Two months after what is now known as ‘The Proxy Incident’ has every chimera who was present during Elish’s discipline living in fear. Elish and Jade are taking great joy in personally crafting punishments for the family members that have wronged them, and without Silas to stop the two, they’re free to do whatever they want.
But though Jade has been having fun being involved in Elish’s plans, the more time that goes on, the more Jade realizes there is something wrong with his husband. Elish isn’t acting like his normal self, and not only that, Jade suspects that the new King of Skyfall is hiding something from him.
And far away from Skyfall, Reaver and Killian are both trapped in a distant land, with an unexpected third party. Not only do they have to try and make their way back to civilization in a land of mutated monsters and proxy worms, but Reaver finds himself drawn off of their planned path towards someone unknown: a suspected born immortal who has left them a trail of macabre bread crumbs.
Quil Carter has been writing stories since he learned how to write. Now that people seem to like his stories, this is pretty much what he is planning on doing with his life.
I don't know what it is about these books that has kept me hooked for the past 5 years. I think it is mostly the story itself: I am vested in the characters and I want to know what happens next. It is partly the dreadful dystopian world this author has created and the way he is completely unapologetic with taking this bleak future to its direst consequences. These books I'd classify as "dystopian horror" and I would warn that there's extreme violence and situations; that said I really, really enjoy reading about these characters, I love my buddy readers and enjoy the wild ride that is following Reaver and Killian, ELish and Jade in their mad world of scheming and violence and grey on grey. PLEASE HEED THE SPOILER TAGS AND DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET
When is part 2 out guys? I need to know what happens next like yesterday.
I don't know why I'm so fond of Big Shot...and it makes sense that he could misinterpret Jade's comment, but still- I still like him though.
Sanguine I don't care that he is doing horrible things. I love Sanguine. Hey, he's shaking things up and the ripples will bring a lot of interest to the Deker family. It' might be horrible interest, but at least things will never get boring. So I say Sanguine
Skye/Parrish
Reaver and Killian
Reaver Jerky...mwahaha
But all those other born immortals are interesting as hell, and I can't wait for more.
Elish and Jade Okay, I kinda fazed out during this one. Out of everything that has happened in this series, this part is fizzling on me. But then again, there is more to be told, so maybe it will hold my interest better next book.
Reno
Ending. Life and death cliff hanger--Really Quil?
I know that was a lot of gifs...but there are a lot of pages.
That ending was one of the biggest cliffhangers to date. So much has happened in this book that has left me with so many questions. Often I always know what is going to happen but this time, I have so many scenarios in my head about who this 'father' could be that I am too curious and impatient for the reveal!
I still have to finish 'from blood and ash' but I can't seem to take a break from the Fallocaused! I can't believe I only have two volumes left to read and then after almost 2 years, I've finally finished this series! Well… The series is still ongoing and a new companion's book will be out by then with how slow I'm reading. Not that I'm complaining.
If volume 2 doesn't start with Killian being in Ciel Tower among these new characters I'm curious about, then I'm going to scream! SCREAM!
One of my absolute favourite moments in the Fallocaust series has to be when Reaver, Killian, and Drake went on their little road trip (aka getting stranded in America 😂). It felt like a glimpse into Reaver and Killian’s future - going on adventures, exploring new places - and having Drake there was such an unexpected but perfect addition. Now I can’t imagine them without each other. They’re the cutest trio!
I’ll definitely do another review when I reread parts of this book again - probably soon, because let’s be honest, I can never stay away from Reav and Killi for long. They’re my comfort, my home, and I’m always missing home.

Look I love Elish as much as everyone else but I think he is going through something and I'm not loving it and I have my eye on him. 👁️ Jade is getting stronger every day and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Maybe if everyone was nice they wouldn't have to worry but noooo everyone wants to be a dick. Reaver is just... Reaver. Killian is somehow still Killian and he keeps talking about how he wants to change and yet he doesn't and I know I probably should give him a break because honestly his life has changed a lot in a short amount of time but like he really be getting 8 hrs of sleep a night and maybe he could use some of that time to learn some idk hand to hand combat with Reaver? Garrett. Fuck GARETT. Reno ugh my precious baby I just I love him so much he is too pure. Jack is again one of my least favorite because holy fuck he's just so... UGH. He really has so much hatred against Elish and I feel like I'm missing something.
I am so nervous about it. I am obsessing more and more about not having fresh reading material from Quil, so I am reading the books faster, and then the end comes faster! Agh!!
If you haven’t started reading this series, and enjoy things on the wild side, and aren’t a complete not nice person who ruins stuff for everyone else, read these books!! So completely amazing!!
The thing about relationships is that the ones that work best in real life would make for dull books.
Your typical happy relationship is stable. It's two people who adore each other, have personalities which compliment each other, and get along well. Your Jane and Bingley's, for example. We're not interested in seeing people be happy; we're interested in them finding an equilibrium.
