Princesses consists of four Novellas that take place sometime before The Academy. Each gives background on cadets who Cendrilla Perrault meets at the Academy. Two become friends of “Rilla”, the other two... not so much.

The Novellas consist of:

Millissa: a retelling of Rumplestiltskin as it fits in The Seven Kingdoms series.

Beastly Bride: The Seven Kingdoms version of The Frog Prince. This Princess is - um - ghastly... that’s the best word I could come up with!

Dora: This story alludes to The Three Bears, just. However, this version has lots of twists and turns and adds a lot to the overall story.

Bianca: This is a representation of Snow White. In this version, Bianca (Snow) can’t catch a break. The dwarves are nasty little dudes. They abuse her as a servant; punish her in heinous ways. When she tries to escape, she ends up in the same position she ran from before the dwarves.

Read these stories to find out how each became a cadet at the Academy. The stories also fill in fmamilial relationships among royalty and other connections to Cendrilla and her companions. If you have read, are reading, or plan to read the Seven Kingdom series, Princesses should be on your TBR list. It can be read at any time, but the stories take place before the Academy. Enjoy!

A unique retelling of four classic fairytales

We met them at the Academy, when Cendrilla started attending there. Milissa, Freida, Dora, Bianca. Two royal born princesses, one miller's daughter-turn-queen and a barmaid, who all ended up in the Academy. But who are they really? Where did they come from? And why are they behaving the way they are?

Cordelia Castel is a great story teller, and as such she not only created a rich and mythical / fairytale world, but provided us with background stories on secondary characters, who play crucial roles in the development of the Seven Kingdoms series.

Well written, with attention to detail and well developed characters, although these stories can be read as standalones, I definitely suggest you read the main series as well.

This book is provided to me free of charge. My review is given freely.

While I enjoyed the book as a whole, one of the stories implies multiple instances of sexual assault, and comes across as doing so gratuitously. I feel queasy after having read it, and I don't know how to reconcile the tone of this story with either the other three stories or the larger series that it supplements. The prequels do their job, as, after reading them, I now understand better the motivations of Millissa, Frieda, Dora, and Bianca.

What great stories about the princesses and how they came to the academy. It is explained so much and gives us so much more to the series. I absolutely loved how well it is written and the flow is amazing. You will definitely want to read through the rest so you can know more but is is definitely worth reading. I voluntarily review an advanced reader copy of this book.

The Princesses (The Seven Kingdoms)
by Cordelia Castel This is a Bombastic book. If you have just started STOP and read this book before moving on. The backgrounds are AMAZING. If truth be told you would never imagine. I liked Millisa and Dora through out the prior books. Frieda... you can judge the rest yourself. Have to move on to 3. Bye for now.

Nice back stories

How did Cendrilla’s companions come to be at the Academy? What motivates their individual personalities? The Princesses answers these questions and gives us a quick look into their former lives. Great fantyfun!

Violence and more violence.

I liked the longer novels in this series okay, but this collection was practically the book version of a snuff film. Nothing but cruelty and pain and violence for no good reason. Absolutely awful.

This is a set of short stories about the Princesses that Rilla met at the academy. I love learning more about them and about the world they live in
