit dem Ende bin ich auch nicht wirklich einverstanden, aber ich habe auf Goodreads gelesen, dass die Autorin geschrieben hat, dass es weitere Bücher geben wird, weshalb ich es dann so hinnehmen kann, wie die Geschichte zu Ende geht, auch wenn ich mir relativ sicher bin, dass ich die Reihe nicht weiter verfolgen werde. Das Beste für mich war also leider einfach nur das sehr hübsch anzusehende Cover, wofür ich dem Verlag ein Kompliment aussprechen muss.

Meine Meinung:
Der Schreibstil von Gemma Fowler war für mich auf den ersten 50-70 Seiten echt gewöhnungsbedürftig, denn irgendwie fand ich keinen Zugang zu diesem und das hat mich extrem aufgeregt und ich habe mich durch die ersten Seiten gebissen. Was danach kam war einfach richtig richtig gut. Ich fand mich nun mit dem Stil zurecht, habe den Zugang gefunden und dann wurde er echt packend, flüssig und locker. Mit der Spannung verhielt es sich für mich so, dass diese stets schwankte und immer auf und ab ging. Mal war diese da, dann fehlte sie wieder und so war ich auch nur Seitenweise an das Buch gefesselt anstatt dauerhaft. Trotz den Schwächen ist der Stil der Autorin locker, leicht und flüssig.
Die Protagonistin Aggie ist mit ihren 17 Jahren echt mehr als reif gewesen, so erwachsen. An sich ja nichts schlimmes und es hat auch überhaupt nicht gestört, jedoch empfand ich dies eher als gestellt und so nahm es der Protagonistin auch wieder den Wind aus den segeln und sie konnte sich nicht richtig entwickeln im laufe der Geschichte. Die Nebenfiguren waren in dieser Hinsicht jedoch ganz anders, sie waren so schön gezeichnet und hatten eine steigende Entwicklung, was ich halt bei der Prota echt vermisst habe.
Nun komme ich zur Story im allegmeinen und hier muss ich ehrlich sagen: Sie hatte großes Potential in meinen Augen und dieses wurde nicht ganz genutzt. An sich ist es eine leicht zu verstehende Geschichte, daran haperte es auch nicht, nur war es für mich so, dass ich keinen gleichmäßigen Rhythmus in dieser gefunden habe. Die Story war nachvollziehbar, sie war ganz okay gestaltet aber hier hätte die Autorin noch so viel mehr rausholen können, denn das Potential war definitiv vorhanden und das fand ich so schade, denn die Ansätze der Story haben mich vollkommen überzeugt und die Storyline ebenfalls, nur war dies halt nicht dauerhaft so.
An der Handlung habe ich so an sich nun wenig auszusetzen, denn dies war der einzige Punkt wo ich mir keine Gedanken mehr gemacht habe beim lesen, denn die Handlung war leicht nachvollziehbar, sie war stellenweise logisch und auch locker. Gerade weil diese Handlung einfach besser überzeugen konnte, hätte ich von der Story einfach mehr erwartet, größeres. Die Handlungsstränge waren nun nichts Besonderes und fügten sich halt einfach die Handlung ein, nicht mehr und nicht weniger, leider.
Mein Fazit:
Am Ende muss ich sagen, dass Moondust nicht das war was ich mir vom Klappentext erhofft hatte. Das einzig positive an diesem ganzen Buch sind die Nebenfiguren und Handlung, welche nach wie vor nachvollziebar war. Für mich ist Moondust ein nettes Buch für zwischendurch. Wer sich hier so viel erhofft, der wird vergeblich danach suchen, denke ich. Mehr kann ich als Fazit auch nicht schreiben, weil ich echt enttuscht wurde.

