Book 3 of Rose Pearson’s series of Standalone Regency Romance Stories, The Duke's Daughters.
Jacintha Seaworth is wise, complex and watchful. A beautiful woman, she nevertheless prefers to sit out from the dances, preferring to watch people and their interactions. She really couldn’t have chosen a childhood friend more different from her than Henry Musgrave, brother to family friend Claudia, and quite a social ladies’ man. Now that Jacintha is the next daughter in line to fulfill her father’s wishes of seeing all of his daughters married before his illness takes him, it’s time for her to grow up and actually evaluate her feelings for Henry. It’s true that Alexander Slate, naval captain and earl of Highbury, is a much more suitable match, but Jacintha will never be able to deny that there is something there inside of her for Henry. For all his shortcomings, maybe, just maybe, he could become a changed man. If only the path to love for at least one of the Seaworth daughters could be free of doubt or worry. Somehow, it doesn’t even look like sweet and kind hearted Jacintha will be spared a dramatic and harrowing road to love.
A story of unexpected love against all odds in the world of Regency era England. “Rescued by an Earl” is the third book of the Duke’s Daughters Series by Rose Pearson. Each book can be treated as its own standalone romance story, and cliffhanger endings are always strictly avoided.
Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother.
She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her.
She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.
On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!
Kindle freebie romance time again, and this one falls squarely into the "brain candy" category.
Jacintha, the lovely third daughter of a duke, has never quite gotten over her almost-kiss with her friend Henry Musgrave when she was younger. But then Henry was sent off by his family to parts unknown to learn to take care of his family estates. He's just recently come back after some years, but now that he's reached his majority he's only interested in drinking and partying (and, it is implied, sleeping around). So, though it pains her heart, Jacintha blows Henry off - I have to say I liked that part - and tries to talk herself into accepting the attentions of Lord Slate.
Little does Jacintha know that between her pointed words and a stern talking to by his uncle, Henry has finally realized that by heedlessly enjoying his freedom, he's been hurting his family and damaging his own and his sister's prospects. He quickly resolves to turn over a new leaf and, by the way, try to impress Jacintha with his changed ways and try to convince her to give him another chance.
Uncle Roderick's grand idea is to have Henry join him in fighting smuggling operations on the coast of England. It just so happens that this is right where Lord Slate's mansion is. (Here's where the coincidences start to pile up.) And maybe Lord Slate is involved in smuggling ...
The characters are pretty much one-dimensional and the plot falls on the unbelievable side of contrived for me. There's also this weird thing where Jacintha keeps talking about how she just wants a "marriage of convenience," by which she actually means a practical union that's not complicated by love, not one where the couple isn't sharing a bed. She's saying this for no apparent reason that I can see, especially since when she's presented with the perfect practical option with Lord Slate, she totally drags her heels. Because Henry!
On the plus side, the plot moves along at a good smart clip and I didn't see any painful (for me) proofing errors in the text. (Some earlier reviews mention a bunch of errors, but I think they must have been fixed.) It's a very fluffy story and very unrealistic as far as being true to Regency times, but it's enjoyable for a brain candy romance and a Kindle freebie. This is the third in a series but worked fine as a stand-alone read.
Content note: squeaky clean, other than some veiled references to Henry's wild ways in the past and some not-so-veiled threats by the villain ("you'll sleep with me and do whatever I want, haha" kind of thing).["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This is book three of Rose Pearson's series The Duke's Daughters. I have read the first one, but not the second, and it felt like I was missing something.
From the start, the heroine was firm in her stance on marrying without love...and I didn't understand why. There was no reasoning given, two of her sisters were blissfully in love with their husbands, and from all accounts her father had very much loved her mother. So why was she so adamant about marrying without it? It made it really hard for me to understand the heroine at all.
The hero was labeled as the worst sort of rake, but in actuality he seemed rather on the tame side. Maybe a little bold in his flirtations in ballrooms, and definitely a lush, but everyone around him seemed SO embarrassed by him and eager to offer disdain for his actions. The heroine even thought he would ruin her by spreading scandalous tales, though there was nothing in the glimpse of him given to the reader to indicate that he had that sort of reputation. Perhaps he was mentioned in the second book? Because nothing he did in this one seemed to warrant the blatant meanness offered by his family. Even when he began to turn his life around, everyone was quick to think that it wouldn't last. I felt horribly sorry for the man.
The story features a love triangle that is actually pretty interesting - although the timeline was so quick, the reader had to know what was coming. I wish the courtship had been a little more traditional so that we could be at least a little surprised by the "twist" that occurs.
There is a smuggling side plot that seemed wholly unrealistic, not insomuch as the actual smuggling operation (which I found rather exciting), but the idea that the only heir to an earldom would be involved in trying to stop such a dangerous activity without even a mention that he could perish and end the family line. In fact, I was half-expecting the hero's uncle, who convinced him to join in the movement to end the smuggling, to want the hero to die so he could inherit!
All-in-all, I think this wasn't a bad addition to the series, although I would've liked to see the story fleshed out a little better.
This was an ARC, so I am hoping some of the typos (including misspelling some of the characters' names!) and grammatical issues were corrected prior to publication. There were also several instances of repeated conversations (where those involved acted like it was brand new information) that I hope were edited out.

