The Fate Caller #1

Cadence of Ciar

Alternate cover edition of ASIN B07BC59X38

Magic and Mayhem

Both go together in my opinion because if you have one the other is always present. Ciar is the epitome of both and in some ways my furry arch-nemesis. He’s been with me since I was a child. Now he’s followed me to the Menagerie. Except he’s no longer in his canine form, Ciar is now 100% Fae male.

Which I’m not prepared for. Not that I'm prepared for this place at all either. I don’t want to be here. This school is a hen-house for the rich and powerful to reach in and pluck the special people out like fat hens while the rest are fed to the wolves.

Well, except this time there’s one of the big bad ones IN the hen-house. Ciar.
He's the bane of my existence and theirs. Yet in a roundabout way he's also my best friend, and even though he looks at me like I'm dinner--I'm not afraid.

I'm pretty sure I look at him exactly the same way.

Mmmmmm OK so maybe I was a bit harsh on rereading my review

Lets put that down to PMS or some similar affliction just because I can

-------------------------------------------------------------------

OK so maybe 2.5 stars is more fair
I think I'm on a RH overload so I reserve the right to change this rating, it might not look so bad in a few weeks.

First thoughts - a RH book by the author of Facets of Feyrie yesss!
Second thoughts - this basically is Facets of Feyrie only with different characters
- Ciar (pronounced care or car? still unsure) was remarkably like Phobe

Keri we're told is a 25 year old being thrown into the human world after being brought up by the Slaugh because she is about to transition and come into her powers soon. Enrolled in a school for Fae and Mages that will decide her fate/status in life, Ciar comes along as her protector. Now on reading the blurb I thought Ciar becoming a man was going to be a big plot development - its not, it happens within the first few chapters which was the first disappointment.

As a newly awakened Fae she will call her "Triad" to her for her magic to be complete. This is where the harem comes in as her Triad will be most likely her mates. We don't meet all these member's in book 1, this is predominantly Keri and Ciar's story.

this book should come with an extra special snowflake warning

During her awakening she calls her familiar (which of course are the most special familiars ever)
she get a Brownie, she gets more beautiful...etc etc

Keri was my main issue here, you would think growing up with the Wild Hunt would make you a little badass and tough but we don't see any of that - in fact she's told numerous times by Ciar how sweet and kind she is. I would have liked a little more dark in this than eating raw meet and peeing in front of everyone

Ciar too was a let down in the evil department.

Maybe I am being to harsh there were elements of good in this (I just can't name them all right now) and I think other people might enjoy this more than I did, it just a bit of a let down from an author I know can do better. I want more of the dark stuff please....

#2. Rhythm of Rime ★★★

I have seen, heard of & read about a lot of pranks over the years, but I have never encountered anything like this: an author writing an entire book as an April Fool's joke.

Because that is clearly what this is, a joke. And a cruel one at that. Can't be anything else. It is a Fae parody as well as a test of ones' will against the Typo Army.

You have to be extremely high to think this deserved to see the light of day in it's current form. Which apparently most were, if I judge from all them high ratings. What the hell did you people take?!

I love Zoe & her work but this is just awful and ridiculous. The writing is atrocious, riddled with typos and bad syntax and most everything else is stupid. There was a great core idea in there somewhere but it went to waste.

Info-dumping³ extraordinare from the get go. My tablet was leaning to one side with the weight of it in the first 10-15 pages alone. The academy is an invisible joke worthy of the Invisible Man. The enemy is even more ridiculous than anything else. It was like "I am ze Villan! Meow!".

I, very begrudgingly, have to admit that there were a few things that made me laugh. It is like those jokes that you know are bad and kind of insulting but you still laugh at them, even if it just a little.

Man, I wish I was high like everyone else was when I read this. Good prank Zoe Parker but let's not do anything like this ever again, ok? Ok, good talk ✔

Zoe Parker is fast becoming one of my favorite authors, so when I saw Zoe Parker and RH, I was like yes please...

