Promises are great - until you have to choose which ones to honor.
With a friend kidnapped by the Dusk Covenent and urgent messages to deliver to the Dominar, it looks like Amel will be forced to choose between loyalties again - until her friends' choices take the decision out of her hands. Now, she has to follow ancient prophecies to a place of power or risk losing all of them to her enemies.

I know you guys are tired of hearing me telling you all how much I love this, and how much I love/hate the endings! ❤️❤️
That was so awesome! We see Amel and Raolcan together to face many dangers, to find truths and to fight for one true purpose! There's even a small disagreement between Amel and her dragon in the beginning, which I actually liked because despite their arguments, they still love each other and will do anything to keep each other safe
So, again Amel has to go and save her friends, but because of her bonds and promises, she can't rescue them first. We see Amel and Hubric's relationship grow stronger as well. No longer are they apprentice and mentor, but now they're friends, perhaps even family
The character developments are to be praised in this book, I love seeing Amel grow in this series, such a sight to behold.
And I love her growing relationship with Leng, I am rooting for those two! They need to settle down and get married asap! But after how it ended, once again we have more questions to be answered!
By this point in Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series I’m starting to question whether I should start giving other serial series a try. Then I remember none have hooked me as tightly as this. Thus, I continue to power through these reads, desperate to see what comes next.
Dragon School: First Flight, book one, sucked me completely into the world – it was so much more than I’d expected, and I couldn’t wait to get more. Dragon School: Initiate, book two, sucked me in even deeper – it showed me there was more to the story than I’d originally thought, ensuring I would pick up the next. Dragon School: The Dark Prince, book three, was a very important book in the series – it may not have been my favourite book, but it was vital to the overall story. Dragon School: The Ruby Isles, book four, continues to move things forward in a wonderful way – it may not be my favourite of the stories, but it is another important addition. Dragon School: Sword, book five, was another brilliant read, adding more to the series – it was also the book that reminded me why I was following the series in the first place, pulling me back in after a short hiatus. Dragon School: Dusk Covenant, book six, added plenty of new twists – more than enough to ensure I remained ensnared with the story. Dragon School: First Message, book seven, brought even more to the table – more was added to the storyline, plenty of things leaving me curious as to what would come next.
As with the prior books, Dragon School: Warring Promises was a wonderful quick read that had me turning the pages and left me desperate for more. It had all the usual fun of a Dragon School read – action, new information, mysteries, and great characters – yet it was the ending that hit the hardest with this one.
The endings of the Dragon School books always leave you excited for more, but this one did so in the biggest of ways. Honestly, that ending – I cannot begin to explain how excited it left me. I have so many questions, there are so many things I cannot wait to see, and I’m so excited for more. Without a doubt, my favourite ending of the series thus far.
In fact, the ending was enough to make me forget about how I’m not really feeling the romance element that is slowly growing throughout this series. When the romance was first introduced, I was all for it. As things have progressed, my feelings have diminished rather than grew. I’m hoping this will change, though.
Overall, this was another wonderful addition to the series. Bring on number nine!
It's getting better and better and more exciting. Hardly can wait for the next book to arrive. But i know it will come soon. Just love these series. Fantastic series
Ok... that was cool... you could say hell broke loose in this book and I loved it. It feels like most of the world is set in place now and that we're going to get the pay off. I love how the relation between Amel and Hubric deepened this episode, how you could feel how much he felt for the girl he picked up and had to leave behind. I'm rooting very much for Amel and Leng and what I especially love is that even though he felt he had to protect her in the beginning, the roles are very much reserved right now. And I can't forget about Amel and Raolcan. I love how we saw disagreement this book, but how that never lessened the bond between them. They're always there for each other and Raolcan will always protect Amel, no matter what. And well... he might have a few tricks on his proverbial sleeve to do that. I can't wait to read more about those ;).
I also loved the bit of mythology about the dragons we got in this book. And because I need to mention it from time to time because it's so important and so awesome. Sarah K. Wilson does an amazing job in writing a disabled character, a character with a crutch. She does a great job in the reactions people have on Amel, the looks, the small remarks that we do get in our every day life. She doesn't forget about those things. She doesn't forget about the crutch in a fight, but she also doesn't make Amel revolve around that crutch. She is so much more than that and I love how everyone who spends time with her and gets to know her sees that as well (and how those judgments, for example Hubric's, influence how others see her).