To be completely honest, I was very tempted to give this two stars, but the unique storyline and Celeste boosted it to three. I wouldn't say this book was terrible, it wasn't bad, and nothing stood out enough for me to think it was great. The overall concept was very interesting and I did like the slang they used like "cosmic" and "fragging", but sometimes it was really confusing. Anyways, let's go in depth as to why I thought this book was average:
The main character, Aggie, made me want to throw the book against a wall:
Now, in the beginning, Aggie was a character that I could sympathise with. She had lost her father, had lived through a horrific incident and even had to be a poster girl for a company immediately after. So obviously I felt sorry for her. Then, she decides to be a complete ditz and jeopardise her, and her potential love interest's life JUST so she can "save" her friend. For those who haven't read this novel, you may be thinking; "Well that's completely normal, of course you're going to want to save your friend! She's not an animal!!" And yes, she wouldn't be if it were as simple as that. HOWEVER! Her friend (Seb), was completely safe and he would have flown under the radar if she didn't stop and heroically take him away and "save the day". So basically, don't save your friend if they don't need saving.
I know that probably made me sound really petty, but something that really made me feel better after all that was Celeste. Celeste was the computer program in charge of the whole station and was filled with hilarious moments. Not only was she funny though, but she also picked Aggie's stupid ass off of the ground and saved them all from failing miserably. Basically she's the hero of the whole novel.
Here are a few of my favourite Celeste moments just to lighten the mood and end on a high:
'Hey Agatha, You do not have authorisation for this sector.'
'If I have to be the fragging Angel of Adrianne, Celeste, then I can access everywhere. It's compensation.'
'I'm sorry Agatha, but I don't understand the question.'
'Course you don't.'
'You don't have authorisation for this-'
'Shut up, Celeste.'
There was a long pause.
'OK Agatha.'
Then there was this gem:
'Your heart rate is increasing, Sebastian, how about we try some calming stretches?'
'Are you kidding me?'
'Definitely not. The mission would be severely compromised if you had a heart episode.'
Overall I probably wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, unless I knew they were big space or sci-fi fans. In saying that though, I don't mean this to be harsh, it's just my personal opinion (:

Zuerst einmal finde ich das Cover etwas irreführend. Man erwartet eine moderne Großstadt auf dem Mond, aber eher das Gegenteil ist der Fall. Staubig und grau, in Zelten beziehungsweise in Forschungsstationen spielt die Geschichte. Dennoch wirkt das Cover farblich sehr harmonisch, und macht durch die Aufmachung neugierig. Dennoch wäre ein anderes Motiv und auch andere Farbgebung, vielleicht besser gewesen.
MEINUNG
Der Einstieg in das Buch fiel mehr sehr leicht. Der Schreibstil liest sich sehr gut, keine besonders schwere Wortwahl, aber dafür effektiv. Manchmal störte es mich, dass das Buch in der dritten Perspektive geschrieben ist und nicht in der Ich-Perspektive. Das hätte sich manchmal natürlicher angefühlt. Dennoch las ich sehr schnell und konnte mir alles recht gut vorstellen.
Aggie ist eine wirklich stimmige Protagonisten. Sie ist nicht fehlerfrei, dafür sehr menschlich. Ihre Gedankengänge sind nachvollziehbar und ich hätte mich eigentlich überall genauso verhalten wie sie. Manchmal hätte sie sich mehr beeilen können, aber ansonsten :D
Auch andere Charaktere, wie Seb, Mir, David und Danny, gaben der Geschichte Vielfalt.
Am meisten jedoch überzeugte mich die Handlung. Ich erwartete ein spannendes Abenteuer auf dem Mond, aber was ich bekam gefiel mir noch wesentlich besser.
Denn die Geschichte ist tiefgründiger, kritischer und dystopischer als ich dachte. Mit kritischem Blick wird auf unsere jetzige Lebenssituation auf dem Planeten hingewiesen, und wir bekommen mit, wie unsere Zukunft aussehen könnte. Eine Zukunft, in der wir sogar noch Glück gehabt hätten.
Dabei hat mich zwar nur eine Wendung richtig überraschen können, aber dennoch blieb ich gefesselt. Die Idee mit "Adrianne Engel" fand ich übrigens auch sehr gut und gab der Geschichte nochmal etwas Tiefe.
Der Verlauf ist gespikt mit Hinweisen, aber auch Verwirrungen. Die Auswahl der Szenen wechselt sich gut ab, neben Action und dem roten Faden spielen auch die charakterlichen Beziehung eine Rolle.
Das Ende gefiel mir nochmal sehr gut. Es wurde sehr spannend und die Auflösungen gefielen mir. Es gab sogar einen waschechten Märtyrer Tod, den habe ich schon ewig nicht mehr gelesen.
FAZIT
Ein toller Roman, hinter dem sich mehr versteckt, als man vielleicht von außen erwartet. Ich empfehle ihn an alle, die gerne Abenteuer lesen, aber auch zum Nachdenken gebracht werden wollen. Für eine Top-Bewertung fehlte mir dann aber doch das gewisse Extra.