Her fae are definitely NOT like this
description
But more like this
description
or even this
description

She has a way of creating dark, unique worlds and well developed characters that simply work for me and this book is no different. I would have given it more stars but there were a few glaring problems that I just couldn't overlook and that I hope are resolved in subsequent books

My biggest issues with it were 1) It definitely had some very strong parallels with Facets of Feyrie and I hope that subsequent books don't continue to follow this path. 2) I really want to see Keri become a lot more of a bad ass than she was in this book. She was a bit of a let down, yes she is a bit of a special snowflake, and that's OK with me as long as she takes her "special" and kicks some series ass with it, which she really didn't do here, she as too nice, especially for someone who grew up in the dark woods. 3) My final problem was that the story felt incomplete, and maybe that is just because I really wanted so much more, and to just keep reading it. The "villain" of this story was a let down but I do think there is a bigger baddie waiting in the wings behind the scenes that will become more prominent in the next books.

I am very curious to see where this goes, and can't wait to really meet the rest of her harem Triad.

I may or may not finish. Here's a snapshot of my thoughts at the 50% point:

1: Why couldn't Ciar stay wolf-y? So many improvements could be made to the pacing (If this were truly a slow-burn) by creating a mystery around Ciar (what he is) and his feelings to Keri, etc. I'll admit to wanting to read more of him being the merciless trainer (before the book starts) and being generally a curmudgeon toward Keri before we realize that he is endlessly in love with her. We start out with her confusion as to why Ciar is there and then an "oh shit!" realization that maybe he cares. But as readers? We don't care at all about her life-altering realization b/c its literally 2 pages into the book. I don't feel like this is a spoiler because it's revealed about 10% into the book.

2: So. Much. Internal. Dialogue. It just keeps going on and on. Some of it serves a purpose (when Ciar reads her innermost thoughts and that moves their relationship forward). Mostly it just feels rambl-y and lazy on the part of the author. Unveil that in dialogue so we can, I don't know, attach a personality to these two characters?

3: Again, I want more mystery. Here's a hypothetical plot idea: I want to follow Keri's knowledge about the Forgotten Forest--which in this made-up scenario is limited and she has it all wrong--until she realizes her entire upbringing was about something else, entirely. Blammo! World-changing knowledge! Trust is broken! Essential struggles!

4: ...But instead, because everything life-altering and world-changing that has happened in the past has been explained with pages of internal dialogue and description... and Keri is so NICE....And Ciar is so loving...And Keri is so obviously super-duper special. What else is there for me to care about in this book? I'll admit I'm a little curious about the Triad, if they ever forking show up. I have, maybe, a thought or two about who's trying to kill her. Otherwise? I'm bored.

5: Finally, WHAT THE HECK, KERI. I feel like the author has framed Keri as immature and a bit naive for no good reason apart from making up some conflict about her own self actualization. She is holding Ciar at arms length, physically, because of emotional hang-ups that have no basis. This is someone who grew up with her. Who has shown his commitment to her. Who she understands wants to provide and protect her...why is she so tentative about this? Even Ciar asks her this once or twice and we don't get an answer. Maybe if the author dug deeper into her relationship with her mother, we'd understand her inability to receive love or commit. IT's mentioned ONCE that her mother told her she was unlovable. But because we don't know who her mother was, yet, womp womp who cares?

I'm super disappointed with this book, which had a lot of promising plot elements but failed to follow through.

I think what I love the most about Zoe Parker's books is that she lets the Fae be dark, scary creatures and i like that.

I love a dark lead female MC and Keri was quite enjoyable. I was little nervous at some points in the book, thinking, "please don't let her be this stupid" when it came to certain people, but she was not.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series, although, i will admit that i am more interested in learning about Trick's background at this point than i am about Rime.

I am just enjoying the whole storyline as a whole.

I would definitely recommend this to RH lovers.

A TEPID 3 STARS

Overall this was an ok light read, the book follows Keri (25 years old), who is pushed to leave her family and the safety of the forest – ‘hidden places’ since her Awakening is near. She leaves in order to attend a school for Fae and Mages that will decide her status/trajectory in life, once her awakening occurs. However, she won’t be going alone, as the fierce and deadly Ciar, Lord of the Wild Hunt has chosen to go with her.

Having just read the authors book Elusion (book 1 in Facets of Feyrie series), I can say this book has some very strong parallels to it, for example Ciar seems very much like Phobe, and Keri is a to be a powerful ‘monster’ similarly to Iza.

