The attraction between Brent Berkheimer and Scott Spearman peels the wallpaper, but Brent is Scott’s boss, and they’re both too professional to go beyond flirting. Their priorities realign after Scott is badly injured in an accident that costs him his hearing, and Brent realizes what is truly important… he wants Scott.
Scott pushes Brent away at first, fearing a new romance will just add to his problems, but perhaps he will find unexpected strength and solace in Brent’s support as he struggles to communicate with the world in a new way.
Just as they decide the chance of a happy future together is worth the risk, Scott and Brent discover darker challenges in their way—including evidence that the “accident” Scott suffered may not have been so accidental.
Again, this is Andrew Grey. He is a automatic buy for me. The story was great, of course. What I like about Andrew's writing is that his characters seem like real people with real problems. They are not super hero's, or perfect people. His stories might wind you up and get a bit tense with suspense, but he always lets you down easy and leaves you with a contented smile.
I have a huge weakness for survivor stories. There's just something about reading about people who overcomes travesties, and come out stronger on the other end. I'm always in awe, and am amazed of their strengths.
Heart Unheard is that slow-burn romance that Grey is known for. Brent and Scott have been in love with each other for years. But the age difference and the fact that they worked with each other, along with mutual fear kept them from acknowledging those feelings. Then Scott was the victim of a hit and run, causing him to lose his hearing. The accident brings the two men closer, but trying to navigate a new reality isn’t always easy.
I loved how realistic this book was. This was a story I could believe in. No miracle cures or instant fixes. Nor were there any OTT or unnecessary drama. Sure maybe Scott accepted his new reality a bit quickly, but then again who am I to judge how long or how people deal with adversity? I also loved how all Scott’s friends and family truly were friends and family, the support they offered were limitless and just wonderful.
Greg Tremblay once again shows why he's one of my absolute favourite narrators. The way he portrayed these characters were spot on, the feelings of the characters, or the mechanical, toneless reading of the tablet. It was all just perfect. But then I never expected anything else. Anything Tremblay narrates is pure gold in my book.
Heart Unheard was a sweet addition to the Hearts Entwined series, and Greg Tremblay did a fantastic job bringing Andrew Grey's words come alive. It was a low angst and feel good novel and I'm hoping there will be more books in this series in my future.

Heart Unheard is a light May/December romance between garage manager Brent and Scott, a mechanic at the garage, who ends up in an accident which results in him losing his hearing.
Brent has been interested in Scott for years but has not done anything about it due to the whole boss/employee relationship and also being worried about their age difference.
But once the accident happens Brent steps forward, stops being a wussy about the whole thing, and realizes life is too short not to go for what you really want.
Told in a dual third person POV, it was nice to get both Scott and Brent's thoughts on their relationship and to see how frustrating life was for Scott after the accident and how patient and loving Brent was throughout it all.
This was a nice afternoon read with some heat and a very sweet HEA.
4.5 stars rounded down because still no 1/2 stars here on GR and I liked this book a bit more than the first one which was 4 stars for me so 4.5 stars reflective of that.
As much as I liked the first book this one was just as good...maybe, a tiny bit better...
Brent Berkheimer and Scott Spearman have been flirting with each other for a while now and it's not gone unnoticed by more than a few people but Brent's determined not to act on his feelings because it just wouldn't be fair...he's Scott's boss, he's a lot older...so as far as Brent's concerned when it comes to Scott...the man is strictly hands off.
Scott's tried...he's flirted and done is best to let Brent know that he's definitely interested in more than an employer/employee relationship but so far it's gotten him nowhere.
When a hit and run accident leaves Scott seriously injured Brent's forced to re-evaluate what's truly important to him making him realize that what's truly important to him is lying in a hospital bed and Brent decides that he's done denying what matters the most and while it may be too late for him and Scott, he's still going to be there for him...even if it's only as a friend, if that's what Scott wants and needs then that's what Brent's going to be for him.
