Introducing the "A Soulmate for the Heartbroken Duke" Novel - Discover NOW The New Regency Romance Book by Bridget Barton!
Lovely - Romantic - Exciting!
When Lord Thomas Carlton, second son of the Duke of Shawcross, decides one fateful afternoon in his youth to befriend the beautiful Lady Catherine Ambrose, he could never conceive of the events that would follow. Tired of his father's bullying and arrogance, he thinks he will amuse himself by making a friend of the daughter of the Duke's bitterest enemy; The Earl of Barford. Little did he know how he would fall in love with Lady Catherine and let loose a chain of events that could seemingly be stopped by nothing and nobody.
Lady Catherine Ambrose, daughter of the Earl of Barford, knew what it was to grow up in a household where little was thought of a young woman. Her father was more concerned with his bitter feud with the Duke of Shawcross than the welfare of his offspring. When Thomas Carlton first speaks with her at a summer ball, Catherine thinks him daring and amusing, not to mention handsome. But, within a short space of time, she finds herself hopelessly in love with him. A love that would never, ever fade.
When the two are discovered and parted by their families, Catherine finds herself adrift in a world she does not know, a place so far from home. But will she find peace there? And can her new family help her through the most shocking event of her life? And, when all is settled, can the two young lovers finally make their way back to each other and live in the love that should have been theirs all along?
"A Soulmate for the Heartbroken Duke" is a historical romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Bridget Barton was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas.
She has studied English Literature in college and after a brief passage in journalism as a newspaper writer, she stirred her career to what she always loved: becoming an author!
She has always been intrigued by rascals, vagabonds, dukes and rogues, so having the chance to write stories about them is a wish come true for her!
Bridget is married to her own prince charming and is the proud mother of two daughters (and three adorable kittens) and soon to be a grandma!
She is a hopeless romantic who devours romance literature and of course enjoys writing love stories of her own.
When she is not writing, Bridget is relaxing by cooking for her lovely husband, exercising and listening to soft music.
Wow this wonderful author, Bridget Barton, never fails to amaze me Ever since I read A Damsel for the Mysterious Duke, I knew I had to read more of her works! And she didn't fail to deliver perfection!
From the description I'm about to write, it will have very much Romeo and Juliet vibes. If you love this story or not, I can guarantee you that you'll love this heartbreaking story of two lovers, who thankfully receive their happy ending 😊
So, we are introduced to two families, both wealthy and well respected, but because of a feud that happened almost a century ago, the two families have never interacting or tolerated one another. The two Duke are stubborn and very aggressive in their behaviour and how they treat their children. Catherine, who is the second born of the Duke of Barford, has always been seen as the "afterthought" Her father rarely notices her exists and when he does, it is to say awful things. She has lived a hard life, but she has an older brother, Philip who cares deeply for her and is nothing like their father.
The same cannot be said for the two sons of the Duke of Shadowhall. Thomas is also the second born to this Duke, and also the "afterthought" or the "spare". But unlike Catherine, Thomas does not have a loving older brother, in fact he is the image of their aggressive and stubborn father, who is likely to follow the traditional feud between the two families.
But it is at one of the many social events they attend, that the two families happen to be at the same one, that Thomas and Catherine encounter one another secretly, for fear of the fury of their fathers, that they discover a spark in their relationship What started off as harmless friendship, turned into something more beautiful yet incredibly dangerous If their fathers ever found out they were even talking to each other, they'll both suffer hard consequences and punishment
But one simple turn of events, sets a long chain that sets off many different occasions in both their lives. Can they find a way to be with one another?
They'll go through love, heartbreak, suffering, betrayal and anger throughout their time together. And to read it all felt like a stab to my own heart, watching them and feeling and hurting with them!
This is why I love Bridget's works, she knows how to tell a good story with such strong emotions and powerful messages. It's not only about lost love, but about forgiveness and redemption
I honestly fell in love with this book, so beautiful and powerful in every way! My only regret is that I didn't read this book sooner!
Very well written and perfect!
Received a copy from the author herself, for an honest review, thank you!
Nice story, several twists. I did think that, at first, the hero was a total wimp, but he had redeemed himself by the end of the book. Loved the very strong heroine.
I did not want to put this one down. The characters that Bridget put into this story are absolutely wonderful. Bridget also shows how the reputation of being part of the elite can be so daunting. Thomas and Catherine find themselves falling for each other fast. Problem one: Their fathers have been in a feud for decades and cannot seem to get past it, even tho what started it has no bearing on either of them. Because of this, the lives of their offspring are completely off limits to each other. Once discovered that Thomas and Catherine have been seeing each other, her rather stick in the mud father disowns her and sends her away for life. Having one last night together arranged by her brother, they fall hard and fast. Catherine now has to overcome numerous obstacles including a pregnancy which wasn't planned. Thomas tries searching for her but to no avail and since it's his brother (who only wants to shine in his Duke's fathers eyes) who basically ruined their lives, Thomas has no sympathy for him. Without giving too much away as you have to see how these two develop over the years of being apart, you'll find yourself wanting to cheer, cry and wring their father's necks. A must read.