For me Keri, lacked fire and grit as a character, having grown up in the forest, with the Wild Hunt I thought she would be tougher, more kickass, but that wasn't the case.

Also, the tempo of this book for me needed to be a tad faster, and I would have preferred if the book was darker, grittier.

I'm not sure if I will come back for book 2.

What to say about Cadence of Ciar? Have you ever read a book with a little grin that you can't seem to keep off your face? That was this book.

I throughly enjoyed reading this book. Zoe Parker has a wonderful talent for taking the world of the Fae and turning it on its head. You will not find a stereotypical Fae world here. The characters are absolutely wonderful and you can't help but love them and to allow yourself to become invested in their story.
Keri is incredibly sweet and yet a bit naïve of the world around her. She grew up very sheltered & doted on by most of her caregivers, after her mother tried to kill her when she was a child. The one person in her life that didn't shelter her was Ciar. He knew she'd eventually need to know how to take care of herself to took it upon himself to train her as best he could.
She starts out a tad bit negative and in denial about Awakening to her powers. She just wants to go back to her sheltered life and not be powerful. Power isn't something she seeks, unlike soooo many others in this future world of Fairie and Earth combined. She does eventually begin to embrace her fate and want to learn how to harness her powers.
This is a RH and we get to meet all the guys in this book, Ciar is the 1st member of Keri's Triade. What a wonderful 1st addition he is too! The other 2 members we start to get to know towards the end. So those relationships are not as developed yet.
There are some minor conflicting information scenes within the book. None of them are major plot points so do not seriously detract from the story. Overall I don't have anything negative that impact the story as a whole.
I would definitely recommend this book. Just make sure you walk into it realizing it's completely different from Zoe's other series, and the world of Fae is not your typical one.

Re-read - December
Upgrading this to a 5* - few editing issues but i seriously enjoyed this and can see future re-reads.....now I just need the next one :)

I enjoyed this, Ciar is the bomb and damn he's a bad ass.
Keri was a strong heroine, not necessarily a bad ass but relatable - a bit willfully ignorant at times but who doesn't indulge in a bit of denial every now and then????
This world was interesting and unique, you are given info about it throughout the book. There are still some things I don't understand but hopefully will be explained in the next book.
I was a bit worried this would fall in the YA category with her going to school but it is definitely NOT
Very much looking forward to the next book

Dnf 10%-ish

Not sure why this book has such amazing reviews. If you want to know hoe to badly incorporate 'show, don't tell' in a story, read this. Literally everything is told in a boring, teen-ish way. It feels like I'm reading a story written by a 13 year old. Also, the character descriptions *shudder*.

Sadly, because I was looking forward to a good, dark fae story.

I gave this 3.5 stars, mainly because it made me laugh a lot and Ciar and the MC are hella cute together. I kind of hate the only other harem member we’ve met, and the writing had a lot of issues.

The MC is pretty cool, I guess, but everyone else in the book (i.e., the worm, dragon, and Ciar) was cooler. That said, she was refreshingly blunt and quick to realize that her love interest was in fact interested.

The harem was a bit weird because only one guy, Ciar, was in the first 70% of the book. At that point, we finally met Rime, but the last guy was barely making his first real appearance at the end of the book. So basically, as the title suggests, this was the Ciar show. Ciar is a fricking adorable, violent psycho, and I adore him, particularly when he interacts with the MC’s worm (not a euphemism). He dotes on the MC, and it’s super cute. The only time he bothered me was when he commented on the MC’s hairy legs and started shaving them for her. It was kind of cute on the surface, but then it bothered me that the forest creature WHO TURNS INTO A HAIRY DOG was bothered by leg hair. Get over yourself, bud, or she’ll end up shaving his dog form. Or at least, I’ll end up rooting for her to do that. I also thought it was stupid that he never told the MC the truth about their relationship until the events of this book, and I didn’t buy his reasoning for keeping the secret for the past decades. On the other hand, I hate Rime, and I think that hatred has three parts: (1) We don’t even meet him until 70%, (2) by that point, we already love Ciar and will inevitably compare them unfavorably, and (3) Rime is an ass. Seriously, that mofo. I feel bad for him because of his situation, but he doesn’t even act as well as can be expected within those circumstances. As such, I really disliked that the MC held his and Ciar’s hand at the carnival and treated them as if they had equal standing in this relationship. He’s also not respectful of women (e.g., “‘she’s a hot piece of—’ he coughs to clear his throat, ‘she’s a hot woman’”), and that is most evident in his complete lack of concern for the MC’s consent or feelings about their situation. He starts their bond without asking her, so Ciar finishes their bond without asking either of them. Rime was still completely entangled in a relationship with another woman when he started that bond, so wtf on multiple levels. I was relieved that the MC was at least mad about it, but come on. I hope he does some serious development and that the last guy can hold a candle to Ciar. I doubt it, but one can hope.