There's more to Scott's accident than it seems at first and Brent's got his own demons to battle if he wants to be the man that he thinks Scott deserves. It's not all smooth sailing as Scott has to learn how to live without his hearing and in spite of how strong and dependable Brent's been Scott's got his doubts about how long Brent will stay around if he doesn't get his hearing back and Brent's battling his own self-doubts about whether or not he can be what Scott needs leaving both men felling insecure about whether or not they can last no matter how much they want each other. It's going to take some tough love from their family and friends to make then each see that the heart wants what the heart wants and it's just going to take a leap of faith for them to be together.
I loved Brent and Scott and seeing them finally give in to their feelings for each other as they worked through finding ways to communicate with each other now that Scott can't hear. Getting to know each other and understand each other isn't an easy task when being able to talk and hear what the other is saying gets removed from the equation.
I loved that Brent didn't try to just step in and do things for Scott, instead he encouraged Scott to speak up for himself and keep his independence and if he needed to he stood up for Scott's right to retain his independence even going to far as to bring in friends who understood what Scott was going through...that's right he brought in the big guns and we got to see Trevor and James...no, neither of these men are deaf but James knows what it's like to suddenly loose one of his senses. James lost his sight when he was about 12 years old and he remembers what it's like to be able to see and then lose his sight...he knows what it's like to have something and then lose it, to grieve for the loss and James also knows that sometimes as a friend you have to end the pity party and hand out some tough love if you really want to help the people you care about.
Scott's parents added an interesting dynamic to this story for me. As a parent while I could understand his mother's desire to shelter and protect him, I was equally as frustrated by the fact that she viewed his decision to learn sign language and get on with his life as a deaf person as giving up because the doctors didn't know for sure that the deafness was permanent, whereas I viewed it as Scott dealing with what was and what he was given to deal with. I would have been far more bothered by things if Scott had decided he was going to do nothing and wait to see if his hearing came back...seriously? How long should he wait and what was he giving up on? For me he was choosing not to waste his time waiting for something that might never happen when at worst if he got his hearing back while he was learning sign language, he'd still have another skill that he could always use. Thankfully Scott had a support system in his friends who saw this as being a positive choice on Scott's part.
I'm not sure what's coming next in this series but I'm really looking forward to finding out. So far the stories have really worked for me, giving me characters and stories that wrap themselves around my heart and make me smile at the strength of the characters I'm introduced to.

An audio book of 'Heart Unheard' was graciously provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Once again Andrew Grey provides a gentle romance. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Andrew Grey excels at writing sweet, relatively low angst love stories.
Heart Unheard is a light May/December romance between garage manager Brent and Scott, a mechanic at the garage, who ends up in an accident which results in him losing his hearing.
Brent has been interested in Scott for years but hasn't done anything about it due to the whole boss/employee relationship and also being worried about their age difference.
But once the accident happens Brent steps forward, ready to stop being a wussy about the whole thing, after realizing life's too short not to go for what you really want.
Told in a dual third person POV, it was nice to get both Scott and Brent's thoughts on their relationship and to see how frustrating life was for Scott after the accident and how patient and loving Brent was throughout it all. I love Greg Tremblay's character voices and the way he really brings the characters to life, imbuing them with so much emotion. As always, Tremblay is spot-on with timing and pacing. But the real plus for me was how engrossing the story was.
My only teeny-tiny complaint is the way some of the text/note portions were read. They were a bit stilted to me. I prefer texts to be read in a narration as though the character was actually speaking. However, that's a personal preference and I know not everyone feels that way, and it in no way impacted the overall pleasure this was to listen to.
This was a lovely weekend listen spiced up with some heat and a very sweet HEA.
Workplace romances are usually not a good idea, but when the attraction is strong enough that it lasts for two years – well, sometimes an exception has to be made. But Scott and Brent have barely started even acknowledging their attraction, when a horrific accident causes Scott to lose his hearing. Scott withdraws, but Brent only grows more determined to see where their attraction can lead. What follows is a turbulent mess, what with the conflicted men trying to get their bearings, a very touching romance between them, and the slowly emerging fact around the real reasons for the “accident” that was anything but chance misfortune. I am not sure what I liked most about this novel. It’s probably the combination of everything... especially the deeply emotional love story that unfolds once Scott and Brent admit their true feelings.
