Maria Del Voscova is a powerful witch with a past. When she’s asked to become a member of the elite Guardians she knows she can’t risk sharing the truth about her messed-up family. But we don’t always get what we want. Sometimes, we don’t always know what we want.
Though Mar absolutely knows she doesn’t want Neeren, King of the Parthen. She alone sees the darkness in him and it reminds her too much of the past. She knows better than to fall for his stoic, tortured soul façade.
She’s training to be a Guardian, a shadow; tasked with keeping the balance between good and evil in the world. It’s what she wants — to be better than her family was.
But the past has a way of catching up to Mar and the future has a morbid sense of humor. On her first mission, she’s kidnapped by the enemy she’s been running from her entire life. Thankfully the guardians look after their own. As it turns out, so does Neeren.
As Mar finds herself caught between the past and the future; between blood and bond; between the light and the dark, she realizes her only chance at surviving may be in trusting a man who is the most dangerous of them all.
Award Winning Paranormal Romance Author, Rayanne Haines lives on the Canadian prairies with the man of her dreams, two young men, and an obsessive compulsive english bulldog named Bella.
She grew up on a small horse ranch and spent most of her youth re-enacting scenes from Anne of Green Gables to attentive audiences that included pygmy goats and roan stallions. The horses were thrilled. Her father could never figure out why it took her three hours to clean the barn.
A city girl now, things haven't changed much. She still has a fondness for mountains and rivers and all the creatures that live within them. And she still believes in Magic. Rayanne loves to write about kick-ass women and the alpha men who love them.
This is not a standalone read, you really need to have read book 1 which is Fire Born. So to give you a bit of context book 1 is centered around Alex and Collum her love interest. There is a lot of important background information and you get to meet pretty much the core group of characters there.
You really need to read Book 1 Fire Born!
Trust me, it is really good and I do not want you to miss out on a great read!
In Fire Born, we get to know Alex, Collum, Quinn, Mar, Nereen and few others. So here, in Magic Born, you pretty much continue on with the same posse!
We do get introduced to a few more of course...
Alex and Mar (who is a very powerful witch) are besties, and well there is that bit of attraction going on with Nereen (Alex's brother).
Mar has spunk, she is feisty, quick-witted, funny... hell the whole darn package and well how is Nereen meant to resist?
So definitely my kinda character...
I love my ass kicking heroines!
Can you blame me?
You could see the whole attraction coming in book 1 and well now... we get to live it!
It is fun!!
I really enjoyed the writing because both books are very fast paced, and really well written. You got your action sequences, fantastic dialogs, snark everywhere... heck you know me... I was a happy girl!
We get a few twists and surprises, I think there is a part of me that is still a tad confused about that big bad and the final battle, but I would expect it to be explained in Book 3. At the end of Book 3, we already know that the story will center this time around Quinn!
If you like Paranormal novels, then you are going to be hooked with this series.
I am going to very highly recommend it, and remember that you want to start the series from book 1. I wonder when we will get Book 3 because honestly, I cannot wait and I would love to see more of these characters.
Magic Born is the second book in The Guardian series, and it does follow from the first, so you do need to read this in order. We met both Neeren and Mar in the first book. Neeren is Alex's brother whilst Maria is her BFF, and a kick-ass witch too.
In book one it became obvious that these two would end up together, although they would both fight it too. And they do, although it changes very quickly. Now, you may consider the circumstances extenuating and say that there was simply no place for games. For me though, it just felt a bit fast, all or nothing!
The pace is fast in this book, and it is excellently written. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep your attention, plus lots of steamy action. If I was being really picky I would say that I wish we had had more of the 'big bad' before we found out who it was. There wasn't really much of a shock involved, simply because a) we didn't really know the character, and b) it made sense!
This was a great continuation of this series, and I am really looking forward to Quinn's book. I really want to see if Lochan has forgiven her for how she left him in book one.

She’s training to be a Guardian, a shadow tasked with keeping the balance between good and evil in the world. It’s what Maria Del Voscova wants – to be better than her family was and she absolutely knows that she doesn’t want Neeren, King of the Parthen. But as she finds herself caught between the past and the future, between blood and bond, between the light and the dark, she realizes her only chance at surviving may be in trusting a man who is the most dangerous of them all.
The second book in ‘The Guardian’ series is a very engaging and suspenseful read with strong, memorable characters. The chemistry between Mar and Neeren sizzles with vivid intensity and their passion scorches the page but mostly their relationship is energetic and witty with a bit of a push and pull which keeps the emotions flowing and the readers captivated. Mar is feisty and full of life while Neeren keeps his emotions locked down tight which also makes this relationship a sweet and powerful one as opposites attract.