I had some problems with elements of the writing, such as plot holes:
• Ciar bandaged and fed her when they first met, but she says she never saw him as a human. He couldn’t have done that as a dog.
• It is super weird for the MC to be willing to live in the house where her mom tried to kill her when they could sell the house and buy a new one.
• Ciar taught the MC everything she knows, and he didn’t wait for her to be ready to learn then, so whytf does it take him so long to teach her to use her new magic?
Furthermore, some plot elements confused me. At one point, the MC starts the process of forming some sort of supernatural bond with Ciar but apparently didn’t mean to Claim™ him. They kept talking about how a claiming is totally different from a normal bond, but I have no idea what a normal bond is. What in the world did the MC think she was doing when she bit his neck? Also, the triad roles weren’t mentioned nearly enough in this book, so I couldn’t remember who was supposed to do what. I also saw a pretty big inconsistency. Magic in this world is triggered with a word that is specific to each magic user. The MC initially triggered her magic by saying “existence.” She later learns that her father’s word is “existence” and says that it is “So close to mine that it’s scary and there’s no way it’s a coincidence.” Well, it’s exactly hers. However, later her word is “exist.” Some elements also came out of nowhere: for example, Ciar said, “It’s why you’re more tired and why the brand has started to ache,” but the MC hadn’t mentioned being tired or aching from her brand. I also saw a really bad dialogue tag: “My curiosity drives me to ask.” Well yeah, curiosity is almost always the reason for questions. Side note, at one point, the MC said, “She’s young for a Brownie.” It is impossible for everyone in an entire species to be old, so that makes no sense.

Furthermore, the writing mechanics were a mess, and the book had several punctuation issues that appeared many times: misplaced or missing commas (e.g., “I look behind me and from within a canine face covered in fur so black it disappears in the shadows, green glowing eyes meet mine”), apostrophes in non-possessive plural words (e.g., “the whole Triad of stranger’s thing”), apostrophes in verbs (e.g., “It’s a little bit of a surprise and show’s a facet”) question marks after statements, periods after questions, missing apostrophes from possessive words, and commas within words (e.g., “creatur,e”). I also saw issues such as missing subject–verb agreement (e.g., “The only thing that saved me are”), Shatner speech (e.g., “I know she was some type of—Fae because the Hunt going after her is proof of that—it’s the specific type that I’m not sure of”), awkward phrasing (e.g., “Mada sending me here is starting to make sense and even them sending a guard to look over me”), redundant phrases (e.g., “the pleasurable enjoyable dream” and “not a friendly welcoming place”), too many words (e.g., “I would’ve have kept”), verb-tense shifts in the narration, and spelling errors and typos (e.g., “trip” instead of “trio,” “then” instead of “than,” “fragged” instead of “dragged,” “states” instead of “starts,” “and” instead of “an,” and “who’s” instead of “whose”). I also saw a line break in the middle of a sentence 10% into the book, and the following sentences are just a mess: “Slowly, I pull myself up and then using my arms to hold my weight slide myself onto his lap. My heat solid against his.”

I’m definitely eager for book 2, but I hope the author gets a better editor for it and that she does a better job of preventing the harem from being the Ciar show.

PROGRESS UPDATES
22% “Your time has come to embrace the power I’m gifting you. ‘I have to be honest and tell you straight up I don’t want it but seems like a bad idea to refuse… Faerie.’” Lol!