This was a silent book. I liked how Andrew slowly developed Brent and Scott's relationship. Sweet and adorable. Brent 8s definitely a boyfriend material!
> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < Another bland colored cover that I would probably pass up due to it not catching my eye. Luckily, this title was part of a promo newsletter from the publisher and the synopsis would readily available to catch my attention. > > Looking Deeper < < POV ~> Third Person
Brent had been attracted to Scott since the first day he took on the office manager's position at one of Trent's shops. (See HEART UNSEEN for more details.) Even though Trent gave his best friend his blessing to pursue a relationship with the younger mechanic so long they remained professional during business hours, Brent worried about the age gap and boss/employee aspects too much to make a move. Then a horrific accident occurred and the men came to realize that life's too short to limit themselves to the flirtations they've shared for the past two years. Brent had a few issues from his past to work out. Scott had some people in his past best left avoided. Together they had a sweet chemistry that had just enough heat. The secondary cast was wide-ranged. There were enjoyable characters and those that were purposefully dislikable. Some were amazingly supportive, others were stifling and suffocating. It was a cast full of variety and they all interacted well. The dialogue was smooth and natural. The plot was engrossing. There were some conflicts; some were fully resolved, others will remain a work in progress. Predictability was low. The conclusion is solid and satisfying enough for the couple's HEA, but I wish we'd have gotten better closure on Scott's case and outcome of the driver. I'd be interested in discovering if Brent took James' suggestion regarding a Penny-like addition for Scott (trying to stay spoiler-free here). This story continues (timeline) where Heart Unheard leaves off and the reader would benefit greatly if the books are read in order since Trevor and James are quite significant secondary cast members in this book and their story continues in the background of Brent and Scott's story. . Scott has had a crush on his boss for years, but the older man doesn’t seem to return his flirting so he bites his tongue and enjoys their time together at work. Brent, in the meantime, feels the same way about Scott, but he’s the boss so he’d never act on his crush because it wouldn’t be appropriate. Plus, the age gap bothers him, so he keeps his attraction to himself. Until Scott is severely injured in an accident and Brent can no longer keep quiet. Realizing he almost lost the young man before they had a chance to explore possibilities, he makes sure Scott is aware of his interest.
But it may be too late because Scott has lost his hearing due to the head injury he suffered in the crash, and he doesn’t see himself the same way as he used to. He doesn’t want to be a burden to anyone, least of all Brent.
In this audiobook edition, Greg Tremblay brought the characters to life. Both men had distinctive voices and I liked the way Greg managed Scott’s voice—just the right volume and intonation to indicate someone who can’t hear himself speaking. He also gave a variety of voices to the secondary characters, including Scott’s (sometimes overbearing) mother. Thankfully, he didn’t give her a wicked-witch voice as many other narrators may have done.
Most of the story revolves around trying to determine who hit Scott, since the car hasn’t shown up at any of the auto repair shops. Of course, since Scott and Brent both work at a mechanic’s shop they can easily question their peers about the car, but it isn’t until an accidental sighting by someone picking up a part at another garage that the situation comes to a head.
There’s also back story on Scott’s ex-friends from his church group, all of whom have turned their back on him when one of them lied about Scott making a pass at him. And there’s quite a bit of interaction between Scott and James, the blind character from Heart Unseen, who helps Scott adjust to life with his new disability.
And, of course, this is Andrew Grey, who is such a sweetheart that it always shows through in his work, so readers know going into this that it will have life lessons, foolish choices by some characters, and finally, a HEA for two very deserving young men. I definitely recommend this one in audio format. It’s a great way to spend a day, a commute, or a relaxing weekend.

Heart Unheard is book two in Andrew Grey's Heart's Entwined series. I adored book one so very much. It was brilliant and I was so excited to see that the series had another book. Andrew is tackling the senses.