The relationships that work best in books are chaotic and passionate. They're two people who love each other despite, or even because of, their differences. They're filled with bickering and fighting, and although we hope they eventually reach the stage where they can be happy and stable, it's the journey to that stage that interests us.
The great thing about Fallocaust- and one that's often misunderstood- is that it's as much about romance as anything else. By this point, longtime followers of the series have spent thousands of pages, and millions of words, getting to know these guys. We know what makes them tick, and every relationship is so different, and the characters themselves so wonderfully complex, that if they ever achieve equilibrium, it never stays stable for wrong. There's always some new complication, or a new disaster or a new adventure, which means that the characters and their relationships are tested again and again, and the characters have no choice but to roll with the punches, and hope that they emerge in one piece.
The book begins with the characters recovering from the events of The Suicide King- although I struggle to think of a less apt word, considering how few of the characters could be said to be doing well for themselves. Even those who, at first, appear to be thriving soon reveal themselves to be damaged to a horrifying extent. Moreover, the dynamics within the relationships themselves is shifting, with more submissive characters like Jade and Killian increasingly becoming more assertive, more self-centred characters like Reaver becoming more empathetic, more happy-go-lucky like Reno characters becoming depressed and jaded. Just when you might think you know everything there is to know about someone, they show a new side of themselves. Of course, with a cast of so many characters, it's only natural that some don't get the same level of focus, but it's never to the book's detriment. In fact, having read Volume Two already, and having made decent headway into volume three, I can safely say that Quil has once again exceeded himself, and this book is the best one in the series thus far.
I apologize for any spoilers, though I tried not to. Read at your own risk.
So QC released this book on April 27th and it immediately went into my queue, and then I stared at it for nearly a week, trying to prepare myself mentally and emotionally for the traumatizing ride I knew was ahead of me. QC, once again, did not disappoint. If it's been awhile since, it'll be helpful to crack the last few chapters of The Suicide King Vol.2 before you jump into this book. Since that's where this book picks up, with some nice easter eggs from Garden of Spiders. I mistakenly thought, I'd remember everything, but there's such a huge cast of characters that at points I was finding myself having to refer back to previous volumes for clarification. At least long time running television dramas and mangas/comic books give you a clip synopsis of all the important bullet points that will be reflecting on the current episode. Seriously starting to need that. QC's "Silent Ground" series also "officially" joins the Fallocaust world, so if you haven't read those, please do, I'm sure they are going to be super important now that our intrepid heroes have breached the walls of Skyfall, the Greywastes, and even the Plaguelands and have come to realize that they are not alone in this post-apocalyptic world. Though it's like the chimeras back home weren't even phased by the Proxy Incident and their infighting continues. But really, how else are you going to spend eternity if you don't keep yourself amused? So many new plot developments, allusions to plot developments, new characters, and a whole new world of hurt just waiting to boil over. This series isn't just "slightly good" it's more amazing that just about anything I've come across. In the months that had past since the last QC novel I read, I seriously missed his storytelling voice. I'm super happy that volume 2 and 3 will be out shortly. Love you QC!
I'm such a nerdy fan for this series. Which is why it hurts me to rate this book so low. I know its only the 1st part of 3 but it just rubbed me the wrong way in almost every chapter. It was 5 stars until I still love the couple tho since they are my fav couple but I just couldn't get around that.
Then it droped to 3 stars when But im still hopping to watch Silas suffer (Alot, and very slowly and painfuly).
And the final thing that made me lower to only 2 stars was
I'm not dropping this amazing series because of 1 bad book. I'm definetly going to buy book vol 2 and 3 no matter what. But if this keeps spiraling I'm not sure if I'm going to cut loose and morn an awesome series. Hopefully not. I really hope not...
It flew by! I can't believe that was 690 pages long.! For real. i'd bet it was 100 pages tops. I had more trouble getting through 150page books. I was pleased it wasn't as fucked up as I expected it to be. No rapes! Yay! Well if you put aside
the funniest thing is I'm still surprised and horrified over what those chimeras do. I bet the next one will be double fucked up lol Things keep getting interesting. New developments arise and I can't wait to read vol 2! Vol 3 is out so I don't have to worry about cliffhangers. Yay! The time is coming that they'll need to put their differences aside and unite. can't wait for that to happen ! Is war coming? Possibly.
I've decided that I won't rate this book. I'm extremely emotional when it comes to characters I like/hate and because of that my judgment is clouded and I don't wanna give this a bad rating because of my personal feelings. I also felt like it needed more but it's volume 1 of 3 so that's expected. 3 fucking volumes. I can already tell that I'll be an emotional wreck by the end of book 3. Now let's get to the regular part of a Quil Carter book review by yours truly, the ranting.