Rescued by an Earl by Rose Pearson by Janice Hamman
This is a thrilling read. It begins like most Regency books I have read with balls and parties for young adults to find a suitable match. It has romance, intrigue, excitement, and danger. I think you will have difficulty putting this book down. I know I did. I was reading about one this morning and planned to finish the chapter and quit reading. I kept reading until I finished at 2:05 a.m. There are so many twist and turns that it is hard to put down. I hope you enjoy it as much as I.
Lady Rose does it again! A must read - exciting story!
Rescued by an Earl is an enchanting adventure. The story held my interest through to the very end. The characters were well developed and totally believable. Remember people are not always what they seem.
This is the story of a third daughter who is looking to choose a husband. There were some surprises along the way that will have you on the edge of your seat! The author's vivid description of the various settings made me feel as though I was right there with the characters.
This is one you won't want to put down!

One moment in time can both alter and correct their life paths.
Unbeknownst to the other, both Lady Jacintha and Lord Henry Muskgrove had each wondered over the last few years what would have happened if their “almost kiss” in the garden had not been interrupted. Maybe she would not now be so ambivalent toward love. Maybe he would not have changed from a gentleman into a rogue. Although each still secretly held a place in their hearts for the other, would fate be kind enough to reunite them. Only time would tell.
Rescued by an Earl is an entertaining, stand-alone novel about second chances and honesty between friends. Rose Pearson's descriptive writing is true to the period, and she brings to life this sweet and clean Regency romance. Each character is well sculpted with unique voices. The hero, heroine and supporting characters are as likable as the villain is dangerous. In fact, it is the added element of danger that moves this story from slightly boring to interesting. The sweet epilogue is a satisfying touch to the HEA ending.

When a lady needs rescuing, a man must do what a man must do! Jacintha must marry. Anyone but Henry, that is. Simple as that. It is her time to find a husband since her elder sisters are now married. When she is swept up by the impeccable manners of Lord Slate, she thought she found the man to make her forget Henry. But, when Slate shows his true colors, it is up to Henry to rescue her from near tragedy.
This book is a bit slow to start. There is a lot of back story to get through to understand the plot. But oh, what a plot it is! Once it hooks you, it is off to the races! I was unable to put it down and ended up with a massive book-hangover. Just one more page turned into chapter after chapter.
A must read for any Regency lover!