The plot is fast paced with stunning twists and non-stop excitement and suspense that keeps readers glued to pages as kidnappings, twisted plots and secrets and betrayals being revealed keep readers on their toes. The relationship between Mar and Neeren began in the first book with a kind of fight the attraction action so readers may find that the relationship came on a bit too fast but hey, he became her ‘knight in furry armor’! In regards to the bad guys, wow, what a convoluted way to get your greed on! Readers don’t want to miss one second of this story and of course readers will be impatient to read Lachon and Quinn’s story to find out what happens next.
Magic Born is the second book in the Guardian series written from multiple POV’s. Each story tells the tale of a couple. This book focuses on the crazy awesome witch Mar and her somewhat broody King Neeren.
Mar has been asked to become a Guardian which is a huge honor. But she has a sketchy past. One she doesn’t want anyone to know about. I thought Mar was a delight! She was crazy (in a good way), flamboyant, funny and tough as nails. But just when she agrees to join the Guardians she’s kidnapped! Of course, Neeren will be the one to save her.
Neeren is the sexy, kickass king of the Parthen. He’s also very powerful, somewhat broody and long-suffering. Only Mar can bring him around! I loved the difference in personalities. It was fun watching Mar and Neeren interact. There was no way Neeren could resist Mar and he is totally dedicated to her.
Now this story is packed full of action. With all the magic, plotting and romance you certainly couldn’t call it a slow read. It was well paced and so fast in parts it was hard to take my eyes off the pages. Furthermore, the banter and interactions between the various characters was engaging.
Now this is likely because I haven’t read the first book Fire Born; but I was a little overwhelmed. There were a lot of characters that were obviously introduced in the first book. And I was a little foggy in spots because I didn’t know all the history. That doesn’t mean that the story is bad. Only that it became evident to me that while some say it can be read as standalone I would disagree. I think that to get the most out of the series you should read Fire Born first. Which I will be reading!
Overall this was a well written and fun book. I’d encourage all paranormal romance fans to try this series out. You won’t be disappointed!
I received a copy of this book from the author via Xpresso Book Tours. This review is voluntary and all opinions and thoughts are my own.
A paranormal romance that contains sexy Alpha shifter males, sassy heroine, misunderstood villains and an evil that needs to be vanquished. Neeren and Maria love story is amazing story. This is book 2 of the series, despite the fact I didn't have the previous book. I was hooked from the beginning. Neeren is not a typical hero. He hides the part of his power that is dark and dangerous. Maria, even when she catches a glimpse of what it made him do in the past, can't escape the irresistible attraction to him.
Maria's past isn't perfect either. She was raised in a American convent. The memories of her mother are painful. In this story she has continuous attempts on her life but it helps unravel her parents past and she's able to discover her place in the scheme of things. Neeren is a constant fearless lover by her side.
WHAT A STORY. Its a rollercoaster of action that keeps the reader at the edge of their seat with each new scene. A rare gem, which I wouldn't have found if not for eBook Discovery.I would recommend it to readers who love Paranormal romance genre.
P.S : The erotic scenes are super steamy. Neeren and Collum may turn into your new book boyfriends.
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
What an amazing book!! I love the characters and story line. I loved how we learn more about Mar and still know what is going on with Alex and Cullum. It starts off with the chemistry between Nareen and Mar heating up. These two are a riot to read about. The story is crazy and heart pounding. So much so that you don't realize you are holding your breath. Boy does it heat up as well. Make sure you are in a cool environment cause I swear that I felt my body heat rise as I read. I love Nareen and Mar and their constant bickering until the craziness happens.
If you want to know what happens with Nareen and Mar then you need to read this book. I fell in love with this series in book one. This book just cemented the fact that Rayanne Haines has a fan for life. This is a hidden gem for sure.
***This is an advanced readers copy that I received for a voluntarily honest review.***
I want to give Magic Born 5 stars, because I really enjoyed the characters and the story arc. But, there are a few things that keep me from doing so.
First, is a continuity error. In Fire Born, Mar is Italian, but now in Magic Born, she’s Spanish. It’s likely not something you’ll notice unless you read them back-to-back like I did, but it’s still something worth noting.
Second, are the incorrect uses of Spanish. I noticed an odd phrase in Fire Born, but I assumed it was because Mar’s Italian, and my Italian isn’t great. Of the top of my head, there are a couple of incorrect phrases in Magic Born. I don’t expect everyone to have a perfect grasp of any language not their own. However, it is very simple to turn to Google Translate or even ask someone who does speak the language you’re using.
Third, are the errors. I noticed several as I read through Magic Born. Normally, I keep track of them by highlighting so I can decide later if there are enough to lose a star. However, the copy I received was a PDF, so I couldn’t highlight in my Kindle app.