I'm glad I already have an ARC of the next installment, because I would not want to wait 2,5 week now to continue reading.
I feel like i said this with every review for this series but talk about a cliff hanger! First message ended with a heartbreaking message saying the dusk covenant has kidnapped Leng! I just love Leng and Amel! we finally see them reunited in the best way! Warring Promises was action packed and full of important information! Just when i think i cant love Raolcan more than i already do sarah drops a HUGE cliffhanger at the end. After seeing the title for book 9 i finally i wasnt taken completely by surprise from the cliffhanger ending.
When Amel puts her trust in the wrong person, she pays a pretty big price. To recover, she and her master must save the day. But what do you do when your vows contradict your loyalty? They must separate, but you get a little jewel of information on Raolcan... And i can't wait to hear him explain this!!!!
THAT ENDING!!! I’m in awe of how much I love this book. Each book has its own draw with the next huge fight and drama they need to overcome, but I felt that this one really hit a new high. Amel and Hubric share a really touching moment where you get to see how much they mean to each other and become the family neither really have. Then of course there’s Leng. I can’t help loving the slight touch of romance the two have. Then Raolcan! I totally didn’t see that twist coming, but can I say that he fits the bill? If the stakes weren’t high enough, well, they’ve certainly reached outer space now. All I can say is that I really can’t wait for book nine!
Dragon School: Warring Promises is the eighth book in the Dragon School series.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I find myself saying this is my favourite book, and this is the most intense book in the series, every time I finish the new one. No difference here. There is something different with this book though, and it is Amel, who lost her way for a moment. Amel decided that her feelings, or what matters to her most, is more important than her duty, her friends, or anything else. It was a bit unexpected at first, but quite understandable after the two life-changing messages she received in the previous book. She does come to her senses, as Hubric and Raolcan do not allow her to lose herself, and remind her of her duties. Amel and Hubric are bonding more like family than friends or apprentice and teacher. She is learning more about the Purples and their riders and gains more confidence. It almost feels like her leg is not even an issue any more. Every time I think that Raolcan could not be any more lovable, the story proves me wrong. I think that by now, anyone who has come to this point in the series has been wanting Raolcan for themselves. This amazing series only makes sense if read in order, which is: Dragon School: First Flight (Dragon School #1), Dragon School: Initiate (Dragon School #2), Dragon School: The Dark Prince (Dragon School #3), Dragon School: Ruby Isles (Dragon School #4), Dragon School: Sworn (Dragon School #5), Dragon School: Dusk Covenant (Dragon School #6), Dragon School: First Message (Dragon School #7), Dragon School: Warring Promises (Dragon School #8), Dragon School: Prince of Dragons (Dragon School #9), Dragon School: Dark Night (Dragon School #10), Dragon School: Bright Hopes (Dragon School #11)and more books have been announced. Story-wise, I have a feeling that this is the most informative book of all. The story covers much of the history and prophecies, and nicely rounds up the big picture. Most of the unknowns are explained and the story moves ahead full speed. The war is brewing on the horizon and the author concludes this installment with a bombastic revelation, or two.
Leng has been captured; Amel is with Hubric, Savette and Rakturan at the opening of this episode. Amel is faced with a moral dilemma: go search for Leng, her beloved or honor her vow and stay with Hubric. Once again, she chooses the honorable course, and the life-threatening battle certain to come. This book clearly shows that people have difficult choices at times, where they can be selfish and abandon their word, or they can decide to live up to their vows and face the future with a good conscience. In the end, we see that by doing the right thing, she is able to help defend and save Leng just as she had wanted, but having kept her honor. This lesson is one we all need to learn, and be reminded of from time to time. This episode ends with Leng freed, removed from danger and reunited with his dragon. We learn why the spot on the river is called the “feet of the river”, and there is a revelation about Amel’s dragon Raolcan. As always, we are eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
Damn! That was quite heavy and intense and I've been glued to the pages from start to finish. This part of the story was very action packed and I really have the feeling that slowly everything we've learned and everything we've seen is coming together for the great climax.