In book one we had Trevor, a beautiful man who pretty much got everything and everyone he wanted based on his looks falling for James... A blind guy! It was so well done. In Heart Unheard we have a different situation. Brent manages one of Trevor's garages. Scott works for him as a mechanic. Brent has lusted after Scott for a long time and Scott has done the same. But the boss, employee thing was something neither thought about crossing.
Until a horrific accident takes Scott's hearing away. What was amazing was how the author showed just how difficult it would be for those around Scott to communicate with him. No one knowing ASL, all took advantage that they could shout from another room to grab his attention. Now, they resort to writing on pads and they all have to learn the language. On top of that, Scott's apprentice is blind so he has to tackle how to make that work too. It was a lot and I felt everyone's frustration.
Then as if that wasn't enough, someone is trying to harm Scott and Brent is suffocated from ghosts of Guilt's past. Both of these guys fight so hard to get to their happily ever after and it isn't easy. I'm glad it wasn't because it wouldn't be believable if it was. I love this series so much! A must read.
I received a copy to read and review for Wicked Reads
This was a sweet story and a sweet romance. Scott and Brent have been dancing around each other for years. Brent is older than Scott and doesn't think he would be interested. Brent's boss and friend tells Brent to basically pee or get off the pot. Well, the day that Brent decides he is going to Scott is in a horrible car accident. Scott is deaf from the accident, which is horrible and traumatic but Brent is right there by his side the whole way. Communication is hard but it doesn't bother Brent, he wants a relationship with Scott no matter what. These two deal with some difficult things and they are so perfect for each other. I love how Scott finally stands up for himself not only with his parents but with the bullies from his church. This book gave me the feels....there is still true love out there. When Brent does something extra special to tell Scott he loves him I balled my eyes out, so flipping sweet. Highly recommend.
I prefer the first book. Here is VERY CLEAR that the characters are in love since the page 1. For me, that takes the interest away from the love story... and so soon we have Scott's accident and then the book is about Scott and his personal growth. I find some parts interesting, but like I say, the romance is totally overshadow by Scott's new circustance and I lost the interest in the last part of the book.
Note: Please I want Dean story <3 !! His character could be very interesting but I hope he is having a slow and difficult relationship! No easy things please! He deserves a little of fightng for it! xD
A sweet, age-gap/workplace romance featuring a guy who is injured in a car accident and loses his hearing as a result. The narration is fabulous (of course!) and the characters are likeable... it's sweet and low-angst, which is typical AG. I preferred book one, but this was a decent listen.
Heart Unheard by Andrew Grey picks up where book two in the Heart Entwined series, Heart Unseen, leaves off and is a conundrum of hurdles to be crossed.
Be it cowardice, age, misunderstanding, communication, disabilities, or other individuals, the journey for these gents is never a dull one and the attraction between them is scorching.
Brent Berkheimer is the manager at the auto shop where Scott works and since day one he has had a crush on Scott, but because of his self-proclaimed cowardice has never acted upon it. He uses their age difference and the fact that he is Scott’s boss as a shield.
Scott Spearman is the talented auto mechanic that befriends Lee, a blind mechanic introduced to us in Heart Unseen. Scott has just turned 20, has eyes for Brent, and issues that darken his past.
Brent and Scott have been silently dancing with each other for the past two years. The dance is obvious to those around them but each can’t see the reality between them.
It takes tragedy striking to bring these men together in a smoldering and sweet entanglement.
There is enough angst and intrigue to capture our attention. The supporting cast is weaved into a plot that flows effortlessly with support, humor, and variety. Trevor and James from Heart Unseen play a major part so it is recommended to read this delightful series in order.
Andrew Grey's Hearts Entwined collection is a series with love and companionship that focuses on the heart and not the disability. Both books in the series grab your attention pulling you in. The characters exhibit expected emotions as you effortlessly connect with them.

