Historical fiction intertwining the construction of the Hoover Dam with the growth of Las Vegas. Well written, strong characters, great primer to The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged.

A fictional piece that loosely portrays historical figures. I struggled with the many racial slurs and degrading sexism towards women... had to keep telling myself “freedom of speech, even if I don’t like it” but I made it through.

Regarding the building of dams- if the information can be trusted, I learned a lot. That was the more interesting aspect that kept me going.

Having driven the old road around and through and across Hoover Dam, this book is a wonderful glimpse of hard working men and engineering. Visit the Boulder Dam hotel and you can envision "Big Red" and all the work that took place in building the dam. Man can achieve great things.

About the building of Hoover Dam. Very readable. Probably will read it again in the future.
