The Goddess and the Guardians #3

A Bond of Sovereigns and Souls

Rate this book
A shattered bond. A world at war.

Diamond has learned to beat the odds but soon discovers triumph in one battle does not win a war.

The fae kingdom is in turmoil. The lord of Chaos is coming.

Ripped apart from Hugo, the fae warrior who holds her heart, Diamond embarks upon a perilous journey. Determined to save the souls of the mortal world, she risks everything to forge vital new alliances. But her only bargaining chip is the blood in her veins. Somehow, she must use it to persuade the sovereigns of the Eight Kingdoms to unite in war.

Utterly alone, Hugo endures unspeakable horrors. Fighting demons of his own, he must confront a painful sacrifice. His only hope? That the mighty dragons heed his plea for help. His world and heart will be doomed if he cannot save Diamond before the darkness can end her.

A Bond of Sovereigns and Souls is an action packed, high fantasy tale that will astound lovers of Sarah J Maas and Sabaa Tahir, transporting them into a world of magic, wizards and war.

This series is so powerful it leaves the reader reeling at the end of each book, and with every book we read we become more immersed in the complexity of life surrounding our heroes. This 3rd book is very dark full of magic, strife, deceit, betrayal, sorrow and grief, loyalty and so much love. There are so many new discoveries both Diamond and Hugo are making as they continue to discover their past histories, most of which had been hidden from them or worse still coated in lies. The war is full on now, chaos is coming, Griana ever the betrayer is out to align herself with Erebos thinking to forever rule by his side however Diamond and Hugo have their own thoughts about this. The horror both go through in this book is amazing, as is the strength they both show even when apart and tested to their limits and beyond! I cannot praise highly enough this wonderful series which has taken over my life at the moment, I will consequently go on to read book 4 and hope for some closure and some much needed happiness for the Eight Kingdoms. Well done Karen Tomlinson, this series is a masterpiece.

Karen is continuing to capture me with the world of The Goddess and the Guardians. Diamond and Hugo go through so much in this one. I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'll be careful what I say, but we already know from the blurb that their bond has broken which sends them both into a tailspin. Diamond is determined to be the steadfast queen she's expected to be, but in the process she puts aside Hugo and the anguish they are both enduring. Meanwhile Hugo has to fight for his life and is doing it without knowing if there's even a future left for him.

Diamond and Hugo are both definitely heroic, but also definitely very young. They have a great deal of growing up to do but I think watching them do that will be as interesting as having watched my own kids grow up. Just maybe a touch more hectic. :-)

This volume in the series is very full so pay attention. There will be a lot to bring forward into the next volume. Because up until now life has been about growing and learning their roles in life, and cementing those roles, if they can. Now they must prepare for something far more adult which is too often left to our young to handle. War.

Again, and as always, very well done, Karen! I am so amazed at what you've done in your very first series. I'm no writer, but I know a great fantasy when I read it. Very well done!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and I am leaving a voluntary review written in my own words and of my own volition. That being said, as always, I'll be buying the Kindle copy once it is released. :-)

Enthralling and engaging! I read this story in a blaze of pages. Karen Tomlinson really knows how to write the action, and I love watching our characters struggling through this dark and dangerous world in which they live. Diamond continues to grow into her role as a true power, and I love the balance of her strength and vulnerability. She continues to be one of the most unusual heroines of the genre! Hugo is an excellent romantic lead, and I love their scenes as their feelings for each other continue to deepen.

But that ending!!! Argh!!! Now I NEED to jump into book 4!!!

Holy crap! I think I just about emptied myself of every emotion reading this. Massive thanks for Karen and the publishers for letting me have this pre-release (I signed up for a review edition but never actually thought I'd get it, so I was thrilled!)

So much happens in this book. So much love. So much heartache. So much Violence. So many twists and turns and god that ending is killing me.

I loved the character development in this. Diamond has gone from strength to strength and she is badass in this book, totally badass. Hugo changes amazingly too, in so many different ways, and after everything he goes through I have nothing but respect.

The other thing I like is that this deals with so many serious issues that aren't tackled well normally. In this book though, they are tackled perfectly and sensitively, but with a raw realism that is needed.

I can't wait to read the next book especially given how this ends. I just really want a happy ending for them. I think I'll cry my heart out otherwise.

Naughtiness 2*

Utterly brilliant, I don't knowhow but with each book in this series there is so much more of everything but even better than the last one, truly don't know how our author does it, but she definitely does not disappoint.

As always I will not give spoilers but will say this there is everything plus a hundred fold what you'd expect from Karen especially reading the books so far, from heart wrenching to euphoric, anger, love, happiness and much more, this series is truly amazing as always where good andev are found there are good times and bad, I can't wait for the next book.