23% “Several minutes later, Ciar is still muttering under his breath as he pushes the clunky wheel chair we ‘borrowed’ from the school—that’s now holding a happy Corpse Worm wrapped in a trench coat. I even put a baseball hat on him to add to his adorable creepy look.” Omfg I can’t handle this 😂

29% “In that moment I feel free, running through the trees dodging the grasping hands of a man I sorely misjudged. A man who will never leave me, no matter what happens. . . . Hitting the ground hard enough to knock the wind out of me makes me question that conclusion. Spitting out the moss that I inadvertently ate when I slid into the tree base reminds me that I didn’t completely misjudge him.” 😍 Love them

53% “‘The other two idiots of your Triad. You—unfortunately—called ones who don’t know how to act civilized, no matter how strong they are.’ ‘You’re a Puca who eats people.’ I say deadpan. He full on laughs . . . ‘I can pretend to be civilized, Keri.’” 😂 I was getting worried because we’ve only met one harem member so far, but I’m hyped now that I know that they’re worse than Ciar is.

59% This is supposed to be an important scene, but I have to laugh at this line: “You dare cast me aside for progeny?”

77% “His tongue snakes out and licks his entire chin clean, that must come in handy when he licks his own butt. I sputter as noodles rain down on my head. Oh yeah, he heard that. ‘Well, you were a dog.’ ‘I never licked my own butt,’ he protests. ‘Liar, I saw you licking other parts.’ Which is true. ‘That’s a perk of the canine form!’” omfg 😂😂😂

Okay, so I liked this story. I can say the author did get a little creative, I mean more than the norm of other books written about the Fae. However, at times the heroine becomes a bit aggravating with her stubborn attitude and she can be a bit flaky at times.

Now the main alpha hero of this tale is the epitome of a real damn ALPHA and damnit I just love him.

I'm about to embark on book 2 which I hope its a bit better. Heres hoping that the heroine is a little more mature then what she appears to be in the first book... (finger cross) Because I just can't take the ditsy blonde attitude... (no offense to my blonde sisters out there that may come across my review).

Overall this was a good book despite some of the flaws of its characters.

Delightfully new, yet somewhat familiar, world

I love Zoe Parker. She has a way of making even the darkest of characters seem relatable - not that these characters are dark, but there are shadows aplenty. Unseelie. The Slaugh. Lord of the Hunt. And what ever Keri truly ends up being (she’s a fate caller, which is huge and rare, I just think there’s more surprises). This is well written and smoothly done, injecting humor and dry wit through the chapters while teasing the reader with the truth of this world - truths we need to wait to fully comprehend till the next books are out.

Medium burn for individual, slow burn for harem. MMMF, PNR RH. First person, Single POV. Episodic ending (not a cliffhanger, but had from resolves or happy for now ending).

Pros:
- Smooth.
- Love Keri.
- Love Cari more.
- There is darkness here, and kindness.
- The brownies.... I want one.
- So many questions!

Cons:
- Minor editing issues.
- A little confusing in places, had to run to catch up.

I absolutely loved Cadence of Ciar. What a fantastic start to a very imaginative story. Keri is such a fun character. She is strong, capable, and loves girly things. She is so fun, snarky and knows her own mind. What can i say about Ciar? He is mysterious, sexy, dangerous, and completely devoted to Keri. These two together makes the story so much more. This is a RH, but Ciar just captures your interest. He is a force. The pace is slower at times, and at times it picks up pace. I found the pace was perfect for the tone of the story, and felt the right amount of info was revealed about both characters, leaving lots for us to uncover of them in future books. Overall the characters are well written, separate and together. The action and the pace of the story are perfect. I absolutely cannot wait for book two.

This story begins when Keri is being forced to attend a school because is going to Awaken soon. She doesn't want this to happen, and she tries to live on in denial. But when the man she's spent most of her lift sort of hating come with her. She starts to realize her true feelings for him, and he has some secrets that will soon come out. Keri must figure out what she truly wants before it is too late.

This was a great start to this series. I loved the world building, and the plot. It was extremely interesting and pulls you into the story right from the start and keeps you there until the very end. I also really loved the heroine as well. And I can't wait to see what happens with her love life and more in the next book.

