Cheaters

Rate this book
Cheaters tells nine short stories, each discussing a different shade of infidelity in today's times when societal norms are still the same-archaic. However, the urge to explore and experiment amongst the youth is at an all-time high. This friction, if not handled well, could lead to unexpected roads. Each story, though high on emotions, unfolds in a thrilling narrative.

Cheaters by Novoneel Chakraborty are a collection of nine short stories. The plot revolves around extramarital affairs and lies woven by the partners. The cover page is attractive and tempting.

All the nine stories are based on hidden sexual desires of the characters. Few stories will tell you about the women fantasies, while others left a mark on your mind when you think about why anyone's cheat. The stories are dark and narrated very well. Man and woman live with each other, but if they are sexually incompetence, they will start looking for different ways to fulfill their desires. Humans are trained to live in a moral perimeter since birth, whether it's emotional, ethical, or social. The mind will keep a person sane or in a limit, while the heart works on primal instinct.

The characters listen to their heart, but they are bound by responsibilities which lead them to lies, one after the other. The lustrous desires played a prepotent part in the life of female protagonists. The male characters share the same amount of lust and have hidden secrets. Few characters like Meera and Siya from The Whore and the Wife, and The Flight is on Time stands out.

The barrier of domestic life forced Radhika to change her identity because, in Indian society, a woman has to ask for permission all the time from her in-laws and husband. They treat a woman like a prized trophy and think that their wife's only work is to take care of his spouse parents and do whatever they told to.

In another story, Devang didn't come out from his closet and married to Kratika, the fantasies about a different person will connect them sensually. The language is simple. Novoneel Chakraborty smoothly narrates the dark and deepest desires of a person. The story unfolds many layers of hidden emotions. One can finish reading it in a few hours. I recommend this thrilling and captivating novel to adults.

This is a collection of 9 short stories of couples, their sex life, their fantasies, extra marital relationships and everything in between. My first book by Novoneel Chakraborty and I was not disappointed… Each story was handled differently and gave a new perspective of the protagonists. It’s a very quick read under 200 pages and you will keep on flipping pages continuously until you realise you are at the end. While I loved the twist in ‘Weekends’; I enjoyed the stories ‘The Vacation’ and ‘The Flight is on time’ a lot.
If you have read this book; which one did you like the most?

I read this one. Though with a pinch of salt or sugar, whatever may be your choice to enjoy most of the stories!
There are stories about cheating (as the title depicts) either by the wife or the husband; or cheating not in the real sense but otherwise that can be counted as cheating.
There are 9 short stories out of which I really loved reading 'The Whore and The Wife' & 'The Flight is on Time'.
The rest of the stories lack authenticity and grip.
*Adult contents warning.
*And yes, if any of the authors are reading this review, the adult contents do not do much if there's no actual content or better, if there's no story! And we readers do not keep skipping the pages to desperately get into adult scenes.
*If you think we readers want erotica, there are millions of books regarding that genre.
*Mystery/thriller/horror/crime books don't necessarily need all these graphic contents to make the stories get more real. No, it doesn't work like that. We readers accept it from time to time cos we are overwhelmed by something else in the story and not because of such scenes.

Gave up on this author and his books as I DO see a trend in his books to focus more on hook-ups and such unnecessary adult contents rather than the actual plot or character development.

Novoneel Chakraborty, I adore you. A surprising sentence, that too coming from me. But I do admire you. Your ability to stay relevant after peddling badly written "thrilleroticas" for so long, deserves applaud.

You know your audience well, your pretentious manner of writing, your love for cliches, and your preference of smut over content, solidifies your presence in the Indian reading market. A demographic who would rather accept death, then ever broaden their reading spectrum.

The only reason I turn to you is because your books are cheap. Secondly, they have good glossy covers. Another applause for the marketing maestro that is you and your team. Your novels serve as a good cushion between a string of actual books. A dose of shallow escapism.

But then, how did you manage to write a book as boring as 'Cheaters'. It had your usual pretentious character names, cliched world views, predictable plot lines and god awful dialogues. (The Whore and the Wife, takes the cake for having the worst dialogues I've read in a long time.)

But maybe you're a lonely man, Novoneel Chakraborty. Amidst the ocean of your rabid fanbase, maybe you're so very lonely. Such loneliness would explain why you barely know how people actually converse. It would also explain why majority of your characters are cut from the same old cloth.

But I'll give it you, this short story collection wasn't remotely as bad as the Forever Duology. You actually managed to write some solid if forgettable stories in this. Maybe tone down the erotica a bit? Think about being unpredictable for once? Devote as much time improving your dialogues, as you ponder over the term 'Soul' in your books?

I believe in you Novoneel Chakraborty. And I'll keep on buying your books, because I make questionable life choices.

People, when they take a look at this cover, might assume that its another one of those 'masala' romance stories.

They wouldn't be more wrong.

Cheaters goes deeper. It explores all the facets, good and bad, the simplicities and the complexities, that the human mind is capable of conjuring, and being.