Thank you for writing it Karen. Xxx

A Bond of Sovereigns and Souls is the third book in The Goddess and the Guardians series by Karen Tomlinson. It continues Diamond's path as she deals with the revenge from Queen Griana due to her magic and her bond with Hugo, and with trying to build alliances with other kingdoms in order to depose Griana and defeat Erebos. There are several interesting and unexpected events that you will not see coming.

I have fallen in love with this series. I have such a hard time setting it down so I can do things that are necessary, such as sleep or cook for my family. This specific book had me in tears in at several points. There are some good things that happen as well, so don't think it's sad all the way through. If you have enjoyed the other books in the series, this is a must read! I went into reading it thinking it would be the last book, but the story continued to develop and needed to be continued. I can't wait for the next book!

I highly recommend this series for older teens and adults, whether you are young or not! There is quite a bit of violence, and this particular book has a hot sexual scene, so I wouldn't let my younger or mid teens read it (if my kids were still in that age group). The scene isn't graphic and doesn't describe in detail, but it does use descriptions and switch between the partners to show what they are feeling.

This is an action packed book! Diamond and Hugo are back again with all of their allies and enemies. Diamond has finally tapped into her full powers and kicked some ass to save her love. As Hugo recovers, they both know they don’t have much time to just enjoy each other...they need to get back out there and destroy Erebos, Lord of Chaos.

Both Diamond and Hugo go through hell in this book trying to save each and the world. If they fail, the Lord of Chaos will get all of the souls. Griana is still an evil bitch and will stop at nothing to try and get Hugo in her sole control. Diamond and Hugo Greg separated and by the time they’re reunited, everything will have changed. Will it be enough? I can’t wait to find out what happens next!!

This writer has gone from an alright opening to an epic series, into a let’s-break-their-heart emotional rollercoaster. This book is everything you could want from an epic fantasy. Names no one can pronounce, magic, dragons, demons, and adventures around ever corner.

Diamond has grown from an anxiety ridden young lady into a badass killer. She struggles with her emotions but has learned to keep them in check while dealing with adversity.

Hugo...well...let’s just say he is no longer that same either. So many amazing surprises are in store for Hugo!

I’m so excited to read book 4...starting...NOW!

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is the third book in The Goddess and the Guardians series, and it really packs a punch! Diamond's adventures continue with new surprises around every corner. Get ready for loads of gripping adventure with this book, and if you are a fan of fantasy and adventure, you will enjoy reading this book, though I'd recommend you start this series with book 1 if you haven't already read them in order thus far.

I received an advanced copy and this is my honest review. What a wonderful series. The third book grabs your attention and does not let go. You do not know who is a friend and who is an enemy, there is horrific deaths and gruesome battles. Lots of surprises and things happening. You get to know more about what is happening with Lord Chaos and Griana as well as with Diamond and Hugo. I would recommend this book to all. This is a book you cannot put down until you finish it.

Let your imagination run!

The best part of a fantasy is finding those parts of the story that let your imagination run wild. I love creating my own stories for the more minor characters as I read the main story. These books fly by, they're like watching the epic fantasy movies of my childhood. Action! Adventure! Romance! Faeries! Magic! A lil steamy sexytime to keep you interested and plenty of blood and guts. Take a journey with this series, you will be glad you did!

Lacking

This a good story, just not great. It started to lag in the middle for sure. And the thought that an insecure, frightened girl could not only accept being told she is a queen immediately, immediately start to think and behave as one, is just ludicrous. It's almost as if the author forgot who she was writing about, and fast forwarded the character's development, while keeping the rest of the story at normal pace. How many books are left?

The plot thickens!!

Holy guacamole! What are you trying to do to me, Karen?! I'm honestly at a loss for words. Like, for real!??! you ended it like that!!? ABoSaS has raised the bar for this series. I feel that as the story progresses, it just keeps riding higher and getting better than the last book. Amazing!

Cry, laugh, held breath, my heart swelled and I became infuriated at things that happen in this last book in the Goddess and Guardian books. I love when characters grow in a series and this one is one of those. A great world build that just kept growing to the end. I don't think anyone of high fantasy will want to miss this series.

it took me a bit to get back into the story because I had read the previous two some time ago. What an amazing story that has everything, evil, love, loyalty, gods all intertwined. Looking forward to the next

One small complaint: these books suffer from what apparently are auto-correct errors, and a few incomplete wording-edits. The complaint is small because the books are so good I immediately forgave the editing.

Heart breaking

This one really throws an emotional punch, while finally seeing these two bond, it rips them apart and sets them far away from each other. And their pain isn’t the only hit in this saga.... it takes EVERYONE. Ouch.

3.5 stars ⭐️ I did really enjoy this book, but I felt a little disconnected from the plot and characters at times. I absolutely loved the 2nd book so this was just a little bit of a let down. I wish some of the things were better developed so that I felt more connected to what was going on.
