I liked Millie but the boys felt a bit flat as characters. And even Millie could have been fleshed out more.

The beginning was a bit slow and even boring but after the twist I was intrigued. I had no idea what was going to happen next and I loved the feeling.

Writing was sometimes a bit repetitive and there were times when I hoped there to be more showing and less telling.

I was disappointed that this didn't have a real ending, I hate cliffhangers.

Didn’t interest me as much as I thought it would and there were too many errors in need of fixing in the ebook version that I read.

Young lovers of fantasy and magical creatures will want to get their hands on the rest of the series!

Three friends head out to search for a cure for their fourth friend, Rafe, who falls sick. Rafe became my favourite character from the start: I really felt for the poor little guy and wished I could make him feel better.

The text was a bit simplistic and repetitive, and yet, it works! The reason for this is that we are seeing the world through children's eyes, and so the writing style matches their thoughts, making you feel empathy for them.

The main characters are well-defined, making you wish you had friends like them, and though the story lacks a bit of substance and editing here-and-there, there are also some very original and creative things going on in this fantasy world once ruled by magic.

Beware that you have to buy the next book to find out what happens. That’s why the first 166-page book is free. They just want you to buy the next 3 books in the series, which are under 200 pages and cost $3.99 each. Rafe contracts a magical sickness by touching an artifact. Magic has disappeared from their land, and his 3 friends go in search of a magical antidote. I was enjoying the story and then it abruptly ended with no resolution. It’s one thing to leave a story open for a sequel, and quite another to end on a cliffhanger. This should be disclosed to readers. Now I wasted my time.

A young friend is very sick from magic that touched him and if he doesn't get help soon then he will die. His friends decide to go looking for the magic to cure him. What an adventure they get into. Places no one has gone and the trouble that they find, but they keep going. Good characters, good storyline. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Adventuring

A great story for all ages of preteens learning about life without magic. Their friend Rafe is in a magical coma and naturally the three others are adventuring to find the cure. Will they be in time. Well written.

This book was more engaging than I thought it would be. The storyline was easy to keep up with, and I enjoyed how the thoughts of the characters were presented. The only complaint I have is that the book ended rather abruptly. I imagine that was because the story continues on.
