Two women. One galaxy. As a decorated Space Ranger in the 8th Galaxy, Captain Natalie (Nat) Reynolds has an exciting, albeit lonely, life. Yet, when Nat answers a distress call from a craft in trouble on a nearby planet, it has the possibility of changing the trajectory of her life forever. Catherine Porter is down on her luck in the worst way. Evicted, almost penniless, she worries all hope is lost until a charismatic stranger flies into her life. Inexplicably drawn to the one woman who can possibly save her, Catherine must face feelings she never considered. Will their stars align and lead them to a happily ever after? Or will their differences tear their hearts apart? If you like a story with romance and adventure, mixed with conflict and heroism, then you will love KC Luck’s page-turning new book. Note: This is a full-length, stand-alone novel with a science fiction theme, but is significantly more focused on strong female characters in a loving lesbian relationship.

DNF. You win some, you lose some. Should have read Ted’s review before downloading. Thankfully this was free via kindle unlimited. A Sci-Fi book that had no Sci-Fi feel to it at all. Eye rolling dialogue and forgettable MC’s.
KC Luck’s Rescue Her Heart was a quick enjoyable read. Well-paced and easy to get lost in. I love sci-fi and romance novels so it’s a great mix of both. It also has an age gap theme which I’m a huge fan of, though my fave are normally older women, this one had two leads approx age 18 and 28. I tend to stay away from reading about younger characters. It’s just a quirk if mine. I did like these characters though and they were enjoyable to follow. The story really got going for me when we get to meet Sal. Ok, I’m going to need at least a short story about her! She’s a tough, bad ass warrior woman who’s had to make difficult decisions to survive and that’s my kind of lead. Looking forward to reading more by KC Luck! I received an arc in exchange for my honest review.
I’m confused. Why use a sci fi setting and then have every reference except the ships be earth in this time period? It was distracting and disappointing.
I think at this point I can safely say, unless someone is very clever, instalove is completely unbelievable and not my thing.
If it is your thing this book will be a better read.
Ultimately 2.5 stars? I don’t know, my star scale is rubbish, but 2 feels too low and 3 a bit too high?
I had my heart in my throat through half the book. The fight scenes were great. Nice twist with Sal’s character and I can’t wait to start the next book. Nat and Catherine are going to be awesome together. Catherine is way tougher and smarter than people think. P.J. Morgan is amazing. She captured the characters heart and soul in her voice.
I don’t know how I got through the whole thing…but miraculously here we are. The plot was flimsy at best. The characters have no chemistry and zero personality to speak of outside of their roles as hero and damsel in distress. And the insta love has me back peddling almost immediately. All of that aside though what really raised the red flag was the lack of any real consent between the two love interests. Here’s the thing — telling her to just let you know if she wants you to stop, while she actively expresses that she doesn’t know if that’s what she wants, especially with the large maturity gap that is painfully obvious, felt oddly predatory and that’s the last kind of representation lesbians (and really the whole queer community) need. If it’s not enthusiastic consent…then it’s not consent at all. There were other occasions of questionable consent and a whole lot of weird power imbalance though out.
Have you seen this cover!? Finally someone who understands how important a good cover can be, one of the best I have seen so far in lesfic.
I really liked the premise and the setting. I love SciFi ad Space Ranger are really cool. But the one thing I don´t like is Insta Love, I mean it was just a picture! The Writing was really good, the characters likeable and the story plot on itself was a good idea. But this whole Insta Love and back and forth on Cathrines mindset knocked it down a notch. I mean we are far in the future and colonized deep in space how can this be still a problem!?
I have my eye open to future releases of the author.
Poor writing, agonising grammar, hackneyed plot, cardboard characters. As soon as the words “space rangers” and “pirates” come up, you know that it isn’t going to be good, but the quality of the writing soon makes it go downhill.
It all adds up to a book that was just painful to finish. Fortunately, it isn’t all that long.
K.C Luck is awesome, a talented mind with a twisted and super style of writing I loved this book, always a fan of kick ass gay females with guns. An easy read, a page turner well worth the time, my 2nd time around with K.C I am a huge fan. Best Dr. Amanda.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a slightly different twist on the police officer/military officer and civilian love story. The characters were well developed. There was pleanty to0 keep the plot flowing and it was very readable. Normally I shy away from anything space but this was very well done and not "out there". I am looking forward to reading more from Ms. Luck.