Heart Unheard is Book 2 in Andrew Grey's Hearts Entwined series. I would definitely recommend you start at the beginning with this series. This book does not really have an introduction of characters, but gets right to it, and if you haven't read the first one, I don't think you're going to enjoy that as much. We met Brent in the first book, and learned about the mutual crush he and Scott had on each other. And, at first, Brent isn't willing to act on that crush. There are various reasons, he's his boss, he's older than Scott, and Brent's often repeated claims that he's a coward. When Scott is seriously injured in an accident, Brent realizes that it's time to step up to the plate. Scott is injured in a car wreck and his life changes when he loses his hearing.
I liked Brent and Scott, and was happy to see Trevor and James' from book 1 be prominent characters in this story. Throughout this story, you expect Scott's story to be heartbreaking, and it was, but I was taken by the heartbreaking incident from Brent's childhood that has weighed on him all these years. He constantly called himself a coward and I just didn't understand why he thought so, until he finally shared his story. And I felt so bad for the teenage Brent that's lived with that and the pressure he's put on himself. Scott was a happy go lucky character, and even though he had his struggles with acceptance, his personality and outlook in life helped him. I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to lose my hearing as an adult, and I thought the author did a great job with how he portrayed this. Before the accident, Scott was a very happy guy, who always had a smile. Though we saw cracks in Scott's happiness, he was able to overcome his new challenges.
With the subject matter and outcome, this book could have been over the top angsty but it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, it was sad, and some parts were horrifying, but it didn't weigh me down into a sobbing mess. I was completely taken by surprise when everything was revealed regarding Scott's accident. I absolutely did not expect that outcome and was equal parts shocked and horrified.
This was a well-written story that engaged your emotions and heart. The characters are engaging and full of life and it was easy to fall into this story. I was looking forward to Brent and Scott's story since I read the first book and it didn't disappoint! This is a series you must read! And it's an Andrew Grey book so you know it's full of heart, emotions, love, family, and friends.
Ok so, this one is part of the Hearts Entwined series.., but, Trevor, from Heart Unseen and James? I swooned with them! This one though, is about Brent, from Trevor’s garage and a much younger Scott… a much younger Scott that he’s had feelings for, for the last two years. How terrible that would be, to want somebody for so long and have to be around them and see them but not have them how you want to.
Because of the age gap and being Scotts boss, he keeps his distance and doesn’t act on his feelings, which he regrets when Scott is involved in a hit and run accident that left him not only severely injured but also, deaf. Their back and forth was a little exhausting because now all the sudden Brent makes it known that he cares about Scott but Scott is trying to learn to be okay with living with a disability. I cant imagine how hard that would be to lose a major sensory like that. Scott is young and it shows a lot in some of the things he says or the way he acts… Brent didn’t seem to mind though.
What I loved was, once they got their heads out and started to give their attraction for each other a real try was all the support they got. Scotts mom and dad; Brents mom and then all the guys from work. It was nice to see so many people standing behind them, pushing for them to be happy. I also really hope Dean is next story. I feel for him because who hasn’t’ been in a situation like his. I want him to be happy, he deserves it. He was such a good friend to Brent and then once he met Scott, him too.
What I didn’t like was the old friends, Spencer and Marshall and whoever the other guy was. Im not sure what happened with them, but I would hope that they’d both be in a lot of trouble. Karma, man…. I needed that karmic justice that showed Marshall going to prison forever and Spencer getting a taste of his own medicine. The way they talked to and about Scott was unforgivable….. and what Marshall done was more unforgivable…. Then we have that bigoted cop… what happened with all that? I needed retribution, man! Vengeance! Revenge! Anything! I’m a terrible person like that. I needed the closure I felt like and Scott and Brent deserved it. Scott especially!
Anyway, other than that, I loved the story… it was exhausting and somewhat angsty, but it was all worth it in the end.
4 stars from me!
*I received this story in the promise of an honest and unbiased review*
Rating: 4 stars I am really glad that Brent got his own story. I love all the characters in this series. It was good to read about Trevor and James again. I really loved Brent and Scott has a couple. I got a bit frustrated with Brent at times, but once the trauma he went through as a child was explained his thoughts and actions made perfect sense. I really felt sorry for Scott. I just couldn't imagine going through the sudden loss of hearing and having to deal with learning a new way to interact with those around you. I loved how he had the support of his friends and family.