I keep on saying it in every review, and I'll keep on saying it, but Sarah K.L. Wilson did a really great job when it comes to the representation of a disability. I love how she throws in those remarks we hear daily, sometimes echoing how we feel ourselves. I love how she describes Amel's thoughts, fears and worries.
Apart from that I really love the relationship between Amel and Raolcan and how they always have each other's back. Sometimes they're fighting, they don't always agree, but in the end they always find their way back to each other. And I love the relationship between Lang and Amel, where he's more like the damsel in distress and she's his princess in shining armor.
And with that ending, I'm really glad I have an ARC for the next book so I can already continue!
So each review I leave for each book in this series I keep saying how much I love these books and how awesome they are. I never think each book can get better then I read it and it does. Warring Promises is exciting and contains adventure like the others. There's more fighting in this book than there has been in the others and we're really in the grip of the story now. I'm not quite sure how many books there'll be altogether for this book but I'm loving every single one we're getting. Raolcan really is my favourite, I've always loved Dragons and if I could have one then I'd want one just like him. He always brings lightheartedness to parts of the story where things are difficult for Amel, but he also brings a lot if wisdom with some very wise words. There's a lot that he's "forgotten" to tell Amel so far which she discovers in this book and I love how he just passes it over like it's nothing. I'm really looking forward to reading the next book.
Author Sarah K.L. Wilson has made me a huge fan of this type of fantasy story. I can't get enough of this series of hers! I feel like with every book released the story continues to get better and better. It doesn't stop amazing me. I am still fascinated by this world of dragons and riders and magic of good and evil. It has everything from action to suspense to tear inducing moments. At times, i found myself not being able to stop reading, once i started i had to finish! It is such an awesome story! I highly recommend this series. The characters are great. I have a soft spot for Amel the main character since the beginning. She is such a strong female lead character. And never gives up! And her dragon Raolcan, who i can't praise enough he is the most kick ass dragon ever!!! I love the interactions between Amel and her dragon. TEAM PURPLE all the way!!! Can't wait to see what happens next in this epic series!!! LOVE IT!!! I received an ARC copy of this book.
I loooove this book and I kinda like the part where Raolcan is flaming everyone and all of that but also Albhski FOR ONCE speaks into amels mind but I'm still questioning if that kind of breaks the dragon rule or something like that. I'm still waiting for Amel to become Colors so she can FINALLY be with Leng, but knowing my luck it'll be later on in the series :( . This is a great series, but I'm a liiitle bit angry that (even though there are 20 books) each book is sooo small. I recommend it to anyone who likes action in tiny bites (i stuck with it because of the action even though i like bigger bites) and its FULL of dragons!!! I read dragon books and I love this book. I'm kind of surprised about Rakturan and Savette though because they are the people you would least expect to be filled with light and truth. Especially Rakturan because he's... well... The Dark Prince! But it's great Nonetheless.

This is one of the best series I’ve read, even though I’ve only read books 7 and 8 so far. The human characters are great, but I especially like the dragons. I love Amel’s dragon, Raolcan, with his sense of humor and the way he knows things that surprise Amel. Even Hubric’s dragon, as touchy as he is, is interesting. Amel is forced to decide between duty and loyalty to friends, but everything works out for the best. As in the previous story, there is danger, suspense, traitors, friendship, and love. This story has a good, but a surprising, ending. I know there are more books to come and I can hardly wait for the next one. If you like stories with magic, dragons, and more, this one is for you. I received a complimentary copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
Another great book. And let me tell you how I would love to be able to visually see this series. I bet it would be amazing!
I'm not really sure how to review this book. It is between a 3 and 4 to me. It truly is non stop action and as alwys full of surprises!
The two major things is tht Amel and Leng finally kiss, which honestly I felt was rushed, but considering she finally found him and they are in the middle of battle; I cannot blame their happiness and relief! Second, was the plot twist ending - Raolcan is a dragon prince! Wtf!! I doubt no one saw that coming! Seems a bit too convenient for my liking, but I'll see in the next book!
Things are heating up, and Amel's travel group is feeling the pressure! Amel is encountering the difficulty of gray moments, where there may not be a 'right' decision. She's feeling the pull of her many loyalties. Watching her process these moments & make impactful decisions shows her growth as a character!