NOTE: I've received word from Ms. Haines that Magic Born has, in fact, received a second round of edits and updated files are being uploaded. So, hooray!
This all left me at a loss as to whether to rate Magic Born 3 stars or 4. Ultimately, I decided on 4 because I really love the story and characters. Mar is another fabulously strong female lead who still has flaws and weaknesses, like Alex in Fire Born.
I’ll likely read Air Born when it’s available. I want to know Quinn and Lachon’s story. It isn’t surprising that they’re next. It was quite clear in Fire Born that Lachon has a thing for Quinn.
I hope Air Born gets an extra edit to bring it up to the standard set with Fire Born. But, even with the problems in Magic Born, I’d still recommend it as a good read.
This second installment in the Magic Born series is a step up from the first. It picks up where the original left off and takes you back to the world of paranormal Guardians, witches, and shifters. I need to point out, though, that there were some continuity issues, but it didn’t take much away from the initial story.
This story focuses on Dreamwalker and King of the Parthen Neeran, Alex’s brother, and sassy sorceress Mar. Mar is kidnapped while on a mission and Neeran is sent after her to rescue her. The chemistry between these two are pretty interesting to say the least. The foundation was built in the first book and carried over quite nicely to this next book and continued to flourish right before my eyes.
I’m very attached to these characters and much like the first one, the action kicks right in and never lets you go till the very end. I can’t wait to see what may happen in the next book!
This a great story! I loved the interactions between Neeren and Maria. I couldn't put this story down.
Neeren is the King of the Parthen and is ready to come out of the shadows. He has his family back but he can't seem to get a handle on Maria. She is a powerful witch with a secret of her own. She is also training to be a Guardian. When she is taken, he will stop at nothing to rescue her. During this time, they discovered that they are mates. She must tap into her powers in order to discover who she really is. Will they be able to fight this evil before it's too late?

A bit confused with the continuity issues. First our character is Italian and now she is Spanish. And then some Spanish phrases were off. I don't think the author meant to write some of them the way they were translated in my head. But overall it's an exciting series with a cool magic system. Just needs to tighten up on continuity errors.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.
So first off I have to say that Mrs. Haines is another new to me author. In a review I day the other day I had mentioned how I had been in a reading rut, probably from alway's reading the same stuff. So I decided that it was time for me to try some different genres that I don't really read, or don't read as much anymore.
Second of all I think while reading the synopsis of this book is what pulled me to it and made me want to read it. But that being said I don't think I realized that this was the second book in the series and that these books really shouldn't be read as stand alones. I was a bit confused throughout with who was who and what was going on at times.
But from what I could gather from this book is that there was a core group of people from the first book.
I did really like the characters in this book. I thought that this book was written well and was fast paced and brought the energy. There were a few twists and turns and you could feel the battle coming in the third book. I will say I will definitely have to go back and read the first book so I can understand more.
I'm giving this book 3.5 Stars out of 5!!!!
***I received an ARC of this book from Xpresso Book Tours for my honest review***
I loved this story. It is the kind that you can identify with the characters and immerse yourself in the story. Very well written and characters to win the heart make this book a must read.

Magic Born picks up where Fire Born leaves off; however, this time it is the story of Mar and Neeren. Mar is a powerful sorceress, who doesn’t know much about her past. Neeren is a Parthen and a Dreamwalker, making him much too powerful for his own good. After agreeing to going the elite Guardians, Mar is kidnapped while on assignment. It’s up to Neeren to save her. Just as with Fire Born, this is a story that moves along at a fast clip, and I enjoyed it immensely, though not quite as much as Fire Born. The characters are fascinating, the magic is mind-blowing, and this story is so full of twists and turns that you never know what is coming until it hits you. I really hope that there will be more books in this fantastic series!
In the second installment of The Guardians series, you won’t find a sophomore slump here. And when I opened the book immediately after finishing book one, I was happy to discover this one was about the witch Mar and Alex’s brother Neeren. This book is just as good, if not better than book one.
Jumping in after the events of book one, we finally will find out about Mar’s dark and painful past, and the new family she has in Alex, Collum, Glenn and Neeren. If anyone was going to break Neeren’s ice cold exterior and control, leave it to a sassy witch. Many things are not as they appear again, as the author weaves her own brand of magic around her readers. After being asked to be a Guardian, Mar is sent off to Madrid on her first mission, and in the process gets kidnapped. Will Neeren, Collum and Alex find her in time?