I think my biggest complaint with the book would be the reveal behind the reason for Scott's accident. I pretty much predicted it. I also would have liked the author to go into to more detail with what the fallout was for the persons involved. I think a bit more closure would have been nice.
I highly recommend this series and this book in particular. I don't think you need to read the first book in the series to enjoy this one, but I recommend it because it was a good book and you get Trevor and James's story. I am really hoping Mr. Grey continues this series with either Lee or Dean's story next.
Though the conflict is a good addition to the plot it isn't as strong as I’d have liked it to be. Still, Heart Unheard is a good read and I enjoyed the sensitivity Brent shows in helping Scott get through his accident and dealing with being deaf as he struggles to put his life back together. Brent is patient, always has a pad handy and is attuned to Scott’s feelings. Those moments are sweet. http://thetbrpile.weebly.com/reviews/...
I'm sorry, but Scott gets in a MVA and his in critical condition and Brent is being all whiny and feeling sorry for himself because he never made a move on Scott. Maybe if I had read this right after having read the first one, I'd have felt differently, but there was too much time and too many books between this and the first one, so I'm fuzzy on the details and if I liked Brent in the first book at all, I just can't deal with him in this one.
Brent seems to have lots of reasons to stay silent but when he almost loses Scott he speaks up. You see how much fear he holds despite his apparent strength. Scott is allowed to show his grief for his loss while also showing his strength to move on. They are there for each other.
Andrew Grey is quite a new author to me, the only other book I’ve read by him was the first book of this series, Heart Unseen, which I really enjoyed. Although Heart Unheard is part of the series and involves some characters that were introduced in the first book, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone without any problems.
The story focuses on the main characters, Brent and Scott. Brent is the manager of one of the garage’s that his friend Trevor owns, and Scott is one of the mechanics that has worked there for a few years. Brent has had a crush on Scott for about two years, but he’s been too scared to act on it. One reason is because there’s around a ten-year age difference between them, and Brent thinks that Scott wouldn’t be interested in an “old” man when he could probably have anyone he wanted. The other reason is that Brent is Scott’s boss, and even though Trevor has already told him it would be okay with him, he’s made up his mind that it wouldn’t be professional to have a relationship with someone he works with and who he’s supposed to manage day-to-day. Scott is also attracted to Brent. He spends his days sneaking glances, flirting with him and trying to get Brent to make a move, but it never happens, no matter how hard he tries.
When Scott is involved in a car accident and loses his hearing as result of it, Brent becomes his strength and support. But Brent also realises just how much Scott means to him, and what he almost lost when the accident happened, which forces him to make a decision. Brent stays by Scott’s side the whole time and tells Scott how he feels, but Scott thinks that Brent is just taking pity on him now that he knows his life will be completely changed because he can’t hear anymore. With a lot of persistence and perseverance, Brent proves to Scott that what he feels now is what he’s felt for a long time. Scott begins to accept that his hearing loss will only hold him back if he lets it, but with the love and support of the people around him, he’ll be just fine.
When an old friend from Scott’s past appears on the scene and starts causing some problems, Scott has to deal with memories and people he’d rather forget. But this time he’s at the disadvantage of having a new disability that he’s trying to learn to cope with. Luckily, Brent has his back and will never let anything or anyone get to Scott again.
This was another really enjoyable story with great characters. I’m so happy that Brent and Scott finally saw sense and got together because they were just so good for each other, and their reasons for not being together were just stupid *sticks out tongue*. The plot kept me really interested the whole way through, and the pace felt just right, nothing seemed too rushed or played out. I would like to have known more about the outcome of the “accident” as that part felt a little unfinished, but it didn’t affect the book too much, plus the ending was adorable, so I was really happy anyway. I’m hoping and kinda begging that we get a book for Dean next, I think he has a story that needs to be told.