This book held a very interesting premise but ultimately did not live up to the epic I imagined. The book posits this interesting idea: Living on the moon and mining its resources. This sounded pretty cool. The main character is very shy and incredibly nervous. We revisit the disaster she was part of as a child quite a lot. So much in fact I sometimes wished we were being told that story as it sounded more eventful than the story we got.
Aggie was quite an annoying character to follow as she spent her time talking about custard rather than the space port around her. She was also a poster child for being the only survivor of the reactor explosion in the past. This is something I never really understood. I didn't know why people thought she was amazing for just surviving (but maybe I missed something there!). The other cast of characters also didn't grab my attention. Her relationship with Danny seemed a bit forced and over friendly despite their differences. There is a slight revelation at the end of the book which is meant to explain Danny's over friendliness but it was a little bit late. In fact most of the interesting things in the book happen right at then end. There are a lot of shock twists all in the final 3-4 chapters which catch you by surprise as there are no breadcrumbs leading you to these conclusions throughout the book. Which was slightly disappointing as it lacked drama or suspense.
The battle for energy was a captivating topic and it was extraordinary to see the lengths people would go to, to have energy and (supposed) peace. But once again Fowler explored this theme a little too late. A lot of the book was built around Aggie delivering a speech, eating custard and having fun with her best friend Seb. Most of the time I found her plight a little irritating as I didn't empathise or sympathise with her. I also thought her speech was a little bit of a stinker but everyone else loved it, which was surprising. The addition of a crazy AI was fun though.
Moondust was an average book. There were a lot of things in this book I didn't enjoy but its hard to point the finger exactly at which parts. There were some cool moments and some philosophical ones but the relationships seemed hollow and the shock reveals were poofed out of thin air. I think when I started this book I had a certain expectation of it, which wasn't met. I expected more sci-fi elements but this book was grounded in the mundane in order to avoid those sci-fi nonsensicals.

Aggie was quite an annoying character to follow as she spent her time talking about custard rather than the space port around her. She was also a poster child for being the only survivor of the reactor explosion in the past. This is something I never really understood. I didn't know why people thought she was amazing for just surviving (but maybe I missed something there!). The other cast of characters also didn't grab my attention. Her relationship with Danny seemed a bit forced and over friendly despite their differences. There is a slight revelation at the end of the book which is meant to explain Danny's over friendliness but it was a little bit late. In fact most of the interesting things in the book happen right at then end. There are a lot of shock twists all in the final 3-4 chapters which catch you by surprise as there are no breadcrumbs leading you to these conclusions throughout the book. Which was slightly disappointing as it lacked drama or suspense.
The battle for energy was a captivating topic and it was extraordinary to see the lengths people would go to, to have energy and (supposed) peace. But once again Fowler explored this theme a little too late. A lot of the book was built around Aggie delivering a speech, eating custard and having fun with her best friend Seb. Most of the time I found her plight a little irritating as I didn't empathise or sympathise with her. I also thought her speech was a little bit of a stinker but everyone else loved it, which was surprising. The addition of a crazy AI was fun though.
Moondust was an average book. There were a lot of things in this book I didn't enjoy but its hard to point the finger exactly at which parts. There were some cool moments and some philosophical ones but the relationships seemed hollow and the shock reveals were poofed out of thin air. Well, I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. :) Primarily aimed at younger teens it was a very quick and easy read (I finished it in a few hours during my commutes to work), but the mysteries surrounding Adrianne and Lunar Inc. really kept me intrigued the whole way through.
Some parts of the book were a bit predictable (as far as sci-fis go, anyway), and there is some insta-love, which I didn't like as much. But I thoroughly enjoyed the inclusion of themes of energy, artificial intelligence and the sci-fi exploration that our own world could end up moving towards. The theme of energy in particular is one reason why I really wanted to read this book; it is such a current topic and I feel it is important to consider the what ifs that can happen in our quest to harvest what we can and keep our energy situation in-tact.
Oh gosh, but there were so many plot-twists! Moondust really keeps you entertained with its thriller-styled YA writing, by releasing small details throughout and allowing to guess what the secrets are for yourself. That said I really wasn't expecting the revelations at the end at all! I mean there were so many twists, it made it a lot more exciting that I thought it was going to be. Celeste and Danny really surprised me!
The ending of this book was really fast-paced and full of action. But I was left feeling that it did end way too quickly, and it definitely could have done with a bit more fleshing out. I wasn't expecting all the shock news and deaths though!
I did find Aggie really whiny and stressful. It did take a long time for her to grow on me as she felt a bit immature considering what has happened. That said I do think that I would act in a very similar situation if I was in her shoes, so I really shouldn't judge! :P
I loved Celeste though- she really surprised me with how sneaky she could be if necessary. A great ally to have on your side, I must admit. Oh, but my heart felt for her at the end though- I couldn't believe what she chose to do <3

I think that it definitely could be fleshed out a bit more in some of the sections, but this debut novel is a dramatic and action-packed YA that deals with so many interesting and crucial topics in our developing world. I loved the energy-based storyline so I would definitely recommend reading it (despite some clichés). :)

