What happens when a Physics student is told about her legacy as an Element?

What if the five elements had a real fight with the Five Vices? Welcome to the world of Ann Fletcher, a simple, quiet physics student who can pass by a person and sense their aura. Little did she know that her ability could be the indication of her legacy.

The world around her changes as David, Eidette, Oivia and Crispin enter her life to tell her that she is the Last Link in their chain. She is the fifth element, Earth. Will she fight the Epidromeas that threaten her city? The Last Link is a story of two levels. The simpler one is the fight of good against evil, presented as an adventure fantasy, set amidst the urban life of a student. The second level is about the battle within us, to fight the evil forces and let the good triumph to reach spiritual enlightenment.

The tale draws inspiration from Greek, Chinese and Indian schools of thoughts to show that we are all connected spiritually.

Little back story (Unprofessional) : I know the writer, not personally. she was my college mate and after reading her first book from the college library (Murder for passion) i kinda wanted to pick her brain because at the age where she wrote a nearly flawless thriller murder novel i was at home arguing to my friends about why pickachu won't live in pokeball. i'm more interested in writers then stories in general.
but couldn't get a chance to and i won't be biased over my review here.

Professional : Lets get down to the book, the book has an amazing cover which remind you of the old nicklodean reality task show's set (Legends of the hidden temple) in all blue. giving all mysterious vibe even before you start grasping its sharpe induced words.
the book's concept is not a new one but it certaintly a fresh one in its story telling.

the writer seems more matured, well researched about what she trying to convey yet seems to define the innocence/maturity and different shades of emotions of every character. i mean it would be really difficult to phase between multiple emotions for different characters. there is only one drawback, no chracter development. the characters seems to hold on to what they were in the start of this book just going home with experience of what had happened with them.

the backdrop of the said story is very wide. Even bigger than any video game you ever played surprisingly this book gives you a history/fantasy lesson like a conveniently vegan ice cream (if thats a thing)

I would totally recommend it, it will give you a cold mesmerising feeling when you finish it and left you with more questions then answers, a good blend for a fantasy novel.

I think i owe the writer a cup of coffee.

Manisha Malhotra does a brilliant job of welding spirituality with science fiction in her book The Last Link. The protagonist Ann Fletcher is a physics student. She can discern the aura of any person. The panch mahabhutas or the five basic elements come in the form of human characters and turn Ann's world up side down. She is the Earth in the human form. The conflict, the twists and turns make this book readable.

The writing is simple and lucid. The author avoids jargons, a relief to the readers for this is a complex story. The characters take time to establish themselves and much time is spent on their back stories. I wish this could have been curtailed. Yet the story manages to keep you glued till the end. Though the first half drags a bit, the second half compensates for it and you get to read an edgy thriller. This book is certainly not to be missed.

Characteristics of the five elements were incorporated in the protagonists Ann, David, Olivia, Crispin and Abigail. Eidette, Andrew, Eli, Kai, Alexandra termed as the dark forces possessed the traits of the five vices. Science and religion, often contradicting each other, are blended in right proportions which make this novel distinct from others in the sci-fi genre. The scenario of the five vices pitted against five elemental forces is something new and different. Yet, the fictional world woven by the author manages to charm you. Spiritual theories were beautifully explained by the principles of physics.

Simple language and yet complex thoughts beautifully articulated. Inspiration in every line and suspense in every chapter, what else a book needs. Well the climax is something which gets the final award. Today there are lots of books which gives too much promise in the first few chapters and loses its grip towards the end but this has tightened the rope till the last word where I was expecting a miracle. Good God. It was a wonderful experience.

Very rarely I have come across a book like A story between the lines which is written in simple language and yet engaged me thoroughly although I don't have any fancy towards Indian writing. On a second thought I realized more than the language the situations the characters live , the emotions they feel and the environment they face got me glued forgetting the rest of literate which hardly mattered for a book with this much life.

Today so much has been made out in the name of a true story and readers are made to wonder if this can be really real. But today I read a fiction which made me feel this is kind of really real. So true words and true thoughts. I felt that the author must be one great soul or else how so many things can come out from a single book. This book is highly recommended, no Matter who you are, where you are and what you are.

A story between the lines . An amazing title very apt for the story , just the more you think about the title the more it makes suitable. Between the lines as they says something more than what is written. This is exactly what happened to me with this book. Although the story was gripping and so was the moral , it was taking me to a life too different and made me live a new life with those words. Thank you Manisha for such a wonderful creation.

Protagonist Ann always see herself as a normal student with deep connection in physics. She can see aura of the people around her which seems to be a normal trait to her. The surprise turn comes when she has to save her city from sinners by jumbling herself with four David, Eidette, Oivia and Crispin, who state her that she is the last link of their missing puzzle or elements (seriously sounds like some Hollywood movie.)

People who love science and would like to enter to the sci-fi world, grab this book !
I really loved how the plot is narrated though it is not properly connected. But yeah, it is not at all a difficult read.Finished it in a single sitting. The best part is that the author takes you to a different place, a different dimension of where science cab really amuse the readers.

A very interesting read. Provides lot of food for thought. Two parallel plots are blended magnetically. A must read for anyone remotely interested in science or spirituality. Although would have liked if a few more pages were added towards the end, coz it looked kinda rushed through.. nevertheless a remarkable book.

The story and writing style are the heartbeats of ‘The Last Link.’ This unique book conceptualises and blends science with spirituality to give very varied scenarios and managed to set a bizarre notion. The ultimate war of the good and evil is portrayed in rare fashioned mixing the concepts of science and sacred from Greek, Chinese and Indian cultures.

It wouldn’t be appropriate to term this book as a quick read because it takes time to assimilate some of the spiritual aspects. However it is a rather refreshing one. This book is something that science enthusiasts and fantasy lovers would definitely cherish.

Despite the hullabaloo of the characters, the characterization has been commendable. Not only does every character holds down its own guard, but also plays out well in words. The complete credit for this goes to the author.

The narration is pretty vivid which makes our imagination run free. Although the fast pacing didn't let the story develop as much as it could have.