***The ARC was provided by Dreamspinner Press. My review is an honest opinion of the book ***
Andrew Grey delivers another touching, heart felt story that embraces a character with a disability that really doesn’t define the person or the relationship. I love his ability to empower characters and bring love to everyone and this book is another great example of that storytelling. Heart Unheard is the story of Brent and Scott, two co-workers with crazy chemistry but both a little afraid of acting on it since they work together. When Scott is in an accident that changes his life, it’s time for Brent to step up and be the man Scott really needs.
I loved these two – right from the start – their adorable flirting got my attention right from the start. These two have undeniable chemistry but age and work seem to keep them apart, that is until Scott is in an accident that leaves him deaf. Brent doesn’t know how to react other than to be there for Scott and show him what he should have all along, that he really does matter to him. Their budding relationship has challenges, Scott is trying to come to terms with his new life and Brent wants to make his real feelings known. But these two work it out. And oh what a journey to that point!
Scott struggles for sure, what a shock to have to adapt to, the silence, but he does and he does it with strength. He is determined to take his life back and he’s finding he’s determined to do it with Brent. Brent wants his real feelings to be known, not just pity, but his deep love for Scott. I loved seeing these two navigate through their challenges as well as the sweet moments to find that love together. This is a touching story, one that went straight to the feels and will stay with me. It’s not about the ability or disability but the love and finding the way through the challenges life can throw at you. Heart Unheard is another great example of why Andrew Grey is a must read for me!
Heart Unheard by Andrew Grey – Review by Dawn Honeycutt 4 Stars
Heart Unheard is the second novel in the Hearts Entwined Series and finds us back at the auto repair shop owned by Trevor who we get to know in the first book.
Brent Berkheimer is the manager of Trevor auto repair shop and has had a crush on Scott Spearman for a couple of years. Scott is a mechanic at the shop and has had a similar crush on Brent, but neither man acted on their feelings. Brent told himself that he couldn’t make a move on Scott because Scott was too young and because he’s Scott’s boss.
Everything changes when Scott is in a terrible car accident and suffers a head injury that causes him to lose his hearing. Brent runs to be by Scott’s side and is there for him through his hospital stay and recovery. Both men learn to navigate through Scott’s new life as a person who cannot hear.
I liked this book. I love the characters from the first book and the new ones that come in. The men in the garage are all great. Trevor and James seem very settled and happy in their life together and that’s wonderful to read. But all through the book as I’m rooting for Brent and Scott, I cannot help but think “why now?” Why did it take an accident for either man to make a move? Brent seemed to be the one who really held back while they worked together before the accident and I get that sometimes it takes something big to shake us up, but he was still Scott’s boss after the accident. Scott was still younger. All of the reasons Brent had for keeping his distance were still there. I like the HEA and I’m happy these two found a way to work through Scott’s disability, I just feel like that piece of the story held me back from really loving the book.
Andrew Grey is such an amazing author. I read "Heart Unseen" and now I have had the privilege of reading "Heart UnHeard". This was an incredible book about learning to deal with a disability that one never expects to have to deal with. Yes Scott is mad about it happening to him but in reality he accepted it pretty well and did not give up or give in. Thatbis very inspiring.
Brent has been in love with Scott for a couple of years now but he never made a move for a couple of reasons. One he is Scott's boss and did not want to take advantage of that. Two he is older then Scott. Three, he does not feel worthy of him and honestly he is scared of being rejected by Scott. In other words, he was just plain scared and could not get past that.
After Scotts accident and not knowing if he is going to live or die, Brent realizes that life is too short and he needs to man up if Scott makes it through this.
Scott did make it but he will forever be changed. In the accident Scott lost his hearing. So now Scott is scared that no one will ever love him. But that is just not the case. Brent could care less if he can heat or not. What is important is the fact that Brent has a second chance o finally he hiney with Scott on how he feels.
Just when these two start to finally get their footing with one another, an explosive truth about Scott's accident comes to light. Now Brent has to be strong for Scott and Scott had to know for sure if this was an accident or if it was done one purpose.
