It’s the end of an era for Poe Dameron. With the Resistance and the First Order on a collision course and his mission to find Lor San Tekka nearly at an end, the force of Poe’s destiny draws him on toward an awakening…
Charles Soule is a #1 New York Times-bestselling novelist, comics author, screenwriter, musician, and lapsed attorney. He has written some of the most prominent stories of the last decade for Marvel, DC and Lucasfilm in addition to his own work, such as his comics Curse Words, Letter 44 and Undiscovered Country, and his original novels Light of the Jedi, The Endless Vessel, The Oracle Year and Anyone. He lives in New York.
The space combat is undeniable in this one, very fun, exciting, and engaging to say the least.
On top of that, our boy Snap finally made it with Kare. Way to go big guy. All the heavy dudes and most men and general can absolutely relate to the push and pull game you endured, but you came out on top in the end. May your honey moon phase last forever. That is however unrealistic of course, but it sounds like a nice congrats card one-liner.
Despite my personal distaste for Lor San Tekka and the whole 'fate of the Galaxy rests on Luke' crap... they did a good job making Lor an 'Old Wise Man' in this one. Well done.
This ends the current arc and we are onward to possibly the last one for this ~30 issue series!
We resolve the current storyline of reaching Lor San Tekka and wrap up the pre-TFA timeline. The artwork is as good as ever and I love the fact that we get to learn a bit more about Tekka. The opening scenes in particular are beautifully done.
Equally, having previously assumed that the comic would end at this point, I'm delighted and intrigued to see that it will continue. If you've read the novel version of TFA, that gives us some insight into what happened to Poe after the crash on Jakku and I hope that the comics might also cover that and shed more light on it. I look forward to #26 and many more issues to come.
I really like how Lor San Tekka was written here. His words to Poe at the end foreshadow The Last Jedi in a way by saying that the fate of the galaxy does not hinge solely upon Luke. I found it odd that it does not end on Jakku and that it will be a bit more time before Poe and Lor meet again. I'm also bothered by how the panel of Snap and Kare's wedding does not line up with the wedding I've heard about that's mentioned in one of the Join the Resistance books. Really reinforces the notion that Lucasfilm Story Group is not having as much control as perhaps they should.
This is the height of Star Wars comic book writing. A lot of big plot points. I got extremely emotional during a particular sacrifice. A once perceived continuity error was corrected, I'm sure they knew about it all along. And finally, a new shade is given to the beginning of The Force Awakens and Lor San Tekka's character as we discover that that was not his and Poe's first meeting. This is everything new Star Wars content is supposed to do. Make you feel, grow the story, and recolor previous stories. Perfection.
This issue takes the story up to episode VII and ends the current arc in a exciting yet poignant way. The artwork in this issue is also fantastic, some of the best in the series and miles better than the main Star Wars comic.