This book has great world building and a really interesting plot line. Its really lovely how Ciar has cared about Kerri since she was 5 years old. He has helped her grow into the person she is at 25 mostly by tough love hiding his true feelings from her until Kerri is shipped out of the Dark Forest into a school know as the Menagerie as its time for Kerri to Awaken and form her Triad. Then it gets overly mushy the moment Kerri gets a glimpse of Ciar in his Fae form rather than that of a dog. I felt the book dwelt to much on this rather than spending more time on what should have been a great plot line. The big reveal of who was trying to kill Kerri was such a let down. The ending left me wanting to read the next book as this one does not feel finished.

So far so good. I'm totally digging on Zoe Parker and her stories and this was no exception.

Fae and Earth have converged many years prior and there is now a not-so-easy coexistence between Fae and humans. The one benefit for humans is that now that fae magic has mixed with the world, it has awoken magic in humans as well. For fae and humans alike, if one is to Awaken, it happens sometime in adulthood anywhere between 18-30. All species are to get trained and Awaken at the Menagerie, which is essentially a school, and allows the 1%-ers of this world to see who's got the goods and which of these elite want to collect these magical beings to be in their service.

Keri has grown up with the Unseelie in the dark forest and is pretty much exempt from the political rules of Awakening. Nonetheless, it is foreseen that she must still Awaken at this school and her hot/dominant/broody bodyguard, Ciar (aka original Puca, aka old and powerful dude, aka leader of the Wild Hunt) is to go with her. As it turns out, when one Awakens, power must be stabilized through a Triad. The magic draws these other people who are basically compatible/destined to bond with. It typically is romantic in nature as well as strength, teamwork, etc. So we're on the RH track and I'm not mad at it, but like, Ciar is the man.

I think ZP creates good worlds and good characters. It's a new spin, it's good world building, the plots and arcs are being weaved together. It all works for me and I want to read more. It's a little sexy, a little funny, suspenseful, and def entertaining.

Ultimately it rates a little lower because it's missing something I can't quite put my finger on. I think it has to do with the heroine, Keri, and the POV storytelling. It's all from Keri's thoughts & musings, and though she is 25, her inner monologues come off as immature. (If it was not established that she was 25, I would have thought she was 17/18). She definitely is strong, resilient, and has not had it easy in life. BUT somehow she still has quite a few TSTL moments and her thoughts and actions come off as juvenile. It's a little exasperating to read at times especially when the overall story has so much potential. And it has the potential to take the route as the heroine is the ultimate special snowflake...but I digress.

Sidenote: I would consider this NA. Really because of the heroine and currently they are technically at a school. But I could see this going more adult in nature as the series goes on assuming the h becomes a bit more mature.

There's also a few grammar errors/typos.

At the end of the day, I really did enjoy the premise. I definitely plan to continue on with the series. I'm intrigued and looking forward to seeing where this goes. It ends kind of cliffy. There's def a natural break in the story, but I feel like Book 2 will pick up right where it left off.

I knew, from reading Zoe Parker's other series, that this book had a high chance of being amazing. So, the moment it was out, I jumped right into it without bothering to find out any details about the book itself. And I don't really regret that decision, because, for the most part, it was as good as I hoped it would be.
I actually had to stop reading a few times to simply appreciate how nicely something or other was written or worded. And I loved how some moments of the story could be funny and eye-rolling at the same time. I did not expect the story to be RH, so that was a pleasant surprise as well.
Also, I just really like Fae books, so it's always interesting to see how different author decide to tackle the whole history aspect of things. For the most part, I liked how the author here built the story, even though a lot of things were not clear to me. For example, I honestly did not fully understand the way the world worked, there were just so many rules and regulations and I got confused by it all. And the whole Fate Caller business? Like, I get that she can call someone's fate to them, but what do those marks mean? And are they permanent or what? And what's the point of the Calling in general?
I have a lot of questions, but I also feel like things are only now start gearing up to something, whatever that is, so I hope that the answers would be provided later on.
For the most part, I enjoyed the story and getting to know the characters. However, to me, personally, it felt as though that something special that can warrant four start for the book was missing. Also, I was slightly (yeah, okey, a lot) disappointed by the "villain" person. I hate it when the bad guy is stupid, it just takes all the fun out of reading. I want my villains to be geniuses, the master minds. Or, at the very least, somewhat intelligent. So there is that.

