He thinks I’m gone too, but I’m just biding my time till I can repay the favor. Billions mean nothing without your family. My seclusion gives me peace, but I’m losing my humanity being alone. And I’m taking back my life and those who try to stand in my way can go to hell. It’s time for this to end. But can I keep my family safe this time? Damaged Love is a full length standalone romance with no cheating and no cliffhangers, but with plenty of a steam and a HEA. I've also included a preview of my billionaire romance "Point of No Return" for you! - Sarah J. Brooks (USA Today Bestselling Author)
I apparently read a different book than all the reviewers on Goodreads. Because while I remain impressed by the dude on the cover (seriously, sir, job well done), I was less than thrilled with the book itself. I DNF’d at 4%. Here’s why. (Hang with me, folks. This is another one where Imma rant a bit)
Telling instead of showing: The whole first part of the book tells me about how smart and successful the hero is, and about how he runs a company that is doing groundbreaking cancer drug research. His rival (an old friend) is doing shady stuff to compete. All of this is being told to me at great length WHILE THE HERO AND HIS WIFE ARE FLEEING KILLERS!!!!
Seriously? I had to read about 10 pages of backstory before I get to the part where the hero and his wife are fighting to stay alive? There wasn’t any better way to weave that backstory in without interrupting the action?
After that, I get a bunch of backstory about the heroine. Again, I’m TOLD all of this backstory, as opposed to having it shown to me throughout the story. If there’s one thing I can’t stand in a romance it’s a lengthy info dump at the beginning.
Consent. It’s a real thing, dude: So, after some horrific stuff happens to our hero (including losing his wife), he goes into hiding and becomes a grumpy mountain man. Now, y’all know I love me a grumpy mountain man. I’ll admit I kind of skimmed through all the boring backstory to get to the part where the hero turns into a grumpy mountain man, and that’s when I read about him finding the heroine (who is badly hurt in a car crash) and taking her back to his house to help her. Here’s what I find at 4% of the story (after he’s laid her in his bed--while she’s unconscious and hurt--and removed her wet clothing):
“She had the softest skin, smooth and white. I left her satin lace panties and bra, but my heart was raging a war within me. I used every ounce of restraint to keep myself from peeling them off and sampling the subtle delights within. This beautifully broken angel was going to be mine, I knew it. There was no way I was going to be able to keep myself from her.”
SERIOUSLY? WTF, dude???? This woman is hurt and unconscious and it’s all you can do to keep from violating her while she sleeps? And THIS is supposed to be the hero of the story? Am I supposed to think it’s sexy that this guy has to use “every ounce of [his] restraint” to not rape this poor woman? And you’re sure she’s going to be yours, that there’s no way you can keep yourself from her? What if she DOESN’T WANT YOU? I’m assuming he’d just force her to do whatever he wants. That’s the kind of guy he seems to be.
(And this is a minor point, and I’m not a grammar Nazi or word nerd, so I could be wrong, but I think you “wage” a war, not “rage” a war. In other words, I think “my heart was waging a war within me” would be correct, but “raging a war” is not. The author could’ve said a war was raging within his heart and THAT would’ve been an OK alternative, I think, but as it stands, the whole sentence sounds weird. But I digress…)
So, I was forced to DNF at 4% because I think the hero is a sicko rapist, is quite possibly a future stalker, and might be into necrophilia. Just sayin.’
I laughed out loud at all the names the author gave the male and female parts for sex. Petal, rod, flower....
When someone has been on the pill they know you have to take it everyday or not protected. She told him she was covered, when she knew she wasn’t.
The story ideas was good, but not executed properly. Some things were just put there and the wrapped up in a bow for a HEA. He was so worried about the danger to him and his family yet he bagged it and turned in info and the guy was in jail just like that. Oh yeah and his kids weren’t confused or traumatized by his sudden reappearance from the dead. To top it off sex with total stranger and then Love.
Damaged Love by Sarah J Brooks a five-star read that you will Love. What a story, it has characters you will love, even if you will want to smack Dash every now and again, I mean that man has cured cancer but he still needs to grow a pair at times. But he’s super-hot in a wilderness climb that boy like a mountain hot way. Jeni is the lovely young woman who needs to find a life outside of her work and grampy. When she goes for a hike thinking she will be back before the storm, the problems start. What a story, it’s got a little of everything drama, passion, sex and dreams.
