I loved the series Virgin River on Netflix, really hate to admit that as an avid reader of several genres of books I had never read anything by Robyn Carr before. Immediately when I finished binge -watching the series, I looked up and ordered the 1st box set. Read them in two days non-stop. Could NOT put them away!!!! Just finished the next box-set and once again I laughed and cried happily through it!!! I'm hooked by these characters and my new favorite author. Highly recommended to anyone looking for great experiences to head to Virgin River!!!!
Books 5-7.5 from the Virgin River series are in this second Collection. Second Chance Pass: Vanessa and Paul’s relationship. We meet their BFF’s, Nicki who flew with Vanessa and Joe, the architect Paul’s company uses. There is chemistry between these two. Paige and Preacher’s daughter is born. Paige’s past comes forth. Is Shady Dan a good guy or a bad guy?
Temptation Ridge: We meet Luke Riordan the first of five brothers. As the older he has just finished his twenty in the navy. He and one of his brothers bought the cabins by the river. Luke is in charge of the rehab of these cottages. Shelby, the general’s niece has moved to Virgin River as she contemplates her future. She has sold the house she and her mother lived in and settled all of her mother’s accounts since she died. She and Luke start a little something. Hiding out in one of the cabins is Art, a thirty year old Down’s Syndrome man who was getting beat up at work and his group home. Luke takes him under his wing.
Paradise Valley: Rick is injured in Iraq. Jack and Liz fly to Germany to assess Rick’s injuries. This is one very mixed up boy/man. At twenty he is back in Virgin Rick with a medical discharge. So much for possible making the Marines his vocation. (Shady) Dan gets a job with Paul. He meets Cheryl and rents her family rundown house promising to fix it up for a cut in the rent. They start a very slow relationship as he heads her way to pay his rent. Cheryl cannot come back to Virgin River, sober now, it holds too many bad memories. Cameron ends up in a hotel bar after dinner with his colleagues while Abby very disgruntled with her life escapes Joe and Nicki’s wedding in the hotel bar. Neither know they have both Virgin River ties and know Vanessa and Paul. A surprise awaits these two. Muriel is on location in Wyoming and the general is so uncomfortable with the thought of visiting a movie set he almost ruins this relationship with Muriel. How lovely to have a woman in her fifties and a man in his sixties fall in love. Dan actually gets the credit to get Ricky out of his funk.
Under the Christmas tree: Annie grew up around Virgin River and is a farmer’s daughter. She owns her own hair salon in a neighboring town. While visiting Jack and surveying the Christmas tree Jack’s son David discovers newborn abandon puppies hidden under the tree. Jack’s is where these puppies will make it or not with all the regulars helping with puppy holding and bottle feeding. Nathaniel took over his father’s veterinary practice and comes to help Annie with the puppies. soon they are too big for Jack’s so they get moved to Nate’s practice. He talks about heading to the Bahama’s for Christmas with his study group from vet school. Bikini’s galore await him. But spending time with Annie is slowly changing his plans.
I gave all four of these books four stars. Always a pleasure to visit Virgin River, again.
I love a series that doesn’t abandon carters in the next book but brings the along to enjoy the ride. Characters are the most important part of any book and Robyn develops them them quite well. The events in Virgin River play out naturally and i find myself involved in the towns people, their lives and the towns place in the plot. Something i did not like was how some lines were dropped like the mayor and old doctors romance and remarriage, and the rescue of Paige glossed over. Jack the bar owner and unofficial mayor held the story line together until the Christmas book. I was looking forward to the next book until i found itscost above my price level.
I seemed to have forgotten that my Kindle is an Amazon product, so I was reviewing each book in Virgin River - Bundle 2, separately. So, this review will be about Book 8, Under The Christmas Tree.
Even though this story was short, I loved it. The characters were great. Annie and Nate were great together. He seemed to grow to love Annie in a short amount of time. And I loved the addition of the puppies. The puppies brought Annie and Nate together. And Chris, Preacher and Paige's son was so cute. He wanted a puppy so badly. He managed to pick the smallest of the 8. And I loved that they named the 8 puppies after Santa's reindeer.
This collection was very hard to put down. I love the way each novel contains several story lines, and a story line may span several books. Minor characters in early novels get their own story in later books.
My only complaint is about the Cameron and Abby story, where Abby ghosts Cam, despite Cam's efforts to find Abby. I was surprised Nikki didn't push Abby at all, as the Nikki and Joe story had Nikki avoiding Joe. Based on Nikki's experience, I expected at least one scene where Nikki tells Abby to talk with Cam.
This series of books spent too much time on sex scenes otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. More great characters and a real page turner except for the Christmas novella. In the last book it was boring and the characters from the other books in the series didn't feature except at the beginning and it just had nothing exciting about it.
I loved the first 4 books of The Virgin River series. The second 4 books are even better. Every time I return to Virgin River I feel like I'm home. The characters are so lifelike just like old friends. You will love these stories and want to read more. I don't want the series to end. On to book 9! Enjoy!
I love how the town residents takes care of each other. The men are so great taking care of their families. Mel and Jack are the perfect care takers of Virgin River.
Someone complained about the price, but you’re not just getting one book here, you’re getting multiple books, and I’ve been known to be more than $10 for just one of Robyn Carr’s books, because they’re all that good.
Absolutely great books. Much better than the series. Such detail. I liked that I could visualize the characters just so odd that some parts are so different. But definitely a page turner.
This series is amazing!! You can’t stop u til the end. And then you need more! Can’t wait until Netflix adds more episodes. I will read and them watch!!
I'm enjoying the story lines for the Virgin River series. I think it's great the way the main characters of each book tie in wit those of the previous ones..
Virgin River is a great series. I watched the first 2 seasons on Netflix and enjoyed reading the next books. The books put you right in their story. I couldn't wait to continue the stories. Jan
In true Virgin River fashion, this books makes you fall in love - with love and with the characters. It really helped getting me in the Christmas spirit.
Ok…while reading your first 2 volumes of the Virgin River Series, I have chuckled and occasionally laughed hysterically. Then I have read with tears rolling down my cheeks. Thank you for the well thought out stories of all the people who have become part of my heart…part of my fictional neighborhood. They have deeply touched me. I am better for you having introduced them to my life. Now on to volume 3 and more tears and laughs! 🥰😢😅
