A new series of huge books collecting classic Robotech comic material!
An alien ship crashes into the Earth - and humans use the ship's technology to improve their own - in leaps and bounds. Years later, the alien race attacks Earth - but can the humans' new technology help them defend themselves?
Definite (in my opinion) improvement over the previous volume.
The art is still very inconsistent, with some gorgeous pages that they have one random character drawn terribly (looking rushed) in a panel, but it is definitely getting better. It's starting to look more like what I remember it looking like, through my childhood filter.
The writing benefits from Markalan Joplin taking over, as well. It isn't a sudden change when he becomes the writer, as the first couple of issues feel like more of what came before, but he seems to be finding his stride by the end of the book. We start getting into the story adding to what was in the show, as opposed to just summarizing it. That's why a lot of us come to these additional media, isn't it?
Optimistic for the third volume, and for finding backissues of the later Comico works that Titan hasn't bothered to reprint.
Robotech is such a good series. I have enjoyed it since the 1980s when the Macross Saga aired on afternoon television. I like having the collected comic book adaptation and hope Titan Comics will finish up someday with Masters and New Generation series.
In volume 2, the art team really hits their stride capturing the look of the anime. And the soap opera saga becomes ever more epic and heartbreaking.