It explores the society's shackles, infidelity, and the relativity of anything that is deemed 'immoral' or 'questionable' on the face.

Is anything black, or white? Or everything, and everyone has shades of grey?

In this collection, in every story you'll feel that the line between the 'good person' and the 'bad person' is blurred. Isn't it nearer towards the reality anyway?

Here are a couple of my favourite quotes from the book -

1. The mind is socially trained while the heart is habituated to its primal nature.

2. A relationship works out best when a couple is tolerant of each other's differences; it is more important than having shared interests.

Is love, just love? Or like everything else, has numerous dark corners to it?

You can skip this one, even if you are a Novoneel fan. I never thought I would be writing this about his book. Of all 9 stories, I only liked 2 (Tickets are done and weekends) which had some suspense element or had some interesting plot. Overall it was a slow and quite depressing read as almost all stories were about marital issues. It wasn’t engaging like his other books. I wasn’t hooked onto this one so took me 10 days to finish such a short length book. Very disappointed with this one. His mystery novels are far better and what makes him a favourite among readers.

Cheaters is a book with 9 short stories. These stories truly explore the other side of the love as the cover suggests! The stories make you aware of different complex dimensions of human emotions and relationships. When you read them you feel that whatever is going on is wrong but still is correct with the character’s perspective. Human psychology is truly an enigma.

The 9 titles, of 9 short stories, together contribute to justifying the one big title - CHEATERS. The titles have been chosen very intelligently.

LANGUAGE AND WRITING SKILLS-

The author has written the book and used the language in a brilliant way. The book aptly shows the author's writing skills and knowledge of the language. The words and phrases have been used correctly.

NARRATION -

All the 9 stories and the way they are narrated, shows how much important it is, to present the story in a proper manner. Also, when it is a short story collection, it gets difficult for an author to explain each and every scenario completely. But while reading this book, one doesn't face problems in understanding the situation and story.

PORTRAYAL OF CHARACTERS -

Right from the woman in the first story, to the couple in the last story, each character justifies the role correctly. The author has done a great job in this context.

Though the book deals with infidelity as such, I would say it was an awesome book full of 'emotions'. Never expected Novoneel to write it in such a brilliant way - the stories based on girl's perspective were 100 percent on the mark! Bravo!!

♥️CHEATERS♥️ ~ by NOVONEEL CHAKRABORTY

This book is an emotional thriller. It comprises nine short stories which will take you to the other side of love (or lust). As the title intimates, this book is not about nine stories of cheating, but its about nine stories which redefine the meaning of 'cheating'. Each and every short story is written in such a manner that will make you contemplate of your idea of love!

It adequately describes about the unceasing desire of man to explore and experiment. It subtly expresses many hidden desires and fantasies and the consequences that follow. It profoundly expresses issues like infidelity. It rolls around the misconception of lust for love. The nine tales are based on true events and the author has definitely given all of the stories an intense thoughtfulness.

This book is meant for open minded people who can understand the deep significance behind each chapter. This book will change your perspective on life. It's a must read for every mature person who was, is or will ever be in love...!
I rate this book 4.5/5

🌹My personal opinion 🌹
As soon as I read the synopsis of this book, I was so fascinated by it. I remember this one line from the book "Will we ever be forever elusive to our partners?" I found each and every story very luring. You discover a new lesson of love after every chapter and by the end the author leaves up to YOU to decide who was the cheater and who was the one being cheated on..!!! Because at the end it all lies in our head💫

After reading Stranger trilogy and Forever Series I couldn't resist myself to read this one. So one of my friend bought this book and I kind of snatched it from her to read it as soon as I can, not giving her any chance to read it.😝

This book consists of 9 short stories. Each story talks about one or more cheater in a relationship. But actually if you think deeply, nobody was actually cheater, the only Cheater were their situations. What I loved the most, about all these short stories is that they all talk about some topics or some issues which we normally don't talk about, like sexual displeasure, sexual dissatisfaction, sexual orientation, emotional detachment, emotional abuse, etc. They don't take you to a conclusion which states that you know people can be bad and that is why relationship breaks...Rather it gives you an opportunity to understand that there can be so much reasons for a people to break their precious relationship or to be in a relationship with adjustments. It's not they are doing it because they are having fun.

If you want to read something different in short stories I'll surely recommend this to you. But if you are in a relationship, this book can increase your depression or possessiveness though😜😜. I thoroughly liked the attempt of this book. It portrays such complicated and unknown topics which are still kind of tabooed in India. Though if you have already read Stranger Trilogy and expecting that much from this book it won't touch that bar for sure. I loved the cover very much and also the simple language with dark complications.

Novoneel Chakraborty is one my favourite Indian authors. I read “The Stranger Trilogy” when I was in my high school. From then I started loving his style of storytelling. There were times when I have bought all his published books and read them in one go. The reason I love his books this much is because his way of narration. Also, I think the twists in his books are more logical and unpredictable.