I really enjoyed KC's debut novel! The characters were badass women that took us on action packed adventures, with some spicy lovin' thrown in! If you like intergalactic travel & some swashbuckling action, you will enjoy this novel! I hope KC's wife bets her again! I'd love to see what she comes up with next!
I like Luck's Darkness Trilogy much better but this was okay. The possessive, 'mine' behaviour was sweet the first time it was said but overdone every time afterwards. Dude, you're a woman... Catherine's not a thing you can claim. So yeah, that got on my nerves.

Space Ranger Nat rescues Catherine after she is caught in a meteor storm and crashes. An epic space book with pirates, missing parents and love. A little bit insta-love on Nats part as Catherine took a little longer to come around. I enjoyed Sal and look forward to the next one.
A fun read! Space ranger Nat saves Catherine who crashed on a frozen planet. This is an action packed, age gap/ toaster oven space love story! I'd write more but I don't want to leave any spoilers. 5 stars!!
A Space Ranger tracks a thief who crashed her plane in her escape only to save her.
Space Ranger Natalie Reynolds is hailed to take the report of some stolen gas for a plane when a dangerous meteor storm hits the area she is in. The thief, Catherine Porter, gets caught in the storm and crash lands on a frozen planet and an SOS is sent out by the plane. Reynolds realizing it is the mystery thief sets out to rescue her. The attraction Reynolds feels for Porter is undeniable, but Porter sets her “straight” (laugh) pun intended - she is not that kind of girl. Yet, Porter cannot deny she does not want to leave Reynolds side. The rescue turns into a vacation for Reynolds and more time with Porter until eventually even Porter cannot deny the attraction. The unanswered question as to why Porter stole the gas gets answered, but it leads to more questions and a trip to Porter’s aunt’s home planet when danger once again finds Porter and Reynolds.
I have to admit that I have never read a “science fiction” book and I was not sure what to expect and this was a lot of fun. K.C. Luck does not make the science fiction so complicated in Rescue Her Heart that a non-science-geek cannot follow along. I love the character of “Nat”, probably because I could identify with almost every thought she had to include the concern regarding the age difference between Catherine and her. Luck creates a strong partner for Nat in Catherine which is necessary when writing for a military character. There are twists and turns in the story as any good adventure has and they all make sense and with one of them, I can already see the next book (hopefully, laugh). The sex is R-rated, but it is the usual sex scene you find in the romances. I do like the emotional connection throughout the sex scenes which is something I usually do not write about but it really works here. I look forward to reading more...even science fiction, well at least if Luck is writing it (laugh).
Note: This was Luck’s debut novel, but I read the anniversary edition which had been updated.
Disclaimer: I received and ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rescue Her Heart is a fun debut novel featuring a mysterious disappearance of both father and fuel, space girlfriends and pirate battles. I would call it science fiction light, so if you are interested in a lot of word building, this might not be for you. However, if you are a fan of adventure romance and can go along with some space travel and blaster battles, you will enjoy this whirlwind romance.
I found this book true to my own life experiences in that the majority of the recurring secondary characters are friends of one of the main characters, Nat, and they are also queer. It is so nice to see queer community and friendship reflected and I really enjoyed that. That said, it is a romance between Catherine, a desparate 18 year old who is just finding out who she is (in more ways than one) and Nat, a 28 year old Space Ranger who doesn't know it yet, but is looking for love. Their age-gap comes up but is not the driving force behind the story. Finding Catherine's father initially drives the plot, but the trouble and fun they get into along the way is the entertaining part.
Through their many adventures, Catherine and Nat are constantly tested. Watching their relationship develop kept me interested. Pick this one up and find out how all these mysteries resolve themselves.
Having watched the progress of the cover being designed and adjusted on FB, my interest was sparked. It has been quite awhile since I have read any sci fi story so I was interested to see what my older self thought about one. I was pleasantly surprised that I found myself enjoying it.
It's a simple story of a young woman, Catherine being rescued by an older butch space trooper Nat and them falling in love. One, for the first time and in the process discovering she is gay and the other finally letting herself be loved. They have adventures in new worlds, thanks to some pirates, who are more complex than first appearances.
As a story set in the future, I was a little disappointed that there still appeared to be homophobic and misogynistic attitudes, even slavery. However, I see there was a need for conflict and frankly sometimes I think women's rights are going backwards now, so who knows?
This is Ms Luck's first outing as an author, there is some room for improvement and a bit more polish but a solid effort first up. I received an ARC copy for an honest review.