As a said note, not a huge fan of the 'romance' (aka mutual pining but the characters have only been on page together for like 20pg of the 800 or so in the series so far 🫠). Not enough development here, and the slight power difference is not great. I like both characters, I just wish the relationship was approached with more nuance (and also screen time of them getting to know one another).
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters are amazing (Amel and Raolcan are such an unbeatable team!), and the world building is incredible with this series. Each book keeps building and getting better and better along the way. This book may be a shorter read, but it will definitely keep you poised right in the middle of all the action and excitement of each situation.
If you are a fan of dragons, and want to witness humans overcoming physical disability, then you will enjoy this series. Just be sure to start with book one, as each one leads directly into the next, and you do NOT want to miss any of this grand adventure!
Another action packed episode which sees Amel fleeing the Dominion City with Savette, Rakturan, Hubric and their dragons. Amel is torn between her duty to Hubric and the Purple and her vow to help Savette. Adding to this the threat that Leng is captured you can imaging that Amel is between a rock and a hard place. Another epic battle, another fight of the light against the dark, and another rescue of Leng. No crutch lost! And who do we love most? R-A-O-L-C-A-N!! I knew you were something special!! xx
This has been my favorite book so far in this series. We find out a lot about Raolcan in this book, stuff that surprised me and at the same time didn't. Amel wants to save Leng but her mentor thinks it's better to deliver the message to the Dominiar instead. Savette makes their choice for them. We learn a few things about Raolcan but I think this is just the beginning of what we are going to learn about this Dragon. This story just keeps getting better and I can't wait for the next one to come out.
I felt so bad for Amel in this one as well as Hubric. I felt like Hubric was channeling his inner Dumbledore. She is torn between her responsibilities and saving Leng. We get to see the Red Dragons at work in this part. I enjoy the parts with the dragons working or interacting together whether it be for good or bad. Counting down until the next one! I received an ebook at no charge for which I voluntarily provided an honest review.
Picks up right after 7 ends. Amel is worried about Leng but she also has to follow her Master Hubric. Hubric, Amel and their group come across a group of riders with some human shaped bundles. There they find out Riders and dragons are being taken. Things go from bad to worse when they are betrayed and the group is split up yet again. Love the surprise at the end, didn't see that coming at all. I can't wait to read the next one!!
I just love this series! The writing is fantastic and the characters are just awesome! Plenty of action as the Dragon Riders battle a terrible evil. A small group against overwhelming odds. And this book has a "I didn't see that coming" , that you will love! I can't say enough on how good this book is. You have got to read it! It will be hard to wait for the next book!
Another amazing read in The Dragon School series from Sarah K.L. Wilson! These serials read more like long chapters. This is absolutely the best thing I've read from her and she’s a darn good author! A very quick short read that you can't wait to get to the end of the page so you can turn the page and get to the end of the page so you can turn the page and get to the next book, you get the picture. I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
This Series of short stories are Great entertainment for readers looking for World developing, characters That you will root for and keep wondering if The task before Them is managable. Amel is a cripple girl, but she tries Her best to deal with it. Ending as always is something That will make you think: HOW? WHAT? I NEED MORE! RIGHT NOW!
I just finished reading and so my head is spinning. Raolcan is still my favorite character ever. That ending though!! I cannot explain the awesomeness that is this series so I will leave you with this: READ IT!
You will not be sorry once you meet Amel and Raolcan. Their bond and friendship is epic. It will make you want to have a dragon for a best friend.
Truth is with the short stories you just can't put it down.
We get a little bit more action and we're building in this section of the series. Overall with the segmented parts there is a little bit of disconnect but the story is still pretty solid and interesting for the structure that it is given to us.
And the books continue to be awesome! For a nice change of pace Raolcan doesn't always go along with what Amel wants and it is good to see that in the long run makes their bond stronger! All the characters continue to develop nicely and Amel keeps on being my favorite heroine by far! I choose to not write more since I don't want to give away any spoilers :)
Still good but sometimes the actions don’t make sense… like What the heck, her mentor hit her over the head & took her choice away?!! And then raolson agreed. Not. cool. And totally out of character. Overall still enjoying this series but getting a little annoying that they always end on a cliff hanger