This was such an emotional read. There is a twist of mystery too it so that makes this read so much better. I look forward to seeing what Andrew comes up with next in the future.

We first meet our guys (Brent and Scott) at work. Brent is Scott’s boss, and is older. The two men are just about professional enough to keep their sizzling encounters to just flirting. Scott thinks he’s given Brent the go-ahead, but Brent’s never taken Scott up on the unspoken offer. All that changes when Scott is badly injured in a car wreck. Brent eventually decides life is too short to miss chances to embrace happiness.
Scott can’t believe Brent is there as he recovers in hospital, but knowing he will never be whole again, he pushes Brent away. There is plenty of to and fro, drama and intrigue and a huge amount of growth in the men as they find their way to happiness.
Brent shows himself to be so strong over and over, but has his own demons to fight. Watching the two men come to terms with themselves as they try to let each other in, and build something together is a beautiful thing.
The supporting characters are so endearing, that I now need to enjoy their stories too!
I adored this story, and Greg Tremblay’s masterful narration makes it all the more enjoyable. His characterisation is perfect, and his emotion is so tangible that he brought me to tears more than once! This is a wonderfully sweet and charming story that deals so beautifully with disability and love. The epilogue is so sweet my teeth hurt. Perfect!
This is a book two in Hearts entwined series. It can stand alone but if you read them in order you understand the other recurring characters much more. Brent has been interested in Scott since he took over the office position in his friend Trent's Garage (This happens in Heart Unseen). Scott is a lot younger than Brent and also his boss so he hasn't acted on his feelings. It has been two years and he just keeps wanting Scott more and more, and Scott's flirtations don't help. Tragedy strikes leaving Scott deaf and Brent decides he has waited long enough and to take a chance.
There is lots of angst, trials, and tribulations as Scott struggles with his new disability and they both try to make the relationship work. There is a twist when it comes out who hit Scott.
The narration was lovely and well fitting with the story. The pacing is good and you can tell who is speaking. Ar first I thought it was choppy until I realized that was how the narrator was making it known the characters were writing or signing.
If you like office romance, Boss/employee, physically challenged, and May/December you will love this.
Wonderful characters ! Milwaukee, WI. Brent, 32, boss at the mechanic shop, and Scott, 22, a mechanic, like each other, flirt, and never act on it for a few reasons. It seems like it's time to act, and then, a severe car accident nearly kills Scott. It scares everyone, and it's difficult and emotional. It'll be a long healing process.
Scott's folks and Brent are taking care of Scott, supporting him all the way. They are all going to take ASL classes, too. The big question, who would have done such a thing? We watch the tough situations, but we also see the love grow between our guys. Later, they have hot sexy times that are amazing.
Decisions are made, needs are expressed and issues are worked out. We get an excellent wrap up, reveal the horrible character who caused this, and the epilogue is terrific.
Ugh, I didn't like this book. I kept thinking as I listened to the audio that it could easily be edited down to a two hour listen, cover all the major points, and be more satisfying. OR it could be much longer and delve into some of the issues in more depth. I don't want to spoil this book for anyone who may be interested in reading/listening to it, but it just isn't realistic. Scott's deafness isn't covered well, the angst over a mysterious cowardly past is not realistic (years of therapy and the fact that as a kid Brent did exactly what he was told and he still can't see rationalize his feelings in his thirties, really?), Scott's parents subjecting him to a church, even as an adult, that condemns him, yet he and Brent can hold hands and snuggle on the couch together, desperate men who are victims of their restrictive childhoods and act out to mask any trace of who they really are. And it was all so predictable - sigh. I need to take a break from Andrew Grey for a while.
I'm going to have to admit that this story would have gotten a 4.5 rating if it were allowed. The first chapter I found was very rushed, a lot of information and I felt that it could have been drawn out to at least two chapters to better get a grip on what was going on. That being said the rest of the novel was polished and perfect as expected from Andrew Grey. You can understand the characters and what they're going through easily, the transition from one character to another is flawless and it's easy to invest in the story.
