Daizlei Academy #3

Queen of Lies

Rate this book
Alternate cover edition of ASIN B07BLRSLDP

Here's the thing about secrets: the only way to keep them between two people is if one of them is dead. If you're not willing to pull the trigger yourself, you best be prepared to have it pulled on you. I learned that lesson the hard way.

My ignorance got her killed. Everything I once was died with her.

From the ashes, something new was born. Something wicked.
My soul was carved out by grief, molded by power, and brought forth from limbo for one reason. Revenge.

I'd been down this road before, with Anastasia always one step ahead.
I was blind then. I am no longer.

The best revenge wasn't instant. It was planned. You studied your enemy, learned every secret they kept, every fear they held, understood them so intimately that you began to pity them. It was then that you struck. I wanted her to suffer.

And I would settle for nothing less.

Book 1 had me at okay, interesting; book 2 had me ooo, ahh; book 3 had me OMS; and I can't wait for books 4 and on. With all the twists and turns in all of Kel Carpenter's books, I did not see that coming until the revelation.
Writing: descriptive and awesome as usual; although, missing 1 or 2 words like twice throughout the whole book.
The question, is team Lucas or team Ash/Aaron? Will Selena complete the bond with Ash/Aaron. Obviously, the questions are mute as now Selena, every main characters, and readers are team Ash/Aaron.
Can't wait for book 4 to see what happens next as Selena learned something major that could change the everything and lets not forget, Lily. And, can you believe Valda and Cirian.

*I received an ARC in return for an honest review*

Let me start off with the fact the Kel is an AMAZING author and I’m so excited that more people are realizing that.

This was the first series of hers I read and since then I’ve read every book her name has been on. This series is still one of my favorites though since it was the first book of hers I read. I can happily say though this book was well worth the wait!

Queen of Lies picks up right where the previous left off and delivers all the action, drama, and romance you expected. Selena is such a strong character and I love trying to predict what she’s going to do next. Kel doesn’t disappoint though and keeps you guessing all the way up to the last page.

“...because even liars and thieves have their place in this world.” -Queen of Lies

I’m going to be over here trying to patiently wait for her next book now. Don’t miss out on this great book.

More pain as they grow, they turn 17 in this book...well two of them do. One will forever be 16.
Lilly, poor Lilly

Ash and Selena. I expected more than one moment and sleeping. But then it may take away from the triplets and their story. Their story is not really built on, just the aid he can give if she needs to calm down.

No. No, okay. I didn't make it this far into the book, forgiving Selena when she rejected Lucas, for her to have THIS kind of relationship with Aaron. Which can't even be CONSIDERED a relationship. THEY DON'T EVEN TALK TO EACH OTHER. They just have random surges of jealousy or possessiveness over the other. AND I WAS OKAY WITH THAT AT FIRST. You have to break it down before you can build it up you know? I wouldn't have minded a bit of awkwardness once the ice had melted between them, BCUZ THAT WOULD'VE FELT REAL. It would've felt honest. BUT AARON WAS A ONE DIMENSIONAL HOBO. LIKE NO. YOU DON'T GET TO CHOOSE THE FLAT BASIC CHARACTER WHO HAS NO PERSONALITY WHATSOEVER OVER THE GREEN-EYED HOTTIE WHO WAS SO AMAZING. He somehow SOMEHOW saw past all of Selena's flaws (and trust me, there were PLENTY) to the person she was. And Aaron claimed to do the same except he didn't feel like a character because all of his motivations and goals were centered around her. NO. THAT'S NOT HOW YOU DO THINGS. I wanted to see how their dysfunctional messed up selves somehow still fit together. I wanted to UNDERSTAND why Aaron was the better option. What happened here is the exact thing a soul bond or whatever shouldn't be. It shouldn't be a pairing between two people whose relationship isbased solely on their lust for each other. NO. I WANTED DEEP MEANINGFUL, HEART WRENCHING CONVERSATIONS. I WANTED THEM TO BREAK EACH OTHER APART ONLY TO BUILD THE OTHER BACK UP INTO SOMEONE BETTER BECAUSE DAMMIT THATS HOW IT WORKS. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BRING OUT THE BEST IN EACH OTHER. You cannot tell me that what they brought out in each other, the ALOOFNESS, the INDIFFERENCE, the COLDNESS, is the "best." I put aside my homework to finish book 2 and I had to cram it all in the night before the deadline. YOU WANNA KNOW WHY? Because I was under the impression that Selena broke Lucas's heart for a reason. I GAVE OUR GURL THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. And what did she do?? She ended up with a guy who treats her like a STRANGER. And she does THE SAME TO HIM. IF THERE'S ONE THING I LEARNED FROM ROMANCE NOVELS, IT'S THAT YOU HAVE TO BE BEST FRIENDS FIRST BEFORE YOU CAN BE SOMETHING MORE. The love of your life can't be someone you can't be yourself around.

