A creative misfit is trapped in a bubble, separated by an invisible barrier from the rest of humanity. She believes nothing will ever break the barrier. One day a musician begins to play a new song inspired by something she wrote...
A short story. (Approximately 4 minutes average read time.)
Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick lives in an undisclosed location outside of Phoenix where she and her husband chase their four little boys and an escape-artist dog. They don't chase their cats, however, because cats hate that. She is the author of "The Kitten Files" mysteries, "The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott" spy series, and multiple short stories.
In addition to her writing, Perry enjoys graphic design, playing a number of musical instruments, and watching movies that make her laugh.
This was utterly beautiful! It reminded me in some ways of a whimsical Pixar short. Kirkpatrick's writing style is as engaging as ever, and I thoroughly enjoyed this short, sweet, adorable story! A quick couple-minute read, you should definitely check this out!
THIS STORY. So short it's about the size of a long blog post. Perfectly descriptive of the isolation artists face. The melancholy sadness of being alone. The power of art to bless and to connect.
Happy sigh. I loved reading it. ;)
Best quote: After a moment, a single violin note wept behind her. Then another.
I read this aloud to my younger sisters. While it was somewhat esoteric for them, my youngest sister has announced that it was "cool and very creative". ;)
Altogether, a short but encouraging and beautiful read!
Wow, that was neat!! It's hard to know how to write a review for it though, so I guess I'll just say, "go read it!" I really liked it - although at the beginning I wasn't sure what was going on, but I got it in the end! It's an allegory, after all!
That cover though!! *sighs happily and stares at it* So lovely!
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
Brief and beautifully told, this allegory left me with a wistful yet warm feeling of appreciation for creativity, both others' and my own. I'll be reading and savoring it again and again.
Create is a lovely story of two lonely creatives and the impact they can have on the world. As a writer myself, it really struck a cord with me, and reminded me how much of an impact our work can have, and how important it is to come along side other creatives. Beautifully written!
I received a free copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed are my own, honest and unbiased.
My first non-Emily Abbott book and I was really impressed by the clever content. Beautifully written with a powerful message. Perry is an author to follow for sure!
A sweet and poignant allegory for artists of all kinds. Although there were no point-blank morals given, I liked the emphasis on the fact that we were made for community, even those of us for whom it doesn't come as naturally, as well as the message that what we've been given is meant to be shared, not tucked away inside our own bubbles. Very inspiring!
A very well-written, whimsical tale! The way it was written to show how artists create and how the world often views them, was perfect. The world doesn't always understand creators even if they enjoy what they create. And how the story writes about creators loneliness was sad and heartfelt and very true. I thought that the tale was very heart-touching being a lonely writer myself. Really enjoyed it. I only now wish that we had another story with the main characters. I think it would make a wonderful romance. Please, Perry! Write another one!
