THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.
In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.
After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.
I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!
But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.
After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.
I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
Personal hate and vengeance that spanned a decade ending in a manner that was daring, intense and wrought with pain and satisfaction. Where or what will come next? Looking forward to answer!
Brady Hawk , a covert operator for a presidential sanctioned covert organisation called Firestorm is assisting the British in capturing or eliminating an Islamic terrorist named Fazil whose sole motivation is revenge on the British defense Secretary for sanctioning a drone that killed his brother. If Hawk is unsuccessful, hundreds of innocent citizens will die. This is a nonstop action thriller from start to finish. Enjoyed immensely!
What an absolute belter of a story. I could not put this book down till I had finished it, a day went missing while reading this, and the wife wonders what I did as didn't do the things that I said I was going to do. Ho well back in the dog house again.
Since Book #1 of this series, the one consistent thorn in secret agent Brady Hawk’s side has been Karif Fazil, leader of the terrorist group Al-Hasib. In this outing, Brady and his partner, Alex Duncan, are called away from a romantic getaway in Hawaii to help the British Ministry of Defense prevent a possible 9/11-type attack in London by none other than Karif Fazil.
The usual players are all here with the addition of Liam Davenport, the British Secretary of State for Defense, as a major player in the plot. The non-stop action is mostly set along the Thames River, escalating with each new move by Fazil until a major showdown between Fasil and Brady Hawk. This particular book ends in the same place it began with a new start for Brady and Alex. R.J. Patterson has regained his stride with this fast and furious read.
Great read. One book left. Well the team did well. They helped Great Britain with their troubles around Fazil. While Blunt deals with retiring and a major attack London and the team agrees to help MI5 & MI6. They appear to have bit off more than chew. Fazil pretty much has both teams over a barrel. But they work it out. When Blunt retires and Hawk and Axe get married, Firestorm is disbanded and the newly weds get the phone call. Read on.
I have used all the superlatives I can think of!! Please do not stop writing your Great thrillers!! My thanks Annette Graham-- Texas Reader
R.J. Patterson is one of my favorite authors. His characters are extremely well fleshed out, especially the Firestorm group, Alex, Hawk and Blunt. I am reading the entire series, and it never gets old. There are always suspense, surprise, and ingenious plots. You can't miss if you like adventure stories.
I get it. The editor tries to communicate with author A variety of edits with a marked digital copy of the manuscript . Author doesn’t read edits and the marked up manuscript to publisher faith the direction ‘Print it !’ How else could a finished work have sentences that have too many word.
Guess I'm not the only one who watched "London Has Fallen"! Waaay to many similarities for my liking. And, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, our hero goes into a scenario that would make superman nervous.
Firestorm are called in by London security forces to help stop a terrorist attack, led by Karif Fazil. As Hawk and Alex help, London is set for multiple attacks, as Karif wants revenge for his brother's death.
I enjoy the confusion that reading this story has for you. There isn't a situation where you can figure out how are they going to get out of this? Great story!
This was another intense and complex story with many unexpected twists, as well as horrific tragedies. It was a great addition to the series. I would recommend this book, series, and author.
Enjoyed the book. Exciting as always when reading about Brady Hawk. Some of his exploits were a bit out there especially in London, but still fun to read. Looking forward to the next book.
As usual this book is as good as all the others Thai I read before. This book is exciting and you are anxious to see how it ends. Can’t wait to read Book 14.
Exciting happenings. Davenport has been kidnapped. His children were saved but wife died. Another terrorist attack is looming. Will Hawk be able to stop it. Wait and see.
Brit’s are being attack, with known agents floating in the Thames River. How was information obtained, thought Black Wolf, and files were destroyed. Alex and Hawk in Hawaii, in a chapel when called back to work. Meeting with Blunt, and others of why they were called in. Fazil is the center of the attack, and wanted Hawk’s imput on Al Hasib , what his next move would be. Question why there, it’s always been US. Who are the people he gets to do his bidding, and what places are being targeted. Another fast paced, with twists, and shortage of time, before it escalates. Marriage for Alex and Hawk and retirement for Blunt still on the agenda ? Another great story that readers will love.
Brady Hawk is R.J. Patterson's answer to Ethan Hunt of the Mission Impossible series. Fast paced, advanced technology and edge of your seat action. Like Mission Impossible, Hawk works for a covert organization that goes far beyond the capability and accountability of other, more restricted government organizations. Twists and surprising turns make for an intense and captivating reading adventure. Patterson is another of the unique story tellers that will bring you hours of reading enjoyment and Firestorm along with Brady Hawk and company are the tools of his trade.