Jacintha Seaworth was in the garden with her old family friend, Henry. But something was different this time. Her heart beat rapidly. When did he get so handsome? As she touched his shoulder, he also seemed surprised; but then he drew her to him, prepared to kiss her when one of her sister’s called for her. The spell was broken but would not be forgotten. He went overseas to look over his father’s holdings and it was years before she saw him again.
Jacintha was discussing the upcoming Season with her married sister, Jessica, and her youngest sister, Harmonia. Now that their father’s health seemed to be somewhat improved, the pressure to get them all married in case something happened had lessened. Both young ladies could relax a little. But Jacintha told them she now preferred a marriage of convenience as long as the man was kind. Her sisters were surprised at her change of heart! Then Jessica excitedly told her an old neighbor had returned – Henry, the first man who almost kissed her in the garden 4 years ago, was back!
Henry was now Viscount Musgrove and was at the crowded ball. His sister, Claudia, had told Jacintha that he was not the same gentleman she knew before. She called him a “rogue”. Later when Harmonia saw him, she said he was rakish, having been seen with three women and winking at one! Jacintha was very disappointed and glad she had not sought him out. A young man asked Harmonia to dance, leaving his friend, Lord Slate, with Jacintha. So he asked her to dance. He was very kind and handsome, and she enjoyed his company – even when she saw Henry dancing and turned away.
Claudia rebuked Henry for his rudeness in not seeking out Lady Jacintha. He realized she was right. She proudly stated that she had warned Jacintha away from him because of his behavior, which he did not think he warranted. But his thoughts turned to that time in the garden. If he had kissed her, would his life be different now? Or was it his rakish behavior that made him just curious about how she would respond? If he doesn’t make his choice quickly, he just may lose his second chance for happiness this time, especially with the charming Lord Slate enchanted with Jacintha!
This was an excellent story, captivating and well written! The reader is made aware of Jacintha and Henry’s early attraction to each other. Four years of absence and idle gossip makes Jacintha uncomfortable to renew acquaintances. A new potential match also distracts her. It was exciting to watch how things progressed, with the reader cheering for the favorite -- though not sure exactly which one that is! Don’t miss this one (and the other books in the series as well)! The story line was well paced and the characters likable. I confidently recommend this book.
Lady Jacintha had a moment with her friend Henry that left her wondering, what if??? It seems she felt chemistry with him she'd never before experienced, and wasn't sure what to do with that feeling. She decided she wanted to marry for convenience, and not for love. My question is, as the daughter of a Duke, there is absolutely no reason for this. Was there something in a previous novel that explained why she was so adamant she not didn't want love?? This is the first of Rose's novels that I've read. It's possible this was answered somewhere else?
The prologue seemed to be written in a different tone than the rest of the book, so don't let that put you off. The book was much, much better. I submitted a lot of grammar edits, so some things other reviewers mentioned will be fixed in the final version.
She did a good job with the story, with the suspense. I liked the characters, liked that it was clean.
*Spoiler alert*
I liked that the motivation of a desire for love of a good woman helped Henry to want to become a better man. He doesn't seem to be a very bad rogue, though. Why was his sister so set against him, it seemed too dramatic for the way he was described. He didn't seem to be that bad of a rogue?
Also, some of the storyline, with Lord Slate, seemed a bit dramatic. Why would he want a wife who didn't want to support his decisions? He had enough money, why was he so insistent on her and only her?
Why would he be abusive of her prior to marriage if he wanted to marry her, and while her family was there? Most often, the worst of the devil is revealed after the vows are spoken, and not before. It would've been more believable had there been more of a hint of the devil earlier on, with more of a progression over time making him worse than it was instead of all at once, and Jacintha rationalizing away his behaviors more.

I really enjoyed Rescued by an Earl. He was romantic, suspenseful and action packed.