This book Cheaters is far more distinctive from his previous books. It has totally 9 short stories which explores the hidden layers of the society. It rips off all the masks which we try to hide in the name of culture, tradition or whatever we name it as. Frankly, I was totally disappointed to know that this was a collection of short stories. But later I love this book over his other books. Basically, it discloses the unsaid desires of every human being from which they are walking out considering these topics are taboo. Everyone knows nothing in this world is constant right? Then how people could think that their partner’s feelings and desires should be the same always and there are some peoples who won’t bother about their fellow partner’s emotion. Okay, the topic is very sensitive which this book is discussing about. I truly enjoyed the story “The flight is on time” I feel, the other 8 stories are not so grippy as this one.

I’ll strictly recommend “Cheaters” to adults and the people who have broad mind to accept the controversy this book is bringing on.

When you will have this book, just by reading its summary on the back you will definitely get fascinated about the whole book. As per as it's cover the book is covered from thrill and will definitely succeed to place a place into your heart.

The book consist of nine stories of different peoples and as per perspective of book's title all the stories are about cheating on their partners and others. Some of the stories are so great that will stop you from putting book back like "The whore and the wife" ,"The flight is on time" and "Tomorrow is cloudy" .
The book content are sensitive and matured but the theory was very precisely picked up .There are many desires of ours that are hidden and that will be kept hidden in the name of honor, tradition, shame and reputation. The book try to reveal the misconception we created between love and lust also the content will put you and emotional ride.

The book reveal an intellectual maturity difference between being selfish and for looking own happiness. As per the author he never fails us to impress with his simplicity of words and sensible twists in his book. I would say I loved the concept of love and lust shown in our general livelihood and would definitely recommend to read it for once.

This book is a collection of nine short stories based on relationships. The language used is easy and the book length is around 195 pages.

As per the title, Cheaters , author had tried to convey what the person thinks when he cheat a person. It is very easy to call a person cheater but we never thought what made that person to cheat their partner. In short, author tried to show the point of view of the person who is a cheater in front of their partner. What can be the situation the person is going through, we never know. The book contains nine stories and the one which I like the most are :

🔥Tickets are Done
🔥The Vacation
🔥The Whore and The Wife
🔥The Flight is on Time

According to me, this is something unique from his other books which I read till now. Author tried to show that how at some point relationship becomes weak which make the other person as a  'cheater' . There can be other obstacles like society, family, beliefs, etc which force a person to stay in a toxic relationship and when once that person think to get free from that relationship, people call him as 'cheater' . Those who love to read short stories based on relationships will love these.

What makes people cheat? Is it Monotony? Need for adventure? Indifference? Or is it merely for thrill?

The book Cheaters by Novoneel Chakraborty is a brilliant collection of short stories where people stuck in different situations cheat...some emotionally and others physically. It had been in my to-be-read pile for a while now, and boy, am I glad to have finally completed it.

My favourite is the first one, that sets the tone for the entire book. Titled 'Tickets are done', it is about a housewife who opts for a week away from the city where her husband and child live, to be with a man she met online only to fill the void in her life. I don't know about the character in the story, but the end surely made me feel helpless for her.

Novoneel's understanding of a woman's psyche is simply amazing. Read the book for proof!

Sensitively Mindblowing ... a very rare combination.

Novoneel manages to infuse a very high level of intellectual maturity in the writing of these quant short stories. The nature of the stories is very diverse. The subject matter very sensitive. And the treatment of the sensitive subject is very mature.

I have just now handed over this book to a dear friend with the warning that there is dangerously mature stuff inside. Can have long term permanent irreversible effects in your mind and in your heart.

I would blindly pick up other works of Novoneel with the assumption that he has shown equal skill in writing those.

These nine short stories are experimental and complex, much like modern-day relationships. Some were really good while the others were average. Some changed my opinion and some helped me in realising things in a better way. All in all, it will be a book that I will cherish my entire life. Few stories will tell you about the women fantasies, while others left a mark on your mind when you think about why anyone's cheat. The stories are dark and narrated very well. Overall it was 👍.

This is a collection of 9 short stories which explore the other side of love. I always had high expectations from Novoneel Chakraborty and he didn’t disappoint me this time as well. All the stories were approx. 25 pages long. Some were really good while the others were average. Some changed my opinion and some helped me in realizing things in a better way. All in all, it is a book to look forward to.

An interesting take on cheating. Stories that go deep into human psyche in its barest most vulnerable form. Sometimes difficult to take the truth that comes with the stories but stories they are. They don't just brush the surface. They scythe through the most hardened layers and rip open a pandora's box.

Quick read but a book which is not to be missed.

This is definitely not my go-to novel but still i gave it a try. These nine stories revolve around extramarital affairs and hidden sexual desires. It's more of an erotica than a romance novel. Despite of all other lustrous part in the story, the emotional side of each characters stood out.Personally, i liked "The whore and the wife".
