In order to embrace her true nature, a young Dragon Rider must accept who she is—and where she came from.
Lila knows her people’s way of life is dying, but trying to get Raiders to become Dragon Mercenaries is no easy task. Although the world around them is changing, many among the Raiders still cling to the old ways of piracy. When a desperate message arrives from the West Witches, Lila and her new friend, the eccentric, unseasoned magician Danu, must risk a mission to the island of Sebol to learn what they can of the new danger they face, a threat that menaces all the Western Isles.
To face it, Lila must leave her Raider past behind and become the leader Danu knows she was born to be. Knowing the crown of Roskilde holds the key to her destiny, and perhaps the key to defeating the deadly threat that is upon them, Lila must seize it. But to do so, Raiders and dragons will have to learn to trust each other—and Lila—as she leads the charge. Can Lila let go of fear and doubt and face the future, or will the only life she’s known be destroyed?
Ava Richardson writes epic page-turning Young Adult Fantasy books. She creates lovable characters and drops them into intricate worlds that are barely contained within your eReader. Ava has written 21 YA dragon fantasy series, including her bestselling series Return of the Darkening and her recent series, Destia's Dragon Shifter War.
She grew up on a steady diet of fantasy and science fiction books handed down from her two big brothers – and despite being dog-eared and missing pages, she loved escaping into the magical worlds that those authors created. Her favorites were the ones about dragons; where they’d swoop, dive and soar through the skies of these enchanted lands.
Getting started at the second book in a trilogy isn't ideal, but at least the tale is fast moving as all the setting up work happened previously. Telepathic dragons training to fight off an enemy with their riders - we've been there before, but this time unlike Pern it's long-haul flights and battles in midair. Something like the Temeraire books, except the heroes of this tale are pirates who want to harness dragons instead of ships. This is a dark fantasy at times so beware what might be lurking in the woods. This will be ideal for mature Young Adults or New Adults, provided they want action instead of romance. I downloaded an e-ARC from Net Galley and Fresh Fiction. This is an unbiased review.
Lila, Danu, Adair, Senga, their dragon counterparts Crux and his fellow dragons are in a fight against time, against A magical warfare, raged by Lila’s uncle Havick deeply encased with dark and old magic, leading you into an exciting epic action-filled read. With magical realms colliding and causing catastrophic mayhem and deep sadness. Their journey encompasses magical worlds with dragons, wizards, and witches ruling the day. It’s an action-filled package with dark danger hidden and waiting at all corners and shores, another must read folks.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher for an honest review. Thank you!! This novel was a good continuation from the first book in the series. It continues where the last left off, with Lila, Danu, and Crux trying to stop Havick, Lila's uncle, who has stolen the throne and killed her parents and Ohotto, a witch who betrayed the West Witches. Havick and Ohotto are working together, using the Sea Crown and her dark magic to bring forth the Darkness, a great evil. Lila struggles between being a Raider and following her destiny as the true leader of Roskilde. Trying to find allies is challenging, since most do not want to change their way of life, not realizing that the evil is a greater threat. Lila, Danu, and Crux share a dragon bond,. Danu continues to develop his powers and Crux helps him. However, tragedies cause need for revenge, loosing site of the true objective. Lila and Danu each go thru their own trials that they must overcome, needing the other and Crux. They need to get the Sea Crown and warn Torvald of the plan to attack them before it is too late and Havick and Ohotto use the Darkness to control the world. I am looking forward to the next novel in the series....maybe a team up with Saffron and Bower to stop the evil from being unleashed.
Oh my goodness book 2 was even better than book 1. So much happens and such wonderul characters. Lila, Danu and Crux are now trying to stop evil King Havick. He is Lila's evil uncle who killed her parents to steal the crown and the throne along with Ohotto who was once one of the West Witches but she betrayed her coven and now is dabbling in dark magic and bringing forth an army of the dead. Lila now struggles with being a raider and her true destiny as the leader of Roskilde. She is trying to find allies but most don't want to change. They don’t realize the great threat that is coming for them until it's to late. Danu continues to develop his magic but tragedy causes his need for revenge and causes him to loose sight of their true objective. Lila sometimes wonders about his magic. It almost seems evil at times. Now the three must retrieve the sea crown and warn Torvalid of tje attack they know is coming before Havick & Ohotto use the dark magic and the dead to control the world. I loved this one and now on to book 3.
I received a free copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I've been waiting to find a new dragon series that captivates me for quite a while, and it seems that I have FINALLY found it. I saw this one on NetGalley and was really intrigued by the blurb. I think it was on there for Read Now, so I clicked on the button and found out this was the second book. The first one was on Kindle Unlimited and I read it through that and LOVED it, then I read this review copy and it was GREAT. I love the dragons in this one so much, I feel like they're a good mix between the traditional image of dragons (proud, cunning, dangerous creatures) but also had everything I love about modern, YA-ish portrayals of dragons (kind, helpful to humans etc.). It was just really great and I think the action-packed plot is really interesting as well. I'm glad book 3 comes out in July because I HAVE to know what's going to happen next!

Lila, the Chief's adopted daughter, is a dragon rider. Lila along with her magician friend Danu and their bonded dragon, Crux have another adventure ahead. Contacted by Danu's old mentor they fly to help the witches under siege. While there they find more clues to the master plan of the evil threatening their world.
Disclaimer 1: I did not read the first book. Disclaimer 2: I watched How to Train Your Dragon just before I started this book so I keep thinking the first book is like How to Train Your Dragon.
I liked this book. It was a little confusing at first due to disclaimer 2 but it can hold its own once I got going. I like how both Danu and Lila are struggling and growing together. Crux with his wisdom and ego. I do love Crux.
My only complaint was I wish there was more interaction between Pela and Lila but that could have happened in the first book. This was a fun read.
Another great addition to Ava Richardson arsenal of books. This was such a great novel I found my self-getting lost in the characters and the root of the story. How can you not love magic even more dragons? I found the love of dragons in my adult years and now I cant get my fill of them. This author has a well-developed plot along with characters that reside in it. If you love dragons, witches, and magic this is a must-read. Come join and become a member of the elite raider for life.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book! This is the second book in the series and is even better than the first one. We still follow the story of Lila, Dan and Crux and their personality evolves do much more. The plot is standard - long lost princess trying to regain her birth rights but still it is different. Not every battle is won not everyone lives to see the end. I can't wait for the final book of this series.
The story of Lil, Danu and their Dragon Crux continues and their fight against Havick, the usurper of the Sea Crown of Rothskild, and the evil witch Ohotto continues with more challenges and self doubt by two of the three, dragons never doubt themselves. The story moves along quickly, and I'm looking forward to the final book in the series
Once again you have done yourself great in writing this book , looking forward to the next book also with sadness knowing that it would be the last book in the series
I have read through most of Ava's books n this is another good story really enjoy the dragon rider stories keep them coming it helps to read a great book while I'm at home cuz of covid19
I expected it to be more repetitive and then a little drama at the end. But I’ll t surprised Me in a very Pleasant Way throughout the book. It ended perfectly as she obtained what she needed, finally!
I Love this series. Strong Characters, which are well developed, along with a engaging, strong, and easy flowing story, makes for a delightful read. Couldn't put it down. Great Reading Everyone!
Spitze, freu mich aufs Finale