I thought the first 3/4 of the book rather boring. The plot has been written many times before with better thought out characters. The hero is young and not very resourceful at the beginning of the book and seems to stay depressed through much of it. Fortunately he snaps out of his funk for the last quarter. The main problem with the book is that nothing really happens.....The plot is a young and romantic pair are forced to be parted. Then it resumes yrs later.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
But too much going on about what is happening. I found one chapter alone Thomas kept going over and over the same subject. The storyline is good, but I think it was rushed and with skimming quickly over the chapters, I was able to Finnish it.
The main focus of the book is about two families that are in a "fued". This is the second generation to be brought up to not like the other family and to see them as their enemies. Both fathers are paid headed and bullies, especially to their own kids. However, all but one of them thought this was not important any more. At a ball they catch each other's eye and here begins their love and having to hide any meetings or feelings from everyone. After one of the brothers finds out about the secret meetings he tells his father trying to get some approval. Disaster for the couple strikes.
Even though both of these characters live with demanding and bitter fathers, Catherine's older brother Philip was her best friend. She was at least able to have love from him if not from her father. There is so much more to this book, but I would not want to spoil it for you to enjoy.
I received this book free to read and provide an honest review.
This is sort of like Romeo and Juliet, Catherine and Thomas's father are carrying on a several decades feud. They harm and demoralize every one in their households. Catherine and Thomas fall in love and they are caught. Catherine's father disowns her and banishes her from the estate and having anything to do with them. I must admit I did a little crying on this one. Their fathers are so cruel. Her aunt and uncle are great, as were the rest of the characters . The plot is tangled but the author has managed to put it together into a well written, even paced and enjoyable read. I loved it. I can see how some fathers are not nice people. I received this ARC and voluntarily reviewed it.
I was taken away with this story. I wished it was a lot longer. It is very well written and has a great storyline and an amazing plot.
The story is true to it's time period. I like when an author has made research about the time period they want to write the story in. The characters are very likeable and well described. Can they open up and get past what happened? Can they be together and find their HEA? They have to let their emotions out and show each other how they feel. Communication is very important here.
There is drama, family issues, passion, betrayal, secrets, lies, pain and some twists. It is very captivating from first to last chapter. That is because the characters have such great and well described personalities that you feel you know them and are there with them. It kept me on the edge because of the twists that were unexpected. Tissues were sometimes flying around in the air because it is so emotional.
I cannot wait for the next book from Bridget Barton. Really a must read!
I just loved this story, there was such joy when the two met which unfortunately dissolved into sadness. The book was so well written that you could feel the utter despair as you are reading. The fact that these two were kept apart by the stupidity of their grandparents feud which was carried on by their fathers seemed incomprehensible but these things happen. How they resolved their issues made this book one to be read long into the night. I just could not put it down. Deserving of the title of unputdownable.
I received a free copy of the book from the author but the honest review in my own work.
This is a good book about love, betrayal, family and forgiveness. It is well written and the characters are well defined. It is the story of Thomas and Catherine who in love even through their fathers don't like one another and they are separated but are reunited eight years later. The story kept me involved till the end. Recieved a copy from the author and voluntarily giving my honest review. I enjoyed this and all of this Ms . Barton books and look forward to more.
The book started out a little slow and I almost put it down. I'm glad I didn't. Catherine was a very strong person and remained strong throughout the book. Thomas Carlton, second son of the Duke of Shawcross, starts out strong but later on I just wanted to slap him. He fell in love with Catherine but a feud between their fathers kept them apart. Catherine was disowned and sent away. Thomas did try to find her once but then gave up and wallowed in self pity, especially after his older brother died. There are a few twists in the story and it does have a happy ending, thank goodness, but there were times that I just wanted to scream at Thomas especially. I like Ms Barton's style of writing. She gets you into the story. I gave this book a solid 5 stars because I really liked the storyline and I liked the strength of Lady Catherine. She kept fighting for herself and her son. Yes, she had a son. Read the book to find out the details. I received this book in exchange for a honest review. I have bought other books by Ms. Barton and I like her style of writing.