Tumbleweeds. Crickets. Thank you all for coming to my tedtalk :,) And to answer your question tumbleweed that just rolled by, no, I didn't finish the book. I made it 87 percent through though and I think that deserves a STANDING OVATION. Because I was promised a heart squeezing soulmate shifter situation and I DIDNT GET IT. Lucas deserved better. THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY FOLKS JALJA

Right from the first chapter you are sucked in, Selena is not to be messed with give her what she needs or look out! As harsh as she seems she does what needs to be done and we get to see different sides of her through each book as she adapts to what is happening around her and what she needs to do. While she is back with them all you can not help but feel her anguish as she relives and remembers what happened to her and the literal internal struggles she is going through. But you know what she has her sisters, Aaron and others who are there for her as we see where things go from here and decisions she needs to make. I can not wait to see what happens in the next book especially after the revelations at the end!!!

I waited so long for the third full novel in the Daizlei Academy series, but its here and it is easily Kel Carpenter's best work to date. There wasn't a single thing I didn't like about it. The character development is incredible, the story is gripping from page one, and the way Selena handles herself and the developments of her story are wonderful to follow.

I can't wait to see what lies ahead for Selena and her family and will be patiently waiting for news on the next installment.

Thank you, Kel, for one of the best reading experiences I've had this year!

Yes!! Finally the third book in the Daizlei Academy series is here and boy oh boy it will keep you on the edge of your seat if you have kept up with Selena throughout the series. This book picks up right where book two left off and has all the action, drama, and romance that the other books have but dialed up a few notches! There were definitely a few shocking things learned in this book and I can not wait to read the next one to see how things go. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book

As always Selena is a character to remember. She is strong, caring, and devoted to her family and what little friends she has allowed in her inner circle. The loss of Lily took her passion for living. She thought she failed. In this amazing book, that made me laugh as well as cry, she found the courage to put herself together again. Not just for herself but for all those that depended on her. The action, the love, and the change that all of the characters in this book show that even when things look bleak there is always always something to continue to hold you together, love.

Another extremely strong entry in Kel Carpenter's Daizlei Academy series. Once again, this book showcases strong character and plot development, with some guessed at twists and others that came straight out of left field..., enough to keep you guessing about what is going to happen next. I have been waiting for this book for a while and also get to sit on pins and needles while waiting for book #4, a wait I don't mind a bit due to the consistent quality of the story. Pick up the whole series so far, you definitely won't be disappointed.

"We live in an impossibly possible world." This was a great read we all have to find peace with our demons one day and Selena finally does. And Aaron speech he make (you'll know the one) will my just melt you heart like a popsicle on a hot day. I won't say who but someone will be learn that vengeance is not always yours to take with that twist and the end. Many lives are change as I am sure more will as the story continues.

ueen of Lies the 3rd book of the Daizlei Academy was absolutely amazing. It had me on the edge of my seat. It picks up where book 2 left off and delivers all the drama and action the other 2 books had. I love Selena's character and her development. Kel is an amazing author and it shows in every last book she writes.

Continuing straight on from the previous book, the story developed dramatically throughout Queen of Lies with some very revealing and thought provoking revelations. This was my favourite of the series by far!

I am starting to like Selena a lot more thankfully. I've struggled in the previous books with her suppressing her emotions and coming across as cold and aloof, but in this book she has finally allowed herself to feel. Yay! We have finally discovered exactly who and what she is and you're in for a treat! She has grown and developed and is a much better and more intriguing (anti) heroine for it.  Aaron played a bigger role as they started to grow closer, although I'd still like more information on the signoste bond. Drama and angst was never far away, but her friends and family have developed strongly with her.

Told still all from Selena's pov, the narrator captures her personality perfectly. She's very good although if I'm being picky there could be a bit more differentiation between characters perhaps. Not saying it's easy though with so many differing personalities to capture in this book!

