Mini-coffee table picture book, that is the book is a small brick sized edition, not the table.
Has a few paragraphs and glossy photos of each national park along with some basic facts such as when established, size, and things to see and do.
Visiting Mesa Verde National Park last year, 2017, we picked up a set up postcards of each of the 59 parks done in the old travel poster style. We’ve never thought of things in a ‘bucket-list’ fashion, but they inspired us to try to visit all the parks, sooner or later. So we’ll use this book as kind of a checklist, 20 some done and packing the car for the next trip…
In honor of National Wildlife Day, let’s talk about America’s National Parks - a great place to see wildlife! This is essentially a picture book, but it deserves all the stars in the world. I’m an aspiring avid hiker, and I plan to sticky note the heck out of this to track my progress through America’s National Parks. • America’s National Parks is an A-Z collection of all of our national parks, with some history, stats, and fun facts thrown in. It took me a while to get through because I kept pausing in awe of the sheer beauty of the photos. I’ve only been to a few of these places, and this book has lit a fire in me to see them all. I’m a little bummed that it didn’t include a map of the USA with all of the parks marked, but I could never take a star away from a national park. Five out of 5 stars it is! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • Follow me on Instagram & Twitter @whatalexreads for book reviews, recommendations, and more!
This is a book full of beautiful photographs, along with short descriptions and history of our national parks. It makes you realize how vast and diverse the geography of our country is, and also appreciate men like John Muir and Teddy Roosevelt who fought to preserve it for all of us. While there is still wild, unspoiled land and old growth forests, it's startling to hear facts such as Glacier National Park, which had over 150 glaciers when it became a park, now has only 2 glaciers, and those are both expected to disappear within 9 years. I suppose we will have to call it the Park FKA Glacier National. Though I've always been too busy just trying to make ends meet, I hope to visit some of these parks before I die.
America's National Parks is a coffee table book consisting primarily of gorgeous photography starring the national park's landmarks, general scenery, and wildlife. It is organized alphabetically, giving the reader a little information about the park's background, the activities there (such as hiking, horseback riding, boating, etc), as some information about why the park is special and/or interesting. However, the real focus of the book is on the images, and they are amazing for their variety and visual appeal. I got this for christmas, and - as a national park enthusiast - this is definitely the kind of book that I would be proud to gift to someone.
