Get Your Spirit On! Devotions for Cheerleaders

Rate this book
Today, 80 percent of schools in America have a cheerleading squad. In fact, according to current statistics, there are 1.2 million cheerleaders ages 6-11 in the United States, and another 1.6 million ages 12-17. Cheerleading has been called the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., and it's easy to see why. With the addition of All-Star cheer squads, girls are now able to showcase their athletic ability, showmanship, and spirit in All-Star cheer competitions, as well as support their home team in traditional game settings. Thus, more and more girls are becoming cheerleaders!

Media moguls have picked up on this growing subculture of cheerleaders, which is obvious by the success of such reality shows: Cheerleader Nation, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team and Cheer Stars to name a few.

That's why it's the perfect time for a devotional written especially for this growing group. Get Your Spirit On! is for girls ages 9 to 12 who are already cheerleaders or who aspire to be cheerleaders. This upbeat devotional offers one entry per week for 40 weeks (which should cover a typical cheer season) and features a prayer (Megaphone to Master); a scripture (Strength Training); a thought-provoking question (Fire Up!); a journaling section (Ready. Ok.), a say it out loud declaration (Give a Shout!) and an action step (Jump Into Acton!), as well as Fit Tips, Fast Stats about cheerleading, and words to actual chants and cheers.

Whether done on her own or with her cheer squad, Get Your Spirit On! is sure to lift every cheerleader's spirits and deepen her relationship with God, as well as strengthen the bond with her teammates.

It's a 40-week journey to a closer walk with God.

This book is a great 40-day devotional for any girl interested in cheerleading.

Each day's passage contains a scripture verse, a message, another scripture, a motivational call to action, a prayer, a journal prompt, an activity, and a fast fact.

The book is easy to read and pertinent to the lives of girls from tweens through teens.

Michelle Medlock Adams is the perfect author for this text, having not made the squad as a high school freshman, then making it as a senior. She brought her cheerleading expertise to her role as the mother of two cheerleaders, as a cheer coach, and in her related writing.

My copy is going to a granddaughter who cheered during this school year. So happy to have this relatable wisdom to provide as a blessing to a tween with the rest of middle school and high school awaiting her.

I love everything author Michelle Medlock Adams writes, so when I was offered an advanced copy of "Get Your Spirit On!" I couldn't resist, even though I've never been a cheerleader. And I'm so glad I read it!

Michelle brings her genuine sense of love, warmth, and humor to this book. It's obvious within the first couple pages that not only does she know what it's like to be a cheerleader, but she loves those who cheer!

More than anything, "Get Your Spirit On!" made me realize that Christianity is a cheer sport. It's all about encouraging one another in the faith. And that's something to get excited about!

If you cheer, or you know anyone who does, be sure to pick up a copy of "Get Your Spirit On!"

Michelle Medlock Adams captures the spirit of cheerleading and the Spirit of God in this devotional that had me flipping down memory lane. As a former basketball and wrestling cheerleader in high school, I remember the long practices, desire to quit, and the reward of a job well done. Michelle cheers you on and points you to our biggest cheerleader, God. Each devotion has a prayer (Megaphone to the Master), a new cheer to learn, a bible verse and more. I highly recommend this devotion as an individual or a group study.

What an inspiring and positive book. The entire book is focused on developing positive and spiritual growth in girls that are cheerleaders. I found the book inspiring and well-written. This is a must-read for any girls that is or is aspiring to be a cheerleader. I think the Christian Principles weaved into the book to be the most important part of it.

This cheer devotion for 9-12 year old girls totally delivers on the title. The short devotions are easy to read & the tips, action steps and cheers mix it up a little—not your ordinary devotions. The fresh format and creative ideas make this book a fun choice for cheer teams to do together or for cheerleaders on their own. As a mom of four, I would even recommend this as a mother-daughter devotional for cheer moms & kids. Topics apply to teens, tweens & moms alike and the questions and challenges give you something to think about and act on. Excellent & energetic! I highly recommend this book for tween girls.
