Great introduction to a new dark romance series. Ophelia is a happy, well-loved (even slightly spoiled) daughter. She loves her family, especially her mother and younger sisters and quickly befriends twins, Max and Ryker. She’s immediately drawn to them, but what she feels for Ryker is different, stronger—tingly. Unfortunately, Ophelia isn't just a happy daughter, sister, and friend. She's the daughter of a Russian mob boss who has made a lot of enemies and hurt too many people. Now, she's going to pay for her father's sins.
She loses everything when her world comes crashing down on her 18th birthday. It's traumatic and violent.
This prequel makes me want to read the series. It shows you pieces of who the characters are--Ophelia, Max, Ryker even a glimpse of the bad guy Kain. Kain does some horrible things that day and is probably going to do even worse, especially to Ophelia, but there's more to him than brutality and vengeance. I can’t wait to see more of what is driving Kain. If you’ve read the author’s Rose and Thorn series, then you’ve seen Ophelia before and know how her story ends. I guess this is how she gets her dark HEA.