"A Soulmate for the Heartbroken Duke" by Bridget Barton Title of review: An emotional story of 'The After Thoughts' Oh, my, where to start... I really liked this story. Since I tend to get entirely involved in the stories I read.. I for sure needed my tissues for this story. For those who thought the life of an 'After Thought' was simple and uncomplicated.. you do need to read this story. and if you get the chance, be sure to read the extended epilogue.. bring a tissue with you and enjoy the little extra peek into the lives of the characters I am sure you will have come to love.. Oh, I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author... for my honest review. And that is just what you have read, my honest review. Happy Reading !!
Did not like the book cover, but this was a great story
Great story. I actually found that the characters in this story were more realistic and human. I think this is my favorite Bridget Barton story so far (besides the cover). Also, I think the editing on this book is much better than her other books. Not perfect but so much better!!
Content: Clean. There is a pregnancy, but Barton doesn't go into details. Language: Clean Religous: No.
4 stars Lord Thomas the second son of the Duke of Shawcross and Catherine the daughter of the Duke's enemy lives become entangled in this full length romance reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet. A secret love, betrayal, an unplanned pregnancy, and an unexpected death are just a few of the emotion evoking events that fill this poignant and at times heart wrenchingly sad novel that spans over many years but ultimately ends happily. Best read with a box of tissues nearby.
Heartfelt story about love and forgiveness! This story was beautifully written with complex characters and relationships. I love the relationship between Catherine and Thomas and no matter the hate, love can blossom. It is wonderful to she how strong character Catherine has to be able to stand up for what she believes in and to protect what is hers. Overall, this is wonderful emotional story full of love, heartache, betrayal, regret, and forgiveness. It was so good it made me shed a few tears.
Loved the book. Wonderful characters, great resolution, but you cannot see exactly how the happy ending is going to ever happen. I love not knowing ahead of time how they get to that part. Also, the extended epilogue was a tearful but necessary part. Don't miss it!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is about Catherine and Thomas who secretly have to meet so their families will not find out. Their families can't stand each other. This is a heart wrenching romance because of what the young lovers had to go through. An excellent read. Highly recommend.
This is a well written book, but had I known it was this sad I would not have reviewed it. My strong woman is here. With all the bad things happening around us I want happy books.
Can a strong love be torn apart? In the case of Lady Catherine and Lord Thomas. Their families are bitter enemy's yet somehow these two manage to spend time together and fall in love. But when they are found out, terrible consequences arise. Catherine is spirited away far from home where Thomas has no idea where to find her. This is a story of love lost but then found again and a lasting connection that does not go away. My heart is still smiling as I turned the last page. As all of Bridget Barton's wonderful books you will be pulled into the story and feel a part of the characters. A must read if you love historical romance.
This is another winner. Could not put it down. She writes wonderful characters and great storylines in every book. Also their is a surprise at the end of each book that you will enjoy. I highly recommend all her books. Diana Romano
Wow. What a sweet romance! In this story, Catherine Ambrose meets Thomas Carlton, the son of her father’s lifelong enemy. I loved reading how their love began, for it began, and blossomed, beautifully, like in a fairytale. However it is stopped abruptly when their fathers find out about their relationship and Thomas and Catherine are separated. There are many twists and turns after their separation. I just had to keep reading to find out what happened!
A fantastic story full of twists, love and sorrow. The characters are well described, deep and you will love them. The story is so entrainment that it will difficult to put down the book. I recommend this book to all that love regency and feud story.
This book by Bridget Barton was so wonderful, exciting and romantic. I cried through most of the book. Oh my i almost felt likely was back in time with the characters. The whole storyline was fantastic! I could even rate it higher.
Once again Ms. Barton gives her readers a beautifully written story. This time the story reminds us it’s never too late. The characters are fun to read about, some of them are what you would expect them to be as they were in told to us in history books. Don’t miss out on this great story.
True love can be torn apart but it will not be forgotten. Catherine and Thomas are separated by their families after falling in love. But Catherine has to be brave for she finds out she is with Thomas` child. After eight years the meet again. They still have love for each other. Catherine will protect her secret until Thomas stands up to his father so they can be married.
What to say. Make sure you have tissues as you read this. Such a good story, but it breaks your heart over and over. Love the extended ending! Loved the whole story but I kept thinking they would find each other! Eight years! Too hard! Excellent read!!
This is a beautiful story. It has horrible fathers, kind relatives beyond compare and an unending deep love throughout it, bringing so much love and so much pain. It has a wonderful plot with the story so well written I felt like I really knew the people involved, it is exceptional. You will need tissues as this book will touch your heart deeply. I highly recommend it.
The only way that this story could have been written is if the heroine & hero were self-involved, clueless, and not so bright --no, let's be honest, they're stupid. The only reasons I kept reading were 1) I was ill (not from book) and 2) I couldn't believe they'd become more insipid (they did). Congrats to Ms Barton for her entry into the "dumbest character" category ; unfortunately, it ( I hope) was not on purpose.
