Praise for—How to Live a Life of Adventure“After reading the first 20 chapters, I was ready to tackle a grizzly bear, wrestle a sea lion and climb Mount Everest. Not only does Wooldridge inspire you to live a maximum life, he shows you how to do it. I loved the adventures between every instructional chapter. I appreciated how thorough he was with references, key points and guides.” Roger Hamilton, teacher“I am a tomboy. I travel and play sports. I’m also bold and sassy. This book addresses women who love to try everything once, twice and more. Wooldridge covers everything women need to know about traveling, mountain climbing, rafting, horseback riding, backpacking and much more.” Sarah Gingrich, rodeo cowgirl“Emile Zola said, "I'm here to live out loud!" Those words reflect the spirited life and writings of Frosty Wooldridge. His book reminds us that whether we trek high into the mountains or bike up hills closer to home, adventure awaits around the bend. I recommend this book for aspiring travelers as well as armchair explorers. He shows you how to make your dreams come true.” Dan Millman, Way of the Peaceful Warrior“Hands down! This is the best adventure book I have ever read with stories from all over the world. But wait! Wooldridge shows you “how” to go adventuring to make your own stories and fill your own scrapbook with memories. It’s excellent in every way!” Paul Margeletta, father, weekend warrior“This book is extraordinary. The information is so valuable that it should be read daily for inspiration and guidance. I had to stop myself from underlining every sentence in the book. I want to buy this life-changing book as a gift for everyone I know, especially my kids.” Susan Scollozi, housewife, traveler“Half way through the concepts and practices in this profound book, I realized that the author may have meant to show readers how to live a life of adventure, but it occurred to me that this book shows anyone how to lead a very happy and successful life on a day to day basis. His concepts support mental, emotional, educational and spiritual health. Every adult and kid in America needs to read this book. It’s that good.” Arthur Daniels, teacherHow the book will benefit you!• You will discover your strengths, self-confidence and passions• You may engage methodical steps for moving into your own fulfilling adventure-filled life• You will build steadfast convictions and personal empowerment• You will find others to share your adventures• You will discover which kinds of adventures excite you• Check lists for men and women for every kind of adventure• You will never look back with regrets
In his opening chapter, author Frosty Wooldridge, invokes the ghosts of authors from prior centuries to present the reader with the existential dilemma...the same one that sneaks up on many of us about midlife: Am I, the reader, choosing mediocrity, quiet desperation...or something heroic? The quotes are from Henry David Thoreau and Jack London. Author Wooldridge's writing isn't done in a confrontational tone. His style is sincere, even invitational. The book, intended for the ordinary everyday kind of hero. If the reader chooses to continue, the book unfolds into a step-by-step instructional guide for leading a life of adventure. It is complete with lists for preparation, ideas for destinations, motivational vignettes, and suggestions for finding help and support along the way. It is probably the most practical self-help book in my library. This reviewer notes that the book does bog down in the details of its recommendations. The packing lists are lengthy and written from a masculine perspective. And, the author readily acknowledges his built in bias, taking his best shot at formulating parallel lists for women. He also finds the words to cerebrate a fellow adventurer and motivational speaker, Bob Wieland, a legless Vietnam veteran who has powered himself across the North American continent on his hands. I recommend it to anyone facing a midlife passage and wondering: How can I avoid ending up in that army of disappointed men?
Author Frosty Wooldridge has a wealth of experiences and shares them in numerous chapters which are easy to imbibe as manageable bites, and each left me wanting another. He's matter-of-fact in his advice for living a life of intention and rotates stories of his past adventures with directions for making yours come alive! Wooldridge is clearly a planner and an optimist. He knows how to earn money so he can take off on a new endeavor...a recipe that can work for anyone...he suggests starting small to gain confidence, and he pays attention to safety & has recommendations on gear.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book that turned up at our house courtesy of Torin. It was well-timed to show me the mindset of someone who lives to adventure as Torin prepared to set off on her post-graduation "Tour de 14ers" in Colorado and I wondered if it was too risky or unattainable. Reading of the long tours and even higher altitudes Wooldridge explored provided credence to what Torin would attempt. And how nifty that he delved into bicycle touring, mountain climbing and river rafting, which Torin did in that order at the start of her adventure!
This book is well thought - engaging quotes start each chapter and a list of key takeaways follows each essay. If you like lists, you'll be drawn to his format & nuggets...lists of types of outdoor pursuits, examples of amazing adventures, multiple lists of inspiring books, and top adventure ideas by state, even including RAGBRAI in Iowa! One knock I have is that his packing lists are laughably redundant - sometimes mentioning the same item three times in two paragraphs! Other than that, I would recommend this book wholeheartedly...and I already have several times in person!