Incredibly Creative Use of Characters and Impressive World Building

4.5 stars

This author’s writing improves with each book she writes. She has an incredibly unique way of weaving a story with relatively typical fantasy character/creature types (faeries, magic users, etc) into a one of a kind book. The world building is impressive, nothing feels forced and the hero and heroine are both very likeable. No unnecessary drama is used as a filler in the storyline and even though the reader can tell the heroine has a lot of learning and growth ahead of her, she is by no means weak. She is strong, levelheaded and my favorite type of heroine. I’m eager to read the next in the series! ... As a relatively new author to publishing there seems to be something minor missing from her writing style which is why I only gave the book 4.5 stars. I can’t quite pinpoint what it is - maybe something extra to get the reader to understand the emotional attachment between the heroine and hero more? I’m really not sure. I enjoyed the first two books this author released as well but they were missing a little something IMO too. Be that as it may, this was quite an enjoyable read and I’ll continue to read anything this author releases.

Not bad but I wish it was slightly deeper

This is not a bad book, but I wish it was slightly deeper. With Ciar and Keri finally get together you kinda felt like they were a couple already. Not only that but them going to the school seems somewhat silly based on the situations that happen later. Some of the things happening are confusing because they aren’t explained well, or are surface deep.

The members of the triad not exactly having feelings for her but being attracted to her, the tension is missing. I’m not sure exactly what I want but there isn’t this emotional tension to keep me interested in their relationships.

And yet other times I felt the emotional impact, so the book does have moments but it’s not all the time.

The villain explained away was too easy. It was also blatantly obvious. In some ways I feel like Keri is too happy? Like she’s not present, kinda loopy and day dreams a lot. I’m not too sure about her.

I’m interested in knowing how this goes, but so far I feel like the only really fleshed out character is Ciar.

Onto the next one.

WOW ! Just when you think it can not get any better , Zoe Parker does it again !

The characters in this book have been built so beautifully, the MC in the book is a Strong female lead, she has the tendency to think in head her a ton and gets caught most the time , she is an ambitious, soft hearted, smart ass that is loved beyond her own beliefs. The male lead throughout most of the book is Ciar a very wise, mysterious, Tall dark and brooding type very alluring ! The story line and world building will make you feel as though you are being pulled directly into their world and makes you want to stay there. The World they live in is as dark and mysterious as the male lead, with many secrets and rules that if your not careful will get you killed for disobeying one.
I find myself never wanting to leave the world Zoe has built in this book, I am absolutely sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next one ! I did not want this book to end!

I LOVED this author's other series, so I was really excited to start this one. I didn't like it as much as the other series, but it was still good and I think now that all of the groundwork is done for the series, the next books will be even better. Ciar is really awesome, I loved him from the start and Keri is an interesting heroine. This is an RH where you really get to know the guys one at a time. I'm excited to see more of Rime and Trick in the next book!

3.5 stars. While the story itself is great it’s a reverse harem which I despise and it was misleadingly not marketed that way. A few things on the characters - I was expecting Keri to be far more bad ass given her upbringing but instead we’re constantly told how she’s so caring and loving.....wtf? As for Ciar at the beginning he seems like such a dark character but it gets lost as we get further into the book.

The baddie at the end is ridiculous. I’m not sure if the crescendo of the book was supposed to be comical, but it was and it didn’t sit well with me. I would have liked a bit more depth given Keri called up her fate and then had to wear her mark which isn’t a light thing to do.

I’m not sure if I’ll read the next in the series. I’m just not into reverse harem books and obviously the other two guys are about to get more story time. It’s a shame cause the book could have been equally as strong without it.

Wow, Zoe Parker has done it again with this beautifully written dark masterpiece. The female MC is Keri who is a strong and intelligent individual.
The male MC is Ciar who is dark, mysterious and intriguing.
The plot is wonderfully written and the world building is absolutely phenomenal, this book has definitely left me craving the next one.
It was an absolutely alluring and delectable read.