All our friends from book one are back, and this series is just getting better, plenty of action, romance and snark, along with a good dash of humor,
and the author just can’t write fast enough for me. Reviewed by Cyrene
DIFFERENCE IN THE MAKING!!! Talk about tripping. You have it all right here. A fast paced, action packed, nailbiting, nerve racking rollercoaster ride of emotions and unexpected danger that keeps you captivated from the start. Not knowing which way to turn, who to trust and the clock is ticking. The characters were intriguing, complex and realistically on point and believable. Following the characters as they embark on a journey that will forever change their lives. Personalities transform, blend and sometimes clash but continue to evolve into their true selves. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Twists and turns abound with a suspense filled adventure that keeps your attention focused on this page turning bombshell. Haines did an incredible job bringing this read to life. Great job Haines, thanks for sharing this remarkable tale with us.
This book was amazing! Magic Born is the second book in the Guardian series and I loved Neeren and Mar’s story as much as I loved Collum and Alex's story. Mar is such a great character and an amazing witch. Only Mar, the crazy, flamboyant witch, could tame Neeren, the stoic king. The author could have ended the book around half way through, and it would have been a great book, but she didn’t and I’m so glad, because the way she ended it, made it a supremely awesome book! I was blown away by the second half of the book. This is such a great series and I can’t wait for the next book, Aunt Quinn’s story.
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
This was an enjoyable story. The action was fast paced. The conflict was good and multi-faceted. You don’t really know who the villain is until the end. The characters are entertaining. I have not read book one and I recommend reading that one before this second book. I was a bit lost in the beginning because it does become clear their relationship dynamics were already set up and started in the previous book. Without that background, I thought it was sometimes hard to keep up with whether they liked each other but liked to tease and torment, or if they did in fact not like each other until she leaves the island. He comes across as aloof and cold one minute then flirty in a sort of cold stand-offish way the next. She kept telling him not to call her or visit her dreams but then he is the first person she hopes comes for her. I think if I had read book 1 first, I would have been better set for chapter 1 of this book. I really did enjoy it. The book reminded me a bit of Cynthia Eden’s The Devil in Disguise. He is this big and bad and dark character in the immortal world and she is this young spitfire sent in to shake things up. Their adventure was fun and I enjoyed how it all ended. This is the first book of Rayanne Haines that I've read. It will not be the last!
I absolutely love Maria! She is the epitome of a modern woman. Strong, beautiful, kind, loving, free-spirited, thoughtful, generous as she is headstrong and powerful. Powerful enough to meet Neeran, the King of the Parthen head on and knock him down a few pegs. As a child of the eighties, I totally think she is my daughter stolen at birth. (Why they took her and not one of the others....that is a different story)
This story is full of twists and turns. There are webs of lies so thick you wonder if the makers of these webs are not going to be caught within them as well, yet they manage to escape. The one constant in Mar's life is Neeran. I love how Haines takes what is least expected and turns it into something powerful. Takes a darkness and turns it into a light.
The entire cast of characters intrigued me. I want to know more about each of them, especially Glenn and his hot pink track suit! Please continue to write more in this amazing series.
Loved Neeren and Mar’s story as much as I loved Collum and Alex's story.
Emotions and fireworks. I love it when the chemistry between the main characters is tangible. The book starts with the author jumping right away into the action. And the most important thing, the storyline is very smoothly done too. I like it a lot. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Having enjoyed the first in the series I'm very glad that this equalled, if not exceeded, my expectations. While you will definately get more out this book if you read the series in order it could be read as a stand alone.
With well developed characters and a sassy heroine this was a joy to read.
I received this book from ebook discovery. This is my honest, freely given review .
Maria is a powerful witch, she didn't plan on falling in love with Neeren, the King of Parthen, but sometimes life throws a curveball, no one knows that better than Maria. She is asked to train as a Guardian, a group of powerful beings that tries to keep the balance between good and evil. Unfortunately, she is kidnapped on her first mission, and the past she had hoped to keep hidden will be revealed.
Sexy, unique, paranormal characters that fight for each other, travel to other realms, face darkness, and will die for each other. Exciting, with action packed magical battles in a sizzling hot romance.
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. We meet Mar, a witch who was asked to bind a certain power of her bff and her family...aka the cat king Neeren. While doing his binding, she uncovers his big secret and its disturbing but it's not hers to tell. However, she finds the kitten super sexy and is trying her best not to let him get to her. On a side note, Mar has joined the Guardian to keep the peace and is sent on a mission to Spain. Neerem wants the witch...he shouldn't but her does. A complicated triangle of lies, deception, secrets and sex. Will it become to much for Mar?
This second book in the Guardian series is entertaining and a spellbinding read. This can possibly be read as a standalone, however for full enjoyment and understanding of the plot it is better to read the series in order. This is a great fast paced read that has a few twist and turns incorporated throughout.