I have put this book on a back burner for a long time. Please don't ask yourself...how long? Long enough to not remember. Enough said about that stupid move. Way to go K.C. LUCK!!! For a first time author, well done. I did not think I was going to like this book at all. More description on the characters, a tiny bit more proof reading for typos, misspelling etc. (I seen far worse) these are merely minor critiques. Your story blasted me right into super reader mode. I could not put this book down. Readers read about the book for the story. Then READ THIS BOOK! This book will keep you in the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Ingram you at the beginning as a simple love story than puts you into orbit and takes you on the galaxy ride you will not soon forget
I am looking forward to the second book to this series Save Her Heart, so whenever it is ready, I will read it before I pick up another book. I will not do again what I already told you I did at the beginning.
This was an amazing book. This is not a trope I read, so I was generally surprised with this story. Of course, it had all to do with the author, KC Luck. She's a fantastic writer and this book certainly proves it. Although Sci-Fi, KC was, for me, able to make it all seem real. She blended a multitude of emotions, which all culminated in a beautiful love story. I would highly recommend this book, even if Sci-Fi isn't your cup of tea. You might be surprised. I was. It's well written and kept me on the edge with the anticipation and expectation of what would happen next. It's a book hangover type of read, for sure. Thanks for sharing your great talent, KC.
I have to remember I'm not the author of this exciting book. I will share that emotions of all characters was effectively described through dialogue and not a lot of internal "telling". That's always refreshing. An 11 year Space Ranger veteran losing all sense of direction because of an 18 year old? That was far fetched. A deep-cover operative not hailed as a hero? In a nutshell, the book was a good story and got more exciting when the pirates became a large part of the story. I recommend this book for readers who like strong women in military roles with scars, nightmares, and big hearts.
I just finished this book for the second time. It is an action filled read with characters that are strong but have a bit of a hard time coming to terms with their feelings. There are a few times I wished they would just stop biting their lips in worry and just say what they feel. All in all a good read and as I am about to read the next book I was glad I re-read this first one to reacquaint myself with these characters.
Update: Just found this on Audible and I just had to get it and the next story.
I’ll agree with other reviews that the timeline of events bothered me at points. I feel like they needed more time to fall in love and maybe let Nat get a little action before she declares her love... I’ll ask again- why does everyone want more on Sal? I could pretty much read about Nat all day. The story is a quick, fun, light read and though very out of the norm for my style the sci-fi wasn’t so over the top that it made it unreadable for me. Even if it’s Sal (what about Dee instead?) I’ll read the sequel(s)...
I couldn't stop reading this book. This book has a little bit of everything, Comedy, Adventure, Romance, Space. This book definitely had me laughing at parts, then going "oh man what's going to happen". I really like the characters and how they interacted with each other. Sal is definitely my favorite character in the story. There needs to be more with these characters. Will be recommending this story to anyone I can.
A Great Entertaining Story A wonderfully written sci-fic story by K C Luck which I read in one sitting. It’s got everything I love in a sci-fic story, space ships, battles, chases, lots of fast paced action, romance. I totally loved the characters of Captain Natalie Reynolds, Catherine Porter, but my favourite is Sal. I would love to read more about Sal. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this entertaining book and have put K C Luck on my favourite Author list.
This is the first book by this author that I have read and also the first sci-fi I have read in many years. I have been thinking of reading it for a while and now I am asking myself why I didn't read it when it first came out.
I loved the storyline and the main characters of Natalie (Nat) and Catherine and I also liked a secondary character by the name of Sal. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Not a person whose into outer space stories, but K. C. Just made me a fan. From star wars back in 1980 something this story got me hooked.
The battle with the pirates was my favorite scene. The ending, however, seems to be the norm, for I have read similar ending in the fire department, police departments now for space rangers.
Daring romantic rescues in space with a lesbian couple - sounds fun right?! I was prepared for cheesy, I could have coped with the fact it didn't need to be set in space - although if you're looking for even vague references to science you will be disappointed. I was not prepared for the multiple threats of sexual assault and sexual slavery (yay, space pirates?) Or the borderline dubcon with the major power imbalance for the main couple. DNF. 60%
This book is primarily a romance which is set in space and has a little adventure to it. With that genre in mind I enjoyed this book. I liked how it switched points of view between the two main characters so you could really get to know them. One was quite young which I struggled with (personal opinion) but having her point of view helped to ensure it was fully consensual. I am now very excited to read the sequel!!