What an amazing book. I’ve got to give it five stars just for the authors creation of characters that are dark but so real and likeable.

Also a small dragon and corpse worm!?!? 🐛🤗🤗🤗🤗 I can’t wait for Fluffy to come out of his cocoon. 💛💛💛💛

One of the things I liked the most about this new series is the author's attempt to build her own world inside of one that's already been heavily used- Faerie.

The world-building is pretty good; sometimes I had to reread a paragraph or two to just get the details fully sorted in my mind, though I think that's just from getting used to Parker's writing rather than the ideas lacking clarity. In Parker's world, Faerie and the mortal realm have combined into this symbiotic civilization- Faerth. One of her unique twists is the concept that ignites the drama/conflict of the book- the Awakening.

For me, this was an interesting concept, and, of course, it works perfectly for the reverse harem sub-genre. When someone with the fae bloodlines is powerful enough, they can "awaken" meaning they come into a greater power and can receive a calling- a "job" (for lack of better wording) from Faerie itself. As we've learned from Spiderman, with great power comes great responsibility- except in this case, with great power comes a need for great balance.

An awakened fae has a triad drawn to him/her, three individuals who are meant to balance, help shape, and attract the power of the awakened, their "center". I think the idea of this symbiotic relationship is pretty interesting, and Cadence of Ciar really only gives us a tiny glimpse of what the triad connection can possibly be/develop into. So, three cheers for Parker, because I'm definitely invested in this fresh concept.

So far I'm enjoying Parker's central characters- Keri, our MC, is dubbed "monster girl" by her companion, Ciar. For being raised in the depths of the Dark Forest, by creatures that strike terror into the hearts of other beings, Keri has a remarkable sense of kindness. I admire the genuine sense of care that she has for the other people around her, and I think there's a lot left for her to uncover about herself. There are also some pretty important details about her past and her lineage that are going to generate some major conflict as we continue going forward.

Ciar has that balance of danger and sweetness, Keri being the exception to the threat that he poses to others as the leader of the Wild Hunt. Personally, I've always found variations of the Wild Hunt to be fascinating, and I was really intrigued by Ciar. Cadence teaches a little bit about him, and there are some bombshells that are going to be pretty important for Keri and her Triad later on (maybe sooner than she thinks/hopes).

I WILL admit that there are some editing issues that I had to overlook- a little repetition, some typos/grammatical errors, but I really don't think they were a big enough deal that I would steer anyone away from the series. Overall, I enjoyed Cadence of Ciar; the characters have a believable chemistry between them regardless of any magical connection, and I think the other additions to Keri's triad are going to bring some new talents and traits to their relationship.

I definitely recommend other readers give it a try.

Disclaimer: Zoe Parker's Facets of Feyrie is one of my absolute favorite series. Hands down. I adore it.

So when I found out she had written a Reverse Harem as well...??

Sign me up!! All of my dreams come true. I was ready to fall in love again.

Maybe my expectations were too high.

Maybe I didn't give it a fair chance.

Maybe I'm not thinking clearly while writing this review because all I can think of doing is scheduling a lobotomy so I can stop thinking about how much I'm cringing over this utter travesty of a "book."

Cadence of Ciar lacked everything I loved about Facets of Feyrie. To be fair, neither are well edited or grammatically sound. But for a really great story, I can put up with as many typos and misplaced commas as you want to throw at me.

The characters were...bland. Lacking. Undeveloped.

The storyline didn't seem very well thought out or executed.

The dialogue...I read this book weeks ago and I'm still cringing from the dialogue.

I didn't want the heroine to get together with any of the guys because I honestly didn't find anything very appealing about them. Maybe it was wishful thinking of me that we'd get three Phobes. (Or at least one!! Come on, man.)

I don't know. I just didn't connect with it one bit. I didn't believe their story. I didn't like how the "romance" grew between each of them. Everything felt very jagged and not fleshed out.

After reading Iza and Phobe's story I went through a dry spell where no other book could live up to them because I was in some sort of happy book coma. After reading this one, I hit another dry spell because now I've been hurt and I'm finding it difficult to trust again.

Seriously, it doesn't seem possible that I can love one series so completely yet abhor another from the same author!!