The tension, darknesss, drama and action is building and after that ending I have a feeling there will be very testing and emotional times ahead especially for the sisters, as tensions and the quest for power between supernaturals  peaks. I'm really looking forward to the conclusion as I've no idea how everything will play out.

I luv watching all the characters grow into their powers and the new additions def add to the story overall. I luv reads like this when I’m invested in every character.. I can never get enough! Also... OMG Lily!!! That is all...........

Queen Of lies

Book three picks up without missing a beat, and it's non-stop action from beginning to the end. Selena has done a lot of growing up, but she still has a ways to go (in my opinion), but she is trying to do better. Just when she thinks she has things figured out, she meets someone who turns everything upside down and shatters everything. The story is getting really interesting and intense and I am excited to see what happens next.

Romance is the death of all

I hated the romance. I hate Ash. Why do authors feel the need to temper strong female characters with overbearing annoying male love Interests. The rest of the story (when she wasn't swooning for ash) was great but wadding through all the self doubt and personal issues is hard to read three books in. She really did grow in this book I'm excited to see her move beyond the brokenness.

Kel Carpenter’s Queen of Lies, the third in her Daizlei Academy series, is an extraordinarily wonderful and complex story that’s part of an extraordinarily wonderful and complex multi-story arc, and involves characters that are superbly crafted, flaws and all, and who then slowly evolve over the pages. Selena and Aaron really are magnificent, and so is this book. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Ehhh. I can't decide if this book is better than previous one or I just got used to all the crap. This book leans heavily on a relationship between Selena and Aaron. The nonexistent relationship. The one that never gets developed past some possessiveness and jealousy. The one that never gets actually formed, but gets shoved down the readers throats and we are forced to accept it at a face value. I think it's safe to say I strongly dislike Aaron. Changing his name to Ash does nothing to make him likable. Now, author tries to avoid building the relationship by revealing how Ash was shape-shifting into Lucas for the previous year and that it was actually him Selena was best friends with and was attracted to. Basically, reader is told- i did the work in book one, so just accept it and don't expect more. Sloppy and lazy, if you ask me. It didn't make me like him at all, in fact it was so cringy that the whole soul bonded thing sounds more like a curse than a blessing. Bring up Blair bond and I was seriously hoping there is a way of breaking the bond. I highly doubt that was authors intention, yet here we are.
Speaking of sloppy. Author still tends to skip over details and just informing of the aftermath. For example, the whole ambush on Anastasia. The was a plan. What plan? That's for author to know, not the reader. The reader just gets informed in few words that it existed and given no details whatsoever, skipping straight into dealing with the aftermath of failure. This tendency to omit facts or ignore how they logically tie together is what author has been doing since book one. Normally, when I read and when I am given pieces of puzzle I tried to tie it together in my mind and whatever logical chain of conclusions I make have to blend in nicely in the big reveals. Here, it is a mess. In the hurry of telling the story author don't follow the rules she herself set. As one example is the whole Valda and Cirian soul bound thing. So, they were married, so they were each others signati. The bond was not broken and their souls are immortal, just hopping from host to host. Is it a wonder that given the information we received I would make a conclusion they are still each others signati? But, they are not. Selena feels what Valda feels, yet not this bond. Why? It doesn't make sense! To be honest, a lot doesn't make sense in this book, making a lot of scenes cringy.
Now, for Selena/Valda being the Mother. Didn't think that out well either, did you? What a load of crap. I really, really wish authors made a structure and a plan before writing, something they can go back to and check details on instead of just writing with the flow.

Anyway. This book seems better that previous two. Or I gave adapted my expectations. One or the other. Still not good though.

You know I read this this book on 2 different kindles NO don't laugh I did I had to because, I had to make sure I was reading it right. I couldn't believe what I was reading. It was that good .
Yes it was !
First off, I read it and was like no way. That did not just happen Selena powers grew that much wow . Then through the whole book with all the twist and turns wow. I was amazed by the way all the characters whether crazed mind's or not they actually all came together and they seem to be able to work as a team. what I love the most is the fact this book has a great story line . Lots of twist and turns action and what are we gonna do now parts lol . I do recommend that you read them in order so you know who every one is and who you need to throat punch yeah throat punch is a thing right ? hahaha ....

Here's the thing about secrets: the only way to keep them between two people is if one of them is dead. If you're not willing to pull the trigger yourself, you best be prepared to have it pulled on you. I learned that lesson the hard way.

My ignorance got her killed. Everything I once was died with her.