Aggie ist ein sehr unsicheres und etwas naives Mädchen. Sie ist sehr liebevoll und fürsorglich. Des Weiteren ist sie sehr tapfer und neugierig. Aggie ist auch sehr neugierig und nachdenklich. Sie ist sehr unerfahren und sie lässt viel mit sich machen.
Seb ist ein sehr besorgter und fürsorglicher Junge. Er ist sehr beschützend und freundlich. Seb ist immer für Aggie da und macht auch fast alles für sie. Und doch bekommt er nicht alles mit.
Meine Meinung
Die Geschichte hat einen guten Plot und eine super Entwicklung. Auch die Charaktere entwickeln sich richtig gut. Jedoch muss ich sagen, dass Aggie von Zeit zu Zeit richtig anstrengend ist. Es ist sehr abwechslungsreich und sehr angenehm zu lesen.

First up how dare you put me on that emotional rollercoaster without a warning! It was devastatingly stunning. Moondust was much more than I was ready for.
The cover is also gorgeous! Definitely one of the most beautiful I've seen.
Aggie definitely has to be one of the greatest characters I've had the pleasure of spending time with. Her inability to not break anything and her general clumsiness makes her lovable. Then her best friend Seb helped produce a friendship I'm jealous of. I wish someone would buy me custard.
Then we have Danny and Celeste. Well... I don't really want to discuss them I'm still in mourning. I was in love with them and then suddenly I wasn't allowed to be. I will never never be over them! So great there goes another small part of my soul I'm never ever gonna get back.
Overall the plot was brilliant. It didn't go in the direction I was expecting which was definitely refreshing especially the twists and turns that were thrown me.
Basically this book felt like I'd placed my emotions down on a fairly innocent looking bit of ground only to discover I'd dropped them down on a viscous soul destroying monster but boy was it worth it!!
Please let me back into there world soon I'm begging you!

‘Moondust’, the debut novel by Gemma Fowler is set in a future where the Earth has been ruined by war and an energy crisis. An energy source, lumite, discovered on the Moon seems like the answer to much of their energy needs. Aggie lives on a moon colony, working in a low-level job, for Lunar Inc who mine the lumite. She keeps her head down, barely managing her job and with only one good friend. But, as the story unfolds we learn there is a lot more to Aggie than her existence as an employee for Lunar Inc.
Aggie despises and is cautious of the criminals that work at the mine, especially those who are terrorists. Things begin to change when she meets one of these prisoner-miners. A series of events raises questions about everything she thought she knew about the world she lives in and brings events from her past into her present.
The story is a mystery that unfolds, building with tension through the characters, their relationships and the dangerous action Aggie is thrown into. Although it’s set in the future, it is a cautionary tale that subtly reflects our present human greed, environmental concerns and politics.
It took me a couple of chapters to warm to Aggie, but I was soon drawn into her conflicts and challenges, willing her to succeed and find happiness. A futuristic sci-fi adventure with a unique setting and premise that I really enjoyed and would recommend.

A short little sci-fi read set in the future where the humans have run out of a power source *ahem renewable energy*, but of course instead of doing the good but harder thing, they do the bad but easier one. They start mining the moon till it cracks for all of this newly discovered source of energy called lumite.
Aggie, a survivor of a disaster ten years ago, suddenly finds herself in the spotlight again but with it she discovers a horrifying secret to the truth of lumite. It's a story about humanity and corruption, set on the moon.
I was intrigued by the premise of this book and knew as soon as it said that the humans had run out of an energy source, something bad was going to happen. I was expecting a little light-hearted read with some romance thrown in, but instead it was kind of creepy in places and with a subtle hint about the sinister character of the human race. There are a lot of lies and a lot of deception, and it makes you think just how far will people go to ignore reality and stay in their little bubble?
It wasn't what I was initially expecting, and the ending leaves it open to interpretation. Who knows what happened in the end! It was quick to read and quite thought-provoking, for me anyway.

"out of darkness, we shine."
i enjoyed this book as a sci-fi and i think if you like sci-fi you'll enjoy it too, but if you don't it might be a little bit too broing for you. it starts off quite slowly with just descriptions of aggie's life on the lunar base. i thought the lunar base was interesting so i didn't mind, but again, if you don't like sci-fi you might find it boring. the plot starts to pick up when aggie has to become the angel of adrianne again and meets danny the miner, although the main interesting plot starts after the party (this is in the middle of the book so you could say it moves pretty slowly. aggie was a good character but it just seems a bit unrealistic that no one would recognise aggie as the angel of adrianne after 10 years with only blue contacts to disguise herself - not many people have red hair. also, how lumite works and how mining lumite works - how did it manage to stop global warming? does it could as a fossil fuel? and how were they planning to mine the lumite long term because if they ran out, surely it would destroy the moon? if you like sci-fi or adventure reads, or don't tend to overanaylse the logistics of books, you'll probably enjoy it.