Rose Pearson gives the reader an interesting to historical life in England. The reader is introduced to Jacintha and her family. The story begins with a very young Jacintha having feelings for a young gentleman and is looking for him to admit his feelings for her. They are interrupted by one of her sisters so nothing happens. The storyline picks up years later and Jacintha is dealing with her father trying to marry her off so that she is taken care of when he ultimately passes on. Jacintha's one sister is married, another sister is hesitating about her suitor and Jacintha is not looking forward to making a suitable match. Jacintha has a very odd idea of why she will marry. Jacintha's sisters inform her that someone they knew a long time ago has come back and Jacintha does not know what to make of his return. Attending a ball at Almacks Jacintha meets Alexander, Earl of Slate who pursues her affections. Strangely Jacintha shows some interest in the gentleman. Now the fun begins as now there are two interested in her and while she has feelings for the young gentleman from her past (Henry, Lord Musgrove), she feels Alexander is a more suitable match. The story continues as Henry tries to get Jacintha to admit her feelings for him and Jacintha decides she will accept Alexander's suit. Henry is involved with helping his Uncle with a problem with smugglers and when he goes to see Jacintha he finds out the family has left to visit with Alexander at his home in the area where Henry has been helping his Uncle. Now things turn real interesting and things come out about Alexander that disturb Jacintha and her family. There's a lot of action as the story comes to its conclusion. The ending is very exciting and satisfactory.
3. Rescued by an Earl 4 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance Rescued by an Earl in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson, and this review was given freely. Full of drama, this dark second chance at love and a reformation of a rake story is complicated by the duplicity of a smuggler. Jacintha has her turn in London and although Lord Slate is persistent, she cannot forget a touching childhood moment with the now wastrel and spendthrift Viscount Henry Musgrove. 18+ for violent content. 4. In the Arms of an Earl 3 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance In the Arms of an Earl in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson, and this review was given freely. A lengthy instant attraction romance that is filled with violence. Obsessed, desperate, and indebted, Harmonia’s cousin Luke becomes violent in his multiple attempts to separate Harmonia from Phillip Marshal the new Earl of Newford and thus marry her himself. 5. The Reluctant Marquess: The Series Prequel 4 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance The Reluctant Marquess: The Series Prequel in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson and this review was given freely. Not what I was expecting given the rest of the series. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of violence and by the checkered past of Lord Seaworth, the future Duke of Westbrook, in this lengthy reformation of a rogue romance. My curiosity was finally satisfied as I learned the reason behind the daughter’s names. Under his brother’s supervision, the carefree and indulgent Lord Seaworth is pulled from his life of overindulgence to chaperone family friend, Miss Newton’s first Season in London.
I greatly enjoyed this book by Rose Pearson, but then again I always enjoy her books. Written for those of us who love reading about the Regency Era, Rose manages to write the best scenarios and descriptions that please the mind's eye about fashion, ballrooms, nobility, and all the trappings that accompany a woman's journey through the "marriage mart". Reading about the social graces & how people acted towards each other is fascinating to me. There is much to recommend that Era, but I think I'm going to have to admit that I like living in the now with journeys made via reading Rose's books. One of Rose's special gifts, is involving a believable situaion on every page. Love, mystery, misunderstandings, & danger are all included to entice the reader deeper into the story. I find myself so entranced by the characters (and repelled by others) that I find that I have read the entire book before I know it! It's a wonderful way to spend chilly Maine winters, soggy spring days, sunny beach days, and cooling autumn eves! Rose's books fit every season. Rescued by an Earl, is yet another excellent read by Rose Pearson & I highly recommend this book to you!

