After King Triton finds out his favorite daughter Amarine has fallen in love with a human prince, he destroys her grotto in a fit. He’s determined to find her prince and unleash his anger on him as well. But as he searches the shore, he realizes he has no idea where to find Amarine’s prince, and he finds himself drawn to a woman on the beach. American Alexandra had come to the new city of Monte Carlo determined to get a job as a dancer, but she finds herself shut out by international dancers. She ends up on the beach, dancing and drinking her depression away. King Triton knows that there are other ways to release anger and frustration than just destroying things, and approaches the dancer on the beach.

This is a very short tale. It really just covers one night with one large sex scene. And that’s fine with me. I like short tales. It should be mentioned that the guy on the cover looks nothing like the merman in the book. This is King Triton from the Disney Little Mermaid story. So, think long white hair, white beard, pointed gold crown, and a very broad chest. I do like that it centered around Triton from Disney. I always loved the supporting characters in that movie, and he had so much depth to him and parental love for his daughter. And that comes forth here, too. Since it picks up from the movie, starting at the confrontation where he destroys her grotto and then storms off. Where I was let down, was Alexandra. I was annoyed that she just decided overnight to become a dancer, and then tried to get a job at a top dance hall without any training. It takes years to learn to become a dancer. So, her character didn’t really ring true to me and didn’t really fit the time period. And I didn’t care for some of her attitude during the sex scene. That one moment she kept referencing as a take charge moment, I kept thinking ew… and it felt forced and uncomfortable. In fact, quite a few moments during their sex scene felt forced and uncomfortable (like being chained to a rock) and more like a power thing rather than a passion thing. This didn’t really sell me on continuing the series (especially since Alexandra didn’t really seem in love with Triton, but just with the empowerment of sex with a god), but it looks like the next book actually centers on Amarine (aka Ariel) after her marriage with her prince which I haven’t really seen covered before since usually the books just end on the happy marriage, but never really having the two worlds and her background really interact with the palace life. So, I am tempted to continue on (especially if her sisters actually play a part. Don’t know if they will, I’m just hoping. So often they just get lumped as one conglomerate and not really mentioned. Kind of like the Twelve Dancing Princesses. They always just focus on the youngest or the oldest and everyone else gets lumped together). And for the record, I didn’t care for the voice-over at the beginning or the end.

Loving this author and her whole new genre of steamy romance!
A delightful discovery indeed! I’m always a fan of heroines who aren’t afraid to be themselves and own who they are and what they want. And this book not only gives us that in Alexandra, but also thoughtfully depicts her journey there. Even though it’s a novella, there are enough of the characters’ stories, struggles and choices to let us really grow to know and love them. Add to that the incredibly steamy scenes and I’m hooked (no pun intended)!
I’m not always a fan of paranormal/shifter, but I found myself loving the way the magic of the water and Triton’s power over it interplayed with Alexandra’s “magic” in her dancing and the power of them all together.
Who knew that paranormal/fantasy/Historical/mythical/exhibitionism/light bondage could be woven together to make such a great story?! Totally loved this book and can’t wait for more from this author!

This book is more or less erotic fanfic of what it would be like to bang King Triton from Disney's Little Mermaid. And I was surprised by how much I liked this story. Straight-up erotica isn't usually my jam (I'm demisexual), but these characters had a mutual understanding and finding each other was the answer to a question they both had about their lives. There were some typos and some awkwardly worded sexual moments, but overall it was beautiful and well-done. The author wrote a powerful, angry, alpha male type hero and then had him very turned on by his partner taking the reins and putting him where she wanted her. It was the perfect balance of that sexy powerful man trope without tipping into asshole territory, haha.

I only wish the story ended with actually showing the heroine instead of ending with a narrated epilogue telling us instead of showing us. I was really looking forward to that moment and being told it happened just fell flat for me.

Anyway this is a great quick read well worth your time if an erotic short with Little Mermaid's dad is your particular flavor of jam.

Get ready to be transported to a different world…to be immersed into the sea with Triton & Alexandra, who meet by chance, or possibly destiny, under the sparkle of the stars & in the currents of the sea. There’s an amazing abundance of deliciously written, steamy romance packed into a mere 6 chapters. You will likely feel delightfully satisfied but still left aching for more. It was a quick read that had me captivated the whole way through. I wondered if Triton would love again & which one of these red hot lovers, who refused to be cooled by the sea, would eventually give up their world to join the other. But the ending that came wasn’t what I expected at all…it was even better! It spoke to my French heritage, my dancing gypsy heart & my love of the sea. Madame de Boudoir has managed to get the ultimate review that all romance authors pine for: This book got me pregnant. Enough said. Bravo! Encore!

"The movements of her body had changed him. In the way a wave shapes a sea cliff, his armor had been eroded. He had come to this beach with something burning in him, & now it had washed away forever."