The ending destroyed my entire soul! Who gave this book the right to play with my emotions like that?
To be honest, I feel that Danny's "death" was unnecessary and really not ok. The book would have lost nothing if he would have been fine and had gone back with them to earth.
If anything I feel that the whole thing with the Afterlife drug was a bit rushed and not explained enough.
(I don't know if there's gonna be a second book, although if there is I want a survived Danny and THEN we can maybe have a bit more to the story of this drug - although, this book really doesn't need a sequel (again I wouldn't object to one, but only if Danny survived - you see I'm still very hung up on the Danny thing))
However, I'll overlook the rushed ending and Danny staying because of how amazing the rest of the book is. I really loved the writing style and the characters were so well established and so likeable.
At first I was kind of sceptical because the blurb made Aggie sound a bit like the marie sue pop star type, which she definitely was not.
I love this book with my entire heart (even though it crushed it mercilessly).

This review makes me feel sooooooo mean, but I did not like this book at all. It took me days to painfully slog through it because I just could not bring myself to read it, which is mad because I can usually read multiple books a day. It’s got Hunger Games vibes in that a girl is being used as the unwilling face of a movement, but none of the excitement or interest. The characters are terrible; like they’ve been taken from a low-rated 90s sitcom and they talk like Morty from Rick and Morty except it’s not funny at all. The general plot was okay, it was an alright idea, except the characters absolutely ruined it and I didn’t care if any of them lived or succeeded. The whole thing was just poorly executed. It’s fine for all ages in a secondary school library, but I wouldn’t bother getting it. Not when there’s some excellent books that are similar to this, like Last of Her Name by Jessica Khoury or Eve of Man by Tom and Giovanna Fletcher, that I would definitely recommend!

This had an interesting idea, set in the near future with believable, everyday characters and realistic world building on a moonbase. Aggie is an ordinary reluctant hero, whose only special power stems from her childhood fame, which she is trying to repress. This is an adventure where the protagonsists fight against the system to improve the future and do not shy away from considering they might have to make sacrifices in the short term to reach a better place. It even builds to a dramatic climax which can affect the whole of the world. Flashes of humour and fun balance up the story line.
However, despite a strong female lead, most of the other characters are men, so the gender balance is surprisingly poor. The last third also turns into a breathless disaster movie, where everything is always collapsing around them, they should be rushing to get away, but somehow they still find time for long discussions in order to get out the character back stories and plot twists.

Run of the mill teen book.
17 yr old girl lost her father 10 yrs ago in an incident which left her scarred and alone. her father was also the man who found lumite, a source of energy the planet could use, only mining from the moon.
Moon station is bad and a band of FALL terrorists are causing chaos on Earth so get sent to the moon to the mines.
Aggie's world is turned upside down when the company her father helped needs her to be their spokesperson, again.
She meets a prisoner who recognises her and from thereon she doesn't know who to trust. Even the computer system seems to have an opinion.
It was cool in places but the sentence where she describes her desk {which is a mess} as an abomination annoyed me and I never quite forgave her that the rest of the read. Was ok but I wasn't mad on it.

Found this book in a charity shop and liked the look of it but I really wasn't a fan of this book. I was really excited the blurb and the premise was a good idea. But all the use of space words like "it's cosmic" or "fragging" just to show that it's set in space and has mining was not needed. Plus the main characters where just so bland. When I got to 50 pages left I realised they were trying to make it a love triangle type thing (I know they're not in love but 2 men fighting over a girl) I think at that point I fully gave up. This could have been a great story prisoners forced to mine minerals on the moon and a conspiracy but the way it was written allot of the time it was just drama. Also to say it's set in the future people say "dude" to many times.

Moondust fährt eigentlich mit einem guten Setting auf, lässt den Leser beim lesen aber zunehmend abdriften. Mir persönlich fehlte letztlich die Spannung, die mich hätte mitreißen können. Der einzige Wermutstropfen waren die kleinen Wendungen am Ende, die in eine etwas unerwartete Richtung gingen. Trotzdem, bei dem Preis für gerade einmal 300 Seiten, und zu wenig Spaß beim lesen, sollte man sich gut überlegen, ob man das Buch wirklich lesen und vor allem kaufen möchte. Von mir daher keine Empfehlung und magere zwei Sterne für die Wendungen am Ende.
