Interesting, well written story with family issues - romance - life - setting in France - an interesting story of a girl searching for the meaning in her life...... held my interest until the very end....

I found Maillane to be very well-written, with believable characters, a unique and original plot, and settings that were so well described, the readers' experience was enhanced through the imagined sense of: sight, sound and smell.
This novel kept me engaged from the first page to the last. I literally had the entire story read within 24 hours. The ending came together nicely, with a "feel good" conclusion. The only negative aspect of this novel, in my opinion, was the excessive use of profanity and some explicit season that I felt weren't necessary. I found that the profanity used between the various characters took away from their true feelings of one another and the bond that the writer was aiming for. Again, just my opinion.
I would definitely recommend this read. I do look forward to reading previous and upcoming novels of this wonderful author!

This story starts in France during the 1950s, with a young French woman, Jolie, falling in love with a young American veteran of WWII, Pacific theater. They make promises to come back to the same mountain they are hiking in fifty to finish the last page of the journal Jolie has been keeping. Green then skips ahead fifty years.
Jolie’s granddaughter is a writer tasked with finishing the story.

Elise lives with her Grandmother because she was injured and her parents were killed in and auto wreck when she was 3. She walks with a limp and writes to help her get through life. Her Grandmother wants her to write the story of her life and the love affair from almost 50 years ago.
It was a nice, smooth, feel-good read about the main subjects from that earlier time and where there are at now.

Received this ARC book. Such a lovely read. Sophisticated writing that brings you back in time but still anchors you in the present (well the present of 2010). Loved the relationship between Elise and her grandmother and their banter. I loved Sam’s character-so charming, wild, and a free soul. Loved the storyline.
