Emma is an aspiring actress who find love with her acting coach John. However, as their relationship blooms, they find themselves drifting apart due to scandals and Emma's rise to fame.
This is the first book I've read from Harmony Kent and I was impressed with her work. Set in the world of theatre, the author does a great job of delving into the pitfalls of the acting and entertainment world. One of the big plots in the story is Emma finding herself in the midst of a scandal, one that threatens to destroy her career and her reputation.
Emma and John click from the first time they meet, and he proves to be her knight in shining armor. He shows his dedication and love to his new lady, although there are some parts where he comes across as a clod. Although, John seems like the perfect gentleman, there are secrets he's hiding from Emma.
This book is categorized as an erotic romance, and the scenes are definitely steamy. If anyone's looking for a hot, romantic story with a side of suspense, I'd recommend this one.

This is a fast-paced read that expertly shows the pitfalls a young actor faces as she tries to make a name for herself in the film industry. Emma is on the cusp of getting her lucky break when backstabbing and a sexual predator stack the cards against her. Matters grow even more complicated when she and her mentor become romantically involved.
Emma is such a well-drawn, believable character, that the reader experiences all of the ups and downs on her road to stardom, right along with her. She's highly likable, as is her mentor, John, and you can't help cheering for them from the start. All the earmarks of a good story are here---great characters, an engaging tale, fabulous dialogue, and superb scene setting. I also enjoyed the behind-the-scenes peeks at the acting industry. Harmony Kent clearly knows her stuff as a writer, including how to deliver a satisfying ending. Well done!

Backstage tackles the plight of Emma, a young woman searching for stardom and a lucky break in the world of acting. Emma soon discovers there is more to achieving success than she realizes. The storyline raises awareness to the issues of sexual abuse that lay beneath the surface in the film industry. Romance and dramatic events mix well together bringing the reader to a few different conclusions, seeking to find out if there will be a happy ending for these likeable characters.

This erotic romance encompasses most of the elements of the recent "Me Too" scandals when actresses have come forward to describe events in which they have been sexually abused by powerful men in the entertainment industry. The characters in the book are well described, particularly the perpetrator and his female accomplice. The sex scenes are graphically depicted and fit well within the narrative. Some readers may be put off by the explicit content, which I found did not detract from the story itself. Although described as a romance the novel is more of a thriller and the plot kept me turning the pages right to the end.

Kent masterfully chronicles a budding actress's journey through the thickets of betrayal, abuse, and love. The erotic scenes are breathtaking for their descriptive power. Whether love-making or sex-demanding, these scenes engage the senses and bring the reader into the story - powerfully. We cheer for and cry with the lead character, Emma. I found that the book, once begun, is hard to put down. Highly recommended.
