The first question to ask in this book is, ‘What exactly is Interdependence?’ As Barry Jones (1995) asserts, it is a concept ‘among the most abused and misused…in popular usage’ with a ‘proliferation of contrasting usages and definitions,’ persuading ‘some observers to advocate the abandonment of the term’ (p3). However, as he later argues, ‘Interdependence’ with reference to many basic processes and conditions affecting economic stability in the industrialized world and survival prospects for the less developed world, remains ‘an analytically important term’ (ibid).
