Escaping Yellowstone

Rate this book
Deep in Yellowstone Park, near the Continental Divide, two scientists, Lisa, an astronomer, and Cody, a geologist, watch the sky hoping to see what Lisa has described as the biggest non-event in the history of asteroids passing by earth. But the science of tracking asteroids is not perfect. There are always unknowns. They say, “the devil is in the details.” This devil is named Demon and it is on a collision course with Dark Angel, a large asteroid that has been predicted to skirt by the moon two days before Christmas. Young and stunning Lisa Wilson and handsomely rugged Cody Street are at the beginning of a romantic relationship and have brought their parents and siblings to Yellowstone Park to spend a Christmas holiday together at the snowbound Old Faithful Lodge. Travel, this time of year, is limited to snowmobile or snow taxi, and Cody has promised them the most memorable white Christmas ever. Months earlier, from the mountaintop Mauna Kea Observatories on the island of Hawaii, NASA scientist Dr. Lisa Wilson and her team closely track a group of asteroids heading toward earth. The best astronomers in NASA agree there is no danger to earth. The simulations show the asteroids will narrowly miss the moon. At the same time, three thousand miles away, USGS volcanologist, Dr. Cody Street is getting ready for another memorable summer at Yellowstone National Park. He is investigating unusual ground movement and unpredictable geyser activity. In an effort to understand the ebb and flow of the ground in the caldera, Cody determines the moon may be acting on the sea of magma under the Yellowstone Caldera, similar to the way it causes the tides in the oceans and he turns to Lisa for answers. Now, Lisa, Cody, and eleven others are trapped deep within the bowels of the Yellowstone Caldera without transportation, communication, and proper clothing to survive the artic temperatures. To make matters worse, the strange events in the heavens are causing violent volcanic activity within Yellowstone and around the world.

A great book for the adventurer in all of us.

I love a good book, could hardly put it down. I felt like I was part of it, like I was experiencing it. I'm looking for my next

Cody and Lisa's Excellent Adventure

Everything that can go wrong...This is a wild romp once it gets going. Escape fiction at its finest. Not factual--fun!

This novel takes a different approach from the other Yellowstone-erupts novels. In this case there are three asteroids that are predicted to pass near the moon. Instead, they all hit the moon, sending the moon thousands of miles closer to the Earth. This leads to massive tidal problems and the eruption of, yes, Yellowstone.

The main characters are Cody who works at Yellowstone but falls prey to office politics. Lisa, an astronomer, is the woman who learned about the asteroid problem. Thinking everything will be okay she goes to visit Cody.

Who happens to be at Yellowstone still. Further, their two families have come there to meet (Cody and Lisa are an item) when everything goes to hell in a handbasket.

The story then becomes one of survival as earthquakes, lava and massive snow all seem to work together to stop them from escaping. The story gets quite exciting at that point.

The story is intriguing, a little too much in-depth science for my taste. But that is not why I gave this a 2 star rating. I read the book on my kindle and it is full of typo's and wrong words (since instead of sense). I don't know how Ebooks are created, speech to text, or hand typed, someone needs to read it and correct it before releasing it.

A nice, quick, entertaining read

I think the greatest takeaway for me with this book is the way the characters are treated. Each character, even if they are minor characters, is unique. The science is fun and not overwhelming. Overall a good time and suspenseful when needed.

I'll read more from this author

I enjoyed how fully written all the characters were. The science was sound (except for the late observatory in Puerto Rico). I especially liked the epilogue.

Most of all, it was a fun read.

A great escapest read. It's not literature, it's a fun read. Truth be told i did skip a little ahead in a few spots, but a few years from now, I'd read it again. I have modest expectations for this type of book. This beat them.

It was a great story and well put. I love the new idea the author had when he put the story together.

Not just about the volcano.

Set your skepticism aside and enjoy the story. The characters are well drawn. The plot is fast moving and the story is interesting. Is it believable? I'll never tell...

Excellent book. Rarely read a book in one sitting but I did this one. Loved the characters. Between the asteroid and volcano it was non stop action

Fascinating plot

The story has a fascinating plot, but the writing badly needs editing with misspelled words and various grammar and punctuation problems throughout.