I fucking despise every.single.chimera minus Reaver, Jade & Elish(for now). I can literally count on 5 fingers the characters I still like which are Killian, Luca and the 3 I previously mentioned. I'm not the forgiving type and Lord knows I'll never forgive Nero, Silas and whoever tf else for what they did to my babies Killian and Reaver. NEVER!!!!!!!!! And how could I forget? That fucking Irish cunt and whoever his fucking leader is are added to my hate list as well. I find it hilarious how Silas is Lucifer reincarnated but he makes Sky treat him like a little bitch. Where is the ruthless Silas now??? Also fuck Reno! And fuck Garret for what he did to him! That son of a bitch acts all innocent and submissive but he's just like his fucking brothers and I hope his ass pays! Jade making Kessler pay by forcing his son to fuck him was the icing on top of the cake. And then he fucked up his brain so much he might as well be a child? Perfect. I can't wait to see his dad's reaction when he sees him again.
Idk wtf is going on with Elish but it needs to be fixed. Him beating Jade was a NO so rn it's 50% like and the other 50% dislike with him. I won't even get started on the fucking disaster known as Crow rn because those proxy worms seem to never fucking go away and I don't even wanna try to figure out what his plans are. Idk if it's just me but I'm starting to get really annoyed by the whole multiple pov's thing. Especially because it's mostly characters I can't fucking stand. But I guess it's good because that way we'll know everything that's happening so I have to live with it until I can't anymore. This was longer than expected so time to wrap it up. I literally just want my babies(Killian & Reaver) to be okay but once again they're not and here I am worrying/being terrified about what's gonna happen to them in that fucking tower.. Also all the other chimera's can choke and die permanently. I look forward to the next installment!

I did indeed give this book 3 stars but I’m still a die hard fan and will continue reading it and hoping Quil still has fallocaust up his sleeve for upcoming stories!
Sooooo I’m probably like the 5% that doesn’t like Jade.. but yeah I just don’t like him and I don’t see me liking him in the future. Elish, I actually don’t mind but him and Jade I don’t like. Even though Elish’s stories are with Jade or of Jade. I don’t like how Jade is “powerful” but I am hoping there’s more plot to this. Like it’ll bite him in the ass type thing. I’m sure Caligula will be fucked in the head like Drake. Drake had described Silas hurting his head but it was on accident.. So I see that happening. But I’m also hoping Jade dies... sorry :/
Ok, so I’m happy to have Silas’ POV. Glad that he had TWO chapters.. but honestly it felt like they were a waste of time. I wanted to see Sky (which I don’t like) treat Silas like crap and beat on him or something because that’s what some of the other Chimeras had stated. I for one, actually like Silas and I’m always up for more of him. I know, he’s the guy everyone should hate but I guess I’m also in the minority on that as well. Oh and I SHIP RENO AND SILAS ❤️❤️❤️
Reno, poor guy. I really do hope Quil doesn’t kill Reno. I do hope Silas sees Reno more than just a friend..
Spike, I just don’t like. I feel like he’s different than the guy we first met.. plus, I think his sex crazed mind makes me cringe. He just makes me cringe.
Reaver and Killian, always a joy to see these two’s chapter. I always felt from book one to this book and beyond will always be their story. But again maybe that’s why I don’t like Jade and Elish.. because I feel Quil favors those two more. I definitely like the character development of Killian. Reaver will always be my favorite (Silas after, IDK why..) because he’s a fucking badass unicorn. I love his asshole attitude.
Drake just lit up the whole book. The transaction between him, Reaver and Killian just killed me! Drake was the match that lit up the candle in a dark room. Absolutely, thought he was a charming character.
The next book, I’m hoping to see more POV’s of Silas, Reno, or course Reaver and Killian. I’d like to see less of Spike. I don’t think he should be a character with a chapter.
Genius, thy name is Quil Carter. His imagination is surpassed by no one, in my not so humble opinion.
My review will not go into what it’s about, just how I feel about what I read. This plot is so thick it’s like walking through cement. That’s a compliment to the nth degree.
Jade and Elish: OMG. Their wedding reception and their honeymoon night. W.T.F. I practically blew a gasket and wanted to sucker punch something, anything. And that’s just the beginning of my extreme mood swings.
Reno and Garrett: W.T.F. Part deux. Uh-uh. No way. Garrett no-no-no. Reno...shake it out, come on.
Reaver and Killian: My addiction is Reaver. I love him and all his crazy psycho ways. He is at his best and worst as always. I hope he never changes. And Killian, my sweet boy, really? Holy moly guacamole! Who’d a thunk? (Throw in a side of Drake, put a horn in front of that dog, lol.)
Silas and Sky: Silas is the man I hate to love, and love to hate. He drives me to second guess everything. But Sky...I have only one word for him: HATE. Nuff said.