While this is an OK romance I can't call it a keeper. Mostly because I couldn't get too worked up about the hero and heroine, Henry and Jacintha. Neither seem to have much strength of purpose or independent thought, but look to others to guide them - even though they are supposed to be mature adults. They knew each other from childhood, then one day when older, nearly kiss. It doesn't come off and neither of them do anything to pick up where they left off. They just go their separate ways for years, while supposedly thinking about "what might have been" for all that time. Why? No reasonable explanation. The hero becomes a wastrel (also, Why?) and the heroine decides she doesn't want a love match but would rather settle for a comfortable one (again, why?). They meet again years later and begin to recognize feelings for each other. SPOILER There is Jacintha's concern about Henry's character and the interest of another suiter to keep them apart. I kept wondering, why the rush to make a decision? If she really cares for Henry couldn't she wait a month or so before deciding to accept someone else? It all just seemed contrived.

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST SPECTACULAR READS!!! Oh, man. This is the best storyline. I was captivated from the start. The paragraph. It has all the excitement you'd expect from Lady Rose and all the drama. It was smooth flowing with plenty of twists, turns and surprises to keep your attention. I was so immersed I couldn't put it down. Not for a second. The scenes and characters were so detailed and the description related perfectly. They were so realistic I was biting my nails and tightenin my tummy when it got really serious. It played out so well it was like a flower openin up welcoming the spring. I know I probably say every time that this is the best book ever, but I'm going to sat it again. Yes, I'm not going to lie. I cried. You would to. Or you will when you read it to find out why. Rose continues to leave me in awe. She has such a gift with bringing her stories to life. My family constantly grows. Well, you know? The characters. They are so deeply and affectionately described that they feel like a part of my family. Lady Rose has done such a phenomenal job bringing this read to life and into mine. Thank you Lady Rose.
This was an interesting read about second chances with likable characters that is entertaining.. A delightful clean read that holds your attention. Jacintha is the next daughter to marry she had her sights on Henry but with time all things change and it turns out he has become a rogue and rake and that just will not do. As she moves on she still cannot put him out of her mind but looks for a gentlemen who she feels with make her a good match. She will marry and it will be a marriage of convenience instead of love. Alexander seem to be the best she will get, now with Henry back he sees how the land laid and decides he must do something about his rep and works on winning Jacintha back but has his actions be too much for her to over look or will she realize Henry is the man for her before she marries someone else.
This was a cute interesting read that holds you attention with great characters you can relate to. I enjoyed the authors writing style and the plot was great. Not all things are as they seem, the author gives many twists and turns that grabs you holding your attention. It was a good read that I enjoyed. *******************
This is the third book of this series and it kept me as interested as the previous two books did. Jacintha Seaworth, third daughter of the Duke of Westbrooke, and Lord Henry Musgrove are the two main characters. Four years after their “almost” kiss in her gardens, they meet again, but Henry has changed. Even though he won’t leave her thoughts, Jacintha decides a marriage of suitability would be better than love. Lord Alexander Slate would be a perfect match, but then again, not all things are as they seem. Jacintha’s choices put her in grave danger and only a miracle can save her. I think this story really made me appreciate Jacintha’s father. He truly loves his daughters and even though he wants to see each one married as soon as possible, he also wants them to be happy. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes clean, Regency romances with wonderful characters, danger, and suspense. Rose Pearson is a great author whose books you should read if you haven’t done so already. I received an advance reader copy of this book. This is my honest review.
Jacintha Seawoth is the next in the family to marry. She decided to marry for convenience rather than experience the heartache of falling in love. But in reality will this work?? Will she be able to do this? There was undeniable chemistry between Jacintha and Henry, Viscount Musgrove but he went away and changed. Will he be able to change back to the man he was or will Lord Slate win her hand? The main characters were well fleshed out, relatable and realistic for that time period. The supporting characters were well written. The reader will find this story engrossing from the first to the last word. You will be taken into danger, suspense, drama, tension, smuggling , adventure, mystery, intrigue plus many twists and turns. This is book # 3 in the Duke Daughters series. It can be read as a stand along. The author entwined the past and present effortlessly. I volunteered to read Rescued by an Earl. Thanks to Booksprout and the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
Jacintha is the next of the dukes daughters to find a husband. She travels with her family to London to be invited by the ton to the many balls and parties in search for the perfect husband. Her youngest sister Hermonia is also looking for a suitable husband. As Jacintha meets many eligible men she can’t forget her childhood friends brother, Henry. When she learns that Henry has turned into a rogue she sets her sights elsewhere. When she meets Lord Slate she thinks he is perfect for a marriage of companionship as she has given up on love. Without giving away the ending let’s just say things are not always as they seen. This was a good regency novel. I would recommend it to others who enjoy reading about the regency era.

This is full if drama, suspense, intrigue and surprises. Henry and Jacintha were cute when they first realized that there was something between them, but then Henry was sent away and he turns into a rake. Which he finds nothing wrong with, until Jacintha treats him like a stranger. Her being pursued by a man she seems interested in makes him realize that he needs to change to be worthy of her so he joins his uncle who is trying to catch a smuggler. Meanwhile Jacinda can't decide if she wants to be courted Lord Slate or not, despite his arduous pursuit. And not everyone is what they present themselves to be, so confusion and angst reigns. The supporting characters are naive but interesting and the storyline is entertaining.

This is a really good book! At first I find it a little slow, mostly because I didn’t understand why everyone was so judgmental of Henry, I didn’t quite get what was he doing that was so frown upon, but as I continued to read I realize why. From there I couldn’t put the book down! I loved the family dynamic, especially the sisters’s relationship. Jacintha was a lovely heroine, strong enough to stand for herself. This was a great history I’d just wish there was more interaction between Henry and Jacintha, they weren’t together for most of the book and it made me feel like I was reading an adventure or a drama more than a romance. But the ending made it up for me, I loved it. I hope the next book comes quickly!

