I AM FREE FROM THE SHACKLES OF THIS TEXTBOOK.

My God, I have been reading this since September and I quite literally read this one front to back. This feels so sentimental rn I feel like I went through so much with this textbook.

First off I read the etext version and didn’t love the website (I’m a big vital source girly). It was lowkey tricky to use and often a big buggy. As well, it tracked your time on each chapter and I realllllyyyy didn’t like that. It kinda made me feel like I wanted to just speed run the book rather than reading and absorbing info.

The textbook itself was honestly great. The text was a good size and font, it was an easy read visually and each page looked appealing. As well there were TONS of diagrams that explained all the biochemical pathways that were easy to follow and understand. Another thing I enjoyed was the embedded videos explaining the main idea of what you just read. These were super helpful for me as I tend to absorb information better in an auditory manner.

The content was super heavy and this was quite a dense book. I often walked away from reading it feeling drunk. But I honestly learned so much and I feel so big brained. Feeling glad I took on this challenge but equally as glad that I don’t have to do it again… heheh

Great biochemistry textbook. I had this as a required class material for the biochemistry class that one of the authors (Dr. Miesfeld) teaches at the University of Arizona. Plenty of pictures and colorful diagrams for my visually stimulated brain.

Was the material difficult to master? Yes. It’s biochemistry, not exactly a walk in the park. I feel the four star reviews here do the book justice, but I’m also fond of biochemistry. Also note that, if you are looking for a recreational textbook, most of the reviews here probably come from Dr. Miesfeld’s past students (evident by the “worst experience of my life” reviews - I don’t blame them, the material was challenging).

Would I recommend this book to anyone who wants to try mastering biochemistry? Maybe. This book worked wonders for me when I was studying on my own, but I also was taking a class that mirrored the book, so take that as you will.

Overall, this was definitely the best chemical science textbook I had to purchase during my undergraduate program. If you’re not one for diagrams, pictures, and tables, I suggest you find what I would consider a bland textbook elsewhere. I for one, though, am glad this was my biochemistry textbook.