The Deckers: Don’t know who to trust, don’t turn your back on ANYONE. Just when I got comfortable with one of them, the knives would come out and those grins.....yikes!
A God Among Insects is a brilliant tale of the darkest of palace intrigue and the lustiest and grittiest of passions. I live for the next installment. Give me more. Give it to me hard and rough. I can take it. No safe words allowed.
This book made me question just about every single character. Trust a chimera on one page and you're liable to get stabbed in the back on the next. There were few that remained true to their nature from the start of this series. Reaver, Killian, Elish (because we knew going in that he was manipulative and had one goal in mind), Jade...Luca and Drake are in that few. Freaking DRAKE - I want to snuggle-fuck the hell out of him - zero filter where anything is concerned.
Ceph surprised me - of anyone he should be the last one forgiving Elish - but he was the first. He's a keeper in my eyes. I hate that Silas cowers down to Sky. I hate Nero, Kessler, Caligula and JACK!!! Like for real - I can't even with any of these guys. Kessler has been a tool from the get-go, but the others? Elish needs to snap out of it because I don't see this ending well for him.
And then there is Garrett and Reno - I figured at some point something would happen, but WOW - talk about going postal. Reno, who was such a happy, carefree guy is a shell of what he used to be by the end of this book :(
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series and the Fallocaust world! I love that you get chunks of each character in every book. I'm freaking out because there are only two left and know I need to slow down but I can't. So yea...everything about this series is fantastic.
i am honestly afraid to see where this book is going.
i like(d?) jack & caligula. maybe even nero. but mostly caligula :(
i loved adler. probably my favourite character in this whole series, apart from E&J. i don't know if he'll ever be back, but i hope he does, although it seems unlikely.
thinking back, it's cool to see how the stage has slowly moved away from the graywastes to skyfall as the series progresses.
last note: i think mostly everyone hates sky, but i'm ok with him for now. i don't know. he wanted to be dead & stay dead... so if you chose to defy his wishes to revive him, then wtf do you expect? obviously not sunshine and roses. let him stay dead or enjoy his terrible personality & the consequences.
Quil's books are always super long, but they are never boring. And this one was long...lots and lots of stuff, but of course I am left with wanting more. The character development is so good that the story can effortlessly shift from character to character without any let down. I was surprised to see a lot of time spent on Jack. And a little bit disappointed there was not much about Silas. But really, when it comes down to it, it's really Reaver and Killian and Elish and Jade for me. I need volume 2 stat!
A God Among Insects Volume 1 Where is the King? With Silas out of the picture his children run amuck! Brace yourself for more dark and twisted times as this book delivers it all and more. Who do you root for, still not sure. I want them all to win! I've gone through the gamete with them all, love and hate them all, but I always want more. Good thing there's another volume!
I’d forgotten how much I love this series. I actually took a break because of how intense and emotionally draining the series is so it took me awhile to remember where I’d left off. I adore Killian and Reaver, and I’m loving their “adventure” with Drake. I don’t like the way Elish treats Jade at times and it makes me wish Jade would leave him. Reno flat out annoyed me. Spike is an interesting addition. Mixed feelings with the rest of the guys but I’m hating Kessler, Tiberius and Nero right now, especially after that ending! I’m immediately moving to the next book.
It's funny how the first companion book made me hesitant to pick it up because I didn't like Elish's and Jade's relationship. Now I think this story of Elish is the best out of all the companion books so far. And knowing his story has quickly made him one of my favorite characters in the series. He's deliciously complicated but after reading all that has happened to him I really think he's a good guy, the real antihero and boy am I ever a sucker for those! I'm team Elish, and I really hope he finds the peace and happyness he deserves.
What can I say.. Just.. Uughh this is perfection😩 How can it keep getting better and better?? What a wild ride.. Kept me up two nights (worth it) and there’s just so many questions, so many feelings. I’m way too obsessed, I love them all<3 Dextopia gave me these surrealistic vibes which I love. I have so many thoughts and feelings but it’s impossible to try to make sentences out of them. AGAI vol 1 charmed me.. Vol 2, here we go🥹🖤
So I was hopeful the plot would pick up, however that is not the case. I do like the characters but with each book the sex seems to be becoming more than the plot. I skimmed through quite a few of these scenes as they are getting repetitive. I feel the need to get to the end, just to find out what happens, I do think this series could have been wrapped up by now though.
Can’t really put into words just how amazing this series is. I cannot put them down. Dark, disturbing and just a little fked up. I loved every minute of them can’t wait for more
I have NO WORDS for the CRAZY that this book brings you...believe me when I say you will forget your life once you start this series. And this book is just a continuous screaming of WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING ❤️
Este libro hizo que mis emociones explotaran. Desde Evenfall no sentía este sentimiento de molestia por los acontecimientos sucedidos en la historia. Sigo sin poder conectarme con Reaver, y estoy muy desilusionada de Nero y Jack.