This story was just ok for me. At the beginning Dash relives a bit of his life with his wife and how she died. He still seemed torn up and distraught over losing her since it had only been a year since the accident. The moment Imogen turned up in his life it seemed like he forgot about all his grief over his late wife. He literally fell head over heels in love with her the moment he saw her her. I liked Jeni (Imogen), she was sweet, caring and independent. She fell fast for Dash but I didn't really blame her because she wasn't privy to all his history. I liked how it ended, it was sweet. This was a quick read with very steamy love scenes! I voluntarily read an arc copy for my honest review! .
Dear Jeni-- I guess you know that Fearless is not always the best way to be… Some might call it reckless. And look where it got you! Oh, wait! Maybe it’s not so bad after all. Rescued by a guy who looks like a storybook Jesus and kisses like-- well…
But Dash has secrets of his own. Like the fact that he’s not dead. This may be obvious to you, but it’s not obvious to the rest of the world…
Uh, oh. Looks like you landed in a heap of trouble. And both of your lives are about to change… Bet you never guessed you’d go dashing through the snow in a Tesla! Life is what you make it. And Love can triumph over many things.
Lately, it seems, I’ve been reading a lot of books at 3AM. Once I started this one, there was no way I was putting it down until I reached the end. Bottom line: Well worth a book hangover. 5 stars.
Another wonderful story by Sarah. Every time I read one of her books I get swept away. This is a great mountain man story that is a great read.
Dash ends up hiding away in the mountains after a horrible tragedy. He decides to hide up there until he feels it is time to go and make his presence known. But when Jeni ends up needing help after getting hurt while hiking, she might make him change his plans.
Again this is a wonderful story with mystery and love all rolled into one. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for my honest review.
This book has a very entertaining storyline with lots of action, danger and romance. You have a man that has suffered a terrible loss and is in hiding. He risks his secrets to save a woman who needs his help. Neither expected a strong bond to form and for them both to be willing to take serious risks to protect one another.
The story gets your attention from the start and keeps you guessing. I really liked both of the characters and how the author really developed them so that you felt a real connection.
I have read some of the slowest books ever as of late, but this one takes the cake. Unnecessary long dictations on each and every situation. I skimmed most of it and it didn’t have an impact at all.
Dash is a doctor/scientist, who owns a pharmaceutical company on the verge of finding a cure to cancer. His old college buddy got in deep with the mob and feels threatened by Dash and tries to kill him. After the accident that took his wife's life leaving him broken, he goes to live in seclusion. He continues his work through his sister, so that everyone thinks he is dead.
Jeni is a child psychologist who was out climbing the mountain when a storm hits and she falls in a hole. With no one answering her distress call, she starts to fade. Then Dash comes and rescues her. Dash has a hard time resisting her and wants to see if they can act on it, but once the storm clears she must leave and forget him. Easier said than done right. Will Dash come out of hiding to be with Jeni?
I just have to say that this was a great story plot. I really enjoyed the book. It was thrilling, hot, and exciting. I did wish the ending would have had a bit more bang! to it. I was expecting a show down of some sort. Other than that the book was outstanding.
Dash was a very intelligent and brave man. Not to mention sexy as hell. Always a plus in my book. ;) Jeni was amazing with children and a strong independent woman. The chemistry between these two was instant and the more time they spent together the more intense that attraction became. Hard to resist.
Overall this story plot was Sarah's best to date. I loved the book, but was a tad bit disappointed in the ending. I felt like it could have had a bit more depth or bang! to it. But overall the book was a great read. Grabbing your attention from the very first page. And let me just say that was one sexy ass mountain man. I think I need to get lost in the mountain. Save me Dashell! Save me! ;)
Imogen and Dash will leave you absolutely breathless with their tale of finding light and salvation in one another. Jeni has never experienced that passion fueled love that is described in books and seen in movies. For goodness sakes, her last long term relationship basically ended like the end of a summer camp friendship. She focuses most of her time and energy on her rewarding job, as a child psychologist, which she love and her Gramps, while crotchety, she still adores. When a freak accident while hiking lands her right into the arms of a mountain god she not sure if she's stumbled into a steamy romance novel or a bloody horror one. She cannot deny he’s devilishly handsome and attracts her like a moth to a flame, but there is something quite off about a man such as himself being such a recluse. Ever since losing his wife to forces that are determined to not only end him but taint his life's work for their own nefarious purposes, Dash has hidden himself away from the world. He has had to fake his own death and leave behind his children for their protection and not a day passes he doesn't pine for them, but this is the only way to protect everyone. When a snow covered angel lands at his doorstep, he is helpless to turn her away. Imogen makes him want things he didn't believe he would ever yearn for again and makes him once again feel alive. He knows he only has fleeting time with her and getting involved is reckless and dangerous, but he is helpless to disregarding his desires. He already lost one woman he cared for to this vendetta and he won't risk Imogen. With danger lurking still, will he be able to find a way back to life and love?
