Can you blame a guy for being ticked? Roy is just minding his own business one beautiful West Virginia day, avoiding run-ins with his psychotic ex, and mowing the graveyard grass to pay the beer bills. Then, out of the blue, he finds himself at the bottom of a grave with no way out until someone finds him. It wasn’t the ideal situation but, someone did find him and changed his life forever. Now Roy has to contend with his crazy ex and his crazy new life, along with trying to convince his crazy best friend, who believes himself to being doing God’s work, not to kill him. And there are still bills to be paid too, but what’s a fledging Vampire to do for work when so much of the day is ruled by sunlight?
While mowing the lawn in an old area of the cemetery, Roy accidentally falls into an open grave. To his horror he discovers a coffin and as he frantically tries to get out, a pale well dressed man suddenly appears before him. Roy feels a sharp pain in his neck before losing consciousness.
When he awakens, he’s confused and disoriented. As the night progresses however, he slowly comes to realise he has developed powers in the form of speed, strength and night vision. Roy assumes his imaginary powers are the result of a coma and doesn’t give them much credence at first.
Falling asleep in his truck, he wakes up the next day to the smell of burning meat and realises it’s his own skin burning in the sun. Before long, Roy develops the taste for blood as well as additional powers.
Seeking refuge in the grave he fell in, Roy is astounded when he runs into the same man who bit him the previous night. Surprised that Roy survived the transformation, he introduces himself as His Royal Highness Tsarevich Alexi Nikolaevich Romanov of the House Romanov. He tells Roy that he had been asleep for many years before Roy disturbed him. He tells him that he hadn’t planned on siring anyone but perhaps Roy would ease his boredom. A bemused Roy, allows himself to be taught the basic ins and outs of a being a vampire.
Roy’s time with his sire is cut short and he is forced to turn to his childhood friend for help, but Roy is in for a shock when J reveals a secret of his own...
The book is told from Roy’s point of view. As he recounts the night he was bitten, one can’t help laughing at his reaction to his new found powers as well as the ridiculous situations that he finds himself in.
I loved the dry witted banter between Roy and J. Roy is a regular guy, albeit obnoxious, sarcastic and irresponsible, while J appears to be the mature and sensible one. To Roy’s chagrin, J’s first instincts in learning that he’s a vampire are to stake him with hilarious results. As the book progresses, however, it becomes obvious that the two childhood friends share a deep bond.
It’s important to note that this book is not for young readers (despite the cute cover) as it contains racy language and mature themes.
This was my first introduction to this author and I found it an entertaining read. If you’re a fan of the vampire genre and enjoy paranormal coupled with dark humour, then this is the book for you.

This author is new to me. When it's an author whose books I have not read before, I never know what to expect. I am pleased to say the author did a great job on this book. It was very entertaining and well written. I loved how she did a paranormal story so different than other books in this genre. Roy is just a regular guy living a normal life. Trying to stay out of the sight of his crazy ex. One day he was in the cemetery mowing the grass, next thing he knows he is in a grave and can't get out. And he is no longer human. This book has paranormal and it also has a lot of humor. It is really different than other vampire books. I found myself laughing and really enjoying this book . This is not like other books you don't read about ripping out throats or killing just to kill. I loved how it was different and I would definitely recommend it. The author did a great job of making this book the exception to the rule. She put a fresh spin on vampires. A great entertaining read.