Enjoying her dance with the handsome Earl of Slate, Jacintha Seaworth briefly met the eyes of her once dear friend Lord Henry Musgrove. The rumored rake no longer held her fascination. So many years had passed without any contact from him. For Henry, it had taken two glances to recognize Jacintha. She had grown more beautiful. When next they meet, Jacintha did not encourage Henry. Instead she silenced him with the words, "You are not the man I once knew." A few days later, Henry's uncle, Lord Roderick Musgrove basically reiterated a similar message. Henry wanted to be the respectable man he was born to be. He wanted Jacintha's acceptance. When his uncle offered him a surveillance job near the coast, Henry became a team member holding no special rank. Will Jacintha become captivated by the Earl of Slate or will Lord Henry Musgrove remain the champion of her heart?
This book had all of the earmarks of a true love story - and the kind we like. Who doesn't want to "reform a rake"? Who doesn't want to vicariously experience that tension, sexual and otherwise? This story has it all, including adventure, and I also like the supporting characters here. I hate to put spoilers in reviews because we'd like to see for ourselves the merits of the book. The society - the Ton, are as hypocritical. I also enjoy a story of the struggle to overcome propriety for love. That's story. Then we watch as Jacintha and Henry fight the attraction, but love and happiness prevail. OK - that may have been a bit of a spoiler, but let's just say you'll enjoy the read. I admit that I read this first, and now need to go back and read the first two in the series. Now I'm even more excited to check out the other players.
I really enjoyed this book. Jacintha and Henry were best of friends when they were younger and at one point, they almost shared a kiss. Right after that Henry left to travel with his father to learn his future duties. Jacintha only wants a marriage of convenience and is set to choose a husband this season. When Henry returns home, he's a rogue and not the same person at all. Being bold, she tells him exactly how it is. She's now being courted by another and Henry's not happy. As he decides to change his ways and help his Uncle with smugglers, he discovers that the one man who has caught Jacintha's attention is most likely the head smuggler. This is filled with deception, trust and of course romance. Great characters. Can Henry change enough to win Jacintha back or is it too late and she's doomed to be married.
Exciting addition to this series, this book was full of mystery, danger, enlightenment and romance. Henry’s character was typical of some of the ton during this time period. His realization of where this lifestyle was taking him and his subsequent changes, was wonderful to see. Jacintha’s feelings for Henry keep getting in the way of looking for a husband, can she really commit to Lord Slate? This was such an enjoyable book, I couldn’t put it down and it was after midnight when I finished it. The storyline was great, and the characters were realistic of this period in History. I loved this book and can’t wait for Harmonia’s story. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Third book in the series following the Duke of Westbrook's daughters as each one tries to fulfill their father's wishes to see all his daughter's married before he passes on. It is now Jacintha's turn to find a husband. Unbeknown to her sisters, she is in love with Henry - her first love - but does not like his behaviour as a typical rake befitting the young men of the ton during that time period, so she decides to marry for convenience. Well written, it is an entertaining story by Rose Pearson with a believable cast of characters and good family dynamics between the sisters. For those who enjoy Regency Romances with some adventure and a happy ending. I received a copy via booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it.
I quite liked the plot and it is a nice read overall but only giving three stars because for some reason the story as a whole was flat for me with that spark of energy missing and zero humor, no witty banter, no real chemistry between the main characters. The best way I can describe is "I liked the words but I did not have an emotional reaction". I reviewed the ARC version, so perhaps the story has since improved, but there were several inconsistencies, redundancies, etc. which further diminished my enjoyment, e.g. the father being outraged at the villain (trying not to provide spoilers) only to 10 pages later express surprise over same behavior because he thought the villain was a nice man.
Jacintha didn't care about love. All she wanted was a husband so she could live the way she wanted to without any demands put onto her. She didn't think she would fall in love with anyone, just find a dependable man who would take care of her and allow her to do what she wanted to do. However, she never forgot the almost kiss that she almost had from Henry in the garden a few years earlier. She met a Lord Slate at a ball and he seemed interested in her . While he tried to court her, she often thought of Henry, but nothing came of that. Lord Slate asked her father for permission to court her. But he had a secret life in the country that would cause a bad end. Great read, very entertaining.
Loved this third book in The Duke's Daughter's series. This is Jacintha's story and it is full of romance, action, and a dastardly villain. Jacintha is determined to have a marriage of convenience. She was in love with her childhood friend Henry, but when he returns, he is a changed man. Henry has turned into a rogue and seems to be more interested in having fun than being a serious peer of the realm. When he sees Jacintha again, he is haunted by the almost kiss of their youth and is determined to be a better man. However, Jacintha is being pursued by Lord Slate and she is tempted to accept his persistent suit, but is he too good to be true? I really like reading this author and enjoy her clean regency era romances!
This is the story of the third daughter, Jacintha, who has decided that rather than experience the heartache of falling in love she will settle for a marriage of convenience. Jacintha thought she had feelings for an old friend, Henry, Viscount Musgrove but unfortunately he hasn’t turned out for the best. She does have another suitor in Lord Slate. There follows a number of events , involving smugglers, a visit to the coast and true characters revealed. An entertaining read. I look forward to reading about the youngest sister. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rose Pearson writes delightful stories and this one is no different. As with her sisters Jacintha needs a husband, but does not want a love match fearing the demands it would make on her. A marriage of convenience would do her fine and a Duke looking for a wife falls nicely into place. Then her childhood friend Henry came along with his life in a mess and she ends up confused. As ever with this author things do not go smoothly and when Henry decides to sort himself out Jacintha’s two worlds collide and chaos ensues. A great story well worth reading.