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.

This is a great story and very entertaining. This story will get you caught up from the first page on. This story has steamy scenes, car chases, danger lerking around and a great love you couldn't ask for better in a story. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. I enjoyed it so much I bought my own copy.

Mark and the mob still look for Dash because they aren’t 100% sure that he died in that crash. Wow what an amazing story fantastic plot and great characters, this story is going on my to read again shelf yes people it was that good. I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
i read this book as part of an arc program. I enjoyed this book about Dash and Jeni. Dash owns a research company and he was close to discovering a cure for cancer. A rival businessman who also had ties to illegal drug lords was trying to buy Dash's company, but Dash wouldn't sell. The rival took matters to new dangerous levels when Dash and his wife were chased and shot at, causing a car crash where Dash's wife was killed and Dash was believed to be killed. Dash went into hiding in order to protect his children from danger. Dash retreated to the mountains and continued his research, naming his sister as head of his company. One day, Jeni was visiting her grandfather on the other side of the mountain, she went for a hike and fell. Jeni called for help on her cb radio and when Dash heard her, he rescued her and took her back to his cabin to wait out the storm. Dash and Jeni were attracted to each other, but before they acted on it, Dash had to get her to promise to forget him when the storm was over and she returned to her home. I liked this book, i liked Dash, but i thought he was punishing himself too much. It was sad what he was dealing with. I liked how he knew Jeni was someone special to him and wanted what was best for her. They were good together and had great chemistry. Good one.
Chance Encounter and Finding Love in a Snowstorm Sarah Brooks has a cohesive, interesting plot with magnificent characters who come to life with humor, playfulness, steamy sex and tender love. We are introduced to Dashell a brilliant scientist and doctor working on a cancer inhibitor. Dash is a billionaire and owns his own company. There is a drug cartel pursuing Dash, he enters witness protection, retreats to a mountain hideaway and now works there and is a reclusive solitary mountain man.The fun begins when he answers the distress call from Imogen (Jeni) stranded on the mountain in a horrific storm. Jeni and Dash become soulmates. Jeni doesn’t know what to think of “Mountain Man Hunk” who lives lives in a high tech “zombie” shelter. As the story progresses deep love develops with steamy sex and lots of twists and turns. I loved when they rode Dash’s Tesla through the snow and I totally fell in love with these two characters. I can’t give more away. You will be addicted to the story and push to get to the ending. The plot is excellent and suspenseful. Finding love with a chance encounter is a priceless karma. This is now my favorite novel by this author who really hit the bar with this one! I received an ARC copy for my honest review and loved it so I purchased it too.

Sarah J Brook’s has come up with a fantastic, gripping story with her new read Damaged Love. From the very start this page turner grabs you with the gripping start with Dash the nerdy scientist, who has a business Rainseed, and has developed a new cancer inhibitor, a chromosome manipulator that his old friend Mark Laviathan, his main competitor, badly wants and will go to any lengths to get the formula! Even if he has to kill him to get it. Jeni (Imogen) is a pediatric therapist working with children. Her passion is climbing mountains, whereupon she meets Dash, hiding in his fortress in the mountains. Really intriguing, well written storyline, believable characters with beautiful personalities. Only downside to the great read was the ending was rushed and a little too short, but nevertheless a really great read, one I would highly recommend. This is my honest review of an ARC I received.
Cancer drug researcher and scientist, Dash🐺🍆🌋, has a bitter rival, Mark👹. So bitter , that Mark👹 hired some men to kill Dash🐺🍆🌋. Instead it's his beloved wife that is killed, but Dash🐺🍆🌋 is listed as killed too, so he can go into hiding and continue his work.
He lives as a hermit on top of a mountain in a modern cabin. A year goes by and its winter on the mountain, when Dash🐺🍆🌋 finds an injured hiker, Imogen💋💃, a woman. He brings her to his cabin and a brief but torrid love💘 affair begins while he cares for her leg.
Most of the book📙 is about the three days they spend together, since of course this is an adult🍆🌋 romance!
I loved💕 the overall story! The writing of XXX scenes, however , could have used some improvement. They were blah, with trite metaphors used in many places Story 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟, XXX scenes 🌟🌟🌟, average 🌟🌟🌟🌟
ARC Received for a Voluntary and Honest Review. I also bought the book with KU.
I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review. A very good story about Jeni and Dash. Dash has been in hiding for over a year after his enemies tried to kill him and successfully killed his wife. He left his company and his two children in the hands of his sister. Jeni was visiting her grandfather when she decided to hike up the nearby mountain. She slipped and tumbled info a crevasse. With a sprained ankle and a head injury she tried to use her cell to call for help. When that did not work she used her walkie talkie but no response. Dash heard her call for help and responded. She spent three days with Dash where they fell passionately in love with each other. But danger came to Dash's door and he had to send Jeni away. Later his sister and Jeni convinced him to come out of his self imposed exile and face the bad guys and to take back his company and continue his research. A very good read.
There is Dash who is a successful bio scientist but his life is shattered when his wife is killed in a terrible accident. Seems a competitor wants Dash out of the way and will stop at nothing to do it. He ends up going into making people believe he died in the accident as well and is hiding like a hermit in the mountains so that no one can find him. Then there is Jeni, who is not afraid of anything and really enjoys the outdoors and rock climbing. When she gets into trouble up on the mountain, Dash ends up going to save her. The attraction is immediate. Can they be together though? The dangerous people are still after him. Trying to figure out if he is dead or not. This is a sweet love story with some intrigue that keeps you reading. Enjoy.
I voluntarily wrote this review from an advanced copy of this book.
Good simple story with some hot sex scene, but even if the first chapter is full of action, the rest of story is sweeter and quite predictable. I appreciated the scene when Jeni is saved, because even if it’s a dramatic scene, it maked me laugh when she thinks Jesus comes to save her. Dash was a scientist and he found a treatement against a drug, but the inventor of this drug tried to kill him. His wife died and Dash finds himself in the witness protection program, with a new identity. He decides to live in a cabin, all alone, to protect his children and his sister who takes care of his enterprise. Jeni goes to a walk in the mountain, but she falls in a hole. She’s saved by Dash and they fall for each other, despite the dangers. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
When Jeni's hike in the mountain takes a turn for the worse- the sky turns menacing, in her haste to get back to her to the safety of a warm car she finds herself in an awful predicament! Her savior? Dash, a strange recluse of a mountain man whose mannerisms run hot and cold with secrets aplenty. He tends to her wounds. Will that be all he tends too while she is stuck in his fortress? Sarah J. Brooks brought the heat, suspense, and angsty feels and a heart of heart insta love story that I could not put down! This fun but deep, intricate storyline with its fast pacing was an instant attention grabber, and the active characters wittiness kept it flowing along through the darker moments making the yummy insta all between them that much more gratifying! Worthwhile read!
This story was AMAZING! Great characters, great plot, and omgeee, did you look at that cover? That alone should hint to you the degree of hotness inside! There was no shortage of excitement or action, the story was well told and believable, nice, descriptive, you can put yourself right there. No spoilers in this review, but you must know that the characters have wonderful chemistry, and grab your attention from the very start. You will not want to put this book down. Sarah Brooks without a doubt has a wonderful way with words, putting them in the right order and giving us all the wonderful entertainment you would expect from one of her books! If you've never read her books, this is a great place to start, and if you're already a fan, what are you waiting for?
Wow! Brains, brawn, sex appeal and integrity!! Dash really is a swoon worthy hero! He is a character with a strong sense of duty to better the world and care for all of those around him. And he just melts my insides! In this story you get a fantastically written plot which moves along very quickly. Sarah is able to pair this with well written characters who both show strong a strong independence and self reliance, yet they come together with a great passion. Sarah crafts her story with strong details that enable you (the reader) to be immersed into the story- you can feel the cold of the snow and the painfully hard attraction brought on by just a glance. Sarah continues writing great stories that I highly recommend.
This book is a beautiful heartbreaking story about a man who lost his wife in a car accident and the life he had with her. Dash is a sexy scientist turned rugged mountain man who left society to go into hiding from the people who tried to kill him in the same accident that killed his wife. Jeni who was out hiking on the mountain ends up injured and caught in a storm. Dash comes to the rescue and fate has brought them together. Love the chemistry between these two. Will Dash give up living in seclusion and get his life back? This story really captured my heart and I even shed a few tears while reading it. This fabulous story has a little of everything for every reader, drama, heartache, action, suspense, mystery and a steamy love story. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
Dash and Jeni are beautiful characters that makes this story stand out. Both have experienced horrific grief and has lived through it. Dash is living the life of a recluse in hopes of keeping his family safe from the ones who tried to kill him and in fact succeeded killing his wife. Jeni held her mother as she died in her hands as a child and to this date has not had close relationships. All of that is about to change when she goes for a hike. When the weather changes and she try to make it back down the mountain she falls and injures herself. Listening to the radio Dash hears her cries and goes out to rescue her. What stars out as a rescue turns into a true love story between these two. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
